Space:1999 EAGLE assembly & walkthrough

- This is a CGI recreation of the Eagle spacecraft from Space:1999 showing an assembly and a walkthrough of the interior. It is not 100% canon to the show but have tried to be respectful of both Brian Johnson and Keith Wilson's vision for the show. I took inspiration from the Dinky Eagle replica for the main hatch and gangway stairs.

As a fan of the series from childhood when it originally aired, I say that you've shown proper respect to the spirit of the original design while making several improvements.
did you know when NASA engineer actually designed the eagle lander
@@emfields5082 Those are 2 different things, this is a multi-purpose imaginary spacecraft, that one Nasa designed is the actual Moon lander that brought Armstrong on the moon, in real life
I agree beautifull video: It made the fictionary spacecraft into an actually realistic ship, with airlock, stairs that don't just appear/disappear, retractable gear, etc.
I concur with you.
One of the most iconic science fiction ships. In fact, the Eagles were one of the main characters in the "Space 1999" series.
This has got me smiling ear to ear. It brought back the wonder of my youth being mesmerized every time they showed an Eagle in action on the show. The design still holds up as far as being a plausible outcome of the space industry in the future.
I agree with you. I think Space X has taken inspiration from the series in particular.
Amen to that. I just wish more people were looking to horizontal VTOL designs like this...far more practical and plausible. Instead, we have billions being thrown at the same ridiculous tail standers (like the SpacedX stainless dildo) that don't stand a chance of being practical or viable.
Gerry Anderson treated us to tech that could be. It's a shame no one is taking it more seriously.
One of my favorite shows growing up in the 70's. I had the big toy version, had to be 24" and had the Konig, Russle, Carter figures... memoriesss. I still love the Eagels.
This craft was probably one of the most realistic 'low gravity origin' to 'near space' vehicles ever done for a fictional program to date.
A very nice updated version of a classic ship.
One of the things I loved about space 1999 was that everything looked based on reality, like it was something that we could have made or it would have worked
Said this many times myself.. Especially the Eagle.. Looks very believable and not far fetched..
yes , exactly how I feeled about the eagles design, some thing transported into space in pieces, then assembled, they are my No 1 sci fi space ship design.
Or so we thought back when we watched it. But yeah, you're right. Eagles are manageable. Enterprise type Star Trek ships are monstrosities.
The windows for the pilots are a bit small, especially for something that would be used in many roles and where it would crucial to see out, but perhaps the electronics made up for it. Great design otherwise.
It was in no way perfect, but it was belieavable and a concious effort to make something utalitarian that could actually work.
I am still convinced we will se something like it on the moon one day.
Thank God The Eagle finally has a heat shield
Lol - thank you.
Don't think heat shielding is necessary. With nuclear fuel cells powering the motors it would have a slower, controlled re-entry.
You've really made the Eagle come alive - thank you
Well done, Ted Rivers. I’m particularly impressed with the inclusion of heat shields which were missing in the original designs of the Eagle.
I’m absolutely ecstatic at the high level of detail in your exquisite digital revamp! 😃👍
That, frankly, was superb. A beautiful, well thought-out and rendered piece of work - very impressive and consistent. Brilliant!
Who are you guys? You have amazing talent. I'm so grateful you are keeping my youth dream alive, kind of taking me back in time to the future that never happened...
This is awesome. I used to watch Space 1999 when I was a kid. 1975. Came on at 11:30pm Sun. Toledo OH.
One other point - I hope a producer sees this and it inspires a series reboot!
Oh God, no....
This made my day - well done!
The tribute card at the start was a nice touch.
I've often felt the Eagle Transport was the most easy to believe most realistic spacecraft in sci fi history and can see future spacecraft designed around this ship. I'm not certain we are that far from having the technology to recreate such a design now.
.
On a par with the Star Wars Start Destroyer for classic icon status 😎
It looks and feels like something that would actually work on the Moon and fits with the NASA aesthetic so perfectly.
Brilliantly done. Loved that show.
We're there as far as being capable of building a "real" Eagle.
