    There is a hidden screw facing the window that is a pain to get out with a normal screwdriver. If you don't know it's there it will stop you from opening the grey part. Also once that has been opened I have not been able to remove the blue thing (which in my case is caked in mold) to clean it. So not quite as easy as you say however this video really helped getting to that point so thanks for sharing your knowledge.

    • @dpscomposer
      @dpscomposer 2 роки тому +1

      On the end where the motor is connected there's a screw you have to loosen, there's a hole in the blue thing to allow access, then you can separate blue thing from motor to clean.

    One thing I did use, and worked great, after I knew these were clips.... Automotive plastic pannel tools. 2 of the wedges fit in the gap, and just move them along together, speaced out a bit... thing just zippered open on the sider and then top. Also used them to get the vent clips off.

      The only thing I don't like about it is that you cannot take the fan out and clean it.
      For instance these types of fans are very common now very quiet, they're in the air purifiers, and even tower fans.
      For instance my DREO Tower fan has the same type of fan in it. Super quiet good quality. But they made it super easy where you can unscrew a couple of things and take it right out!! And you can clean it in the sink or you can vacuum it whatever..
      Midea makes it nearly impossible to do that and you can see that they could make it exactly like THE DREO fan and be able to take it out.
      That just pisses me off.
      Because even though it's working fine still. You could see that there is mold and there's nothing you can do about it on the fan.. took a couple years to get like that. It's unavoidable in air conditioners.
      And it's making a little bit of a whining noise now kind of annoying but not too loud. I know it's because of the dust that's built up near the motor..
      Now I have to find a way to rip this whole thing apart and clean it start all over again.
      Some videos out there that took care of that for me cuz I didn't have to do that at the time I made this video.
      But a pain in the ass!!

Since you were doing a tutorial, it would have been nice if you had demonstrated how to take the front off, disconnecting the USB thing and the wire harness on the left side, even though you may not have needed to. I also bought the Midea 8000 BTU July 2023 when my house AC went out. It is very cheap to operate. So that is a plus. But just turned it on first time in 2024 and not working. NOT COOLING and error code 07. Called customer support and they will not honor the warranty unless I send a copy of receipt. Which I don't have anymore. So for around $400 I got about 4 months use out of it. Also had mold issues as most customers are noticing on the blower fan. Not happy.

    Clean the filter out every week, what's the big deal? The big deal is that, if we have to clean the filter out every week for it to not get mold, then that's a design flaw. I have normal LG ACs in my other rooms for years and none of them have molds. Fortunately for me, I can still return this AC and not deal with the tear down. Thanks for posting though. 8000 is to big for a small room but the midea being an inverter compressor it works fine. The compressor slows down and and the blower as well effective reducing the capacity of the unit. It won't be too humid, a standard PSC compressor window air, yes it would be to big and wouldn't dehumidify properly.

I'll edit my comment with some part numbers or equivalents if I find it.

    • @thefix-itguyreviewer8151
      @thefix-itguyreviewer8151  2 роки тому

      I think you're really out of luck I don't know how you broke them that doesn't make any sense.
      When I talk to them about things wrong with the machine they don't service them.
      How did you break it if it's under a year old you could go to the website and text them right through the website with via live chat.
      And if they feel that it is a manufacturing era they will give you a complete refund and tell you to keep your machine.
      Again they don't service these machines I don't think they can get parts.
      I guess you would have to call an air conditioner service center to see if they could get them.
      You could look on Google type in not make and model number and type in replacement parts and see what you get.
      As for cleaning. One guy said he used a water pick gum cleaner that squirts water. He took off the front grate. Metal thing.
      He squirted the hell out of the blue fan. All that water will drop into the pin right below it and then go out the back through one of the channels on the left and right side.
      If you take off the filter and look right below because it's curved You could see the channel to the right and left You could literally pour some water in that little pan and it will drain to the back.
      So you squirt water all over it and then it will drop down and go to the back.
      One other nice thing you can do is put those algae tablets in the back where the water pools.
      What happens is if you look at that curve as I mentioned when you take the filter off. As a humidity goes through those fins the water will drip down in the pan and then drain to the back. You put algae tabs in the back and it will stop all that gunky crap.
      Once a year I take off the back and I take a hose and I squirt all the crap out of there.
      To get most of the water out of there after you're done using it for the year. You can also just take a cloth Stick it in the very back hanging out right where the drip pan is where all the water pools. The little microfiber rag hanging down wool soak up all the water and drip out.
      There's always maintenance on these machines.
      To really stop the mole from developing you must must must clean the filter at least once a week I don't care if it tells you clean it once a month
      Clean it as often as you can.
      Moisture develops on those blue fan things and then what happens is if you have a dirty filter all the time microorganisms and dust will collect on the blue fan getting through the dirty filter This causes mold growth quickly.

