My old York 3 ton from 1991 was very quiet, and lasted through to spring of 2020 when the slow leak in the system got bad and recharge of the old freon was running $100 a pound ! I graduated to substantial Mitsubishi split system. Talk about quiet? Pretty un-eventful LOL. The biggest show is right after defrost when the fan kicks back on for heat mode. STEAM for a few seconds. Thanks again for this presentation.

The house i live in was built in 1978 and it has a carrier air conditioner but i don’t know the year of it (I can’t tell you the address bc youtube doesn’t allow that)
Most homes in my area that are two stories have dual zone, and single story homes usually just have one. My neighbors with the American Standard have just one zone.

@@no-damn-alias Bit like a facade it feels like. But also some of it is just the attitude of not changing what's not broken. Then again we're barely getting out of the mindset of AC + gas everything else.
It's not too common, that is the only one I've seen like it. Most brands have a side discharge model like that, though you don't see them around nearly as much as a normal air conditioner.

We have them in aus, and it’s really only them and ducted systems. Only the really heavy duty air cons have top mount fans.
It probably uses some kind of vf drive for the compressor and evaporator fan. That's why it is so quiet

Beside inverter compressor. The compressor of the sideways blower type is usually insulated in a case that's why it's quieter.
