I think Roboute coming back as the first returning Primarch was the best thing for the Imperium because above anything what the Imperium needs is reformation and Guilliman is the very definition of reformation
All the Primarchs have their strengths and weaknesses and this was by design. But of the Primarchs, only a handful where truly made with Empire building in mind, but only 1 with the unique set to organize it on such a scale. Dorn was a fortress builder. He would have made an Empire of small forts that could withstand any enemy, but forget about the population in the process. Perturabo was a master of logistics and construction. He knew how to obtain the most resources of any area and bring hem to bear in the most efficient manner, but he saw everything as numbers, they where either good or bad, but never individuals. Fulgrim was a cultural and technological master. Everywhere he went, he develop science and culture and left everywhere he left more enlightened and cultured than he found it, but he saw only what he created, not who created it. Lorgar could rouse a population, extoling them to give their best to whatever endeavor he wished. By his fervent arousal did great societies rise and prosper. But they fed into the propaganda and forgot about the individual. Horus Lupercal was the definition of Charisma and accessibility, the most well known and easiest to meet and learn of the Primarchs. He met with all he could and helped all in endeavors large and small. His personality was indeed larger than life, but he was singular. None of his children could match him or even tried and so Horus created the largest Empire of Humanity outside of the Imperium. But as Horus fell, so did his Empire, for there was no one who could take Horus's place and so his coalition died with him. But then, there was Roboute Guilliman. Not as charismatic as his brothers, not as capable in logistics or construction as his brothers, not as ferocious or skilled, but he could learn and he could change. Guilliman applied his greatest strength to everything he saw. Organization, logic and adaptability and by this he created an enduring legacy that even outlived him (so to speak). He saw that everything had to be build from the ground up to support a great purpose and worked tirelessly to show that each and everyone mattered in their own way. He optimized all he saw, from agriculture, land distribution, logistics, bureaucracy, manufacturing and more. He saw what worked and wanted to make it always better. He didn't have the technological genius of his brothers or the construction capability, but he could ensure that those who did rose to positions of power, where they could use those gifts to help all. And so the foresight of Guilliman endures, because the society he built ensures that those who can are allowed to go where they can do the most and those who can't or won't are repurposed to better serve the rest or otherwise be eliminated. Guilliman wastes no resource and Human intellect is the greatest resource available to mankind, always was, always will be.
@@Kino_pup true, but to build an Empire, especially one that lasts beyond the first directing individual, it takes the foresight to build a system that allows for its self perpetuation. Of this maybe only Lorgar was Guillimans equal, but while Guilliman did this through efficiency and good governance, Lorgar did so through faith and belief. The difference is that Guillimans system allows for change and self actualization, while Lorgars is limited to the written and requires unthinking obedience, though it never stops. As for grit and physical ability, this requires a population that is willing to put the work and endure the sacrifice, and Guillimans societies take this well into account.
I love the Ultramar system, if there was one place in 40k worth living in its there. I will take Space Rome cities over hive City’s any day. Cadia was my first pick originally, but well you know....
@@SigRho1429 yeah but you know they're a ticking time bomb, sooner or later someone gets bored, gets too kinky, then hipptity hopping Slanesh comes a knocking.
I’m glad Games Workshop have put a good bit of work into making the Ultramarines and Roboute Guilliman interesting. His return has made me like the chapter a lot more.
