Tell us more about how you use it there? Why do you need a Brompton, don’t you have a massive truck and trailer to haul everything including huge bikes?

Good to see that Brompton has finally gone to 20 inch wheels. This will be much more stable and slightly less terrifying through potholes. They need to bring out a Ti version.
    Great vid as usual Hannah.

I hit a pothole the other morning and ended up with a pinch-puncture. Not far from home fortunately. Yes, the extra weight is a bit off putting.

Still in doubt about this one. But seriously that chain slack when you fold it, not sure if that is meant to be. Also it must not be easy for Brompton dealers to stock different parts again.
Mine just has 2 cm space above the saddle when under my desk I think, so no go.
Again a lovely unbiased review. Thx Brillantbikes, you guys are top!

A top video, as ever, and thanks. The weight. Omg!! Crazy heavy. You can see what is coming over the hill, a titanium version. I tested the Austin Cycles folder and it was like riding an e-bike. Being so light, it made a huge difference to the ride. The dead heavy feel of riding a steel tarmac leveller doesn’t do anything for me. The price of the titanium version might mean City types will be attracted to it more than true adventures.

To anyone saying its too heavy to carry.Even lighter ones get heavy after five minutes,I purchased two small luggage carriers from Blacks outdoor shop.£10 each, they unfold and one of these will fit in a backpack. When unfolded the brompton wheels sit just right in the trolley and you can easily secure with bungee cords.Drag your brompton anywhere easily.

I have a 12K which I reduced in weight to 11 kilos and I know to a certain extent what you say is true where the weight is concerned but I also own a P Line which is exactly 9 kilos.
I was deliberating between the T Line ( 7 kilos + ) and the P Line and opted for the latter as it was a question of costs.
I can honestly say that both T Line and P Line versions for me are not heavy as I do not have far to carry my P Line and when I tested the T Line version i found it really versatile to carry so I guess it is a question of each person’s strength where carrying weight is concerned.
Had I not owned the Black edition as well, I would have certainly got the T Line but one cannot have everything in life..!
It simply a pity Brompton do not buy back bikes as i would now sell both my bikes and get a 6 speed Ti version which did not exist when I tested the T Line version at a bike trade fair.
I any case, one cannot go wrong with a Brompton.

Given their attempts to make the 20" more off-road, it's a must especially when you've got low hanging derailleurs (less hanging on the 20" I would have thought...?). You may have to break out your tape measure again Hannah! 😉

From the East you are able to buy a Titanium Fork with a bracket for a Caliber and a disc wheel. I have thought about a change if I'm able to find a 16" wheel for a disc, as the back at any time is able to be blocked, so I don't need more braking ability at that end! Finn. Denmark

I'm really torn about this. On the one hand, it seems like an amazing new bike, able to do all those things I wish my Brompton could, but can't. On the other hand, it's a new bike that won't be able to do all the things that I'm glad my Brompton can, like fit in the overhead luggage shelf of the train, in my luggage for the plane, and be light enough to carry around the supermarket or throw in the shopping cart. It seems to have lost as many use cases as it has gained, maybe more. If you don't take your Brompton on the plane or train, or to the supermarket, then I guess you won't be missing out much. In that case, it seems like a gravel bike that fits inside your car or in your apartment better than a full sized gravel bike? I don't plan on trading in my C-line for this. If I were to trade in my C-line, it would be for a P-line probably.

Yeah, I think you hit the nail there. One thing I don't like about my P-Line electric is that the ride is quite twitchy, and the G line probably does solve that, but then it loses on all the other departments. Ultimately one buys a Brompton to be light and easy to carry and this goes against this.

    • @richmck007
      @richmck007 4 місяці тому +4

@@drewsmith7726 This is not a conventional Brompton. Let’s all understand this. It is a gravel folding bike without doubt. Weight is a factor here as one cannot just pick it up and carrying into a shop, on a train, plane or up and down stairs without ease as is the case with the P Line and the T Line.
So Brompton have opened up a new market for themselves which Is understandable.
Yes, the P line is what you want. Or even the T Line for lightweight capability.

But, I'm not sure I'm fond of the added heft and how the added size might make it less feasible for international touring because of airlines' size and weight restrictions?

My first and only Brompton is the original Electric, bolt blue I think, H6? (I'm 6'1"-6'2" or so) anyway I love it to bits, such an awesome bike. I never use my old bike anymore. But I've on occasion considered a 2nd bike for when I don't need the fold. Previously would''ve not got a Brompton. But this new 20" version means I may well just get a 2nd Brompton instead.

GCN have done a video on the 20 incher. Disc brakes is a good move by Brompton, I hit 55 kph down Conrod straight on Mount Panorama, by the time I brought the bike to a standstill the heat of the rims had exploded the tubolito inner tubes 😂. All fun and games 🎉 .

🤔👍thanks Hannah and team info I’ve tested the g line electric yesterday only on the London rds through heavy traffic size matters I’m sure your agree Hannah also weight is it a mountain bike no but for our rds a good option tyres I wouldn’t trust in the wet gear changing a bit awkward the disc brakes to sharp snatches the ride and position good gear ratio good electric unit powerful rollers good hydraulic brakes more maintenance waiting for your video on them tyres cost £60 score 7.9/10 the the t line gets 9/10 the p line gets 8.9/10 I prefer the original Brompton but g line a good option l like the t line but the cost so p line takes it without prejudice 🏋️‍♀️💴💴💴💴💪🫵🌎🎬

Hopefully Brompton will have certified the G-Line Electric to both the EN and UL electrical safety standards so it can be sold in the N. American e-bike market. The current C-Line Electric is not UL 2849 certified so cannot be sold in New York City which has lost sales in one of Brompton's biggest overseas markets

Great work as usual! When I received the e-mail I thought wow, this is interesting & sounds a great idea!
However, whilst I expected it to be pricey, so expected that, but the weight is a massive issue. I have a 1992 Scott MB which is lighter than that and isn't fun to ride compared to my newer 2012 MB which is way lighter and cheaper.
I suspect the weight will cause issues, as will the new hub & disk brakes once people start using them.
I'll stick to my CHPT3. It is a great innovation and look forward to seeing how it gets on once people have used them for over 6 months, but I wonder how many will want them at that price and weight, compared to other options? Thanks again

Looks very flashy dashy, chunky tires would be amazing on loose ground. I do like that you can sort most issues on the classics with a small handful of tools though and this one looks much more complicated for those of us who know nothing 😂. I couldn’t afford it but then I couldn’t afford a new Brompton of any type. I love my ancient, 3rd hand and rickety one though.

Thanks for the video, Hannah. I wonder if it would fit under the bottom shelf on GWR trains - my S6L has the longer seat post and just(!) about squeezes under, with the saddle pressing up under the edge of the shelf. I guess therefore this bike is aimed at a different user category, one who will transport it in the boot of their car for off-road adventures.

Holy crow! Finally! It'll be sold out forever, but yes! Interestingly and perhaps not surprisingly, it looks pretty much like many of the 20 inch Brompton style bikes already being made in south Asia - in fact, some of those might even be lighter (Al frame possibly); more high end features or options; and if you like simplicity, I think I might have even seen one with caliper brakes, not disc brakes.
