Reminds me of those extreme body/spine alignment videos with chiropractors that look like they’re destroying your skeleton hah. Except here it’s definitely helpful
After watching these theory videos I feel like an absolute dummy for playing guitar for 13 years without attempting to learn this stuff. So incredibly useful.
This is one of the most memorable, quirky, informative videos on songwriting I’ve ever seen. He actually drops so much knowledge in a way that doesn’t feel overloading.
I rarely post comments on youtube but you just deserve it so much, doing 30+ minutes long lessons all FOR FREE almost everyday. You're helping me so much with guitar and I learned so many songs all thanks to you! So from the bottom of my heart, Stuart thank you very much :)
Order of our song for reference: Riff 4 times. Verse 4 times. Chorus 4 times. Go back to Riff 2 times. (Interlude) Verse 2 times. Chorus 4 times. Bridge 2 times. Chorus 4 times. (The amount of times played for each section can be changed as you wish) (Also write a melody for your verse, chorus, and bridge. Each melody should start with a different note than the others so each section sounds different.) For recording the song I am personally using REAPER and it's also free. Also thank you so much for this tutorial! This helped immensely in wrapping my head around the song writing process.
Wow i’m 48 years old self-taught been playing for 30 years and I I have major learning disabilities you should have been my teacher from second grade on, you need to be on Sesame Street bro. Lol thank you
Let me just tell you my friend, watching your video, with guitar in my hand, first time in my life I have realised, I can write song too. You have made the journey easier for me today :)
I've been looking for something exactly like this for a while and honestly, I don't know if i could ask for a better video. Especially with that final screw up on the final chord XD really humanizes the whole thing imo lol
So many videos on songwriting I physically can’t sit through and maintain my attention no matter how hard I try because I desperately want to be able to sit through them 😂 this one kept me 100% focused the entire time. Bravo sir
@@marinmusic but I do really find him funny compared to Marty Schwartz I laugh at the Marty looks but I laugh because this guy is just mentally brilliant if all tutorials were like this humanity would time travelling by now
Hey stuart im a big fan of your channel I just want to let you know my dream is to become a music artist and this video helped me a lot. Please keep doing more of these type of videos I love them thanks!
That was great, love the step by step process, and the limitations to make sure we actually do it instead of being overwhelmed, great pedagogy right there, thx for this ! :D
Songwriting and learning something new on guitar makes me feel so giddy, makes me feel like such a kid no matter how far I get in my exp. of playing.. Sometimes even drinking casually makes me play better 😂
Wow. I've been watching all the video to understand everything and the whole song its just amazing. It blows my mind (not literally, glad about that I guess) how good it sounds I actually like it! And I've been three days trying mine but I needed this lesson. I will try to make a new try following your steps, many many thanks ! :D I know you from the video of Duvet tutorial... That was the first video I saw from yours XD
26:35 The reason you probably like this is because you kind of recreated part of the bridge to Sarah by Alex G without noticing lol. Which makes this tutorial all the more compelling
the end is legendary! nice song dude almost like a hit jajjajjaa need to watch this like a couple of times to write my own song im a litle lazy to learn theory but this is great lml
This was SO helpful and exactly what I was looking for!! How, though, do you determine which notes of the scale belong in the scale fragments you chose for the riff and melody?
Yay! So glad it’s useful! Any notes from the entire major scale will work great, I just picked scale fragments that are easy to play and keep track of! Later on I’ll continue the “series” of theory lessons and cover MUCH more scale stuff!!
I took guitar lessons when I was a young kid and I me er learned what a “fret” was! You just showed me, though I did watch once and again, rely zoomed. I get on the piano what are the major and minor notes but not on guitar and I don't understand what different major or minor chords
i usually have to force myself to sit through a lesson video, but you make everything so much fun somehow. i don't know how to explain it, but your ENERGY LOL
That is a beautiful Martin. What model is it? I'm glad you put a basic Theory lesson in this video. I don't think it's necessarily a prerequisite for writing a song, but it definitely helps to know a few chords, and why they sound good together.
Stuart is going to singlehandedly make everyone in guitar community a better musician
NOT single-handedly - you don’t even understand how much the feedback and support from you guys helps!! ❤️❤️❤️
@@marinmusicya definitely not single-handedly, it clearly takes two hands to play the guitar
This feels sm like a real lesson and you make me feel extremely comfortable even if we’re not face to face but it helps me learn better

I’m sure you get the enough, but you are honestly the best guitar teachers on the internet. I hope you get the recognition you deserve!

agreed

I was so stressed about music theory, clicked this video for your vibes and to learn simultaneously and it’s the best decision I’ve made today
I think the name Stuart suits Stuart very well.
Right? Stuart looks just like a Stuart.
Honestly this guys energy kept me watching the video.

this has been so helpful! writing a song always seemed really intimidating, so breaking it down like this and making it fun is very epic

Verse 2 times.