That's interesting; it had the opposite effect on me. I much preferred the 40k setting without any loyalist Primarchs active in it. Since his return, I've started adjusting my forces to fit a post-Calth heresy-era force, and started building a Word Bearers force to oppose them. I much preferred things when the Primarchs were things of legend; the only reason I bought the Forge World Guilliman sculpt was to paint it as a statue for table terrain. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
"I Cato Sicarius approved of this video, but as my glorious self would've preferred a video dedicated to my glorious career as the best ultramarine of ultramarrrr" ~ Cato Sicarius before he got powerfist punched by Calgar.
While I count myself among the sons of The Lion, if there were ever a Primarch worth meeting, it's Roboute Guilliman. We joke and jab him and his boys in blue, but their importance to the setting, and what they represent, cannot be overstated. Thank you for this most excellent exposè Sir Balders!
The Realm of Ultramar is in a unique position within the Imperium of mankind. It is a home world to a Primarch, a realm of five hundred worlds, and the homes of the XIII Legion the Ultramarines. There are many fiefdoms within the Imperium of Mankind governed by other Space Marines Chapters, but the Realm of Ultramar stands strong because of the Ultramarines that govern them since the Glorious Great Crusade, to the Horus Heresy, to the thousands of wars fought against the enemies of mankind, to the Tyranids invasions, and to the reawakening of their Primarch. The Realm of Ultramar is absolutely vital for the stability of the Imperium.
Ultramar and King Conor are as responsible, if not more. for who Robute Guilliman is as is the Emperor. The Emperor gave him strength and intelligence, they gave him his core values.
It was the Emperor who gave the 13th Primarch his nature as a soldier and statesman. It was Konor and Ultramar that nurtured him into the role, and made the Avenging Son better at it than even the Master of Mankind could ever dream.
There's only one quote that can define ultramar "its not about how hard you cam hit, its about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward."- Rocky Balboa
While GW has overhyped in the past, their more recent entries in lore have been fine in my opinion. More importantly, 40K just wouldn't work without the Ultramarines. All the Grim Darkness in the Universe isn't actually Dark...unless you have a Light to contrast it with.
"It was beautiful once. And it will be once more." -rogal to vulkan upon their meeting on terra Guilliman was the closest to have built the ideal empire to the emperor's vision.. Many think that it should've been a different primarch who should have returned but I think it couldn't be anyone else.. Who else was more equipped to rebuild a broken empire than guilliman?.. Rogal maybe but he broke mentally, going after suicidal vendetta after vendetta hunting traitor marines with such single-minded zeal that he ignored everything else whereas guilliman immediately set to work to rebuild after the horus heresy.. But I hope that another brother will return.. Guilliman can't and shouldn't do this alone.. Either the lion or dorn should come back..
@CreedOfHeresy i honestly want corax to return.. He's one of my preferred primarchs after vulkan and the khan.. But I think that corax similar to dorn has given in to hatred for the traitors so much to the point that he thinks of nothing else.. He's still currently hunting lorgar on his own in the warp.. He's grown far more powerful, yes, but his focus is too linear too restricted to revenge I think.. The reason why I think it should be the lion or dorn is coz they're experienced in empire building and leading maybe not to the extent of guilliman but they'll definitely be of great help to him.. As for the trouble guilliman gave dorn, it was dorn who appointed guilliman to be imperial regent though it was coz so dorn could go hunt down the traitors.. Corax is undoubtedly an excellent choice for strategic and tactical reasons but corax was always a liberator and not an empire builder but I do like the idea of him coming back..
@CreedOfHeresy While both Corax and Lionel are very distrusting of the world around them, Corax understands that Gulliman is honest in his intentions and there is no reason to hide anything from him. But Lionel keeps hiding secrets like its something special and he thinks it's something to be proud of. Gulliman would never try to lecture Corax on how he should do his stuff. But the first time Lionel landed on Ultramar and he almost messed thing up because he wanted to do thing his way. Corax or Khan would be the best partner to Gulliman because both of them are used trickery and see through it but won't be addicted to it. They can watch for Gulliman in the blindspot without overstepping their expertise
