The most realistic interpretation of the Beauty and the Beast where the beast doesn't need to change.
Love the person for who and what they are, don't expect them to change to your typical prince charming.
This is the reason why I love Strange Magic more than Beauty and the Beast in terms of delivering this kind of message.

In my perception of The Beauty And The Beast, it's a movie about the stockholm syndrome, because she was locked on the castle as a prisioner, and he was just using her to broke the curse, so actually, she feel in love with the fake part of him, because he wasn't kind and cute from the begining, he turned into that to make her fall in love with him, just because of the curse, and eventually he also falled in love. She didn't changed anything of herself, but he pretended to be someone that he wasn't. On the movie, she falls in love with her jailer, and it's very problematic that most of people see this movie as a beutiful love history, when actually it's a wrong vision of love. A lot of people (woman) grown up thinking that they should date a broken and bad person to use the "power of love" to change them. I don't know if I'm being too mean with the proposal of the movie, but I see it as a problematic vision of love...
I felt the same with Shrek. Why did Fiona have to change into an ogre?
I wish she stayed a human.
I thought this was based on A Midsummers Night Dream?
My animation principals teacher and my digital painting teacher were both part of the animation and concept staff of the movie!

the thing I love most about this song is that Evan Rachel Wood and Alan Cummings both have perfect singing voices but don't perfectly harmonize with each other. It's a perfect example of how Marianne and Bog are different, but fit together.

That scene sealed the deal for me. I went like, "..... Yes. He loves her. So much already and it's only the beginning. And she's getting there too because she trusted him enough to be carried." Because this is Marianne here, never the damsel in distress. But this one time she wanted to rely and trust. On Bog.

This movie just goes to show that Rotten Tomatoes is not a surefire guide to movies and that critics can be full of themselves. I mean, 16%! You want to know what other movies are 16%? Gods of Egypt and Adam Sandler's Pixels.
Come on! I think some critics are still riding that Star Wars prequel hate train. Cause there is no good reason why this movie should have such a terrible rating. It's not a 100% or even an 80% but it shouldn't be anywhere below 65%.
I have obnoxiously high standards yet I absolutely love this movie. I honestly consider it one of my favorites and I don't even like musicals but I am perfectly aware of its flaws. Yes, the first half hour or so is painfully clunky in pacing and exposition but it improves SO much after the time skip. Hell, the plot is still fairly silly and nonsensical but the feelings are so pure and real that I enjoyed it anyway. And I'm the first person to complain about a weak plot.
Not all movies should try and be some epic masterpiece nor do they need to be.
That is so beautiful. I like this movie too if only for the visuals and the raw emotions it shows. I didn't see it when it first came out but I'm finding myself liking this movie more and more the more I watch it

Actually, it should be more like 35%, since George Lucas insults both Star Wars fans and girls, saying that Star Wars is for 12-year old boys and Strange Magic is like “Star Wars for girls”. Also, most of the character designs are uncanny and a few of the characters are very annoying (especially Roland and Sunny).
But yes, I agree that this movie is underrated. 17% is a bit harsh, but 65% is just too much IMO.

When I first watched it it was pretty cringe BUT alot of musicals are (coming from someone who really enjoys musicals haha, they're cringe but good).
But my 2nd time watching it I LOVED IT. Kinda shows that a movie can change when you watch it with either a positive or negative mindset. I love the jukebox music in it since the actors sing amazingly in them and the song choices are very nice. Wild thing and strange magic.... SO GOOD seriously!!! I also love how Bog king and Marianne actually get together after being heartbroken (I'm not a fan of other side plots but I love the main story and it's message) AND the design and animation are beautiful. AND FINALLY I fucking LOVE the characters of Bog and Marianne - the first female character I've actually ever enjoyed (as a female myself), I love her character growth so much!!!
....((Also Roland is such a fun character and I love his voice haha, he's just such a fun villain, I know some critics hated him but he's such a highlight to the movie and I can't imagine the villain being anyone other than him)).
100℅ agree. When it comes to films I am so picky. But this movie I love. Hell yeah it's got its flaws all over the place. But the good stuffs are done right. I don't like musicals that much. But I like the jukebox style actually. It's not try hard on writing their own original songs. I love the movie regardless of its flaws. Side flaws, nothing too big. Hence I love it. I love the core message being delivered perfectly. I love the main characters, even the side ones like Thang and Stuff. All lovable.

I'm surprised that this movie is getting a lot of hate. I actually enjoyed it and everyone else I've shown the movie to watch enjoyed it too. Well, everyone have different tastes, too bad though. The story line was fine and the songs were awesome. So to speak, this is my favorite song and scene from the movie

I watched this movie when I was 11 in Alaska. My mom let me rewatch the movie. Now I’m 16, still watching it. I can’t believe it’s on Disney+ now and this song is very catchy.

I love this version as much as the original, it's such a dreamy song and this version has such a lovely intro....it was an amazing film too,I have a wildlife garden which I love but I'm terrified of moths and butterflies heh, I hope after watching this film a few times I'll get over my silly phobia!

