  • This video follows this unique project, constructing a replica of Moonbase Alpha's hangar for the Eagles. The parts were 3D printed from files found on thingiverse, designed by modeler Marc Fraley. The diorama was detailed using eagle ships from the Moonbase Alpha MPC model kit along with other scratch built parts. The final display measures over 9" in length. The video concludes with a final review of the completed project.

    A handy alternative to decals for long stripes is scale model pinstriping tape used by car modelers (also used for fingernail decorating). Fyi

    Have a little bit of trivia here... but I’ve been a big fan of space 1999 ever since UFO. But mostly the books. My copy of The making of space 1999... A little tidbit I found out about the special effects... That all the eagles in the hangar bay were not the actual models! They were photo representations of the actual models and cut out cardboard’s. Because they didn’t have those many models in their stock during the filming of the series. It was quick and cheap! 😂 and especially when they blew up an Eagle on the landing pad... those were cardboard cut outs as well! Interesting on special-effects trickery!!!😂

    Awesome build. What was never shown in the show space 1999 how the eagles reach the lift to the launchpad. I have no clue or idea how this could be realised. There are no reference photos or stills from the show. I love the hangar. I wished it was shown more often in the show. Keep, up the good work.

    • @philmitchell8109
      @philmitchell8109 3 роки тому +3

      If I remember correctly they talk about getting certain eagles to the lifts. So I always thought when you see an eagle being moved with a cradle t's being moved to a lift to take it to the surface. Not sure if there was just one hanger or one for each launch pad but I think one for each pad makes more sense but who knows it was probably what ever the script needed.

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  3 роки тому +2

      There's one episode where you see a damaged eagle brought down to this level however the elevator changed from the cross shaped to a single rectangular pad. Not sure they really ever thought the whole process through. Sure made for great TV though. Thanks for watching

    Another great build Oggie! I have a baggie of Eagles from the 70-80's and now you've inspired me to revisit them. Even though the Moonbases never made the moves, I just couldn't part with those Eagles. BTW when it comes to display cases I've been using the sports display cases from Michaels. They make them for mini football helmets (smallest 5" x 7" x 5"), football, basketball, full size football helmet (largest 11.5" x 15.6" x 11.6"). I always look for the sale prices and it's not unusual to get them for 50%. Looking forward to the next project! Cheers