@@minhducnguyen674 corax is a tortured soul.. I see him becoming similar to kurze if he doesn't temper his thirst for vengeance.. Even though he hunts lorgar, the one he should go after is alpharius.. He was the one who masterminded the corruption of the geneseed stock of the raven guard during corax's attempt to restock his legion after the dropsite massacre using the emperor's research.. But the problem with that is alpharius is dead, killed by dorn.. How would he react when he learns of that fact?.. But I do hope that he comes back.. The raven lord was always the deliverer of the common folk of the imperium.. He's like vulkan in that sense except vulkan shows his empathy in the open while corax does so indirectly, from the shadows as it will..
@@lavatun Konrad however had next to no friends. Gulliman and Corax worked quite close together. I think the most interesting part is at the beginning of the Corax novel, Gulliman realized that Corax had trouble expressing his emotions because he spent his life behind iron bars. Clearly he must have been close friends to make that observation. Almost all primarch who turned crazy has no close friends or the one that can help them weren't at the present. Had Khan been at Prospero, Magnus could have been saved. Perturabo lost his humanity when his sister died. Maybe Gulliman will be able to help Corax with his mental state. After all, Gulliman was one of the first primarch to realize that the emperor treat them like tool and he does care about what going on in others primarch heads knowing they are human just like him. Clearly Gulliman understand that human will turn crazy if they lose purpose in life. He sat out to serve humanity so it doesn't matter whether the emperor is there or not, as long as there is hope, he will keep going. Others primarch wasn't the same after the lost of the emperor. But Gulliman was still trying. Maybe he could show them the new purpose. For the whole life, both Dorn, Corax and Russ was doing everything for the emperor. No wonder they turned crazy after their father's death.
@@minhducnguyen674 guilliman was the most stoic of all the primarchs.. He had his moments of fiery rage, yes, like the time he almost came to blows with lion when he bombed a city in an effort to flush out kurze.. He gets angry for good reasons most often at the loss of innocents just like vulkan though his rage at the deaths of civilian life pales in comparison to vulkan's it is indeed there.. The emperor does see the primarchs as his sons, some more favored than others but he didn't let his perception of them as his sons cloud the fact that they were created for the purpose of conquest in an effort to unite humanity.. He was just a terrible father as some ordinary humans are, a great leader and protector of humanity but not the most doting of father figures..
Tbh lets be honest, Ultramar IS the standard, idealized Imperial culture that the Emperor would want for most of his Imperium. So technicallt speaking it is the de-facto cultural basis for much of the Imperium even if most worlds do not reach these expectations. Ultramar is space rome after all.
It is a crime. This entry only has 107,000 views. I loved every minute of it. The muscial score used. The tone of your words are god tier level of storytelling. Bravo Baldermort. Bravo!
Know No Fear is easily my favourite Horus Heresy novel, with Unremembered Empire coming a close second. Although I'm enjoying the Siege of Terra series immensely.
Glad you brought that up, such an easily overlooked thing is that a ton of the Space Marine chapters owe their lineage to the Ultrmarines. The gene seed tithe from the Ultramarine chapter that is then used to make new chapters is easily one of its greatest contributions. As well as the average worth to the imperium each citizen can be. Educated and industrious or at least far more then the average 40k citizen.
I wouldn’t say the only nice place, the Imperium is vast and many worlds are actually decent to live in But it is the the best cohesive realm within the Imperium able to stand against time itself Its as if Ultramar was stuck in a stasis field while the Imperium slowly receded.
I truly do not understand how you only have 82k subs.... even if someone werent a 40k fan your voice and story telling is amazing enough to just sit and relax to... keep up the great work, i always look forward to your new videos

