For the Alfine G, why not just undo the rear hinge to allow the slackened chain to be removed, rather then your method, not so great when muddy and mucky from off-road riding…
I think they designed the g line as an electric bike in mind. The entire market is gearing towards ebikes. The alfine model is just the fan service model for brompton fans.
Holy cow. Image how dirty your hands are with all the chain touching in the rear wheel removable to fix a flat. Probably less likely to have a flat with that tire. Edit: actually that front chainring chain guard. Are those really necessary? Is there chain dropping happening ?
IGHs generally are not thru axle supported. They need dropouts. But gearboxes like Pinion can work with thru axles because they are located at crank, not at wheels. But I don't think that would work with brommies.
What was the reason brompton did not use a belt drive on this model, and stupidly put a through axel on the front wheel. Its not going to get any awards for this muck up..
Agreed on the belt drive Maybe affects the fold? I always carry a torque wrench as well 😂 on my rides Looks like a cool bike Hopefully the shop in Scotland helped them with the design Bill Compton
"it is important that you do not squeeze your brake lever while your wheel is removed, this could cause a fault in your disc brakes, but we wont tell you how to fix that fault, figure it out"
Thanks for posting this video. Now I'm totally giving up the idea to buy the G Line and decide to stick with my C/P/T line.
I hope Brompton will launch T Line 20 with 20" wheel and with disc brakes.
Greetings from Croatia
We always carry torque wrenches whe out cycling........................
It's easier to carry a torque wrench than a spanner wrench.
Not the the torque wrenches, you probably need to carry the repair stand as well.
You can flip the bike upside down

Nice video Vinne
Also for e-bike would have preferred a mid-drive motor
I know bike Friday has Bosch mid-drive and belt

Great to see the Alfine hub being used. i have an 11 speed Alfine hub on my normal Brompton. They are very good..
both links in discription are for chain catcher. link for indexing not there
Man kind of wish the rear wheel was using a through axle too. Probably not possible I guess?

A Kinetics equipped with Kindernay 14sp uses through axle. But kindernay has since been shut down.
I am wondering how the torque anchoring of the Alfine internal gear hub is handled. Or is that not necessary for Alfine 8?
Same way as in other bikes using Alfine, with the antirotation washers. White and silver ones.

fixing that problem would be a 10-15 minute video. I'm sure its coming. the product isn't available yet.
You need a pad spreader. Easy !
