I don't understand why people hate this movie. I know it's opinions, but, why is it despised the way it is?
The animating? It was pretty well done
The Characters? They were pretty relatable. (I spiritually relate to Dawn)
The dialoge? Pretty well done
The covers? Well voiced and directed
What is it that makes this movie so terrible? I'm starting to think a few people didn't enjoy the movie, and everyone else just followed along to fit in. I don't believe the movie's a "masterpeice"; but I really enjoyed it and the message. Especially in the society we live in today, this message was well needed. This movie doesn't deserve the hate it gets.
Someone please respond and awnser. Why is the movie so bad?
As much as I enjoy the movie, for me the pacing was the biggest issue, followed by one or two character moments and inconsistencies (mostly pertaining to the Love Potion, which is... problematic in its own right as a plot device, but it does tie in to Midsummer Night's Dream like it's supposed to as an adaptation, so... yeah).
As to why other people dislike it... I think some of it has to do with the advertising of the movie. The trailers were SUUUPER misleading on what this movie was supposed to be, which can automatically piss some people off. If you look up the original trailers, this looked like the shlockiest Epic/Ferngully adventure knockoff so trope-y and tired it's sickening. I actually never saw the trailer for it until AFTER I saw the movie - what convinced me to see it was that one clip of the 'Straight on For You' duet, which completely hooked me on it. It may be that people went to this movie looking for something to mock and cringe at, a Riff Movie if you will, and when they didn't get much of one of those, they got mad.
There's also some tonal issues, some minor inconsistencies that people like to nitpick. I think the main thing is that no one knew this was going to be a jukebox musical kind of movie, which, when they don't really know it IS a musical, can really throw people or turn them off a movie entirely. One good example of this was a fair number of people who went to see Burton's Sweeney Todd without knowing prior to the movie that it was (based off of) a musical - they thought it was a horror movie straight up. Heck, even when I went to see it as a kid, my whole group thought it was just a Burton style horror flick - two guys came out of it complaining like nobody's business on how they felt tricked and deceived into seeing a stupid musical (never mind the fact that it was probably the bloodiest musical ever filmed, aside from Repo! the Genetic Opera, but I digress).
Overall, this was a movie that aimed to push at the audience's expectations of what they went to see, and ultimately succeeded - even if a good chunk of said audience was more inclined to hate it than anything else.

I'm Probably Dying Alone, I have seen this movie, like you said it's not a masterpiece but it's still enjoyable, the songs characters, animation. Most usually complain about the character falling for the "villain" or some of the plot. It was fun to see though. I've come to a point where I don't trust critics, they are thinking on a completely different level from what people are expecting. If your a like, your a fan. If not your not. Hope this helped.
I love it, and my wife loves it, is a bit to "adult" for children as characters are not black and white as they are expected, especially the protagonists both have great journeys trough the movie, definetely it does not deserve the hate it gets, i was unaware even of the existence of the movie till it came along in HBO, then i went online and was shocked by all the hate
Yea no I love the film I think it's amazing me and my friend loved it so much and I dont understand the hate it gets. You may not think it's a masterpiece (neither do I) but I love it so so much. The characters, yes. You are my sister as you relate to dawn and I, Marriane. Me and my friend found ourselves reinacting the film a year or so ago as it's how we go. But yes I know some people hate on the film. Do I understand why? No. Cos when I first watched it I fell so in love with the film. 😂 Me also being a child but nearly teenager and understand the whole dialogue. The film storyline it itself, magic isn't believed by many people but some the reality parts of the film (pretty much: Someone cheating and then trying to get back into that relationship, sadness, and holding no trust in love because of one thing that happened.) So overall, it gets alot of hate, but is very enjoyable to me and my friends. Adults can also find enjoyment and maybe even. - sadly - some relation to the reality of the story.
Did anyone else notice that Roland was singing this to himself and not Marianne?
Kind of reminds me of Prince Charming from Shrek
Yeah, he also kind of reminds me of Hans of the Southern Isle. (not exactly in the beginning of the movie, but the moment he said *his lips centimeters from Anna's* "Oh Anna, if only there were someone out there who loved you. *evil smirk*" made me glad that he got socked in the face by Anna.

you mean that part when he sing "I'll take my hand"? actually it's "Oh, take my hand". yeah I misheard that part too and though it's "I'll take my hand" but when I bought the DVD with subs it's actually "Oh, take my hand".

They say it has too much singing, but it was designed to be a MUSICAL. If they look beyond their own superficial window, they will see it is a beautiful story where the beast finds love without having to change, the handsome jerkwad gets what he deserves, the sweet, pretty girl falls for her loyal best friend, and, in the ultimate plot twist, the main heroine falls for the "villian" who turns out to be the beast to her beauty. The main character is a strong, confident, powerful female lead, and the critics who say this movie was garbage need to look deeper and see the beauty here. Sorry for the long paragraph (and major spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen the movie). Rant over.

my daughter is 3 months old and the only way I can get her to calm down is to play this exact song over and over!!! I saw the movie when I was pregnant probably one of the first things she heard! I need to the CD to play at home and save my battery lol

I think the one flaw behind this movie was how fast Bog and Marianne's relationship went.
It was cute and worked but it worked at a pace that was far too fast. One minute she calls him a roach and the next they're twirling and singing because of the very thing they protected themselves from which was romance. You'd think being so guarded they wouldn't have jumped the gun so fast

If I had a song tied to a bad ex and found myself in a new relationship with an amazing person I don't think I'd sing with my new S.O. THAT song at a karaoke when there are so many other love songs out there.🤷
@@gameraider100 at the end of the movie, the bog king, tries to sing it but really isn't his type of music. So they sing a song they both feel is right.
7 years later and I'm now discovering this movie. I actually enjoyed it, can't believe the hate it gets. The soundtrack and animation is actually pretty good 🔥

I definitely think Sunny should have been held accountable for his actions for literally trying to love potion his crush instead of just getting her in the end, but otherwise this movie was really nice

I had no idea what to expect with this movie going into it, I'd never seen any trailers for it I simply watched it on my flight to London. I was so confused when they started singing covers xDD But I still found the movie very entertaining, give it a watch if you like the songs I say.

This movie is..... strange. I love it but i have no clue why. There's a weird charm about it.
I watched the movie once and fell in love with it. the music is amazing, and honestly I wouldn't have heard many of these songs if i hadnt watched the movie.
When I saw the trailer I was exited to see it but I guess I got board and honestly forgot about it until I saw an advertisement for it months later where the guy who created it talked about the plot. When I first saw trailers I thought the "pretty boy" was gonna convince the "punk princess" to be with him and it was gonna be the typical "adventure/romance" thing but man was I wrong and glad for it. When I heard that the princess falls for the "villain"? And he loves her back? I watched it that night and loved it ever since

Funny thing is I hated the movie when I first watched it.
The reason for that was probably because 1. I dont like romance or love in movies 2. I dont like musicals and it was very rich in songs.

While I don't see this movie as anything great, I'm of the mind that it's more forgettable than anything worth the amount of hate it gets. There's definitely far worse stuff out there that's aimed at girls, and boys, as well.

I really am not into animated fantasy movies. But this movie is an exemption. I was saying no to my classmates when they told me to watch this but good thing they forced me to watch it. I want to watch more movies like this. Great music! Great film! Totally enjoyed it.
P.S. I love the idea that the main character and main villain fell in love with each other. Such an ironic but romantic love story.
