It went through front drive shafts regularly because it would always spin since the hubs wouldn't unlock and the 4" lift. The differential was a pain to shift into 4WD (probably needed a complete rebuild). The brakes always felt mushy. It had a bit of rust too (20 years in south Florida will do that). But the straw that broke it's back was smog. Turns out I had blown a cylinder or two (probably why it averaged about 6 mgp) and the kid who bought it had to rebuild it.. There were a lot of things about that diesel that I liked but to me, the downer was low amount of weight you could carry. I think the 4xe is a great choice. It's the only Jeep that has made me think about selling my 4Runner. I'd put it on 35's to match it up with bronco as it is on 35s... Just my 2 cents.
@@matribadeneira9766 Power is only part of the equation. GVWR also has to take into account whether the brakes can stop the rolling mass, can the frame support the weight, can the suspension manage the dynamic load?

Great update Brad. I’m biased and like watching the Bronco stuff the best because that’s what I have, but I subscribed long before just because of your attitude and personality, and the awesome adventures you show on your channel. Keep doing what your doing! Best of luck with the channel this year.
Brad - I love your channel and the variety! I’m really excited about the 4xe addition to the garage. Please encourage Jeep to make a 2-door version! I’m with Regina on the correct number of doors - but would happily move to electric. ;-)
It’s all good content. Vehicles, gear, Expos, Overlanding, camping and cooking. Thanks. It’s genuine, real and educational. Thanks for teaching me how to do the “Ensign Salute”.
Brad, keep doing you! That'll keep it from becoming a grind. The variety is interesting and keeps me coming back. I'm excited to see the 4xe content, even 20 miles range in town would beat our current grocery getter (Forester). I've been eyeing the electric crate engines coming out for whenever my 4.0 LJ gives up (another 17 years prob. lol). The thought of instant torque in the mountains, quieter cruising on the backroads, and the next level in performance innovation is attractive.
Brad, thanks brother for all your content! I retired from the Navy a couple of years ago and watching your videos has inspired me to explore our own backyard and build a new jeep for overlanding. BTW I love all the Chief swag...Navy Chief, Navy Pride!
Brad......I know I`m late to the party but....."it`s stuff you love to do" and that my friend is why we all love your channel. Hope to see you out on the trail some time (Bronco is in production!) Keep em comin!!!
Thank you for the breakdown. Definitely appreciated the diesel discussion. I was a little sad to hear it left, but your reasoning was sound and if I choose to go diesel, I know what risk I'm accepting. Ty
@@TrailRecon I have heard that in the development of the Eco-Diesel for the Wrangler and Gladiator that cooling was difficult because of the smaller frontal area vs the RAM 1500(would a better radiator, remove under hood insulation, remove resonators/low flow muffers for one high flow but quite muffler(lower exhaust temps) be enough help). Also with the bigger tires/wheels, trailer, people, gear/supplies, the payload/gross vehicle weight was probably at its maximum(diesels are less because of thier additional weight), and anougher question was the gearing changed for the 37's ?
I love the content - The questions I have is - What do remove and what do you leave when you sell one of you vehicles? You seem to put a lot of gear on them, do you transfer or leave and start over?
I remember first watching you in 2016-2017 during your first ever coffee one take. Come such a long way. Keep it up man, motivating those currently serving to keep grinding toward retirement.
Man I think he made a good choice with the diesel, I have the same overheating issue with my Diesel. Any little hill will make mine overheat. Casey 250 I think had the same issue as well. Keep up the awesome content brad! 👍🏼
Same here, just love vehicles. I’ve had bad experiences with every brand. Even though my old JK had issues Jeep stepped up to fix them. Great content! Keep it coming
This is probably my "most" favorite talk you ever did on your channel. The "most" honest way to put things together, talk about your collection of great cars. I always wanted to take a Jeep Wrangler but my wife prefers Toyota and we ended up taking the Tacoma and to top it all up, she's driving it daily.
Nice job and great content. Liked your comment on liking vehicles and not brands. The bronco vs jeep competition will only make things better for both. Keep being you on this!
