Direct to Film printing with your Mutoh UV Printer is a great way to customize items that are extremely hard to decorate.
In this video we are showing a couple of examples of particular hard-to-decorate items, like textured cups, pint glasses and tumblers.
This form of DTF printing is all done with the Mutoh UV Printers and if not for apparel. But if you want to see ColDesi's new DTF Printer make custom t-shirts, watch this video: • Direct to Film Printin...
Here are the step-by-step instructions:
1. Position A sheet (adhesive sheet) shiny side up on vacuum bed of printer oriented and positioned to match your print layout. Activate vacuum bed to hold sheet down. Remove clear plastic liner from A sheet and load printer bed.
*Alternately you can either attach A sheet with masking tape or painter’s tape to a metal sheet or directly to the bed of the printer (do not place the A sheet on a “sticky/silicone mat”) - positioning it to correspond to your print page.
2. From your printing software (RIP) - select to print your design with a white under base, color layer and then clear overcoat. Typical settings would be 1440 x 720 dpi, unidirectional print for the white and clear layers and a 1440 x 720 dpi, bidirectional clear layer printed at 70% clear and a small spread on the clear.
3. Once the three layers of ink are printed to the A sheet remove the sheet and attach to a metal sheet like a 12” x 18” metal sign blank using small pieces of tape (colmanandcompany.com/aluminum... - if the blank does not have rounded corners it is advisable to slightly round them with a corner rounding tool or metal shears) and feed through the laminator set at 190’ F / 88’ C with the B roll media.
4. Remove the laminated sheet of transfers from the metal blank and trim to separate individual transfers as needed. When ready to apply transfer loosen edge of B transfer media at a corner and turn transfer face down (A sheet side up) and gently peel back A sheet from B film until completely free. Maintain as much as a 180’ angle when pulling A sheet free.
5. Apply the transfer to the surface desired by slowly working from one side to the other smoothing out any bubbles that form as you go (start at the middle for transfers that may be recessed in the middle). Once the transfer is smooth, firmly pressed down and bubble free gently pull away the B film like the A film - 180’ in a smooth motion.
Let transfer set for 24 hours to allow adhesive to full set to substrate before testing adhesion.

This is impressible in all the meanings of the word!!!
✅Great video
super explain thank you
This is pretty groundbreaking stuff!
I remember when I was first introduced to DTG a decade ago. I used to call up Coldesi for technical support. I never thought all these processes could eventually evolve into a Film Transfer process. Soo good coldesi!
Would it help to warm up the metal substrates to relieve some of the surface tension?
Hey Selling! Thanks for the shout out. We haven't found the need for any extra steps in this process.
I need your help in a matter and I apply it in the same way, but after printing, when separating the A film from the B film, although I am very careful, do the paints have wrinkles in the paint? I need your help in this matter.
I have UV mimaki printer can i use UV dtf film only or it need another UV ink comptible to the film?
Does this type of printing have high stability with friction and cleaning with dishwashing liquid??
I have a mutoh 1624 not sure if u have something similar im experimencing smudging and i cant seem to see or know why as i dont hear any noise my maintenance station is used but still looks in good condition why does the smudging of black occur ? Also slowly getting banding to
Do you have to print white, and then clear coat to make it dishwasher or washing in sink safe?
What is the washability of this process, with the DTF lift over time?
En Mexico hay este equipo de DTF UV ?
It would be great if the laminate paper had grid lines so you can put it on straight every time and in the same place

