    Thank you so much. With your demo I got my machine to sew again. My bobbin spring was not releasing once I release the bobbin after threading the bobbin.

      I'm glad you found the video. I made it for a viewer a couple years back who had this problem. The machine was not mine but borrowed from a neighbor. I see about 8K people have watched the video now, so it seems it is a common problem. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Happy sewing.

    It's a shame these newer machines are plastic. No rust but no long-lasting parts, either. Hunk of plastic with very short life span. Good observations on this Singer 4411, Andy!!

      Thank you! It is interesting to see how the machines changed from solid cast metal to metal framework with plastic covers to almost completely plastic. The first time I saw a cutaway picture of a machine where the main arm shaft was just "stuck" into the plastic back of the body I could not believe it. I was shown a new sewing machine, in the box, a couple of years ago and the "Total Shipping Weight" was 7.5lbs. Yikes! That included all the packaging. Some of the slant-needle SInger machines have that much weight in just the shafts. It's kind of you to leave a comment. Take Care.

    My singer 4423 also has a broken bobbin winder spindle. It actually has never worked. I husband finally wrapped clear tape (like Scotch tape) around it and then I was able to use the machine. Now it has broken all the way and I was able to get a winder spindle replacement but don't know how to replace. I'm guessing it's okay to try and fix it because if I am out, I'm just out. Since there is nothing between a plastic $100-$500 machine and a good machine that costs the big bucks that I don't have maybe I'm not out that much. I would like to finish my projects though.

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  4 роки тому

      Sorry, I don't have the machine here. It was a trade-in and I got rid of it. It looks like the spindle arm is held on by a circlip or spring clip that you remove with a small screwdriver and then push back on. $100 to $500 is a huge range. You could easily buy a couple of all-metal vintage Singer machines, like Regina; ua-cam.com/video/XvMTj5wVlJU/v-deo.html You could not break the bobbin winder if you wanted to.
      Or maybe Vicky, a Rocketeer model; ua-cam.com/video/dMEgNgbFqPI/v-deo.html
      If you want something like the 4411 them maybe a nice model 338 like Bonnie Jean, ua-cam.com/video/CaCzYswaey0/v-deo.html

      Sorry, I do not. This is the only video for the model. I borrowed the machine to make this video for a viewer. I have the Service Manual but it does not show any info for replacing the BW parts. I've heard from a few viewers that the plastic arm breaks and you remove the circlip (pointy washer that slides onto the post.) an replace the arm/spindle/tire with this part: www.sewingpartsonline.com/products/singer-bobbin-winder-k6a0555000 I have not done this but only passing along what others have said.

    Hi, not sure if you check these but my bobbin winder wheel is not spinning when the plastic wheel hits it. I don't see anything obviously wrong. Is there a tension adjustment for this?

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  Рік тому

      No tension adjustment that I know of. In the video, you see the spring on the end of the bracket past the spindle. That holds the tire against the wheel. Can you turn the spindle and tire with just your fingers? What I mean is the spindle frozen? (needs a drop of oil on the spindle busing) Maybe your tire is worn down. If you put the machine in bobbin winding mode (no bobbin) and run the machine can you nudge the BW bracket over and push the tire into the wheel? Does that make the tire/spindle turn? That's all I can suggest. I don't really work on these plastic machines, sorry.

  • @rochiebee3905

    Does the bobbin wire tire go on top of the inner wheel in the pulley (the wheel that disengages the pulley) or beside it

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  3 роки тому +1

      The tire sits horizontal and when the spindle is pushed towards the handwheel the tire contacts the back edge of the large pulley; the one the motor belt runs on. Watch @1:20 in the video when I push the spindle to the right and you'll see the tire come to stop against the large pulley on the edge below the belt. The tire should not touch the "inner wheel in the pulley" but is above it.

    Hi there! I'm having issues with this same sewing machine but it's actually the normal sewing function that is not working. I switched it to fill a bobbin and now even when I switch the bobbin piece over back to normal function it isn't moving the parts to sew, just the side wheel. If I hand crank it works but the pedal does nothing. Any help at all would be appreciated!

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  3 роки тому

      if the pedal does not turn the motor turning the belt turning the pulley but the handwheel turns the shaft and needle that seems like an electrical fault. I'm a little confused b/c you say when back to normal function just the side wheel moves but the needle bar doesn't, but then you say if you manually turn the wheel it works? If the motor is turning the handwheel but the shaft/needle does not turn the plastic part did not engage properly, or a plastic part has broken. Plastic, ugh... Sorry, not helping am I? 😢😞 Feel like posting a video on your channel for us to see what's going on? You can see a service manual here (free?) www.manualslib.com/manual/1220482/Singer-4423.html Or buy a professional printed paper copy here: www.ebay.com/itm/193814718288 If you post some videos let us know.

