I bought my second used T430 recently. Installed a Patriot SSD, 16B of DDR3 1600MHz RAM, the "traditional" keyboard from my old T510, and a 7260HMW wifi card after ditching Lenovo's dastardly whitelist with 1vyrain and video support from Scott Banks. Sweet machine! May try to upgrade the screen next.
I love the aesthetic and durability of the x230, but I find it too small for a 16:9 screen ratio. And it has such a low resolution (1366x768). I love the small form factor but I find it next to impossible to be productive on. Anything less than 15" is too small for a 16:9 display.
Unfortunately laptop prices in my country are very stable, the seller doesn't care if there are new laptops released. They refuse to decrease the price at all. Even if it was a refurbished or used.
My first laptop was a Thinpkad t43, then a t60, t61, x60, x200 and after that I bought a x250. x250 is a garbage. Everything about it is plastic. This was no longer a Thinkpad. I sold it and bought the x230. The x230 and t430 for me are the latest real Thinkpads.
My X201 is working very well for me, with 8gb of RAM, 9 cell battery and a SSD. Love the classic keyboard! I would only upgrade to a X220 or X230 with the keyboard mod, but the X201 is more than good enough for me.
I've been using my T480 at work for over a year, and apart from random SSD failures (which led to it being replaced under warranty), it's an excellent machine, for running Linux too (been running RHEL 7.7). My model has the i5-8250u and 16 GB of RAM.
Great summary. I wasn't aware that the T480 could be upgraded to 64GB of memory. I don't need that much, but I do think a lot about upgrade-ability. The battery life is the thing that makes newer ThinkPad laptops appealing to a lot of people. I like the classic ThinkPads and still use them, but not having to plug in as often to charge is a reason to go with something newer and more energy efficient. I enjoy your channel. Thanks for what you do!
I recently ditched my beloved X301 and bought an T460S. I couldn't be happier. I also have an X260, but it feels like junk compared to the T460S. I will never buy a new laptop again in my life. I'll wait a couple of years and get a used one for 1/3 of the new price.
As a coreboot user and T440p owner, the "no audio output when using an headphone" is probably fixed, because for me it works and in the documentation is no longer flagged as known issue ^^ I'm happy with my T440p.. but i agree, the T480 is a better choice for this year.. Great review!!
The Thinklight is so cool. The keyboard light is an actual flashlight that can light up your space too. I even upgraded mine with the two-heatpipe cpu cooler, although it's probably not worth the time and effort.
i have T410 i5 560m Intel HD 128 ssd 8gb. is it possible to upgrade it with something else?? just to play some old games like half life?? or CS:Ground Zero?
It's 2023 now, and the T480 has gotten really cheap (the price has pretty much halved compared to 2020). It's probably the best bang for buck of any laptop this year still. The only downside is that it's not corebootable, meaning I'd avoid putting any data you'd be wary to share with the NSA on it
PSA: If you want the laptop a eGPU alone, the T480 only has 2x PCIe lanes, which can affect the performance. If you want 4x PCIe lanes, you should buy the slimmer X series (X1 Carbon for example), or the bulkier but more powerful P series (P50 for example, which is pretty good value)
About a year ago changed my XPS 13 for an X220, no regrets. Better keyboard, trackpoint, tons of IO ports, coreboot compatible and several upgrades. Been thinking to upgrade to T480, you get a better screen, enough number of upgrades, more CPU juice and good battery life, but you lose all the other advantages. It's still a pretty unbiased decision, you can get 3 or 4 x220s for one t480.
What advantages do you you lose? I'm trying to buy one of these old Lenovo's, I just started to look into which one to buy so I still got more homework to do
It's 2024. I just bought a t440p for an equivalent of about 90 dollars. It's got an i5, 8GB RAM and the HD+ screen. I will replace all of those because the upgrades themselves also got cheaper compared to 2019 and 2020.
Been slamming my t440p every day for years...with the upgraded glossy 1080p screen, it's hard to beat for the dough, even now. I rarely feel held back, even editing 1080p video or mixing audio.
My DD is a W540, with very high specs. It's held back by nothing, except the latest AAA game titles. I game the crap out of mine with the K2100m graphics, and for the games I play, it's well more than capable.