    I'm 99% certain that my unit is installed correctly. It is tilted back and has no issues. I left it in throughout winter here in southeast NC. I'm ready to power it up for the new year and trying to decide what is the best approach to maintenance. Last summer when I put it in, I consistently cleaned the filter ever 2 weeks. I also vacuum/ clean with mold killer/inhibiter the front area of any bugs, dust, ect. I also fogged the unit while off every month for mold. I'm allergic to mold and unfortunately need to have a window unit in my bonus room office. As I haven't had any issues breathing all winter long, I assume that it is mold-free. Corrosion/scale appears to be forming at the bottom rear fins. Also rust color water coming out where the frame meets at the rear. Notice the internal screws in the rear started rust after the first week (look through the side vents). Runs and cool fine.

    • @thefix-itguyreviewer8151
      @thefix-itguyreviewer8151  2 роки тому +1

      The smell is probably from cleaning and stuff like that..
      Make sure your air conditioner is tilted backwards.
      I don't know how the smells getting in from the back it doesn't make any sense.
      How's it going to squeeze through that little section. I think I explain that in the video.
      You could put one of those window air conditioner algae tabs in the back where the water collects..
      I'm going to do that too.
      I still don't understand how people are getting smell from the back of the air conditioner if it's tilted backwards.
      There's no way for that to come into the air conditioner in the front they are completely separate That's why it is a split system.
      It has to be coming from the fan in the front.
      If you clean it really good maybe with 1 tbsp of bleach and fill the bottle with water. Being careful not to get the bleach on the bearings and stuff just spray it on the towel or paper towels.
      I don't know if you actually took the entire fan out I haven't tried that. If you could do that then you could wash the whole thing in the sink or the bathtub.
      I haven't had any mold on mine yet.

      I really would like to give it a try but I'm not messing with it until I need to.
      Soon as I do I will put it up.
      But I really upkeep on cleaning the filter which is the biggest reason why mold grows on that blue fan.
      I don't know if I mention it to you before but microorganisms grow on that dirty filter. And then water condensation builds up on that fan no matter what on any air conditioner. The dirty filter causes more dust to go through and those microorganisms start to grow mold on the water that's on the blue fan.
      Like I was saying to the other guy. There was one person on Facebook group that was saying. He uses the water pick gum cleaner that shoots a hard stream of water. He takes the great off in the front and sprays the hell out of it with it. It gets most of the mold off and then it drips down into the pan right below and then channels out to the back..
      That's how the air conditioner works anyways. If you take the filter off and pour a cup of water right into that pan you will see it'll disappear right out the channel into the back where it pools and then that water helps cooling the coils because the fan in the back will grab the water and throw it on the coils.. It's called super cooling.. That's why a lot of people should not drill holes in the back to drain the water.
      So if you spray it with the waterpik carefully The water should pull up in that pan just watch it And it should go right out the back..

    Hate to tell you, but that screen is not stopping "micro organisms" from entering the unit. You would have to have a pretty significant filter to stop mold spores, and that would be too restrictive for the unit. Dampness and warmth is why the unit grows mold.

    Doesn’t it have a fan controller? Ik it says it’s an inverter and setting a constant speed would defeat the purpose but if an oversized window unit causes humidity issues would setting the fan to a lower speed actually help?

    • @thefix-itguyreviewer8151
      @thefix-itguyreviewer8151  2 роки тому

      No that's not the issue. And it does have a fan controller.
      The problem is the fan stays on when the compressor goes off. On traditional air conditioners The compressor shuts off at the same time as this fan.
      So because the fan still stays on very low and is controlled by the controller because it doesn't shut off completely it's constantly flowing humidity back into the room
      It really is a defect..
      When the controller shuts off the compressor it should also shut off the fan..

    • @whitslack
      @whitslack 2 роки тому +3

      @@thefix-itguyreviewer8151 It's not a design flaw. The blower stays on at a low speed when the room temperature is slightly below the set point. This ensures that the air in the room gets mixed thoroughly so it's a consistent temperature throughout, and it allows the unit's room air temperature sensor to get an accurate reading. If the blower were stopped, then the room air temperature sensor would only be reading the temperature of the air inside the evaporator compartment, which will be cooler than the room air since the evaporator coil would remain cooler than the room air for some time. If the room air cools off below the set point, then the blower will shut off completely, but it will come on briefly every so often to mix up the room air and get an accurate temperature reading, and then it will either turn off again if the room air is still below the set point, or it will ramp up the blower and start up the compressor and condenser fan if the room air is above the set point.
      (I should mention: this all only applies if you have "Eco" mode enabled. With "Eco" mode disabled, the fan may indeed run continuously, but that's just wasting energy, and you probably want to enable "Eco" mode.)