I do not blame you for getting rid of the Diesel Jeep, Brad! Especially here in Socal (Escondido) where DEF is not offered at the pump but through places like Home Depot and O’Reilly Auto Parts. Trading one hazwaste stream for another not to mention the issues you had with it. Great show, and keep up the great work!
Amen on the point about just loving vehicles. I have a 2020 Jeep Rubicon, a 2021 Bronco Sport, a 2004 Ford Superduty sitting in my driveway, and bought my daughter a Kia. They all play a major role in my life, and I love working on each of them and exploring new ways to make them better. If I had the money, I'd probably have pretty close to the same line up in the driveway. 👍😁
You made a comment about hoping people are here for the content and not the vehicles but to be honest your videos with the Gladiator are what got me watching this channel to begin with. That being said, the Gladiator is long gone and I'm still watching so congrats on that. Hoping to see more Bronco action but excited for the video inspiration of whatever you post.
Brad last time I saw you was at the Orange County Fairgrounds Offroad Expo. They had a vendor with a retractable step. It was kind of a rock slider too. That would be good for your wife’s Jeep.
Loved gettin the skinny on what's going on with your vehicles. The channel is great Brad, and you've got 465k affirmations that you're doing it right. Thanks for keeping us all informed and entertained!
Thank you, and Regina and the boys for all the great content you've shared with us. Quality content, honest views shared, and some great scenery, it's obvious you're having fun "working this job"

Great video, Thanks for your time and effort you put into them always enjoy your videos. Having a Power wagon I enjoy those videos of course, we love to get out and explore the back country.
I’m very glad you are exploring all the options out there and giving honest opinions. I usually buy a vehicle and drive it until it dies so I am glad there is a channel that I can go to for a variety. It really helps me in my decision making.
Thank you so much for this video. I'm buying my first Jeep soon. I am currently weighing the pros and cons of all models of the Rubicon.. I was seriously looking at both the Diesel and the 4E. Your honest opinions of all models is very helpful. Thank you the terrific content, Brad.
Hey Brad, since we’re enjoying some coffee and just talk ’in about any ol’ vehicle, check out my 1965 Dodge Town Panel. It's use would have been for delivery of goods, so no side windows. It seats two, is rear wheel drive, with a 225 slant six under the hood, and a “three in the tree”. Two doors up front and “barn doors” on the rear and it has a windshield that wraps around the front a little bit on each side. Many years ago I replaced the original wood floor in the back storage area with a nice stained piece of calico hickory finished with an automotive clear coat. All the floor trim that holds it in place is finished in a black wrinkle coat paint. Many times I’ve thought about and envisioned how fun it would be to convert it to 4wd and outfit it for overlanding, but then I come to my senses and realize there's no way I could butcher this unmodified or cut on piece of history,,, besides, that’s what my Jeep's for 😎
Good message and solid video. I’d love to see you in a new rivian electric truck. What vehicle is in the video hasn’t swayed my interest in the channel keep doing what you do!
Brad I’ve never commented on a video but I feel like I need to on this one… I just want to say thank you so much for all your content I’ve always wanted a jeep and your videos are so informative and unbiased and I do appreciate it. Best of luck this year keep making great content!

Thankfully they were unable to build it as a 2021 so as you know the manual Sasquatch became an option for 2022 well worth the wait. Keep up the great content. TA
I love the coffee chats, Brad, and your honesty. I was also a car and motorcycle guy. It's hard to believe that in the past year I've only owned two vehicles. When I reached 70 I began to focus more on retirement dreams and my bucket list. Now I'm happy 😊 that I did. So, but I will live vicariously through you and your garage toys.
I really like the channel and the mixture and focus of the content, over the last couple years. I also like that it is clean, my 3.5 year old daughter can watch with me or be in the room and I'm not worried about her seeing or hearing something inappropriate.
Thank you so much and I'm glad you're enjoying the content! I know what it's like raising kids and not wanting to have them watching/hearing things that are inappropriate for little ears so keeping things family friendly is very important to me.
Hey Brad! Another good Coffee One-Take! Man I can't keep up with your buying and selling!! LOL!! It will be interesting to see the differences between all the vehicles and what they can all do.