The T440p is really only a good solution if you can plug in wherever you work, cos its battery life is dismal, I've always thought of it as a "portable desktop." For people that need a great keyboard with awesome battery life and dont need a quad core beast, the t450s comes with a better trackpad/keyboard, with the 1080p IPS screen option, for much less than a t440p, without even including the upgrade $$ it requires on top. Add the extended battery and you have a whopping 16 hour battery life which is still first rate even in 2020
Ive been using my t480 for a year and a bit now.. Its been great and I have had no problems with it at all, one of the best laptops out there in my opinion.. The keyboard is just fantastic.
Still have the same t480 which I use. I replaced both the internal and external battery as both of them recently lost their capacity to hold a charge. Except for that, it still runs great! A laptop that will last a long time. @@alexf1515
I have an X200 and it's pretty good, except for the REALLY DIM display and the crummy audio (which is OK w cans) and the lack of a touchpad (which got me using the stick thing which is sort of OK). But I'd really rather have an X220.
I recently acquired a broken T540P for cheap. The laptop won't boot up. Ended up replacing the motherboard from AliExpress and all went well. Added a 4G card, 240GB SSD and 1TB HDD. Replaced the bottom housing and screws. Next on the list will be the battery and LCD. Still looking for a 15.6 inch IPS LCD.
T480 is great machine. I'm glad that you've used part of video with eGPU that I've made for MoreleTV. Note that thunderbolt 3 in t480 supports only bandwidth of 2 lanes pcie so it's about 20 Gb/s not 40Gb/s 😉 but overhaul good job 😃
@@MrDaltony69 NVME Slot in T480 has 4 PCIE Lanes. There is one USB-C port in T480 that support Thunderbolt 3 with 2 PCIE Lanes. And yes these are separated lines.
I have the T450s that i bought on ebay for 95. It had a cracked screen, ram taken out and no charger, bought replacements for rather cheep and overall spent less then 200. This was great as i just started collage and needed a light laptop to do school work.
Also, one more thing the T440p has that the T480 doesn't: An optical drive. I still use mine from time to time, and even if you don't it can be swapped for an additional hard drive/2.5" SSD. Nice video, I'm working on my own video guide for used ThinkPads in 2020, however I am focusing on a couple of different models on a tighter budget than the T480. I'm actually going to be looking at the "circlejerk" machines! :P I do like the T480 though, to me it really is the newest T-series machine I could recommend to someone because of the backwards changes made with the T490. As for the classic keyboard using a T25: When I read that article it seemed like he had not figured out how to get the layout working properly, similar to how when people first began swapping T420 keyboards into their T430's the keys were still mapped for the T430 layout. If that's been fixed then the T480+T25 chassis would be undoubtedly one of my dream machines. Once again, great video! Looking forward to more content!
That's true. Though you could still use an USB optical drive, especially considering how rare you need one these days. As for the HDD caddy, T480 can have 2 NVME SSDs, but yeah, T440p can have three, so that's 0:1 for T440p The classic keyboard mod on T430 is much more simple and thus more people do it. I'm pretty sure the keyboard layout is just a matter of EC patching on T480 as well, but since the process is so difficult, very few people actually went through with it.
@@WolfgangsChannel I still use an optical drive pretty regularly, especially since one of my ThinkPad uses is digitizing old VHS tapes and making DVD copies. Plus I watch a lot of movies on my laptop so the drive is still good to keep around. Having NVME on the T480 is a nice plus, even though the speed improvements are only noticeable in certain use cases. I really hope they can figure out a relatively easy way to patch the T480's EC for a T25 keyboard, and make aftermarket T25 parts readily available. I would buy a computer like that in a heartbeat.
For functionality, the T480 and T580 are good choices -- except for the base model TN screens which look washed out. However, the amount of flex in their plastic is shocking for a Thinkpad.
Im very happy with my small 4gb ram Thinkpad 11e, with intel M-5Y10c CPU. It's virtualisation frendly, resonable fast, 4 watts TDP CPU. Spend for him just 105 buks (without hdd, and charger). Perfect choise for working in the filds for the price. Use him with Linux Mint as main system. Be ware of mistakes, lenovo have a full ZOO of "11e" models with absolutely different specs, screens, CPU's and motherboards.
You are amazing brooo! I’m a gonna buy a t440p, cause I don’t have enought money. It will be my first thinkpad. I’m so excited. Keep uploding videos. Excelent job!
You're gonna regret it if you don't know where to buy genuine Lenovo replacement batteries. Lenovo doesn't sell 9 cell batteries for the T440P anymore, however they still sell 6 cell batteries for this machine, however they are very expensive and hardly ever in stock.
How about today in mid year of 2021? T480 or e540? Which one is better interms of upgrade and performance? I would consider t480 but i love 15 display on e540
I have a T480s with the WQHD display without touch screen (I hate finger prints on my display!) and i5-8350 with Intel graphics only. I wanted a machine with superior display quality and low power consumption and low noise emissions. I didn't choose a T480 because it was not available with that WQHD display. I would otherwise have chosen a T480 because of its better expandability and higher battery capacity. The T480s it is a great machine. Linux runs flawlessly (if the hardware is not broken - see below). Things I don't like so much: - The keyboad is ok, but not as good as the one of my old T410. - Lenovos new docking station design is just garbage. It is very hard to allign the computer correctly. Sometimes it takes me forever until it locks in place. That is a huge drawback compared to the T410. - The motherboard already had to be replaced. I had sporadic crashes with Linux without anything in the logs that would indicate the reason. As always the support / seller blamed it on Linux. I then installed Windows and it wouldn't even install without crashing. I didn't have a crash since the repair which took place a year ago. If you go to Thinkpad forums you will find quite a few reports about faulty motherboards and things like that.
Personally, if you don't mind the weight, the W540 with an i7-4900mq, is just as powerful as most of the 8thGen i7's. You can upgrade the T440p, with an i7-4800mq SAFELY, and get i7-T480 performance. However, the new processors do have better iGPU's
i spend $130 on a like new t440p with 8 gb of ram ?all i need is a ssd which is $24-40 ,why spend 600 on that?for thunderbolt? lol i got a desktop for gaming
One thing I really don't like about the newer Thinkpads is the soldered charging (USB C/Thunderbolt 3) ports... it seems much harder to repair. I really wish they'd at least kept the slim-tip adapter as a backup (like on the T470), since that was usually replaceable without having to desolder/solder a component on the motherboard. I guess it's less of a problem with the T480 since there's more than one though... break one, be more careful with the others :P
