The key takeaway from these two laptops is that for their price point, you do get a lot of bang for your buck. Obviously there are better laptops out there but for what they offer, I won't quibble too much. The HP Envy 14 and 16 do have minor differences so as Andrew states, choose wisely to make sure you get the right one that will fit your needs. They both have beautiful OLED displays, clear webcams as well as internal mics, the 14" can be specked out at 32GB of soldered RAM at checkout while the 16" can only be specked out at 16GB of soldered RAM unfortunately. The Wifi card on the 14" variant has Wifi 7 while the 16" variant comes out of the box with Wifi 6E although you can switch it out if you choose. The speakers on the 16" sounds louder and fuller than the speakers on the 14" variant however. In conclusion, if I were to choose one over the other, the one I would select is the 14" variant due to the 32GB of RAM and Wifi 7 which is more future proof than on the 16" variant. Brilliant review Andrew!! 👍😁
Overall HP did a good job for Envy this year. One problem with HP is that they removed the remaining time from the battery display. Please check this with Envy's laptop. Thank you Andrew for the nice review.
Great review as alwyas. For Envy intel version of both 14 and 16 models, strangely, HP is offering both Core Ultra U series and H series and that's making things a bit confusing to pick the correct one. You probably should do another review of the 14" model with 125H or 155H .

Nice review, thank you! Now how this one compare to 14" Zenbook? The display definitely has more resolution but is the same quality? Convertibility is bonus as well. But what about overall quality?
if the AMD processor caps out at 16 GB like he claimed (which is surprising as the minimum is usually 32 at this point in time), and because the RAM is soldered, and because 32 GB isn't that much more expensive than 16 GB, IMO it is worth spending a little more to make sure the laptop lasts longer and runs better over that time period.

If that’s your only dealbreaker, you could add a USB or Bluetooth number pad to it, and just leave the Num Lock off so you can use the home/end and page up/down keys on it instead. I certainly wish they included the keys on the laptop and am in no way defending them, but that’s an alternative for people who absolutely need those keys and opens up your options a lot

Thank you again, Andrew. I bought an AMD Envy 15" 2in1 in 2022 based on your review and I am generally, very happy. I use a small monitor but would like higher resolution. I try to watch all of your reviews of similar products. I like your review of the AM 16" Imax you recently posted. I typically use the PC for business tasks but I often have 15 or more windows open, 2 or more Spread Sheets, Quickbooks and several browser windows as well
Why are they limiting RAM so much and soldering them to motherboard while proc manufacturer is declaring up to 96GB? I have x360 ryzen 7 from 2021 originally bought with 16GB, but that's not enough especially with shared RAM for graphics. Win 11 on idle takes up half, not to mention if you have additional programs on startup. Photoshop and illustrator would often run out of RAM and die. I've upgraded to 64GB and it runs great, usually I am around 50% of used RAM, on bigger loads 75% (with 2 adobe open). Downside of this laptop is LCD FHD with 300nits. Why all AMD laptops have only 16GB? Not only HP, but also Lenovo does the same thing... I was thinking it would be my choice, because of the screen, but I need 32...
I just got the HP Spectre 16 for drawing (it was on sale for less than the 16 inch at Best Buy with the same RAM configuration but with an RTX 4050 at 50 - 55 watts, which HP is not listing, violating Nvidia's OEM requirements to list TGP, and half the SSD space, from 2 TB to 1 TB, but at least it can be replaced). That is going to be my tablet tomorrow. Unfortunately, not only was the 14 inch more expensive, but it also lacks an HDMI port and doesn't have good GPU performance for what I plan to do on it (even a lower wattage RTX 4050 runs curcles arouns the Intel Arc iGPUs). I can take the hit in battery life in this case from the 14 to the 16. But compared to the XPS 14/16, it's no contest; the Spectres are better for pretty much everything apart from RAM (64 GB max on the XPS but 32 GB on the Spectres, both soldered) but its way too expensive on the XPS to get that much RAM and they have too many other issues like the keyboard, touch row, touchpad, and other QC issues, for far more than the Spectres or Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i (for the 16 inch XPS). The Envys and most Windows laptops would be even better if they didn't replace the right control key (which I use a lot) with the useless for me CoPilot key; if they just added it between the control and alt keys like Lenovo did, then that wouls be much more acceptable. (Still annoying though!) I hope Dell learns from the Envys and Spectres and completely redoes the XPS laptops, because they're straight up trash for the price this year compared to every other laptop.
@andrewmarcdavid You're welcome. As much as I love laptops with upgradable RAM and my Framework is still my main laptop and computer, I do still need something with a touch screen for Krita. (As of May 2024, there's no offical touch screen option on any Framework Laptop and I won't be getting an iPad because Krita is not on iPadOS and for other reasons like iPadOS in general.)
Update: I unfortunately got a refund because Best Buy told me that FedEx had damaged my package. I decided to get the Asus ROG Flow x13 (with 32 GB of RAM and the RTX 4070) because I do value a 2 in 1 but one with a smaller size and a dGPU.