I posted this in an older video, but wanted to post here. I am looking to build an overland rig (and my 300K mile F150 4x4 is as ready to retire and I am!) I don't mind rugged rocky back roads, but am not a rock-crawler (you guys amaze me!) I am likely going to end up with a Ram2500 / 4wheel popup (like your power wagon rig) but wanted to seriously consider Tacoma and Jeep. What I enjoy and appreciate about your channel and the E3 community is that you are open to all. I follow taco and jeep channels and they are fairly exclusive to their brands (but for the most part would not label them exclusive.) Thank you for the great videos and great E3 group.
Brad, awesome video. I love the raw and honest statements you make about each vehicle. I notice most youtubers lose their credibility once they start getting all the sponsorships. It starts feeling more like a sales pitch instead of an honest review of the vehicles. Again, love the video and great content you consistently put out!
I do my best to keep it real and that's why I buy my own vehicles and the majority of my gear and equipment. If something is sponsored, I will definitely let you know. Thank you for watching and glad you enjoy the content!
It's always gonna be sad to see a vehicle leave the trailrecon garage but it's always a pleasure to see what replaces it. I just wish we got more content with that Cherokee chief, glad we got that old Cherokee but man I loved that blue color. Still looking forward to that Alaska trip and vintage trip

That's weird cause diesels are the biggest weight haulers
@@matribadeneira9766 Power is only part of the equation. GVWR also has to take into account whether the brakes can stop the rolling mass, can the frame support the weight, can the suspension manage the dynamic load?
Amen brother. If you decided to go mountain biking on a unicycle I would probably still watch your videos. I'm a fan and love your style. Hit 2022 running and don't slow down! Keep doing your thing and what you are passionate about. Life is too short to worry about stuff that is out of your control. "Every man dies, not every man truly lives!" Rock on Brad!
Thank you so much! And if you go mountain biking on a unicycle, send me the video because I'd love to see that! 😂
My wife and I also love to explore, but for her it is looking at the wildlife as much as anything. We have always thought that a hybrid or elec vehicle would be perfect to for watching animals without scaring them away. I look forward to your insight on the elec jeep
Wheeling in silence in nature is such a great experience!
Nice line up for 2022 my vote is for coffee and Marcos cooking who cares what you drive as long as you have fun! Keep searching for the ideal tool for your job, we will keep watching!
Love your content and transparency, Brad! I love following along on your adventures no matter which vehicle you take 👍🏼
Can’t lie, I love the JEEP content but stay for all of it. Well done. Professional and classy
Great update Brad. I’m biased and like watching the Bronco stuff the best because that’s what I have, but I subscribed long before just because of your attitude and personality, and the awesome adventures you show on your channel. Keep doing what your doing! Best of luck with the channel this year.
I love this video. Really appreciate your genuineness and honesty.
Great video content Brad. I really enjoy your video’s. Keep up the great work ✌️
Thank you and will do!
Brad......I know I`m late to the party but....."it`s stuff you love to do" and that my friend is why we all love your channel. Hope to see you out on the trail some time (Bronco is in production!) Keep em comin!!!
And I thought our matching JK and JT was an addiction.... nice fleet of adventure vehicles Brad!
Looking forward to your future vids. I’ve learned a lot from your channel and have been inspired by your adventures to get out with my family.
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you for the breakdown. Definitely appreciated the diesel discussion. I was a little sad to hear it left, but your reasoning was sound and if I choose to go diesel, I know what risk I'm accepting. Ty
Thank you!
@@titanoffroad The xtreme recon has 4.56 for 315/70r17 tires, why not 4.88, or are you sure about 4.56 for 37's ?
Your adventures are also ours. Keep making the most out of life. All the love for you from the Philippines!
I love the content - The questions I have is - What do remove and what do you leave when you sell one of you vehicles? You seem to put a lot of gear on them, do you transfer or leave and start over?
Thank you! I take off most of the interior gizmos and gadgets, but winch and lights usually stay.
Sorry to hear you had the same issue. Thank you for watching!
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts & plans for the future Brad. I look forward to your next adventure. Keith
Nice job and great content. Liked your comment on liking vehicles and not brands. The bronco vs jeep competition will only make things better for both. Keep being you on this!