My son and I loved this movie, we are planning on buying this when it comes to DVD. The hate this got is because there are people that are just not appreciative of this style of movie, but it is still good none the less.

as far as animated movies go, this movie is way better than most of the recent ones being spewed out. It uses love as an important plot device without being clichéd or childish, which is hard to do nowadays. You can usually predict the plot of these types of movies, but Strange Magic kept me guessing the entire time. It didn't go how I thought it would, and I thought it was amazing.

I listened to this song about 20 times yesterday; I kid you not.
I'm still on the fence about this movie (though I have heard from friends that, while it is far from perfect and pretty simple, it is getting a lot more hate than it deserves and is very enjoyable) but regardless, this is a really beautiful cover of a song I absolutely adore to begin with. I'm usually very skeptical about poppy covers of songs, but this one won me over.

Believe it or not, I was expecting this song to be in the movie right away. The title made me think of it. They actually were very faithful to the original, and Evan Rachel Wood is always amazing like in "Across the Universe".

I watched this movie for the first time ever yesterday and I have already watched it 4 times since then... working on 5th (I work at a small town motel so I have a lot of downtime).
THIS MOVIE IS SO SICKENINGLY ADORABLE I CAN'T HELP BUT LOVE IT!! Seriously, it had 2 things going against it from the get-go for me: I hate CGI and I don't like much pop music. Well, for CG it isn't bad, I think it is pretty cute and the character designs are so nice I can ignore the CG. As for the pop songs the ones they picked are pretty good and, heck, I LOVE ELO! This cover of Strange Magic is great!
Gah, it is so corny and wonderful! I found myself legitimately giggling... yes, giggling... like a stereotypical teenage girl with a picture of a boy she has a crush on after he talked to her that particular day - that kind of giggling (it was sick and pathetic but I couldn't stop because I enjoy the movie so much). This movie is like unicorns flying over sugar coated rainbows of adorable!

Thing I love most about this film is that it didn't pull a beauty and the beast, it didn't feel the need to make Bog like a pretty boy fairy after he got the girl because he didn't need to be he was fine as he was, more films need that.
This was such a romantic scene.

They chose such a great song for this moment in the film. A kindof unexpected song in many ways but that just adds to its uniqueness and the magic of the overall scene.
This song ALWAYS got into my heart. Partly, I never trusted any person for the fear that they always have some ulterior motive but this song gave me hopeⓂ❤

This is one of my favourite songs ever, and I was so glad they included it! You can't call a jukebox musical "Strange Magic" and NOT have this song on the soundtrack! The film was quite good too. There were things I think could have been greatly improved, but overall, the love story and main characters were rather compelling. Also, I unapologetically love Alan Cumming to pieces and enjoy anything he's in. XD

My favorite song in the whole movie. I can't believe I finally watched it! Since I saw the trailer and some comments on Tumblr I knew I was going to love it and I was right! But I really hate the hate this movie getting, I bet it's just because of something stupid reason that has nothing to do with the actual content of it. George Lucas has made some good SCI-FI movies, not musicals. When it comes to musicals, you don't try to compete with Meryl Streep and Stephen Sondheim. They will murder you in stereo. Seriously, you just can't play in other people's yards.

And why would people who watched into the woods hate strange magic? it had nothing to do with that movie..And if George Lucas decides to make a musical for the first time or whatever don't expect it to be the best because you can't be a pro in only a short period of time, you need to practice and practice.. like if a baby is born, it doesn't walk right away, it learns and sometimes fall... and into the woods and strange magic are both great movies for me...
It's not a matter of the public hating "Strange Music". Box office success is determined by how people choose their money. Most people can't afford to see a movie every week, so if someone who likes musicals is given a choice between Meryl Streep in an award-winning musical and George Lucas throwing poop at a wall, they're going to spend their hard-earned funds on "Into the Woods". Someone in LucasFilms' marketing dept made a gross error.

The only problem with the movie to me was that we never got a exclamation on how much time was passed from the wedding til Marianne is in her "tough girl" reformation. I've heard people complain that its a pretty girl turn badass in the next scene kind of thing. And thats true but not 100%, and example is when Marianne swings Roland's sword in the beginning of the movie horribly to the next time she swings a sword blindfolded with ease. It takes practice for that but there isnt any time skip explanation, or anyone saying this was normal behavior before Roland and she was just faking with her strength for Roland playing the helpless fairy princess act. The whole movie takes in spring and theres three events the wedding, the spring ball, and the harvest festival, obviously these things take time to host and plan unless this is somehow tied to the my little pony universe where its legit canon to have 3 to 4 major events back to back day to day. But besides that and that one single time Marianne is singing to psych herself up to go in the forest to save Dawn is the only things that bug me about the movie, well that and Roland's dumb face but hey he's the cheating narcissistic dumbass so he gits a pass for movie sake.
