When Roy fell head over heels for the maiden release I ordered two bottles of it from a UK site on faith. When I opened it also opened a Macallan 12 (old brown box version) to compare. Was a fun to have them side by side. Have one left to open around Christmas time. Cheers Jim
@@WhiskeyNovice Definitely, get what you mean with the soy sauce umami thing it has neat. With 46% Whisky I also am cautious with water. Just one drop does a lot. Chatted with Doc/Macallan fine and rare about this subject. It's more about organic chemistry than dilution especially with NCF Whisky. Would love to see him as a guest on a livestream with Roy talking about this topic.Actually Whiskygeek/Ben would be good to have on for the subject too.
It was crazy - as soon as Jim started referencing soy sauce and other savoury flavours I was thinking of exactly those distinctive Edradours! They're some of my favourites to include in tastings for friends who like sherried whiskies because of what a surprise they can be. I have had the inaugural but not the 2021 Glenturret 12 - if I remember correctly the 2020 release was sweeter with a more typical sherry notes. I'm curious about how this might go over with people who liked the previous one.
Having not seen or tasted this Glenturret 12, I can only go by your review, but it had me thinking of Glen Garioch 12 as being something similar. And yes, the 'IF YOU LIKED THIS... " segment is my favorite part too ✌️
Cheers Chris. Haven't tried Glen Garioch so we're both relying on each other. I wasn't aware that the "IF YOU LIKE THIS.." segment meant a whole lot until Roy told me folk liked it. It's always/generally a challenge to pick something but one I enjoy.
@@WhiskeyNovice Cool. Keep an eye out for Glen Garioch; it tends to be excellent stuff. And tell Roy that I miss his "Recycled Reviews" next time you talk! Cheers!
Another fine review Jim. Absolutely love the Glenturret 12, we think the Maiden Release is a little richer than the latest expression ... but this is fine whisky all the same. Always good when a big money takeover results in improvements. Andys just bought another bottle of this as he’s worried about it running out LOL. Will have to see if we can track down your alternative too ... sounds right up our street! Slainthe 🥃
Sounds like an interesting one Jim, great review as ever. Obviously heard Roy having about it on the vPub but haven't tried it myself. Must try it someday.
Intriguing! Enigmatic! Umami (had to look that one up!). Might be a bit beyond me (the subtleties lost on me) just yet (only a few years in on the journey). Thanks for grappling wi' it, big man! :)
Happy days. We're most likely heading off the first week of July ourselves but, I'm sure we'll still crossover at some point. We have to get out for a drink at least.
Great review Jim, and coincidently I tried this Friday night a very generous sample to, it's definitely one I need to revisit. Hope your dry January is flying mate. Cheers
Not tried the 2021 release, but fell in love with the maiden release. Tried a couple of samples, saw the bottle at under £60 so had to take the plunge. The first few glasses sadly have been quite sulpher heavy. From listening to your notes, I knew you was going to suggest that bottle. Another fantastic sweet and savoury beast. Cheers Jim!
Still waiting for the GT 12 to make it to the States but will make room for it on my shelf. The price does take into account the bottle and frankly I am okay with that. I am sure that it will look good on my shelf and the bottle can be a part of me enjoying my collection. Glad that the liquid seems to reflect the packaging. Cheers my friend.
Cheers Bill. I forgot to include (amongst all those words 😄) unique. What I'd say this whisky brings is a unique look and feel. Would definately recommend it graces your cabinet buddy.
Tried a sample of this , loved it . Tried a sample of the peated expression as well and thought it was great as well 👍 It is a bit expensive but I think the bottle makes it a worthy buy 🥃🥃
Cheers Neil. Aye it is in the pricey range for sure but, you do feel like you're getting your money's worth. Must look into the peated version buddy, ta.
When I tried this one first time It was weird experience.. but with time it started to be more enjoyable... and definitely is close to edradour profile... Great review Jim... cheers
Beautiful review, bringa tears to my eyes. A shop here just stocked up on 4 of the core range. The 12 is $20 less than the Edradour. I'm tempted by the 15 @53% but that's almost double the price of the 12. So that doesn't make any sense , does it?
Hi Jim, good and an interesting review👍💪. Late last year I had the Glenturret 12 in one hand and Redbreast 12 CS in the other and eventually I picked the Redbreast, a mistake 🤔 don’t know yet? Anyway as I said, good and enjoyable review. Slàinte Mhath Jim .
Thanks for shining a light on this one. I've yet to try this whisky, but when a Whisky Novice says it's not for beginners, who am I then to give it a try? 😊 I've heard that the new Royal Bracla 12yo (46%) is in the same veign as this Glenturret. And I've had that one... and like it. So I might give this Glenturret a try as well. Slàinte mhath
😄😄 when I say it's not for beginners Frank...you're one of the first people that makes me think..."he'll have tried this! He'll know what I'm talking about!" I was genuinely surprised when you said you hadn't had it yet. Once again....so many whiskies 😔. If man was truly destined to be a whisky enthusiast, he'd start drinking at the age of 10...live till he's 300 and have a limited supply of cash 😄 Will have to give the Royal Brackla a go. Just got one of these today. I'm most impressed.
Way too moreish. I love it. A real old school classic. Worth every penny. This and the Glen Garioch 12 are perma shelf staples.
Love Glenturret Jim. I use an empty bottle as my infinity blend bottle. Fab to hold and pour from.
Sounds like this one is well worth checking out. Thanks Jim

I have exactly those two bottles, and before the reveal I was shouting ”Edradour, Edradour”.
😄😄 phew! It's not just me then?! Cheers.
@@WhiskeyNovice Your no doubt aware that the Signatory Vintage is an ‘Integrity”bottling, unlike Edradour’s own.

According to WN, Glenturret 12, then, is 'sui generis'! (and that is not Gaelic!)
his oldest scoch whiskey ?