I just got a used T480 a few weeks ago and it's great, it's everything I wanted from a laptop. Now I'm selling my XPS 13 since I no longer have a use for it.
TB3 only reaches about 22Gb/s of PCIe bandwidth due to limitations in the spec. You only get 40Gb if you also output to a couple of 4K displays over the cable, which is irrelevant for eGPU purposes.
Thank you for the advice, right now i have a x230, i was eyeballing p53 for a bold jump, but considering what you just said i think i'm going to have a second look at t480.
I bought a T440 a few days ago ($160), I just updated the ram to 8GB , 240 GB SSD, and get a docking station for $20 on Amazon, and now my E420 is gonna be a FreeNas server or for docker experiments
@@adultlunchableshave you ever commuted over an hour each direction 5 days a week with the same 60lb bag? It gets old quickly. You'll want to get rid of as much weight as possible.
@@kirkeasterson3019 You mean walking with a 60 pound bag? No... I have not. I just throw my t440p into the passenger seat of my car and the weight doesn't effect me at all.
@@adultlunchables yeah not everybody has that privilege. I just bought T480s for about a month ago cause I must bring my laptop to Uni every day. My old one is an HP with its 9 cell removable battery. It weights about 2.5 Kg, compared to T480s about 1.4 kg. You don't know how glad I am every morning when I put it to my backpack and my back keeps thanking me.
You just forget that upgradeability of processors also mean longevity, you wont have bga issues if you dont have a bga directly holding the chip. So even if i dont upgrade from a haswell 4th gen i5 from the long dead M lineup, if for some reason the cpu died, i would just replace it. While that if my U cpu dies, its bye bye to the whole motherboard. I'm not saying this would or would not make getting the new one a bad idea. Just saying its something to take into account
Fair point, but I don’t think CPUs fail all that often these days. I personally never heard of that. On the 90s computers even the L2 cache was socketed, but we don’t see anyone complaining about it anymore. Does it reduce repairability? Definitely. Do L2 caches fail often enough to justify that? Not sure. Does it help reduce the footprint and heat, and pack more performance into smaller package? Also yes. Besides, PGA CPUs are harder to find nowadays since they’re not produced anymore, and the ones you’d want to get (quad core i7s) are pretty expensive for what they are. At some point in time it’ll probably be cheaper to buy a new computer than to get your hands on a CPU replacement.
A T440p would cost about $500-600? You can get the T440p will all the upgrades (quad-core i7, FHD IPS, 3 key touchpad, 16GB RAM) for about or under $350. I bought my T440p for about $145, FHD IPS screen is about $55 (you can get them for about $43 if you don't get the official Lenovo FRUs), 8GB of DDR3 (to upgrade to 16GB) is about $25, backlit keyboard is about $30, 3 key touchpad is about $18, and a good quad-core i7 CPU can cost about $80. That adds up to $353, and that's if you go all out. 8GB of DDR3 is perfectly fine for doing web browsing, HD video etc, and you don't necessarily need a backlit keyboard. A basic T440p with a quad-core i7, any FHD IPS panel, 3 key touchpad, would cost about $311. And don't forget, you can sell your old parts. I managed to sell my old i5-4200M CPU for about $30, and I sold the old ClickPad for about $5. You could also sell your old keyboard for about $10, depending on the condition. That takes about about $45 from the cost, bringing the price down to $266-308. Saying a T440p would cost $500-600 dollars is just wrong. It's more like half that. I don't mean to be rude or offensive.
Where are this kind of prices? I guess you mean USA, in EU we have crazy high prices. I have bought T430 with 1600x900 screen, blacklit keyboard, 8gb of ra, i5-3320M and 250 evo 860 samsung for 250euros which is something like 280-300$. Now for same laptop I still need to pay around 200-250euros. I was looking for X1 carbon 3gen for my wife and the price are like 350euros++++ for fullhd, 5300U, 8gb of ram and 240ssd. In good condition, if you would like to get something more packed you need to spend like 450euros. I was looking also for t460, price start around 300+ euros for basic specification. T440P are a lot cheaper now, medium price is around 220-250euros but you get most of the time 8gb of RAM, i3 or maybe i5-4300M if you are lucky, 240gb ssd and that's all in OK condition, for good one with nice spec, backlit keyboard etc you need to pay atleast 300-350euros. If you want to buy something in really good price and ofc good condition with decent spec you need to look very long time and maybe you will find something in "good" price. Cheers
bad Intel! i guess i am lowering my future pay check if i end up working over there. Intel dropped the ball and they continue to fumble it over and over
I've got a e595 and I love it. Though I'd wish a bit higher refresh rate on screen, backlit keyboard and a tad longer battery life (5 hours out of visual studio light coding on windows 10 with some music in the background). But I wouldn't trade it for anything. Just make sure you get an extra memory stick, since Vega graphics chip benefits from dual channel memory
It's nice! Kind of sad that they get zero coverage by tech channels. I've tried looking for reviews but have only found unboxing videos from smaller channels.
Failed to answer the most important question though. Is there a NEED for the t480? As they will likely be doing fairly similar range of tasks given there is no dGPU. I could care less about heat when I dont feel it at all on the keyboard. The t480 still has a long way to go to meet the same value proposition as the t440p as they are 5x-6x as much. Not saying its a bad laptop, they just exist in way different avenues of the value argument.
That's for you to decide :) And I'm pretty sure I did answer the question in the video - it's completely dedicated to whether it's worth buying T440p and upgrading it, if for roughly the same amount of money you can buy a T480.
@@WolfgangsChannel that seems more like if your an impulse buyer versus a patient bargain hunter. That's something I can agree with. However, even after upgrading my own I am still less than half the cost of a t480.
What do you think of the T460p though? I'm currently looking at one with a i5-6300HQ processor for 370 USD or 310 EUR. What I'm not sure about is the TDP number, on one hand I guess higher W is better because it means better performance, but I see on cpu-world processor comparison site that a lower TDP number is better (www.cpu-world.com/Compare/990/Intel_Core_i5_Mobile_i5-6300HQ_vs_Intel_Core_i5_Mobile_i5-6440HQ.html) I use my laptop for internet (these browser got resource heavy these days!), movies and some video editing. I have a T430 currently and it gotten a bit slow these days. I like it when it's fast, booting, opening browsers, lots of tabs, video rendering. What do you think? Thanks!

