I like how the intro starts with the guitar riff, implying we are going to get another rock-sounding version of the theme. But then the trumpet comes on. It even makes sense for the hilarity of the character. The fact that the trumpet goes hard is even more amazing.
My only wish is that the bass had fewer lows and more mids. You definitely *feel* it more than you necessarily *hear* it like you did in the original. And that bass part plays such a vital melodic role in the 0:44 portion of the theme. This is definitely just a modern sound engineering thing though. I had the same complaint about what used to be the Wall Market theme in FF7 (reused for side characters in Remake).

Ikr. I thought the fight w gilgamesh would b way harder until I fought him, like the battle w magus on chrono trigger, which was so damn hard that the story thus far made me think he was the final boss only to find out that was only about halfway through the game!😂😂😂😂
I didn't think it was possible for this theme to sound any better but they did it. This is a perfect blend of the original chip tunes and The Black Mages version and takes the best elements of both.
I need someone to reccomend similar boss themes, this has a certain magic I've never heard anywhere else, it's simultaneously threatening but fun, silly but action packed, it feels so adventurous. So swashbuckling

@@gronodon Like I said he's officially called Butz in Japan, whenever they write his name in romanji, but you're right that he was never called that in official English translations, since PS1(first official English release) his name was adapted to Bartz. And that wasn't the first time they adapted a character name in the West, for example the dragoon character in FF IV is known as Kain in English, but in Japanese his name is written as Cain, just like the character from the bible.
