  • I was told by service that low voltage can cause the dash/infotainment to disappear and vehicle won't start.
Update: Dealer pulled more codes than I found -every code since birth. One was a low system voltage error. They tested the battery and it tested good, and had a decent charge. No new codes thrown since I rebooted it. They can only guess the battery was low when I took delivery and somehow dipped low enough to cause the system to wig out. So it's the old "wait and see if it happens again." I did drive it 10 miles when I brought it home first time so I would assume it would have charged up if low... Who knows. Will update if it happens again...
    What happened:
Attempted remote start using fob. Lights flashed and no start. Attempted again without success. Upon entering the vehicle the dashboard and infotainment system were dead. Vehicle would not start. Battery was fully charged (edit: at least the charger said it was). Similar to issues found in TSB 23-NA-023. Or is it just a defective battery? Bad battery cables? Discharged battery (current theory)?
    Trouble codes found: U1608, U1609, U0121
This video describes and shows the issues encountered and the temp solution to get going. Needed to document so the dealer knows what happened.

1:30 -what’s happening in the truck and what is not working and what is.
    5:15 -the temp fix
6:10 -working again and possible TSB
    8:30 -OBD trouble codes pulled

The dealer has to fix it. It's under warranty. They have no choice. They don't have a leg to stand on. If they give you any c*** Do not take no for an answer.

Good luck! You'll need it. Gm customer service is pathetic. Most dealers get screwed by corporate. My dad purchased a truck, brand new in 2003. The instrument cluster quit the first year. Gm said he would have to pay to get it fixed and reimbursed if it git recalled. All this was documented. 8 years later they recalled but my dad had "too many miles" even though it was documented as bad under the warranty period. My dad has family members that work for or retired from GM.. coworkers 2.7L turbo 1500 spent 6 weeks at the dealer waiting on a turbo. No rental. Another coworkers 5.3L dropped a lifter and got a short block at 15,000 miles. Different dealer, no rental.

I hope they get the issues resolved with your truck. It is understandably disheartening to just get a new truck and have issues pop up right away. These new vehicles are way too complicated with all of the computers in them.

Hey man, want to share my experience with a fleet of these trucks. Out of the 12 trucks, none of the batteries lasted more than 1 year. Many crapped out at 3 and most at 6 months. I've also setviced some buicks that throw "Service transmission" and "Service power steering system" warning messages on the dash. That particular one lasted 2 years and 22k miles. Tested battery was giving 200 amps put of the 750 or so it was rated for. Car always turned on just would randomly pop these messages. Something with these GM batteries.

Yikes. So it is a good idea to keep jumper cables under the back seat. Sad how bad some things are made these days. I don't doubt you.

We have jumper boxes that output 3000 amp peak. We use them for the trucks and for the heavier duty diesel equipment. I would suggest for you to carry a jump box with you. Much simpler to help yourself out and to help others out.

@@09jklful So I have to ask. Have you ever had the whole truck shut down until the battery is disconnected and reconnected? Like mine did? Service was not surprised but wouldn't say it was common.

@@AttommicDog None of these trucks had the digital display for the gauge cluster and they all use the key to start, no push start. But the common thing between all them was no crank. They turned on till the next day they didn't. No weak start or the quick tut tut tut sounds when the starter cant turn the engine. Before they quit all together, some trucks had weird electrical problems with the reverse camera. Sometimes not showing up or the grid lines wouldn't show. Reset language selections. Don't know if the key fob worked or not leading up to the battery replacement. All batteries were replaced with 1000 Amp odyssey batteries. No point in having them fail so quickly again. Though I will say for the couple of 2022 - 2024 Buicks I've seen, the dealer replaced the battery for free and last I've known they are still working fine.

Disconnect both terminals from the battery. The truck’s computer controls everything electronic and mechanical. Codes most likely false. I think GM does this on purpose for service purposes $$$$

Yep disconnecting battery got me going. I was told all sorts of freaky codes can be thrown when there is a low/bad battery. Why it may have been low is a mystery, but that's what they are going with as no new codes thrown since I rebooted the system.

@@AttommicDog I purchased a 2021 Silverado custom 1500. The service department here is great at calling you for routine maintenance until your warranty expires. Then they start giving you the runaround. You think, “oh I’ll get a brand new vehicle then I won’t have to put so much money into it”. Smh. Things (goods and services) just aren’t the same anymore. On a good note, my truck is running like a top for now. Good luck with your my friend

Failed update over the air. Gotta watch for that. It will freeze the system and even can kill the battery. Turn over air off on updates and use manual wifi.

The two theories are either the battery was already low when I took delivery or what you said. Thanks for the tip. Will look into that.

@AttommicDog anytime an update wants to install, turn truck off let it install at home, after 10 mins update should be done, go ahead and start truck up then and check the install successful on radio then turn off radio then the truck. It should be ok no probs ever if its installed that way. Never let it install auto or sit over night after install. Always start engine 10 mins after update.

Looks like a computer issue to me. Dealer should put a new computer in it to see if it resolves the issue. Don't let them say it's going to take weeks or months to get a new computer, tell them to take one out of another truck on their lot. They don't trouble shoot anything anymore they do what the computer tells them, swap parts is all they know. Well, swap the computer!!! You can add a battery isolator switch under the hood, simply click battery off when you park then on when you want to go somewhere, and your up and running until they get their act together.

To reset completely you need to take both ground and positive terminals off turn your headlights on to drain power from all of the modules gm has had a lot of ground problems from 14-23 🤦‍♂️