    I cannot remove the plastic bobbin from the bobbin spindle when I filled it. It has always been tight but now REALLY tight. I am afraid to force it anymore than I already have.

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  3 роки тому

      I've had "stuck" bobbins on other machines, not this model. In this model, the "retention spring" on the spindle really sticks out. The most I've seen on a machine. On other machines with a spring like that, I tried a couple of things that worked. I dropped a few drops of alcohol on the spindle and tried to get some between the spindle and the bobbin "tube". I pushed down on the bobbin (I know!) and tried to lift it a little, trying to get a little movement. I feel like the spindle and spring are dirty (or bent) and keeping too much pressure on the bobbin. I have also used sewing machine oil in this way, trying to lube the spring and loosen the bobbin by making it slippery. The thread may get ruined but that is better than breaking the spindle which is on a plastic arm. You don't need but a couple of drops of oil, and you may get oil down on the friction ring (tire) that you'll need to clean off afterward. I have also heated the area with a hairdryer. Be sure you have moved the bobbin/spindle to the left completely. I only had this machine for an hour to fix that problem in the video, but I don't think you can remove the arm cover with the bobbin in place, but I'd even consider removing the arm cover screws and using the cover to lift the bobbin off the spindle; at least you may be able to lift it from the underside with less change of breakage. It makes be wonder if you have odd sized bobbins, or a dirty spring in the spindle or why exactly the bobbin has always been stiff to remove.

    Any tips to get the top piece off? The white piece with the handle, I mean. Unscrewed the screws under the handle but it will not come off

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  Рік тому +1

      I just remember lifting the handle to the upright position and removing the 2 screws near each end of the handle. When the handle is down you do not see the screws. I don't remember any other screws needing to be removed or needing to slide the arm cover one way or the other, just lifting straight upwards.

    Hi Andy...my bobbin winder is not working. Could it be because it's not "catching" when I move it across? How do I fix that?

    • @andytubesewing1953
      @andytubesewing1953  4 роки тому +1

      Did you take the cover off? This type of modern machine has the plastic arm that can crack or break or the "A" spring that puts tension on the spindle arm can come off, a couple things like that. There can be lint/dirt blocking the movement down below also. Does the tire reach the back of the handwheel when you move the bobbin winder spindle to the right? Although an instruction manual is available for this model I have not been able to find a parts manual or Service Manual for it. The spring you could maybe find something that would work at the hardware store. Any cracked/broken plastic parts would need gluing or replacing.
      I have no idea about repair shops anymore and if they can find/fix the problem. There are big parts sellers online and one seems to have some parts. When you see them have BW parts that usually means the part is prone to breaking and so many people ask about it that it's worth their time/$$ to carry replacement parts like this: www.sewingpartsonline.com/bobbin-winder-singer-416772601.aspx?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIioSvz4HL6AIV7R-tBh3kbgCMEAQYASABEgKuj_D_BwE
      It also looks like they sell the BW parts separately too: www.sewingpartsonline.com/search.html?sort.relevance=desc&keywords=singer%204411&index=41 The arm and spring, etc. These kinds of parts tend to be on a handful of different models also.
      I'd take off the covers and poke around a little bit and see what it looks like. Maybe you will spot a broken/cracked piece in there. Good Luck.

      I had the machine for about 2 hours before selling it. I don't remember exactly. Remove the nose cover and look for a screw holding the arm cover on. Also, look under the handle and thread spool area for screws. Ther are usually two. I don't remember it being a hassle, just a hide and seek compared to the vintage machines I work on usually. Sorry, I can't be more helpful. Good Luck.

      The work in this video is all I did with this model. I don't really work on plastic machines. I do have the service manual but it does not even mention the handwheel parts, oddly enough. I could not find a parts diagram. I'm guessing something is out of alignment or blocking that white washer from being pushed into the handwheel to disengage the arm shaft and needle/bobbin. I'll give you a copy of the service manual if you like. It does have lots of service info including how to take those plastic covers off the machine so you could see what is going on with the parts and brush/blow out any debris or lint inside. Email andymanuals53@gmail.com and ask for the 4411 service manual and I'll have them reply with a pdf copy of it. That's all I have for you. Good luck.