It's only a matter of funding for getting one to the moon.
In the TV Show, they sometimes landed on planets with an atmosphere, it would need heat shielding to do that.
Many great and logical updates to the design. Love It!
Magnificent job! As a kid watching this show in the 1970s, I would always imagine what it would be like to walk around inside an Eagle. Today, the adult "me" is overjoyed. Thanks for this treasure!
Excellent re-work without losing the charm of the original!
AVERTED NITPICK: I WAS going to complain about the lack - yet again - of port-starboard translation vector RCS thruster bells on the outboard pods, but then I took a closer look and realized that you had addressed that issue by virtue that the RCS thrusters are angled such that if all 8 (4+4) nozzles are fired at lower power, then it neatly serves as a side to side translation vector. Nicely done!
Ya what he said..
@@seanhughes1808 Thinking the same thing, but he left out the missing left phalange.
Congratulations. This concept makes smarter use of available space.
This is begging to be remade and brought back, if just to let us see the Eagles in all their glorious splendour again.
I have rewatched some episodes and the series itself did not age well, but I would love a modernized script (which means no moon reaching escape velocity and finding a new star system every week, and less date characters).
@@57thorns Regarding the "wandering moon":
I've read (and agree with) commentary that there was difficulty in the 1960s developing science fiction shows centered around a STATIONARY locale (like Moonbase Alpha or the UFO studios) as opposed to a MOBILE locale (Lost in Space, Star Trek, Captain Scarlet, Wild Wild West, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea). Even Thunderbirds' Tracy Island was rarely the scene of any plot-related action aside from the launch sequences. I guess the Anderson & Co tonic to this difficulty was to have a stationary "moon-base"... but turn the moon into a giant spaceship~ IMO, it doesn't do much for plausibility.
I had the action size toy when I was little and loved it (even for my star wars figures). One of THE NICEST LOOKING SHIPS ever grace a screen!
I found one - in GREAT condition - on eBay back in 2001 - I bought it for myself as a 40th birthday present!
I'm amazed at the revived interest of Space 1999. I was a wee boy when this first aired. And I never saw it in syndication.
I'm glad people remember it and are practically bringing it back to life. Thank you.
I'm just in awe of your imagination, talent and vision. Incredible!! Thanks for sharing with us.
Wow, thank you!
@@romeo3928 It is very, very good. I think Fred Ordway, Harry Lange and Anthony Masters would appreciate your work.
Very cool animation. It 'transported' me back to my child hood, and I so miss the Eagle toy I had then.
Simply magnificent. I am related to one of the original technicians who worked on SPACE1999 and as a child was given an out-of-hours 'tour' of the Moonbase Alpha sets, including the set for the Eagle cockpit and module. It is an experience that I will never forget, and as such I've been obsessed with the Eagle design since childhood in the seventies.
Lucky you what a privilege you had
Absolutely fantastic. Took me right back to the 70s.
A work of love, the original miniature and this beautiful and thoughtful homage
I had a green Dinkey Eagle as a kid, my favourite toy ever. This was a fun watch, also nice choice of music!
Fabulous! Loved the aircon vents in the command module!
Cannot like this enough. Perfectly updated/believable design of one of my favorite sci-fi vehicles kept true to form. I would love to see this version in an updated production of Space 1999. Too bad we never got one before Martin Landau passed away. He would have been perfect in the role of Dr. Victor Bergman.
Absolutely gorgeous work. For a life-long fan of the series like myself this is such a treat to see.
Thank you so very much. Keep up the wonderful work.
The thought that went into the background of this show was outstanding. It was on par with Star Trek, and yet it never got the love and respect it deserved from the BBC (second season).
It was beautifully produced.
Brilliant! Eagle 4 ! Well made!
Wow that was just beautiful. I know it comes from a tv show but seems so functional without giving up the human touch
Beautiful. She lives!
i don't know how but you made the eagle look like it can work even more than it does in the show.
Way ahead of its time. Aesthetically like trains of today internally.
The designs on most Gerry Anderson shows were of excellent quality, but The Eagle was the King. It looked like something that we would be really using in the near future.