Nothing wrong with being a car (Jeep) nut. I've been the same my whole life. I greatly enjoy watching your channel Master Chief. Love the content.
Really excited to see you have joined the 4xe community. Looking forward to seeing content and swapping notes as we see each other in our travels
Love the honesty! Thank you sir! Top notch content 🤙
I appreciate that!
Love the content, looking forward to future adventures!
More to come!
Brad last time I saw you was at the Orange County Fairgrounds Offroad Expo. They had a vendor with a retractable step. It was kind of a rock slider too. That would be good for your wife’s Jeep.
Love your channel Brad and your spirit. Thank you.
Loved gettin the skinny on what's going on with your vehicles. The channel is great Brad, and you've got 465k affirmations that you're doing it right. Thanks for keeping us all informed and entertained!
Thank you so much for watching!
Thank you, and Regina and the boys for all the great content you've shared with us. Quality content, honest views shared, and some great scenery, it's obvious you're having fun "working this job"
I have enjoyed watching everything you come out with, just thank you, I have enjoyed it all. Can't wait to see what happens next!!
Thank you so much for watching and I'm glad you're enjoying the content!
@@TrailRecon I remember the first time coming across your channel, i stayed up and watch a backlog of your content and was hooked, was up very late that night, but it was all worth it. Thank you for everything you do for us all.
Many thanks to you Brad because your content is awesome in every single way and don't worry about if you are changing vehicles oftentimes, it's part of the channel and we are interested in knowing all kinds of 4X4 and different brands. Thank you and see you and the next one.
I appreciate that and thank you for watching! I've always said the vehicles are a tool and the adventure and experiences are what counts. And it's always good to have the right tool for the job (or adventure) at hand.
Great video, Thanks for your time and effort you put into them always enjoy your videos. Having a Power wagon I enjoy those videos of course, we love to get out and explore the back country.
Thank you!
Love your open-minded attitude, Brad. Keep on keepin on!
Thanks!
Appreciate you watching!
Super excited to learn and deep dive into the 4xe!!!!
Thank you so much for your comment! Hope you get the keys to the Jeep are you looking for soon!
I have been meaning to tell you,
Thank you for your service!
Us Army artillery 1992-1995
You content is getting me motivated to get out and go on an adventure
Hope you enjoy them all!! Very excited about your new additions. I’m a old Jeep guy I still own a 1980 CJ7 Highly modified V-8 Dana 60 etc..I did just pick up my new 2022 Bronco 2 door Badlands Sasquatch Hardtop 7 speed manual, I placed my reservation the very first day. Thankfully they were unable to build it as a 2021 so as you know the manual Sasquatch became an option for 2022 well worth the wait.
Keep up the great content.
TA
Hey Brad! Thanks for the update. I Hope u have great adventures with ur new vehicles.
Thank you!
I was waiting for this video lol excited to watch
Right on!
I posted this in an older video, but wanted to post here.
I am looking to build an overland rig (and my 300K mile F150 4x4 is as ready to retire and I am!) I don't mind rugged rocky back roads, but am not a rock-crawler (you guys amaze me!)
I am likely going to end up with a Ram2500 / 4wheel popup (like your power wagon rig) but wanted to seriously consider Tacoma and Jeep. What I enjoy and appreciate about your channel and the E3 community is that you are open to all.
I follow taco and jeep channels and they are fairly exclusive to their brands (but for the most part would not label them exclusive.)
Thank you for the great videos and great E3 group.
So cool to see a garage update
Great coffee one take edition!
Very excited about all of the news and especially the 4xe!
You do a great job. I always look forward to your new videos
I love your videos and I have learned so much from you, thank you. But most of all I love your honesty and Integrity! 🙂
Loved how you called the emissions test Smogged, Grew up in SoCal (68-93) and that's what we always called it.
Sorry to hear about your diesel jeep. I agree with you about the def. I drove a truck cross country for many years. The after treatment is what eventually killed my motor. Sorry to see it go. Looking forward to your adventures with the 4xe.
Nice work. This was one of the first channels I followed when I picked up my JK . I moved on to a FJ Cruiser but still love this channel. Hopefully I can get a 392 in the next couple years. 🐐NCNP🐐
Right on!
