The mighty Led Zeppelin. Truly part of the trifecta of bands of my formative years. If the metal scene inspired me to pick up the sticks, and the progressive rock sceneawese me with its complexity, Zeppelin’s music and of course JohnBonham'sm style showed me how to Groove (with a capital G) in a rock context. The drive behind this track is monstrous and all that on a simpletwo-beatt idea that doesn’t let up for the entire track. Bonham’s kick was of course anda huge part of his style and this one is truly one of his masterpieces. Hence why I thought I would do it to see how far I have come since those years. I must admit quite well if I can say so. I wasn’t struggling but was having fun playing it. Back in the day did I ever struggle with that kick pattern. If you are looking for a transcription of the beat, you can find it at the link courtesy of the Online drummer: www.onlinedrummer.com/sheet-mu...
I also did it for a few students who wanted a kick challenge so there ya go guys, happy practicing. ;)
As usual, I hope to have done it justice all the while staying true to myone-takee philosophy which is how Zeppelin actually recorded it back in the day.
Please subscribe share and all that good stuff.
All the best,
Denis R
I love how there is not one tom hit in this song.
yep
OMG, finally someone else that notices what's NOT there as opposed to what is.
As is every Zeppelin song 😂

I really like the sound of your drums (especially the bass). I also really liked the ghost notes on the snare. Great job.👍🏼👍🏼
Until the entire world unanimously agrees that John Bonham was/is the greatest rock drummer of all time, I firmly assert that he is the most underrated rock drummer of all time. There will never be another drummer that creates grooves in rock music like he did. A true pioneer that was way ahead of his time, but left us way before his prime.
This deserves more likes
What do you mean "Underrated" he's not underrated at all there are tons of videos about him being one of the best, try Alex Van Halen or Ringo.
I think he was definitely innovative and created way more creative beats but down to raw skill there’s better people
Malak Kane is Van Halen a rock band? I thought they were metal but I don’t know shit about metal sooo...
neil peart is better imo
Bonzo from heaven : whats that sound?
*looks down*
Bonzo : *smiles*
Ahh shucks. I have sometimes though of that. He must be shuffed watching all of us trying to get his playing. ;) Cheers!
That snare is amazing

Clean cover!
I’m SO GLAD that the snare is the main drum in this. The other three intimidate me too much right now 😂
Thank you Yasmine. Give it time. They will warm up to you. ;) I teach online courses. Just hit me up at www.denisrichardjr.com if interested. Cheers!

Your Snare has an evil yet gorgeous snap to it Bro. Also, incredibly good job on ghosting! Piece of art!
Thank you sir. I do take care of my baby and tune her before every recording. It is truly the secret. Cheers! :)
Awesome as usual Denis!!
Thank you Christian. Always appreciated form you. Kudos on the Jacob's Ladder. I can play pretty much the whole Rush catalogue except jacob's ladder for one reason. When they come back after the first keyboard break, Gedd and Neil have this pattern WITHIN the 7/8 , 6/8 guitar riff. And to this day it's still screws with me. Arggg. :P So chapeau my friend. Cheers!
Denis Richard Jr thank you!! It was a lot of practice on Jacobs Ladder. So very much appreciated. You are a outstanding drummer. Cheers!
Bad ass man
Thanks Jose :)
Great sounding snare and really tight cover
Thanks a lot! :)
one shure beta 52a kick mic, one sm57 for snare two large diaphragm condensor mics one placed overhead about 40 to 45 inches and one behind the last floor tom facing the snare at equal distant and those two at 50% pan left and right and theres an even fatter drum sound excellent playing on this cover
Thanks! :)
great job!
Thank you! Cheers!
Excellent drumming 🤘🏿
Thanks a lot! Cheers!