Excellent rendition, Ted. I used to watch this program when I was a kid. It was stuff like this that made me become an industrial designer. Now retired - but NEVER tired of, or bored with well designed stuff. Thanks for the walk-thru.
What I loved most about the Eagle was that it looked like something we could actually build and fly.
Outstanding, absolutely brilliant!❤️❤️❤️
Great workshop done! What an attention to detail! A fan since my childhood I wish this series would comme back.
Brilliant! Thank you! Loved this series. The best space vehicle ever.
Very well done. Loved that show.
Very believable and beautiful design. After seeing this breakdown you appreciate it’s versatility even more👽
Thanks for bringing this classic ship design back to life.
I've always loved this ship!
BEAUTIFUL!
Lovely experience to go back to the future....
Whoever made this did an excellent job! The Eagle was one of the most believable spaceships I ever saw in a Sci-Fi series, a multi-role platform that served as a workhorse for Moonbase Alpha and could also hold it's own as a defensive craft.
I’m no rocket surgeon but I reckon these would make a viable craft. Excellent work by the way.
Thank you Robert Mac!
Not really..... 😅
Great job ! Used to love this show. i remember I had a Space 1999 tin lunch box
I have always thought the eagle is a stylish and practical design, it looks like it would work. Awesome
So glad a show nearly 50 years old still inspires great creators. I was about 8 years old when it 1st aired and the best christmas present ever was the Dinky Eagle..close to finishing the big MPC model after countless hours. Love the updated detail on your CGI model, great work.
Sweeeet! You’ve answered a lot of questions I’ve had about the Eagle since I was a kid. And in a truly dignified and respectful manner. Thank you!
Thank you for this great video about a ship I loved when I was a kid. I used to rebuild it all the time in Lego. You did a great digital job :)
Glad you enjoyed it!
I also builded an eagle using lego just after the first episode I saw in 1975.
great Eagle spaceship of Space:1999 , great job
A gentle and respectful reimagining of the Eagle. I love it!!
This video is so awesome! Thanks for bringing a sense of reality to this beloved spacecraft.
I would love to see a reboot with this mild update/correction to the original Eagle.
PS- amusing snippet- Alan Carter (Nick Tate) was an Eagle pilot, and he popped up 20 years later in a Star Trek TNG episode as a shuttle pilot and managed to safely land the damaged craft on a hostile planet with Picard and Wesley aboard.
"You're an able pilot" Picard told him, so obviously he hadn't lost his old flying skills..:)
I always used to joke with my brother if you ever want to survive an Eagle flight make sure Alan Carter is flying !!
@Tungsten Kid
I saw that TNG episode and watched all the Space:1999 episodes back in 1975 1976 and didn't make the connection. I failed! lol Thanks for pointing this out, now I have to go watch that segment of TNG again and watch Alan Carter again.
@@watershed44 Yeah I'd seen that epiode ('Final Mission') several times over the years without recognising it was Tate, and i only realised it was him earlier this year (2020) when i saw it again and thought "Hey that looks like Nick Tate"..:)
He pops up briefly in this clip-

@@tungstenkid2271 Thanks so much for the direct link to the segment in the episode!
Yup, recognized him right away. Alan was a hero figure for me when I was 11. In 2014 at NY ComicCon I dressed up as .... you guessed it , a pilot (yellow sleeve and all). :)
The versatility of the Eagle is what makes it one of the most practical SciFi ship designs ever.
Great job with the vid. Iv always thought the Eagel was the best early SiFi space craft in terms of realistic design. Great to see this tour of it.
I simply can't get over the sheer amount of nostalgia that hits me when I see this. Well done!
Love the car like air vents in the cockpit LOL. I loved that show. Nice job on the animation!!!
Only when I got older that
I acknowledge/appreciate the realistic approach in designing this iconic film spaceship.
AWESOME!
Detailed walkthrough of my all-time favorite sci-fo spacecraft.
A really beautiful and practical spacecraft with lots of realistic potential engineering
The Eagle is my favourite space vehicle in any sci fi series. It has always looked the most logical kind of space craft in my opinion.
