Then I ran across your video and I went to work immediately on my truck. I found it was on the negative side that I was losing power. Thank you my truck is fixed..

Dear Oz Mechanics, I wanted to thank you for your incredibly helpful video on fixing the no crank, no start issue with a Chevrolet Silverado. Your detailed guidance allowed me to successfully troubleshoot and repair my truck. I truly appreciate the effort you put into making such informative content. Keep up the great work! Best regards, Sergio Contreras
I just had this problem and my fix will be buying cut to length welding cable and lugs at my local welding supply. It's tough, heat resistant and high ampacity. I've done many cables that way for decades. Dielectric grease inside the lug before crimping excludes moisture.
A failing connection where the cables are crimped to the positive clamp causes high resistance. Any resistance will result in voltage drop, and in this high-current cable will cause it to heat up and reduce the power throughput. It looks like the cable clamp is making good contact with the positive battery post, but not with the red cables. It would have been better to bridge the bad connection with something passive, like a jumper cable, but the "booster" test is better than nothing.
Same thing happened to my 2008 Silverado. I have some seriously corroded cables however. I'm going to be changing them out tomorrow and hopefully get it going again. My cables look very bad compared to the one you changed. Hope this works for me too! Thanks you for this video!!

I got a 2007 2500hd Z71 6L for 2200$ and it had the dash lights come on but no start. I purchased the truck anyways and towed it to my house. The guy who had it had it stored all winter then when it didn't start he replaced the battery but still nothing, no dome lights, head lights or cranking. I noticed it had no indicator line under what gear it was in. I ran a wire to the starter and positive fuse and it was cranking but no start. Then I thought about that onstar system that was in it. I Pulled fuse 47 or 48.. (I forget) and put it back in and just like that it started.
Hi Oz Mechanics, I hope you are well. Can you confirm if the instrument panel was lighting up with the key in the "crank" position? I'm having a similar problem with my dad's 08 V6. When I turn the key to the "on" position, all gauges/ gauge lights in the instrument cluster activate. When I turn the key all the way forward to the "start" position, all gauge/ gauge lights in the instrument cluster go blank. That includes the "anti theft/security" light. At that point the starter/solenoid does nothing and I get no power to the solenoid. Please let me know if this sounds the same as truck in your video? Thanks.
High resistance ( corrosion ) on the positive side , causing the heat in the cable and connection . The key was on during the test . ANY exposed copper will corrode and disintegrate over time . Great use of the thermal camera .
@@billsmith2212 The silverish look on your braided ground strap is from tin, which is resistant to many common corrosive materials, and is plated on the strands to resist corrosion. So you see, there is no exposed copper, unless you freak out and dip the cable in some kind of acid bath to remove the green, which is harmless, and forms after many years of exposure to the elements, ex. road salt.
Just a question my friend .I have a 2009 Chevy Silverado and I was driving one day and turned on the blinker and all my gauges were fluctuating and the truck was losing power and lights were coming on and off .Drove it for another 10 miles and turned on blinker again and it ran normal .My mechanic looked at all the ground connections and said they were in good shape but one was extremely dirty and dusty. The truck sometimes before this incident would act the same way as the one that you were working on .Could this be the issue?
