DIY Bat House

- In this video I am making a DIY 3 chamber bat house. Bats are one of natures best insect control and one bat can eat up to three thousand insects per night. This is an easy woodworking project that can be built in an afternoon. This beginner woodworking project would be great to have kids help assemble after the hard cuts have been made!
Here is a link to a set of free bat house plans that is even easier to make than the one I build in the video. There is also a lot of good information on bats here.

Well done! Clear instructions for a pretty easy build. I stapled some 1/8" plastic mesh on the back board to make it easier for the Bats to climb in the house.
once again, fantastic maker video!
Fantastic video! I greatly appreciate you sharing your design. We will be building several soon. Thanks
Thanks! Good luck with the build
Nice project!
I love my BAT HOUSE you made for me . thank you !!!!
Brilliant build and video! I will build one of these after watching your video. Bats are getting fewer (where I live) and I would make some of these for putting up around my garden. Thanks for sharing!
DEKEROS.COM they are great for around the garden!
Awesome project! Nice build and nice editing/filming too, keep it up.
Thank You! I will keep working at it!
Sweet
Ronna Keil Thanks!
Some information if you are thinking of making these (it's important to know what the bats need, or they won't take up residence in them.) Quick summary of the article:
1) Single chambered bat houses don't really work. (Do multiple inside chambers.)
2) The color you paint it should be based on your climate! There's a map at the link of the page to show what colors for what U.S. locations.
3) Caulk the seams if it's not already sealed up well. (I'm thinking if you glued it up at every joint, it's probably fine!)

Similar to the article I linked in the description. It must be true! Thanks
Oh, great! Sorry, I didn't see that link!
Beautiful, so is your work shop! Can I hire you, to build one for me out of cedar?
Nice video mate, 600 mosquitoes an hour 😯, keep up the great work 👍👍👍👍
Sumo's Projects thanks for checking it out! Anything that gets rid of mosquitoes is ok with me!
no need to stain the interior...
Very nice, simple project!
Eric Cooley thanks for watching!
Twisted Boards do you mind if I use your video as a project in my wood shop class?
Eric Cooley that would be awesome!
Twisted Boards thanks!
Just curious what people think about using cedar to make these? I know it would cost more, but I'm wondering if it would hold up longer and keep bugs from destroying the wood?
Use deck stain and pine is fine
For no finish cedar is sweeter
All the videos I see everyone uses cedar or pin. Dose it matter what wood you use?
I think cedar holds up to being outside better but if you plan to paint the outside, pine will save you some money
Nice but never paint the inside of the bathouse baeucause its harmfull for them with the chemicals of the coating
how do you mount it?
You can mount it to a pole 15 to 20 ft in the air
@@TwistedWorkshop77 I was referring to not having any screw holes in the bat house itself. A lot of people like to mount on the side of their house or garage.
No, I don't dislike the video. I dislike the bat house. They are too short to be that narrow. There isn't enough room for the Bats to move up and down to find the temperature they like at that point in the day. Sixteen-eighteen inches wide calls for the chamber to be at least 36" tall..... not counting the landing pad.
