can I use pressure treated wood for this job
Nice job. Any tips on mounting?
Thanks for this great video. Will this be attached to a tree or fence? How will it be attached? Do you apply any protectant to the finished project or leave it as is? Sorry about so many questions. And by the way, congrats on having more than 100 subscribers...keep growing the channel.
Thank you, appreciate the kind words! I love the feedback, gives me ideas on more information I can deliver next video. It will be attached to a post with 2 bolts/lag screws with washers. In hindsight I could have used a finish to protect the color and give it that extra protection, my guess/hope is though the cedar will fair well on its own.
@@KlassenWoodworks The cedar should be fine and age well. Thanks for the info. Keep up the good work.
Good job
Thank you! 🙂
@@KlassenWoodworks i did send you a email
Got it Ed! 👍
Great job!!!! How many bats do you think will sleep in that size house?? Also how do I attract the bats to the house??
Thank you! I am no expert but from what I've read, this style can house up to 50 bats. I'm not sure if there is anything you can do to help them but generally it just takes time for them to find and occupy it. Can take up to a year or 2!
Bats are attracted to many plants! Planting things like thyme, wormwood, marigolds, primrose, and basil are just a few things that will attract them. Like birds, they just take time to discover the house.
can you use pressure treated lumber ? or even paint the inside ?
I make and sell bat houses at our local farmers market. From my research it it is probably not a good idea to use PT as it may be toxic, especially to the young bats. I use texture 1-11 plywood since it is weather proof and use a medium grey stain, but I am going to change to cedar fence pickets for the weight and cost. Bat houses should be mounted a minimum of 10 ' hi and facing South. Depending on where you are located dictates how dark to make the stain because the bat like to be very warm. My design is almost identical to this video.
Plastic mesh is the worst material ever for inside the bat house. It wears with constant use and bats become entangled . Simply scratch the wooden surface for them to get a hold. Sorry, but this design is not for me
Will bats hibernate in that in Michigan winter
Very good question. I don't know bats too well, but I do know they are very sensitive to temperature. They don't like big fluctuations in temp. I am just east of Michigan across the water, snow 1 day and 50-60 the next. I've read Generally above 32 degrees they'll hibernate, below that they'll move to a different environment.
Too big/large inside, wasps and snakes will damage this
Good to know, thanks!
Get rid of the music and get closer to the microphone.
Religious garbage for the intro, aaaand I'm out.
I'm sorry you feel that way. Its unfortunate that even though we don't see eye to eye in our beliefs that you couldn't skip ahead 10 seconds to watch what you came here to see. Wish you all the best! 🙂
@@KlassenWoodworks It's the principle of it for me personally is all. Same reason I wouldn't watch a TV program that starts off by pushing religion or politics in it's intro.
@@KlassenWoodworks let it be mate, do what you do And belive in anythink you want. You Did great job with that bat house😁
@@petrschejbal8756 Thank you, appreciate you stopping by!
@@KlassenWoodworks We came to see a bat house build. It's unfortunate you couldn't have resisted forcing religious stuff into a bat house build, despite our differences. And then turning it on us as the ones who complain.
