I think the 2024 Asus Vivobook S 14 has a lot going for it. It's got a beautiful and bright OLED display, 16GB of Fast RAM, Core Ultra 9 185H processor for a bump in performance, 1TB SSD and great battery life! The 1080p webcam and internal mics are clear. I think for the base price of $899.99 this laptop is a real gem!! Awesome review Andrew! 👍😁
I was thinking abut this laptop as well, Core Ultra 9 under 1K is impressive... seriously underrated channel by the way! So much information in the videos. Love the new intro song 😀
I'm confused with Asus' product line. Isn't Zenbook their flagship? This seems a better deal than the Zenbook 14 OLED 2024 no matter the iteration. I mean just look at that port selection on the left side, a much better location! Two fans over one. Same OLED screen. Same metal chassis. The tradeoffs, such as the lower frame rate and lower ram, are neglible to get the higher priced Zenbook. What will make me want to get that if I can get an Intel Ultra 9 in a sub 1k price point?
I have been using the Zenbook 14 OLED (UM3406HA) for the past week. That is the one with the Ryzen 7. It's a very nice laptop. Very premium feeling except that it's a HUGE fingerprint magnet. I just got this Vivobook that Andrew reviewed here and it seems to be less of a fingerprint magnet. Both the Zenbook and the Vivobook are about the same price. $749 vs $899 respectively. The Zenbook is unfortunately out-of-stock at Walmart.
I've had enough of ASUS when I purchased last 2018 their Vivo Book S14 (S14UN) - the hinge broke, the body was plastic. the screws holding the chassis has plastics only causing disintegration of the threads of the screw. NEVER going back to Asus. Acer is upping their build for aluminum bodies on Swift line up. Acer has now solid build nowadays for the price.
I returned the S15 and got this one. Will be testing Forza Horizon 4 with it later today. That game seems to crash on all Core Ultra + ARC graphics laptops including the now-returned Vivobook S 15.
OK video. Audio -- a little variable? Curious about the Vivobook S 14 with "Strick point" processor (I've just seen one review of that one so far). Interesting to see: * benchmark results vs. the intel i9 * battery results, * etc. The review I saw claimed that the SSD can not be replaced -- 😲. Can that be true?? It seems to optionally offer a 120 Hz 3k OLED. Probably not pen support?
my old Vivobook looked great but it dropped horizontally (maybe there was a quite strong hit by my hand on the side but drop minimal basically the base of laptop went off but laptop stayed and dropped 7 cm horizontally) the screen stopped working. If I compare that to the hits my acer aspire and 2 dells would be getting the screen to stop working is ludicrous. I loved it before that but it showed the build quality and the toughness of it.
Great review! Thank you for your hard work. Do you know if the battery would last longer with a Core Ultra 5 compared to the Core Ultra 9, all other things being equal?
Definitely 16GB of RAM alone without the possibility of upgrading is not the most ideal. Any editing application that requires more multitasking the notebook will feel. The ideal nowadays would be 24-32GB to have a longer device lifespan. It's difficult to find laptops with upgradeable RAM.
Great review as always Andrew! I still don't understand the reason behind soldering the WiFi card. I don't even support soldering RAM but at least there is a speed advantage when using soldered RAM. Soldering network card on the other hand makes no sense to me.
Great review Andrew. This laptop for $900 has grabbed my attention. BTW, have you hear much from laptop suppliers about their future support of the Dell developed Compression Attached Memory Module (CAMM) technology that was suppose to allow replaceable DRAM memory in compact laptops? I think one supplier (Lenovo?) has introudced it in a laptop. The CAMM tech will replace the old DIMM sockets/technology.
Nice reasonable priced pc. Camera and mics good. Display good. Port selection for this size laptop is good. Nice to see an sd cart slot. Speakers okay. Like to see these units use dark colored keys as opposed to the light silver keys on many laptops. Speakers were okay. Great quality review as always.
Hey man i have a question I heard rumors about zenbook series having problems with their usb c type chargers and using laptop while changing causes dmg to motherboard because of faulty capacitors or something Do you have any opinions on this?
