I love this so much because, similar to Shrek, the 'Beauty and the Beast' ending didn't end with anyone being 'pretty'. Maryanne loved Bog the way he is, he IS beautiful to her. He doesn't need to change. She loves him. So it's awesome that no one changed. Really reminded me of "But I"m supposed to be beautiful!" "You are." Only it's said without words. Never even implied. The Audience just has this pre-conceived notion from hundreds of movies before.
I believe it surpassed Disney's Beauty and the Beast for the simple face that the Bog King stayed the Bog King. He was just hurt and angry and lashing out.
Disney would've had him change or transform into some fairy guy, so his outer appearance reflected his inner appearance (though I personally think Bog is cute and handsome as he is). They kept Bog as Bog, and that speaks volumes more then Beauty and the Beast does for me. That's just my personal opinion on it all.
+Amelia Gol (D.) This is actually a Disney movie believe it or not. It might not have the Disney log before the movie, but it's a LucasFilm movie (which was owned by Disney long before they made this movie). So, in esence, Disney decided to kep him as Bog just as Lucas did.
What I loved about this movie is how it surprised me, I mean I'm as shallow as the next 16 year old and when I saw that the beautiful princess and the "ugly" king had a connection I thought he'd like have some mysterious curse that would lift and leave him conventionally hot. And that's not what happened. Nobody changed their appearances. I LOVE THAT.

Probably the best movie I've seen in a while. The songs, the characters and the concept. The idea of the beautiful heroine and the 'ugly' villain. I have never been so in love with a movie.

I'm with you there. It's like beauty and the beast all over again. Although I couldn't handle that kind of romance when I was younger but now I can. It's just when watching the movie my brain felt like it was going to explode, in a good way.
We need more like this movie we're the hero and villain fell in love rather than the villain getting killed or imprisoned

I love the part when she took his stick and pretended it was a guitar and started singing I love that part of the ending :)

I know I'm super late to be commenting, but can you imagine what the ending would be like if the first song never happened?
Like, Bog and MaryAnn just awkwardly parted ways for the day, and everyone went back to normal.
Its obvious that MaryAnn would come back to Bog's part of the forest to visit, and maybe vise versa.
We'd see this slow, cute, awkward romance budding at their own pace. They go on dates and MaryAnn would show him the great parts of her side of the forest, they'd go on double dates and hang out with her sister and elfdude. Only THEN they would eventually kiss and everything that follows after that, which is MaryAnnQueen and BogKing ruling the entirety of the forest.
The citizens saw it coming because those two were damn near inseparable when they went for walks around town, and when it's finally official, Bam. Loud cheering, a festival, and who knows what else would take place.
I'm not saying I dont like the actual ending (I love it somuch) I'm just saying that even if everyone else left them alone, they'd still get together because they really do love each other. It'd take time, but that would make it all the more sweeter.

They really added interesting details like the type of wing the characters had, Marianne is a Blue morpho (commonly called royal blue butterfly), her sister Dawn is a Monarch butterflyI guess, there is a bit os pink there...
I love this movie. I love the fact that even though the bog king was considered the villain Marian was as much if not more of a badass

If you think about how Maryanne and Bog became their better versions due to heart break it makes me think of when a teenager breaks up with their ex and goes all sad and broody and it makes me love them both even more.

When I first saw this movie I was about 12 or 13 and I could tell that Marianne was gonna find a guy by the end of the movie, but I sat around waiting for the handsome charismatic character to show up cause that was what I was used to. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised ☺️
I haven’t seen this movie in a while but a few years back I would watch this continuously, like to the point where I knew every line of the movie haha
This movie was incredible! But not without it's flaws. If the film was more polished, some of the characters were fixed (aka the Imp), and they made an original composition next to the jukebox musical; I say this film would be more awesome.

i seriously fell for this track... the only thing i hated in the movie is the kaleidoscope....
Yeah...I would've replaced that entire kaleidoscope scene with them either a flash-forward to an eloping (fitting the rebel theme) or wedding scene (would be pretty funny to explore a bog-wedding v. fairy-wedding). They could even keep the singing, since this track is pretty fun.

Agreed. The kaleidoscope was such an out of place, sorta "wtf?" moment for the finale. It would have made way more sense to put it in "Love is Strange" if they had to use it at all.

This was such a good movie. A wonderful take on a Shakespearean classic. Of course, that made it pretty predictable, but the journey, the music, and the characters were still good.
It's NOT predictable if you've never READ that story, which I never did (not counting Wikipedia).