Just bought a T480s some weeks ago, cannot complain at all. Got a good deal on it for 1400 Euros with the big i7, 16 Gigs of RAM, the 512 Gigs SSD and WQHD screen. Definitely recommend it.
Talking about upgrades, the new T490 is kind of a step back on that side: soldered RAM and only one free RAM slot. The T480 seems to be the last of a long line of great, solid, no-nonsense laptops. Love it even more now!
And here I'm sitting with my X240 and T420 in the collection, thinking... yeaaaaaah~ once German prices drop again by 50%. Proper non Chinese eGPU support is great but not enough to justify a new purchase just yet. Plus you lose the replacable second battery on the T480 afaik, that's quite a bummer to me.
I still love my t440p. I have the i5 processor version. 8 gb of ram and 240gb ssd. Bought it for 160dollar few months ago. It's snappy and get the job done. Only issue i have is the horrible screen. I want to change to full HD ips but they don't sell it in my country. So i just use external monitor. Weight isn't an issue since i rarely carry my laptop around. I got used to the touchpad so there's no need to change.
Great timing, I was considering getting a T580, but found out that the screen has a PWM flicker?! Also the bezels on T480/T580 are way too big IMHO. Ended up getting a used Lenovo Y530 for way less. Everything is great so far except battery life (no bridge system), and I'm concerned about durability compared to a Thinkpad. Time will tell..
What is everyone's obsession with bezels? Like, I understand not wanting them to be super thick like on some el cheapo laptops, but to me the T*80 bezels are fine. The thinner the bezel, the less of a buffer zone you have protecting the screen from damage in the event of a drop.