Crying in the club right now on what could’ve been. My favorite chapter always were the ultramarines, because they truly had something great to fight for. Not something that could’ve been, but something that actually exists. Ultramar and it’s people are something truly worth defending proudly.

Whoah, 48 minutes?? Holy cow, I was expecting a brief codex/old lore entry to cap off the week! What a fantastic Friday surprise! You spoil us, Sir Baldermort. For the Emperor, and the Avenging Son!
Thank you for lending much needed gravity to the tragedy of Ultramar's, and Roboute's, potential before the Heresy. Roboute gets buried in jokes and loathing. 'Tis good to hear about the ideals, "the dream".
Alas, GW paints a target on them. And it can be so obnoxious that it elicits anger in many. But the ultras are great. No matter how kick fun is picked at them. It’s the price of being the poster army. Sigh.

Lots of different styles for the different needs. Many detest my offerings. As long as you like them its all that's important. :) Thank you brother. :)
Ladies and Gentlemen will you please rise and remove your hats for Ultramar's national anthem: "Yo listen up, here's the story about a little guy that lives in a blue world And all day and all night , And everything he sees is just blue, Like him, inside and outside, Blue his house with a blue little window, And a blue Corvette, And everything is blue for him, And himself and everybody around, 'Cause he ain't got nobody to listen - I'm blue, da ba dee da ba daa" I've put way too much effort in this comment for the joke's quality. Pls help.
Your words, your tone and feeling of every line of duologue, is touched by the god emperor himself. Certain moments brought tears and pride to my eyes that someone can put such care into such lore. Please keep on your crusade.
My favourite chapter and legion! This was such a treat. Highlighting all the reasons I love them. SO MUCH. Thank you Baldermort and everyone involved, stellar job! :)

When roboute guilliman gets his due, I will be there, for I have no doubt that you sir may be one of the few humans alive that could actually peer into his mind and tell us his feelings on this hell, he has awoken to find, so no pressure baldermort!
I have a pretty big Imperial Army. I mainly field the UM, IG, and Knights. The back story for my IG is that they are made up of men who couldn't quite make the grade to UM. And the UM are mainly made up from the men Knightly houses that aren't in the direct line of succession for their house.
Brother Baldermort, I have played many a videogame, and heard many a professional narration, some good, most utterly generic, very few reach the lofty height of "inspiring". Have no doubt that what I about to say is the pure honest truth, had I the means i would choose no other narrator, I believe I speak for us all when I say thank you, for pulling us from our reality, and at the end of each day, providing a moment of peace, a moment when one may escape and listen to a story in all the child like joy and thrill. Be it the horror of the Tyranid, the deep sorrow of the fate awaiting a mutant child or the pure unadulterated fun of the Orks. So to you great story teller i raise my glass in gratitude! (with an apology for any mistakes due to borrowing a language that is not one's own)
many many thanks for being so kind. Never worry about language. it conveys ideas only. If that is achieved, then their job is done. I am certainly no grammar elitist. :) Have a second glass for me brother? And have a magnificent weekend. :)
Loved this video. It ties in well for me because I’m reading Dark Imperium for the first time, and I’m loving Roboute’s comparisons between the emperor’s original vision of imperial truth for humanity and what he returned to. At least we have him to remind us that there is more to existing than feeding a war machine, in this grim dark future.
HEROIC !!!!!!! You sir Baldermort speak HEROIC !!!! IF someone can speak for ultramar / Gulliman / ultramarine it is YOU !!!!! As for Roboute Guilliman welllllllllll ... VENI VICI VIDI !!!!!! I love it the way he bashes his way through all evil & odds . Hope he will bring more humanity to the empire ... that would be a game changer .. FOR THE BETTER !!!!
Now can GW pls expand on his resurrection. Give us a focus on the imperium and Ynnari - have Guilliman make decisions between accepting that he was resurrected by Eldar gods/power and have to settle an alliance or something leading to internal strife. Some progression here for us Xenos maybe?
Baldermort, you have crossed a Rubicon of your own, and returned as a Primaris lore master. All glory to the Faithful Servant!! This Episode IMHO shows your depth reach and subtle understanding of this universe we love! The Emperor Protects!
I genuinely don't know how you manage to create such amazing videos in a day or two. It's genuinely astounding. And I thank you for your hard work, I'm always excited when my screen lights up with a new Baldemort video!
*Ultramarines , the most honorable chapter , killers of the old and the young on the emperor's orders to punish one of his Primarch 'sons'.* (thanks for the lore, stories and fun! Stay safe Baldermort)
Dammit, Baldermort. You made me begin to like the Ultramarines and Ultramar. I LIKED making fun of Matt Ward’s Mary Sues, but they make a grim kind of sense now. Something has to exist worth losing. Something has to be more meaningful and more tragically charged than your average guardsmen meat grinder. And so it is Ultramar. A candle lit from an ember of the Emperor; a war machine powered by that same candle. Of course the Imperium needed someone who knew how to prepare and maintain a war machine of an expanding galactic scale. “Rowboat Girlyman” actually deserves some respect now. Funny how that comes about. You certainly have the wordsmithing and voice to tell these stories in a meaningful way. It makes me wonder if Roboute should have been Warmaster. It would have been a slower Crusade, yes, but a consolidated and powerful one that would have given the Primarchs more time to explore themselves and their legions, and for the Emperor to get to know them as well as work on the Webway project with greater peace and safety. So then, I wonder, what oversight on his part, or what machinations of Chaos did he foresee, that led the Emperor to choose Horus instead?
Hoooo Oo what a surprise as i open the window and see a 47 minutes length video of you on Ultramar ! So happy to jump on and watch it like a child a christmas day :) Thank you brother Baldermort for this beautyful entry i was waiting for... Courage and honor brother !
This video was highly glorious, and your narration is on another lever, my good sir. I hope that some day you dedicate a series of videos to Roboute, just like you did with Dorn.
You missed your calling as a teacher, my friend. You've captured adults who are into the same game as you, but the WAY you do it is incredible! ...okay granted I have no idea what you did to earn money before this, but the captivation, the instilling of awe and dread, you're more than good, bud, you're exceptional.
Terrible couple of weeks, but I log in and see a wealth of Baldermort to listen to and it compensates a little. Coming out strong in the new year, thanks for the hard work!
Guilliman is the most human of the primarchs for the simple fact that he unlike is brothers is true-life capable of anything and to be anything both a master of peace and a lord of War, we have seen him through every human emotion. We have seen him fail and succeed, he is truly human.
Dear Baldermort... Without you, I feel that I truly wouldn't know _where to even begin to_ understand the Warhammer 40k universe... May the Light of The Emperor forever illuminate and warm you....

