It always amazes me that manufacturers don't provide enough slack in the wiring harness and the mechanical speedo cable to allow it to be pulled out just a little bit more for large fingers/hands to reach in to release the locking tabs easily.

Cool, now I can switch to red lamps in the cluster...
i was careful and pulled straight out but i broke my clips on the gauge hood :(( mine was cracked anyways though so it’s ok. i got the cluster out no problem. have to change my whole ignition out so your videos are super helpful for me. i have to get a puller to get my steering wheel off though :(
You should be able to wiggle the steering wheel off without a puller 👍
WHAT are all the "blank" BULB Holes for ???
The empty sockets etc ... what happens if you FILL them to keep MOISTURE & DIRT out of the CLUSTER ?

Usually, the empty bulb holes are for extra options that were available in different countries or at different trim levels. I haven’t heard of dust being an issue, but it wouldn’t hurt to cover up the extra holes.

Hi, I have a 1990 Mazda MX5 and it doesn't show me the antifreeze temperature on the instrument panel, does anyone know what it could be due to?
At the back of the cylinder head, there is a sensor that sends the signal to the gauge. Part number TS198T “coolant temp sending switch”. It has a spade style connector on it.

They were in the car when it arrived.
From what I could tell, they were simple aftermarket toggle switches.

Any tips on how to get the hood off for the first time i’m struggling here
Remove the clam shell that goes over the steering column.
Take out the two screws at the bottom of the cluster hood.
Pull the cluster hood straight towards you. Try not to tilt it.
The clips break off very easily and have endured many years of heat and sun.

@@MiataMan I got it off about 5 minutes after i wrote the comment lol. i didn’t break any clips luckily and was able to replace all my lights
A Miata I’m looking at has a wobble or dance in the speedometer. It’ll go up and feels accurate in the center but it’s not stable. Do you possibly think that a cleaning/regressing of that port would be a solution or does it sound like a possible bigger problem?
Note: haven’t bought the Miata yet, I’m just researching to get an idea of what I’m getting into if I do.
It’s likely a bad speedo cable.
With that said, always start with the simplest fix and go from there.