@Wolfgang's Channel - These hinges are not only flimsy , they are total construction FAIL (functionality since 2006 or 2007 sacreficed to the design language because hippster Apple did it first) or intentionally desinged to fail because these hinges can open only ~120° instead of up to 190°
I can not find my previous comment but anyways.... the t430 with i7-3720QM works quite well. To get the i7-8650U for the T480 does not seems to be worth the money for single/multiple numerical simulations. Thanks!
Love the battery life. Do you think the T480 is powerful enough to day trade with without issue? All the Forex guys on youtube recommend minimum 16G RAM, SSD gaming laptop with the reasoning being you don't want any slowdown during trade. The programs used though are MetaTrader 4 (which looks like program from 1994) and Metatrader Desktop program which is used for chart analysis. I have a gaming laptop I bought but the battery life is atrocious so I want something else I can take on the road and I love that the T480 has such great battery life. Also do you have any recommendations on 17" screen models? For trading purposes 17" is much better for the job (and has a number pad which is important). Thanks for your time and for making this video. Extremely thorough. Subscribing.
Workstation laptops usually don't have the best battery life. Beefy hardware eats through battery very quickly and there's only so much Wh you can fit until you can't take your laptop on US flights anymore (I think 100Wh is the limit atm). I'd recommend sticking to U-series Intel CPUs (or the newest Ryzen machines), no discrete graphics since it consumes more battery, 90Wh+ battery, QHD display for more screen real estate.
X280 is priced similarly to T480 if you want to buy it used or refurbished. You can theoretically buy a X230 and upgrade it (Nitrocaster FullHD mod, SSD, 16GB RAM, 9-cell battery, classic keyboard) but at this point you'll have to shell out around $400-500. Better spend a bit more and get a modern machine. Beware that the RAM is soldered so you'd want to buy the 16GB version. Alternatively if you're on a tight budget, just buy the base model of X230 and don't upgrade it. Would still be a far better choice then the cheap Walmart laptops.
@@aryanadiazcakasana4414 X230 with a RAM upgrade and SSD is still a good machine. The screen resolution is a bit low but a second hand external monitor or a TV fixes that.