I bought the Asus vivobook S16, its the 16" version with ultra 9 185H. I also bought a 4tb Samsung 990 pro ssd to upgrade it. How do you remove the screw cap that is in the back , to be able to open it up and install the new ssd drive ?
Boasting an OLED display, 14-inch screen, an Ultra 9 processor, and under $1000 - this laptop seems like a beast on paper! Even better specs than my 2022 Zenbook i5.
Hi. Nice review. And what about Asus Vivobook s14 oled AMD version, this year asus give us a choice, AMD or Intel, for Zenbooks and Vivobooks, as for me AMD version with fresh Ryzen 9 8945HS and 32Gb of RAM looks better, and i think battery life will be better and gaming. I'd like to see review on that device and comperasent this two.
Hey AMD. thanks for another great review! Are you able to get your hands on a Lenovo 13x gen 4 for a review? There’s only one unboxing/first impressions video out there - mine. I think you could do a much better, more detailed review that a lot would appreciate. Cheers
Would you reccomend this laptop or the Zenbook Q425MA for college? I'm not too sure which would be better for me, I want a laptop for basic productivity (web browsing, leisure, etc.) and I don't believe I will have to run any intensive tasks.
@@xoradato I actually chose neither haha, I chose the HP spectre 14 x360 because I was able to get mine on sale for 1050. It was worth the extra money for me because it had a higher resolution screen, 120 hz display, and a 360 degree hinge + a pen that allows me to use it as a tablet for notes and watching videos. At the same price range none of the Asus laptops had higher than a 1080p 60hz display so I splurged a little
can you review the ASUS Vivobook S 15.6 3k with the ultra 7? I'm really curious about the battery life and it seems like a crazy deal with a 3k oled screen and an ultra 7 for $750 yet I haven't seen a single video on one. I just hope they don't raise the price like they did with this laptop so I can actually get one lol
I still want a 2560-by-1600 IPS display over this 1920-by-1200 OLED. However, this is a smaller screen. It is not as big of a deal as the VivoBook Pro 15 OLED.
Please help😅 Never had an OLED but pwm light bulbs are bad for me. Will I be ok with Vivobook S 15 OLED (S5506)? It says flicker free but the more I read about OLED, more it sounds like it's always flickers (fake DC dimming etc). Also I'll never use it at max brightness, most of the time it will be indoors usage, mine 350nits AOC u27p2 is set to like 30% sometimes less
This but 16 inches with 32GB ram and they can have my money. The only thing that changes my mind is what this new Snapdragon Elite X processor looks like in terms of performance and support, and if there's an identical config with that instead of an intel or AMD processor.
why do most windows laptops have shoddy finish around the ports..I mean visible gaps around the slots..its like you dont have grout in your bathroom tiles..not seamless and flush like Macbooks..the new Surface Laptops now have flush ports similar to the Macbooks...maybe reviewers should point that out more often for companies to step up their finish quality.
I prefer to have full control over the keyboard backlight. Imagine using it in a dark room while watching a movie, then suddenly the keyboard goes dark. Having to fumble for the right button in the dark is frustrating!

Great review Andrew. Love how you cover so many points across all aspects.
Which one would you choose?
This or the ZenBook 14x?
Me too want to know that
Zenbook 14 is 100 $ cheaper and have better build. Basically Core ultra 7 is enough
Great video. What are your thoughts on the S15 Walmart is selling for 750 with 3k display, 16gb ram, 1tb and ultra 7? S5506
I would have to have hands on time with it to form an opinion.

Excellent, pro review!!
is there any other variant of this? cheaper processor, since shipping and tax is absurd.
and in the website it says that its 120hz ?
I am also having the same doubts. In website there are saying it is 120hz and only works when it is plugged in
Does it have a virtual numeric keypad built into the touchpad? Why does every reviewer skip this feature in their reviews????
Am I the only one who can’t stand that lots of laptop keyboard backlights don’t automatically shut off after several seconds? Drives me nuts.
