Our 2000 4Runner took us 3 years to build. When we decided to start a new 5th gen, I wanted the first phase done as quickly as possible. With a couple months of planning, I set out on a road trip to build as we go. The goal: have a fully built expedition vehicle in one week.

I'm not sure why there are so many folks here complaining about the cost. They didn't have to pay for it. BUT...we get to enjoy seeing YOUR vision come to life. How cool is that?!?! Love it or hate it, it's a freaking clean build! Fun to watch! Thanks for making this video. I loved it!
Everything I want to do within the next 10 years but you managed to squeeze it into 7 days. Thanks for setting the bar.
Took a lot of pre-planning but it was worth it! 15 years of doing this has made me impatient
just a reminder, you dont need to spend this much to go out and see the outdoors. buy a cheap 4x4 and learn how to fix it up for less than $10k
Absolutely right. This is more of a no holds barred build but the outdoors are easily accessible with even a semi capable vehicle. A 4wd 3rd gen 4runner stock will keep up with this build almost anywhere.
Don't forget at least decent AT tires
But I have a 2015 4Runner Trail, so that’s what I’d do these upgrades on if I did it. What is the rough total cost for the upgrades you did on *this* vehicle?

If you have to ask then you cannot afford it. Just kidding.Super Charger installed is roughly 6500, bumpers im guessing at 2500, tires and wheels 1600. Im just guessing but I would say the whole build he has 15000 in aftermarket stuff.

The 4Runner and Taco was butt ugly from the start with their bug eyed headlights and pointy grilles. The new bumpers IMPROVED the look of this SUV.

@@therightfish The pro is a joke. You can get those wheels, tires and shocks on your own for less than half the price the dealer charges. I guess if you REALLY need the exclusive paint color, then you have no choice.
How much horse power does it have now ? With that beastly supercharger
@@bassage13 The pro is no joke. Just the price they charge is. Actually after comparable tires and suspension it'll cost the same to do it to a stock 4 runner. Better off buying the pro cause the modss are all ready on it. Only 50k that's all

Me: driving stock 4runner TRD in 12/2020.
Been all over off road and found out it's just as fun without the expense.

Love it! Definitely some schmeckles spent on that build. I can’t even decide if a front bumper is on my radar. After factoring in a wench, lighting, shipping and install that’s a lot of coin.

4runners are really land cruiser padros. The gx460 is a fancy prado with high quality luxurious stuff, the 4runner is a simplified land cruiser prado

Toyota should give the Super Charger as an option.
Some dealerships do sell brand new, modified vehicles. Ed Martin Toyota in Indiana has a similar build for sale right now (sans the supercharger). Findlay Toyota here in Vegas has a custom shop that will do just about anything you want.
I'd love to hear more feedback on the super charger! I know the number one complaint with 4runners is power and I wonder if the supercharger helps with that.
I'll probably do a follow-up video on the supercharger exclusively but the short story is it's friggin awesome.
@@Outworld I would have to agree. After my Magnuson supercharger install the power is more linear and up top it's got a punch! I still have 265/70-17 tires. So interested how the 285s feel without gearing and the supercharger.

I got rid of my 4runner because it was too much of a dog..... I loved it but could take the lack of power. 5 years later got a Sequoia
With the heavier bumpers, armor and wheel package, I’m glad for the boost in power from supercharger to prevent it being a slowsky. I like the bumpers but I get it if some don’t

How has the fuel economy changed with that super charger. I just purchased a 2020 4Runner and am thinking about the super charger.
I've had a stock 4Runner one for a little over a year. Unless you're towing in hilly areas you really don't need it. Sure it's annoying for it to downshift two gears on a steep grade, but is it $7,000 annoying? Nah. The whine ain't worth that much either
It's tough for me to say because the armor tires and supercharger all went on so close together. I've been fully loaded with the tent on more often than not and I'm averaging just below 13mpg.
@@Outworld ouch. I'll keep mine mostly stock except suspension and tires and get 17-19. Probably still do the same offroad.

I'd say about 18k in parts and labor
That's insane on an $40k plus vehicle, I mean I wish I could. I've done a lot of lifts and upgrades but spent maybe $2k including tires.

Tires wheels lift and suspension cost 15000. It's more like 30 thousand plus
@Thor Odin son No I was adding the wheels tires lift, suspension supercharger, and all install fees bumpers winch.body chop Lighting at least 30 grand

is it just me or does every one of these type of builds look exactly the same: 3” coil over lift with bronze wheels and 33s and a roof rack.

Like others said, you don’t have to spend $70k to go out and explore the country.
First time having someone else turn a wrench for me in the last decade. No shame this time around.

There's nothing I'd rather drive than my '05 TJ Rocky Mtn for off roading, especially beach/dune wheelin, trails and just cruising around in the warmer months. Doors and top in the garage where they belong. But if I'm going to be taking the family on a long trip, there's nothing better than a 4Runner. Both vehicles last forever, well at least the 4.0L I6 engine does, can't say the same about everything else on a Jeep. Everything else seems to just f n break! The TJ is a fun toy while the 4Runner is the real deal.

Just happened across this video. Good work! I appreciate that you hit the engine, suspension, and roof rack. Yeah it's a lot of money, but i look at my '17 4runner and '03 Jeep TJ as vehicles that will outlast me, if i do my part. So if you break the cost down over the life of the vehicle it isn't much. Both vehicles can easily be excellent even after the 200k mile mark...