We were forced to upgrade to windows 10. Which is causing speed issues. And long down load time, and long buffering episodes. Even if you choose 144 quality. It still buffers! Even downloading the E mail takes forever! .. Would getting an external Hard Drive ,or External SSD solve my problem? Thanks for the help. Just looking for a reliable computer. No, it probably won't help, it's a pretty old machine. Get a used refurbished Thinkpad from eBay. T440p, T430, W541 are some good options. Make sure you're buying from a company since in that case you'll have warranty and return policy
The only thing that pulls me back from buying a flamming T480 or P50 from ebay is the lack of warranty. I am not from the US, and get that amount of money takes a lot of time, so it is a really risky investment. But you know... risks are a part of life i guess

My thinkpad also works very well with pop!_os, which was surprising. even the touch screen and pen worked.
I'm watching this on my new T480 with an i5-8350U, 24GB of DDR4 RAM, and a 1TB SATA SSD running macOS 13.4 Ventura. Let's go!

Why can't you buy a new batter for 440p?
I recently ditched my beloved X301 and bought an T460S. I couldn't be happier. I also have an X260, but it feels like junk compared to the T460S. I will never buy a new laptop again in my life. I'll wait a couple of years and get a used one for 1/3 of the new price.
As a coreboot user and T440p owner,
the "no audio output when using an headphone" is probably fixed, because for me it works and in the documentation is no longer flagged as known issue ^^
I'm happy with my T440p.. but i agree, the T480 is a better choice for this year.. Great review!!
T410 user here! It's great if you don't mind the thickness and you upgrade the RAM and get a new battery and SSD.
The Thinklight is so cool. The keyboard light is an actual flashlight that can light up your space too. I even upgraded mine with the two-heatpipe cpu cooler, although it's probably not worth the time and effort.
@@Salsajaman I forgot that they removed that! Honestly, I prefer that over a backlit keyboard.

i have T410 i5 560m Intel HD 128 ssd 8gb. is it possible to upgrade it with something else?? just to play some old games like half life?? or CS:Ground Zero?
It's 2023 now, and the T480 has gotten really cheap (the price has pretty much halved compared to 2020). It's probably the best bang for buck of any laptop this year still. The only downside is that it's not corebootable, meaning I'd avoid putting any data you'd be wary to share with the NSA on it
I brought a T540P off ebay for 155 plus tax in Mid Dec 2019. So far it's been great. I add a 8GG RAM stick for 36 dollars and it runs great.
You didn't have me sold until I saw the classic keyboard mod. Wow.
Or the T480s! If you can live with 40GB RAM max.
Got thinkpad T480 and I love it. First time having a thinkpad laptop. Thanks for video!
I have an x220 bought in 2017, begin to be slow on W10 but works great with Ubuntu.

The T440p is really only a good solution if you can plug in wherever you work, cos its battery life is dismal, I've always thought of it as a "portable desktop." For people that need a great keyboard with awesome battery life and dont need a quad core beast, the t450s comes with a better trackpad/keyboard, with the 1080p IPS screen option, for much less than a t440p, without even including the upgrade $$ it requires on top. Add the extended battery and you have a whopping 16 hour battery life which is still first rate even in 2020

As for the HDD caddy, T480 can have 2 NVME SSDs, but yeah, T440p can have three, so that's 0:1 for T440p
The classic keyboard mod on T430 is much more simple and thus more people do it.

You didn't mention that T480 was the last T4** product line to offer a hot swapp-able battery. Not offered on T490.

The last "Thinkpad" I think
Whoops! Yes he did. My bad
Things I don't like so much:
- The keyboad is ok, but not as good as the one of my old T410.
I bought a T540p for $342 and now I'm second guessing myself...
Personally, if you don't mind the weight, the W540 with an i7-4900mq, is just as powerful as most of the 8thGen i7's. You can upgrade the T440p, with an i7-4800mq SAFELY, and get i7-T480 performance. However, the new processors do have better iGPU's
i spend $130 on a like new t440p with 8 gb of ram ?all i need is a ssd which is $24-40 ,why spend 600 on that?for thunderbolt? lol i got a desktop for gaming
what about the FHD ?
Not really necessary on a 14" screen. I can barely tell the difference even with reading glasses on.
@Ayaka About $500 USD, I'm in Chile so a more accurate comparison would be about $450 usd.