I got that 2022 HP-Envy X360 with the I7-1260P. My battery usage time for light tasks is like 2 hours. For heavy tasks such as gaming its like 45-50 minutes. Keep in mind, that the battery worns out pretty quickly and i almost got 300 charching cycles in only 12 months. My remaining battery life is at 72%
@@ibrahimX95 in the "HP Support assistant" applikation you can test your battery, after that test you can press on "show extended informations" and there you see it.
I’ve had 2 hp envy x360’s in recent years, and on both the hinges have broken, a known manufacturing fault, on one the motherboard died twice, once in warranty, then recently again. So £900ish wasted. No product recall that I know of, beware of hp build quality
what is up with hp and there hinges? If i were to buy one would you say there is a good chance the hinge will break? Especially if as a student i am folding over laptop frequently so use the tablet mode.
I had the 14 inch HP Envy x360 for about a year before one of the hinges spontaneously broke. I took it out of my backpack one day and when I opened it up the hinge had broken and cracked my screen. Unfortunately a repair for the damage wasn't worth keeping the laptop, so I had to buy a completely new laptop that does not have the kind of hinges the HP laptops have. The design of the hinges is flawed and many other owners have complained of the same issue. Personally, I would not recommend this laptop because of that specific issue, but otherwise I loved my laptop and I am disappointed I had to replace it.
I have 2018 Envy x360 13. Used it as a chat screen, folded over, for 2 years while WFH, use it every day frequently, fold it to tent for movies.. Hinge is like day 1. Does not even wobble. I hve no idea if that means anything in 2024, but clearly HP CAN make a sturdy hinge. After 6 years, keyboard has started failing though, and it's glued. There are still parts to buy, but I'm thinking it' time to replace. Though, Zen 5 is coming soon.. Then again, Envy is a dead line now, so who knows if there will even be an equivalent device.
Well I am thinking i spend a lot to get the 2024 spectre or get another newer 2 in 1 that’s got that new snapdragon chip maybe xps line but yeah I am holding off for now
Can anyone please tell the difference between the 'HP Envy x360 2-in-1 Laptop 14-fc0501sa (9U642EA)' and the HP Envy x360 2-in-1 Laptop 14-fc0501na (9U641EA) as I cannot spot it from the specs
HP is horrible. i love my hp envy with ryzen 7 i bought in 2020, but the laptop will always stuck in black screen or has problems after windows updates. I have to do clean install every time the laptop updates.
Once upon a time Envy 13 x360 were wonderful laptops with AMD processors with good battery life and very thin screen bezels. With the switch to Intel chips, the increase in weight and size, it became rubbish. Yes, and 16GB of RAM in 2024 (
Terrible product. My HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 13-ay0001's USB-C port failed, and fixing it requires a $700 motherboard replacement-basically the price of a new laptop. HP is off my list for good.

My remaining battery life is at 72%
How do you know about battery life percentage?
@@ibrahimX95 in the "HP Support assistant" applikation you can test your battery, after that test you can press on "show extended informations" and there you see it.
Thanks sir. Great job
Most welcome
I’ve had 2 hp envy x360’s in recent years, and on both the hinges have broken, a known manufacturing fault, on one the motherboard died twice, once in warranty, then recently again. So £900ish wasted. No product recall that I know of, beware of hp build quality
These laptops have a major hinge problem mine broke and i hardly used it
Please clarify if you are using the 2024 model. Thanks.
Yo, answer the question. What year is your laptop from?
what is up with hp and there hinges?

Well I am thinking i spend a lot to get the 2024 spectre or get another newer 2 in 1 that’s got that new snapdragon chip maybe xps line but yeah I am holding off for now
What other laptop will y’all recommend then ?
Waiting to see the snapdragon versions of the two! It could be meaningless to buy these!
Thank you. Please Review Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Pro 360 and Book 3 Pro 360. More Samsung Galaxy Book 4 Pro 360 a lot. Please.

HP is horrible. i love my hp envy with ryzen 7 i bought in 2020, but the laptop will always stuck in black screen or has problems after windows updates. I have to do clean install every time the laptop updates.
Sound like a software problem for me…
@@linhtrantuan1655 more like graphic driver that has not been updated for ages. my surface has never gotten that kind of problems
Once upon a time Envy 13 x360 were wonderful laptops with AMD processors with good battery life and very thin screen bezels.
With the switch to Intel chips, the increase in weight and size, it became rubbish.

Terrible product. My HP ENVY x360 Laptop - 13-ay0001's USB-C port failed, and fixing it requires a $700 motherboard replacement-basically the price of a new laptop. HP is off my list for good.