@@bradsimpson8724 I wouldn't have 40k any other way.

Cawl: I have heard that you jave been having problems with your primarch. Let me... Robute him for you
Urg. Lol. :) :)
Help I lost a children’s card game and now I can’t find my way out of the Realm of Ultramar.
Blue is a very nice color.
That's rough buddy.
Oh no, what will you ever do now that you cannot access the shit hole that is the rest of the Imperium?
*laughs in dark angel
While GW has overhyped in the past, their more recent entries in lore have been fine in my opinion. More importantly, 40K just wouldn't work without the Ultramarines. All the Grim Darkness in the Universe isn't actually Dark...unless you have a Light to contrast it with.
It’s beautiful. The lord commander would surely be proud of this entry.
Glad you are enjoying it brother Clavi. :) :)
"It was beautiful once. And it will be once more." -rogal to vulkan upon their meeting on terra
Guilliman was the closest to have built the ideal empire to the emperor's vision..
Ultra marines are my favorite when it come to their treatment of humans right next to the salamanders

Ultramar: what you get when you dont let the Emperor destroy your culture and self respect

Me
Ultramar is one of the few places in 40k that wouldn't be so bad to live in.
The only nice place to live in the Imperium. Is also even more heavily defended now.
I wouldn’t say the only nice place, the Imperium is vast and many worlds are actually decent to live in
But it is the the best cohesive realm within the Imperium able to stand against time itself
Its as if Ultramar was stuck in a stasis field while the Imperium slowly receded.
I truly do not understand how you only have 82k subs.... even if someone werent a 40k fan your voice and story telling is amazing enough to just sit and relax to... keep up the great work, i always look forward to your new videos

Sigh.

@@Baldermort Doing my best. :) thanks
So happy to jump on and watch it like a child a christmas day :)