Thank you for this. I grew up watching the show with my parents.
Me too! Although my parents didn't really understand it, they could see it was an amazing production.
Thank you!!! It's nice to see new stuff still being created for this show
Really cool walk through. I’ve always loved the design of the ships in that show.
Honestly breathtaking. The interior detailing is astonishing; the design solutions really elegant. Has heft and reality.
Thanks very much for your kind words.
Sat here looking at my 44” Studio Lab Eagle as I watch this. A great walkthrough of the entire ship. The Eagle always has been the most ‘believable’ science Fiction Ship ever imagined and owning one was always my grail. I’m surprised no one ever built a 1:1 of this ship.
Envious of your 44" model! I remember back in the 70's, the episode "Another Time Another Place" and there's John, Helena and Alan walking out of a full size Eagle, I was so excited! And of course later figured out it was photo cutouts - but it was amazing for the time!
I don't remember a lot about the show, it was kind of sporadic with the scripts. I do however, remember the Eagles! That was why I watched as a kid.
I m italian! It s a wonderful job! It's a perfect new eagle for remake!!!! Bravissimo!
Well rendered! Time for SPACE:2099 now........
That 3D model is a thing of beauty.
Beautiful! Simply beautiful. Thank you for creating this. One of the best sci-fi shows in my lifetime with some of the most practical and inventive production design I've ever seen. Truly inspiring.
Wow, thank you!
Nice job when I was a child I was a big fan. Thanks a lot. Alan.
Thanks!
Very nicely done. The Eagle was the star of the series.
The finest TV space ship ever created ... I remember seeing the Dinky version in a toy shop window whilst on holiday in Wales. I needed one. No idea why it was green! Then I 'needed' the Dinky freighter, then I 'needed' the Airfix version ....... and in later years I 'needed' the 24" Product Enterprise version [and the smaller ones]. Even got the Airfix Hawk and the recent re-tooling.... which is very nice. This is a nice rendering - well done.
Thank you. My mom saw the Dinky Eagle while in England on a business trip with my dad back in the 70's and knew I "needed" it! I too wondered why it was green.
This is truly outstanding work and very enjoyable to consume. I could watch it all day. Thank you 👍🏽
Great design and probably the best spaceship in history that realistic in near time and place.
Great eagle model!!!
Wow, beautifully done. What an awesome ship for it's time.
Thanks, it was amazing for the mid seventies!
Eagles for everyday commerce, workload,transportation.. Tie fighters for defense. These 2 ships wow'ed me as a small child. The versatility of the eagle, the desposability of the tie. awesome.
Amazing labor of love!
One of the more believable concepts out there. Still have my cast iron version of it from childhood.
There has never been a cooler space vehicle
Eagle is my favourite spacecraft ever!
Still one of my favorite ship designs in sci-fi.
Bravo, sir! So well done. It’s obvious you’ve crafted this with love and respect.
Thank you.
Absolutely brilliant rendering! Congratulations!
I would love to 3D print this version of the Eagle. Such a lovely update. Thank you.
Thank you. Though I have a complete model for rendering, it's a hodge podge of Autocad, 3DS Max and mapping. If I get to cleaning up all of my Autocad files that it took to put this together I will let you know!
@@romeo3928 count me in on that :-) you have done an amazing job
Me to please this is awesome! Cheers Mate!
Amazing, the Eagle was my (pre SW naturally!) favourite sci-fi ship, I had also the old Airfix model, and such a CGI rendering really give justice to its design.👍
Thank you!
INcredible! I’ve always loved the Eagle space crafts. Beautiful, realistic and cool design. Never seen the interior like this. Just amazing. Thank you!! More please!!!
Thanks very much!
Absolutely brilliant work, always been one of my favourite spacecraft and this is a very decent remodel
She's beautiful.
Very nicely done. One of the all time great spaceship designs.
Thanks!
The glass screen cockpit is beautiful. Also: thanks for moving the toilets from the very back by the nuclear engines to the front. I feel better.