The newer stuff is like fashion to me. It dies too quickly. My retro interests are not part of an average user club or some competition.
What about pcie ssd and more modern motherboard?
Cheers

The Ryzen 7 is decent. The Ryzen 5 is 3% slower than the i7-4700mq.

No, T480 still has a replaceable battery. T490 doesn't
@@WolfgangsChannel In that case it indeed is an interesting laptop 👀
@@MegaManNeo T480 is the last laptop with power bridge.
So for many is the last worth buying Thinkpad laptop to buy.
I found an L380 yoga on craigslist for 290 bucks and gawd damn is this a good machine. especially considering its the dreaded "L" series. theyve gotten so much better
i have an X240 and with the right drivers and settings the clickpad is amazing
Yo whats your wallpaper on the mac? Great vid! Also how you like hackintosh on the thinkpad? I've been thinking about installing on my 1st gen x1 yoga.
I just bought a 2019 Lenovo P73 with warranty until 2022
And?
@Wolfgang's Channel -
These hinges are not only flimsy , they are total construction FAIL (functionality since 2006 or 2007 sacreficed to the design language because hippster Apple did it first) or intentionally desinged to fail because these hinges can open only ~120° instead of up to 190°
Thank you! I almost make a wrong decision. Your video saved my bankruptcy . Now i think i know which thinkpad i think i think pad (pay a Dollar)
I can not find my previous comment but anyways.... the t430 with i7-3720QM works quite well. To get the i7-8650U for the T480 does not seems to be worth the money for single/multiple numerical simulations. Thanks!
That one dude in the back wearing the mask at 0:25 knows what's up!
Thank you
any X series recomended thinkpad for 2020?
X390?
@@WolfgangsChannel i already have X230T at home so i think iam just gonna buy some RAM & SSD for it thanks for the info anyway :3
@@kennethdarlington iam on tight budget..
@@aryanadiazcakasana4414 X230 with a RAM upgrade and SSD is still a good machine. The screen resolution is a bit low but a second hand external monitor or a TV fixes that.
had a swift 3 new for $650usd, bought a t480 with 16gb of ram and 720p tn, 500gb ssd for $450usd on eBay. upgraded to the unofficial 128gb wwan ssd. Hackintoshed and wifi card replaced it's the best laptop Ive ever used. Keyboard is great to use and 1080p after market screen is really nice.
The glass moving at the 29/30 second mark freaked me out for a moment. And then again at the 57 mark.
it's now wolfgang's creepypasta channel
"you won't believe what happened when I bought a used thiccpad off of D A R K W E B"
When you install the necronomicon in your thinkpad from the windows store, or when you buy a thinkpad from the SCP foundation.
Managed to nab a T495 (amd) south of 1k last year.
Quite happy with it (so far).
Disregard thinkpad
acquire currency
buy thinkpads
I got myself an L480 for $150 a few months ago, one of the best deals i've ever got
Are you the same woldgang I used to play Naruto forum RPGs with? Love u bro either way keep making good content.
No, I don't think I am but thanks
Hey, Merry Christmas!!! And Happy New Year!!!
You too!
I liked the video and it was very informative...however can you please add the word *The* before you start a sentence or when refering to a device *"The T480"* sounds more natural.

My computer repair shop guy recommended a Lenovo ThinkPad. All we do is watch UA-cam videos, Live Stream & Search the internet. He gave a wide range of options . The P,T,X,or W series. He liked the P535. I do not want the most expensive, or the bargain basement either . What we are replacing is a Acer Aspire 5251-1513 4 Gig of Ram. 218 GB HDD Bought in 2003. Like this Acer has been.
No, it probably won't help, it's a pretty old machine. Get a used refurbished Thinkpad from eBay. T440p, T430, W541 are some good options. Make sure you're buying from a company since in that case you'll have warranty and return policy
@@WolfgangsChannel Thanks for your prompt reply. But can you help narrow my search?
Great Video. Can you do a tutorial on how to Undervolt the laptop using Linux please?
The only thing that pulls me back from buying a flamming T480 or P50 from ebay is the lack of warranty.
I am not from the US, and get that amount of money takes a lot of time, so it is a really risky investment. But you know... risks are a part of life i guess