Is it recommended in a coffee mug?
Are A-B sheet films from Coldesi?? I cannot find them in your website... Would you be so kind to share with us what is your A-B film sheet supplier?
is that dishwasher safe?
Does it work on plastic?
I have a question. I've got some uv prints getting done for bmx parts. Specifically a bmx sprocket, the sprocket has a hole in the center . The print will cover the hole, but obviously there is no material where the whole is. Do you think it would mess up the application when trying to remove it ? Perhaps taking up the rest of the decal ? (Hope I'm making sense)
You should be fine and not have to worry about the hole. UV is not a decal at all, it jets the ink onto the surface, so nothing to peel up!
@@ColDesiColman thank you for your reply. Very much appreciated. Perhaps I incorrectly labeled the type of print I'm getting . I believe they are UV transfer. I looked at some product reviews and see that buyers typically got these prints to later adhere to packaging, in some instances even awards . I've ordered them to place onto a metal BMX sprocket . The application shows you apply the print, apply pressure and then pull off a top layer . My concern was the hole in the center of the sprocket . Having nothing behind it that small area would be "unstuck." When removing the top layer I'm hoping it does not cause an issue.
Are these prints dishwasher safe?
whats the laminator called?
I guess if the transfer would be a little rigid it would be easier to stick it to the object.
Can this machine run on Mac OS?
Hi, Dear sir, thanks for your video, where can I get this printer, and are u using a cold laminator?
Here is a link to the Mutoh 661UF Printer. coldesi-uvprinter.com/mutoh-661uf-uv-printer/ It uses a hot laminator
Do you need special ink for this? Or can you use this printer for uv dtf & standard uv printer
With our Mutoh UV Printers the same ink is used for both standard UV printing and UV DTF printing.
This is nice to see but I’m trying to understand the sheet used.
Is that a special dtf sheet with a dtf pickup or is that just any sheet with glue picked up by the backing paper.
I can see that no powder was used so I’m guessing the glue was already on the sheet.
I’m looking at costs.
Printer cost + cost of that sheet, release paper etc.
Thanks.
Got it:
It is a special UV direct to film kit - you can find the details here: colmanandcompany.com/Laminator-and-UV-Film-kit.html

I've been trying to do this with my products by using my Cricut to cut out words, but it's too time consuming. This would be a game changer for smaller businesses. If you look at some cosmetic products their labels are basically tattooed onto their jars. The general public hasn't had much access to this or well I wasn't aware that it was. I didn't even know what it was actually called. This is the closest thing to it that I've seen. I really want to find someone who will print them up for me so I can use them for my jars. If you guys can help with this please let me know.

How long will the decal last on the tumbler/ glass /drinkware ? Can this be done on a ceramic coffee mug ? What are the care instructions for finished product ? Handwash only , dishwasher safe etc?

@@ColDesiColman your “UV Experts” can’t answer a simple product question on youtube? Is it dishwasher safe or not? What’s the expected performance? I’d refuse to do business with a company that doesn’t want to publicly disclose basic product info… and I’m sure many others feel the same
I don’t want to buy a printer I want to buy the transfers. Can you connect me with one of your customers so I can purchase transfers for my business. Awesome product!
Couldn't be a end product for usable conditions....all images should be glazed, resined, sealed to be usable under certain condiotions, unless more complex print baking method is involved.

You can actually UV Print directly onto golf balls. We did it in this video - ua-cam.com/video/Ov1LcqJ-Sb0/v-deo.html
can this go on a shirt??
is there a uv tranfer for shirts?
No - UV printing is not for apparel. DTG (direct-to-garment) printing is somewhat similar in the way that it prints directly on apparel. Check out this video to see how it works - ua-cam.com/video/s__f6sbNGxI/v-deo.html

DTF for UV
Can we do this on a regular direct to garment printer
You can make DTF transfers for APPAREL with a DTG Printer. UV Ink and DTG ink are very different technologies.
Please can you help me to setup mine
Is this only for making stickers or can it print as dtf and shirts .
UV Ink is not appropriate for garments.

@@ColDesiColman Ok. Anyway, I found a local print shop (chinese) here who converted an Epson L1800 into a UV ink printer for $1960 with white ink but without a varnish. Thou the maximum printarea is only 8x14 inches because it still uses the paper roller and has no vacuum tray to hold the film. And also doing the same process.
