  • Get ready to learn how to (and how NOT to) use the Flat Iron method of decoupage as I create a Texas Longhorn Bureau and go all-in on blending paint in this dresser makeover.
    Watch this tutorial to learn:
    * How to properly prep a piece for Flat Iron decoupage.
    * How to use a Dry Brush and water to blend paint on furniture.
    * How to use the layering paint technique.
    * How to incorporate paint flecking technique.
    * How to apply decoupage papers around dresser drawers.
    I love playing with paint and blending paint on furniture. You’ll see in this tutorial how I dive into the creative process and layering paint on and around decoupage. I let my instincts guide my blending and color layers.
    And hey - I make “mistakes” which allows me to go through the fix-it process so you can see how it’s done. Wait till you see me do a little “Bull botox” with some glue...works great. Catch it halfway through the video.
    Here are the products I used in this project:

    Michelle, I've watched a LOT of your videos and I truly enjoy your style, your laid back manner and attitude, as well as your talent. But today is the first time I have seen this video and I was dumbfounded when I realized it was YOU. I had to double check to make sure it was you, and then you appeared on camera and I was immediately awestruck! Honestly, I had no idea you did anything like this. I would so love to be able to do this, the first time, without totally ruining it. LOL, I need to start with something smaller for sure, and I do have IOD's Desperado just waiting for the right piece as well as a little more confidence! I just need to start with bits of it, I know. Thank you for sharing this one. I personally want to see more like this.

      Wow! Thank you! I haven’t done a decoupage video in a while, huh? Although I used the iron method with this, I most often do the traditional method. I like grungy, aged, layered, textured, etc, so the wrinkles don’t bother me at all. I suggest starting with something smaller for decoupage and just dive in. I have many papers and a wide price range on my website. I guess its time to do another Longhorn piece, though, because I LOVE this particular paper :)

    Fantastic job! Wow, what a transformation. It's good to watch videos that show how cool a decoupage can turn out even if the subject seems a little "out there", like the steer. I wouldn't know what to do with it but your paint and artistry around it brought it to life.

    I don't know what to say. That was just amazing to put it mildly. What you did with the paint transformed the piece. I loved how you made a simple piece of paper into something that blended seamlessly into the design. You are definitely not afraid to take chances to achieve something that will be appreciated for years.

    Great piece! My question is what Decoupage medium did you use? If I used mod podge would I just paint that on the front And let it dry. And then iron on my deck at posh image?

    • @serendipityhousellc
      @serendipityhousellc  2 роки тому

      I personally don't like Mod Podge on the front of a piece for sealer. It looks like glue to me. When I use it for the back, I topcoat with Wise Owl Varnish or DIY Paint Big Top.

    Wow. That’s the best diy I’ve every seen..... love it so much, if I lived closer I’d buy it ... the best I’ve seen.. such talent, live in a cabin in Alaska and would look so lovely in my place.... Question, did you seal it after you decoupaged? Not sure what you said as in reference to it bubbling.

    • @serendipityhousellc
      @serendipityhousellc  3 роки тому

      Hey Sue-Anne - we ship the kits and all our products to Alaska! Rather than decoupage - I used a furniture transfer by Iron Orchid Design, and I used a heat gun to pop the air bubbles. You can read the step-by-step directions here: serendipity.house/blogs/tutorials/easy-diy-home-decor-project-wood-serving-tray-with-diy-paint-iod-transfers-epoxy-resin. Let me know if you have any questions!

  • @sue-annesmith5861
    @sue-annesmith5861 3 роки тому

    Thanks for such a quick response. Anther question .. I live in Alaska and shipping is no joke... real expensive, can I use different paint brands with different waxes and so forth? Right now I’m hooked on DIY paint but so expensive to get it shipped in.... Thank you and have a great day....

    • @serendipityhousellc
      @serendipityhousellc  3 роки тому

      Pretty sure I can ship usps flat rate to Alaska, so it shouldn’t cost any more as long as it fits in a flat rate box. Not all brands are comparable with one another, although not sure which you’re using. Sometimes chemicals and solvents don’t reactor well with the natural paint products.

    I’ve never decoupaged. I’m planning to do my first piece soon. I have a few questions. I have several colors of chalk paint. Can I use those for blending, or do I need to buy DIY or Fusion mineral paints? Also, how do you decide which method to use? Iron on or the other way?

    • @serendipityhousellc
      @serendipityhousellc  3 роки тому +1

      You can use any paint but they won’t all work the same., my preferred paint for blending is either Wise Owl chalk or DIY PAint. As for iron on versus traditional, I suggest trying both to see which you prefer. I actually enjoy the traditional method and can get a pretty smooth application with a brayer. It all just takes practice. Start small :)
