Thank you for the detailed review. I have been an avid fan of yi camera. I still have my xiaomi yi cam version 1 although the wifi is no longer working i still use it for my travels. Most of my travel photos are from yi version 1. Ive been wanting to buy a new yi action cam I would be so happy to have this!

I try to find our on the internet but I could not find one. Do you happen to know to fix the hissing sound from Yi Lite action camera?

is it just me or did you forget to mention Mijia has a battery in the gimbal that charges the camera and extends the life to 6+ hours of recording but the Yi gimbal doesn't charge the camera? or does it? I didn't think it did, that seems like comparison worth mentioning lol.

For fishing trips, where the camera is placed on a caps with straps to record when the fish is on the hook, what do you think is the best choice?

Great video. Thanks for thorough comparison. The Yi Lite seems to be the winner for me. I'd use it to record natural springs in Florida, kayaking, scenic drives, bike trips and maybe even tethering it to one of my dogs. ;) Keep up the great work.

That's a very tough choice, Yi Lite vs Xiaomi Mijia. I think your comparison is excellent and tell us every difference that we need to know. For sure the Yi Lite has better video quality, sharpness and for me dynamic range and color, but the extra features that the Mijia offers is definitely worth it. 240FPS slow mo, better 4K video and bigger battery life is great. I do not own an action camera and I've always wanted to have one, but can't choose a good one in the budget segment as they vary so much (take EKEN for example, same brand but different video quality, quite bizarre...). So I think the Mijia is a good option for filming at the seaside and all the different scenic places in my homeland, Mauritius.
Very well produced videos. I'd be grateful to win the Mijia, and would most likely try to use it day to day, probably for biking or other activities. Still a hard choice about which cameras to buy though.

Great comparison! The possibility to use livestream would be a nice feature but it's not essential. If I win the camera I think it would be very useful to film my activities around my city or when I do some outdoor sports.

Both have a 1/4” thread at the bottom and GoPro mount one their underwater case; so lots of options to get you the best option for your situation

After watching this, I prefer Xiaomi Mijia because the RAW images are better for editing, and i want to try the highest fps feature for my slowmo videos project.
I am going to use the camera for my college project and to film my hiking / adventure trip in the future.
Already own a Firefly 8S and Thieye T5e but this one has great design

Thank you for your great comparison review. It was one of the better reviews I've watched. You gave a better prospective for each camera, good technical specs and the pros and the cons. The reason I am shopping around for an action camera is to use it in my car to record my trip in case of an accident or when I am riding my bike. It is good have a video record if something bad happens. I am also looking for a high end action camera to record our vacation trips with the family without having to carry around a big heavy camera. I want something that is small and versatile (video and camera) that is not a phone that can be used hands free.

Good comparison. Seeing what problems Xiaomi Mijia Action Camera previously had, and how well Xiaomi fixed it in subsequent versions of the firmware, I really wanted to win this camera. In addition, it is the first official Xiaomi action camera (not including the first generation of Yi).
Yes, similar to the first "Xiaomi YI" some problems with firmware - but they are quick to fix them and improve things. Flat profile e.g.

Hi! I am fond of video/photography and have some amateur skills of working in Camtasia Studio, so I would like to get action camera for diversifying my routine lifetime ;) I've never had any device like this before and it would be nice to try something new.

Do these cameras rotate the recording based on if it is being used upside down? Can it record upon vehicle startup (if powered by vehicle as dash cam)? Do they have looping features?
They rotate, but not automatically, you have to set it in the menu. They do have loop recording, but not auto power-up and start when connected to a power source.
Both manufacturers have dash cameras and they are way cheaper. They also have special features for that purpose and are more light sensitive for recording at low light. I know it's tempting to get one camera for both jobs as action and dash camera, but each type has pros and cons in each situation.
I would love to own this camera for our walk around filming on our paranormal films, it would be ideal for our daytime investigations as it is so light and responsive, truly perfect for our needs. Thanks for the review, I found it fair and interesting.

I haven't had an action camera before. Or a simple camera, for that matter. I've only used my phone's camera. Which is only best for taking personal memories. If I get one of this, I'll be sure to use it when I take part in marathons or while taking a hike.