    • @thefix-itguyreviewer8151

      @@whitslack What I was told is that eco mode does not turn the compressor on as much and doesn't cool as efficiently.
      You are incorrect about the compressor.
      Go look at any regular air conditioner without the new features. The compressor literally shuts off when the fan shuts off.
      It's been proven that this unit when the fan does not shut off blows moisture back into the room.
      Go look at LG air conditioners they constantly shut off when the fan shuts off.
      This causes less moisture in the air
      If that's not the case explain to me why this air conditioner EVERYBODY THAT HAS IT I MEAN EVERYBODY THE MOISTURE IS ALWAYS HIGHER THAN ANY OTHER REGULAR AIR CONDITIONER WITH THE SAME BTU FACT NOT AN OPINION!!
      Please explain

    • @whitslack
      @whitslack 2 роки тому +4

      @@thefix-itguyreviewer8151 Of course the compressor shuts off if the fan is off. It would make no sense to continue running the compressor if no air is blowing through the evaporator coil. You'd just end up with a bunch of ice on the coil. However, the reverse is not true. The fan can run when the compressor is not running. This is normal operation and is true in every air conditioner, even ancient ones. You can hear the compressor kicking on and off while the fan continues humming along. Inverter-style units, such as these Midea U, do the same thing, though the compressor motor soft starts and stops, so it's not such a jarring sound.
      I'm not sure what you mean by "the moisture is higher." If you mean the humidity in the room air is higher for the same amount of cooling, then I would believe that, as these newer units are intelligently controlled so as to waste less energy on condensing water. The process of condensation releases the latent heat of vaporization of water, and that's just extra heat that then has to be pumped to the outside. Better to minimize these energy losses by keeping the evaporator coil above the dewpoint for more of the cycle.
      Did you actually read the manual? “ECO Button - Press the ECO button to initiate the Energy Saver function. […] The fan will continue to run for 3 minutes after the compressor shuts off. The fan then cycles on for 2 minutes at 10 minute intervals until the room temperature is above the set temperature, at which time the compressor turns back on and Cooling starts.” Just as I described.

      I HAD AN AIR CONDITIONER FOR 12 YEARS 12,000 BTUS NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH HUMIDITY EVER EVER EVER EVER!
      I did tons of research on this and this is what was found.
      Those 3 minutes every time causes whether it's an auto mode or not the moisture to get thrown back into the room. So usually the humidity is about 5 to 10% more with this air conditioner.
      These are scientific facts that cannot be argued with.
      Just go look at your own air conditioner and stop getting so technical.
      Go get something to measure the humidity.

      I just did some research because guess what.
      I looked inside my air conditioner and it is too leaking in the front right hand corner of the coils.. looks like It is leaking about an inch up on the coils where the overhang is.

      I think I've went over this before I don't remember. If you look up how an air conditioner works The drainage is important for cooling the coils in the back. It's part of the system.
      A lot of people ignorantly drill holes in their air conditioner they're actually used to be a plug and older air conditioners you can take out. But you're supposed to put the plug back in and let the water build up in the back if it's tilted correctly
      Then the fan blades in the back spin the water on the coils to keep the air conditioner cool in the back.
      It's actually really important. I know it's a pain but it's what you're supposed to do..
      I guess a lot of air conditioners when they run too hot can get destroyed. So that's why they Don't have the option for a plug anymore to drain it because there's no way to really prove anything if the air conditioner gets too hot and gets ruined.. solution is don't have a drainage hole in don't drain it.
      You can put algae tabs in the back every year you should maybe get a hose and kind of wash the back out.. people supposed to do maintenance on their air conditioners and never do.
      The most important thing basically to stop mold which you'll never stop it's part of the whole system unfortunately that's just the way it is water and mold go hand in hand.
      Clean your air filters more than necessary.. clean them twice a week.. vacuum them at least twice a week or wash them I vacuum them with any vacuum that has a hose. You can also blow them out outside or wash them which is the best but then you have to wait for them to dry.
      Hope that helps

      I was just trying to be helpful to the people who had questions about how to generally open the air conditioner..

      If you used it for a long time water drips down into that pan you can see it because it's curved filter.. other air conditioners are square so you don't see it dripping. That water is supposed to drip back into the back of the pan through the window through a couple of holes and that's where you see the water build up in the back The fan in the back then spins using that water to cool the coils.
      A lot of people unfortunately drill holes in the bottom of the air conditioner is getting rid of that water when it's actually part of the cooling system..
      So it's perfectly normal as long as the water is not overflowing coming onto your floor and it should be tipped backwards a little bit to go through the holes in the pan into the back of the unit.
      But that is perfectly normal unless the holes are clogged and there's too much water and it drips over the pan into the front on your floor
