    T480:
    2 Ram slots
    Bridge battery
External battery (with extended 6 cell option)
    Better webcam slider
    T490:
    Better screen options
    slimmer bezels
I got a T480 and put a LPFHD panel made for the T490 in it. I got the extended battery and battery life is amazing. CPU and GPU options are basically the same, so I think T480 wins overall.

@@Yulad_A Yes you can swap the screens and it is a fairly simple process but you need to be aware about the connector. Most T480's have 30 pin connectors and a lot of nicer 14 inch screens have 40 pin connectors so you usually need to swap the conenctor.

I considered a T490 when I was buying my new laptop, but the T480 extended battery and capability of ram upgrade sealed the deal for me... The only thing I think could be better is definitively the screen.

    • @GreenGreenStore
      @GreenGreenStore  4 роки тому +3

Cheers for the reply. That's a popular view from the T-series owners.
I suppose that with fast charge support on the T490, and better external USB-C batteries prices these days (with Power Delivery), gradually the USB-C batteries will become the norm. If you think about it - the power bridge battery is often machine-specific and once the machine stops working/is lost or similar - then the spare battery no longer is useful. Whereas if you had a USB-C power pack, that could power the next ThinkPad/phone externally.
Obviously, external batteries won't have the stability of a power bridge battery which you can fit into the laptop.

I cannot understate the importance of a great battery life on a laptop. I went for the T480 and purchased a higher rated/spec'd removeable battery just so that I don't need to take a charger with me.

I need a laptop too and I am trying to narrow down my options keeping it under $300 for ~14 inch laptops (I have a gaming desktop for when I need power)
-EliteBook G6/G7 very good sleek build quality and upgradability but piss poor viewing angles and no way to tell which have the 250 nit or 400 nit screens
-Dell XPS 13: These things are sexy I want to own one just for the looks but soldered ram (16GB models very hard to find under $300 unless gutted..)
-Dell Latitude 7400/7410/: Basically a business version of the XPS 13 but 14 inches (7410 newer but soldered ram 7400 fully upgradable)
-Thinkpad T490/T480: Basically the same class as the Dell Lattitude and Elitebook but different approach
-Thinkpad carbon: Good screen but soldered ram at that point id just get the XPS lol.
Also thinking about +$300 on a regular consumer laptop so I can get something with a low end Nvidida chip or Intel IRIS graphics so I can get in light gaming on the go.

So what are your options? choose a younger age or extensive upgrade options.

No, rather than t490 you should go with t14 ryzen. It is real beast, more than double performance than t490, in cpu and gpu

      T480s has swappable RAM. 🙂
      T490s has more screen options.

T490s is smaller, though in some ways closer to a Yoga X390 (same mb).

Takes a little to adjust to. Generally it's sometimes sensible to get external mouse where possible.

@@fredericom2650 sadly I didn't, it feels so cheap and like sticky because it doesn't have a glass track pad, also the palm rejection sucks, there are mods for a glass trackpad but I haven't done it to mine because it's still under warranty, other than that it's a good device

@@John-ys4ji Yeah, I find the same thing with mine. I doesn't respond well at all. The older generations definitely felt better. The T490 does feel cheap and plasticky all over, maybe it's because I'm used to the weight of traditional thinkpads.