Круто! 🤘 👍
Spasibo! :)
Good job
Thanks Vermont Prepper :)
Cool👍
Thanks ! :)
very cool! Are you mic-ing the kick and what kind of muffling inside? It looks like you bury the bass drum beater. Do you do this for all of your playing?...thanks
Thanks for the commments. I have very little muffling inside. I am big believer in letting the drums resonant as much as possible. If you are gonna pay good money for drums that resonate a lot, why muffle them? Makes no sense. I get livid when I see tape on a drum. Do you put tape on a guitar ?? So little muffling as possible (a blanket) and just tuning. I do bury for this one as that is the style needed. If it was jazz the drum would be open and i'd play foot down. I hope this helps. Cheers! :)
Good drummer player
Of all the covers I've seen of this song? This dude is the only one who gets the kick drum right.tripplets, and John Bonham was the master of them.dude was a rhythm machine.jonn and Tommy Aldridge
Ahh thanks! :) Aldridge is a solid player!!
Clear sound
Thank you Bintang :)
Good fucking job!! My goal in life is to get the kick drum down on this and my time of dying. My hats off 2 ya
Thanks Mark! You can do it. Just take it slow at first and then build up speed. It just take time. :)
👌
Thanks ! :)
❤GRACIAS AMIGO❤
Thank you for watching :)
Bonzo!!
Indeed!! :)
Are you playing a ghost note on the hi-hat as well as the snare? It's hard to tell at full speed, but it sounds like it.
Hello! Well if it sound like it then yes. Hence why it is a ghost note. :P Kidding aside, yes I am. Just like Bonham did. :) Cheers!
nice snare
Killer
Thanks Hank! :)
👍👍👍👍
👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks :) 👍👍👍👍👍
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
👍👍✌
how does this man's leg not fall off from all that bass drum 😂
I eat a big breakfast!! :P Thanks ofr the compliment!
Should I get a Ludwig Element evolution or Tama imperial star
Hi Music Man. Oh the which drum kit question... that is always a tough one because I believe drums are so personal. The sounds, sizes, etc. I love Tama kits. One of my dream kits is the Starclassic kits. I drool over them and the sounds they make. That being said I have a Ludwig supraphonic snare from the 70's that I would never sell even to save my life! It is THAT GOOD! It all depends of the style of music and what your looking to do with them. But kits today are so well made that even starter kits put pro kits from the 70's and 80's to shame they are so good. Like my therapist says. I can't make the decision for you but I can show you the way. Here's a video to help you out. Cheers! ua-cam.com/video/zbO1VW6juRw/v-deo.html
what model is the K crash on the right?
That would be a 17 thin dark crash my friend. I love it! :) Cheers!
sounds super accurate, thank you! :)
Been trying to learn this one lately. Pretty simple but I can't consistently keep up the footwork. Need a lot of practice.
What worked for me was this book Drummer's Cookbook . Some serious foot work and independance for the rock style. I recommend it :) www.melbay.com/Products/93301M/drummers-cookbook.aspx
@@DenisRichardJr Thanks for the tip!
where did you get the drum less track? I wanna do a cover as cool as urs
I played over the original one. I learned all the subtleties of Bonham's playing to match it to have no flaming. ;) Cheers !
How did you get around the copyright issue in the US? I did a cover that got taken down within seconds of uploading
Same here I wanna find out!
same here...didn't last but a few minutes!! It's a secret because I've asked everyone who has successfully posted Led Zepplin and no one will answer!!
Bobby Threet - BT DRUMMER same thing happened with me man 😥
Dude used to drum in Leo Sayer's band.
I only have you a thumbs up for the Frankenstrat pattern :)
leo who?? heheheh ;)
fucking badass song
How do u get yourself to move your foot that fast
Hot sauce :P Heel toe technique really especially for that double before the snare backbeat. Cheers :)
I could do this even faster then the song without heel toe. I love to do quick varaitions of the bass drum and make my own beats too. How i taught myselfe is all heel up bud slide your foot up the pedal and or move ur foot like ur stepping on a bug while you play. It makes it so that you dont tense up and stay loose and go as fast as u can.
Hi Denis, I sent you friend request on FB, I would like to see if you could help me, I need a few drum tracks for my music project! You sound GREAT! Mary
Where does the chin end and the neck begin?
Ahahaha I'm well fed :P And the camera adds as well. (Sarcasm) Cheers!
New subscriber. Your triplets are pretty tight. I'm struggling to keep mine tight while trying to at least come close to Bonham's power.
Thanks for the sub!
🙋♂️🤙🤙🤙🤙😁😁😁
Hihi thanks!
Is this song as fun to play as it is to watch?
Ahaha definitely :P Cheers!
