Dear brothers and sisters - please be polite. If you do not like a faction, move on to the videos of your own faction. Coming on to a video to poke fun is fine, but to be brutal, rude or aggressive Its just not necessary. CAPS LOCK ON FOR ATTENTION, NOT SHOUTING. :) :) THIS IS ONLY LIGHT ENTERTAINMENT AND DOES CONTAIN SOME MINOR ERRORS THAT WILL BE RESOLVED IN THE FUTURE ENTRY 'TAU POST PSYCHIC AWAKENING!' I WOULD LIKE TO THANK EVERYONE WHO HAS HELPED UPDATE ME. Be chilled, or move on, please everyone. It is a hobby. Have Fun!!! :)
@@ottersirotten4290 people really REALLY dont like my baby blueberries. I think it has something to do with the "my 3x 10 model fire warrior units are in half range and theres a cadre fireblade so they all get an extra shot plus their target has all 5 markerlights so thats..... 93 shots, hitting on 3s, rerolling 1s, with 5 strength." and thats only about 250 points.
yeah I dont understand the irrational hate this faction gets even going as far as to insert irl politics into their reasoning. To me, theyre one of the coolest factions mostly due to their mechs/battlesuits.
The T’au are the closest to a “Standard “ Sci Fi Race of any of the big powers in 40k they don’t fit, they’re not supposed to fit. The faction’s severe case of Wrong Genre Savvy is the whole point.
They are like lizardmen in 40k They like everyone as long as they do good things. Wants to ally with everyone that also wants peace and cares about life. They are utterly incorruptible by Chaos, they only believe in the greater good and the development it brings. The Great plan. The Ethereals are just like the Slan, they just have a magical effect on everyone around them to make everyone work together for the betterment of all. Everyone just knows what to do when they are close to them so everything works as intended. Everything becomes harmonious and peaceful when not pushed into protecting themselves. They feel like they perfectly fit into 40k, they feel like they are actually the best weapon against Chaos. Because they are the only spieces that actively doesn't seek wars and conflict. They want to end it all for the greater good of all that live in the 40k universe! They are fantastic
Wouldn't surprise me if we get a piece of lore in the future that legit says that the Tau where the Old ones last created species. That they were designed to be the way they are. To be the cement that unites the mortal races as ONE core against Chaos and the evil races of 40k! That one of the last Old Ones last action was to find one last desperate plan to insure that the mortal races won't die out and disappear in the end of all wars. A plan to try and insure a peaceful future for all the lifeforms that the Old ones loved so much.
@@papanurgle8393 Your just jealous because Slaanesh was responsible for destroying the previous galaxy spanning, materium mastering human civilization. Boomer chaos god
I don't play the games I don't collect the figurines but I love the lore of warmhammer and your videos have probably become my favourite. Your videos have such passion and it makes me want to know more. Every day I wait for the next video, keep up the good work!
preferred answer of the firewarrior commander at the beginning: sigh "Gue'vesa, I would not call you that had the water caste not vouched for your and your peoples loyalty and I have no reason to doubt them or you. My problem is that this former imperium of yours asked you so many times for death and more death that it has warped your priorities. We firewarriors gladly accept the *risk* of injury or death if it serves the greater good, encountering it however is still a form of failure. You asked me to put the Gue'vesa in the front line so that they can demonstrate their loyalty by "dying for the greater good", in reality dying for a mere symbolic gesture. I would be amiss in my duties if I let you do that because a mountain of corpses does not serve the greater good, only the living do. So your men will stay in the back ranks until we can be assured that they have learned the value of their lives to us all. Is that understood?
@@Baldermort Hey, this isn't a competition who writes the "better" in lore dialog. Your passionate speech perfectly encapsulates the motives why a human would give everything to defend the ethereals new order and in fact inspired me to write up the tau's response to begin with. Both parts could be in there to complement each other and show the differing perspectives (ideas of devotion to the point of self sacrifice vs utilitarian views on life(notice the tau never even implied that human life has any personal value to him?)) PS: my favorite are actually the Tallarn desert raiders (do you have a video on them in planning? pretty pls?:) ) PPS: also I could never even come close to your outstanding voicework
DeHerg you are, of course, right. I always say it’s a team effort as I learn as much from the comments section as anyone learns from me. Probably more. :). You writing just clearly showed a much deeper, richer appreciation of the greater good than mine. Which is glorious, as you shared it. I now understand much much more. :). Tallarn are on the radar. Not soon, but there. If it’s not done by summer, at the latest, give me a hard nudge. We all know I am like a dog chasing cars. I get excited and forget things. Lol. Sorry. ;). P.s. you never know until you try. I only started this sort of thing for the first time in September 2019. Not that I need the competition, but you could give it a go. You never ever know. :).
I have just a couple of minor quibbles. This view precludes any outcome that is not "our own pointless deaths." Coming from a long line of soldiers and as a soldier myself, I have to say the idea is never "let us die to show our loyalty," but "let us demonstrate that we think it worth the risk," or at the very least "I'm not gonna die, I'm gonna make them die." We know death is a possibility and that someone's likely to die and it might be us. Buuuuuuuuuut. He's right. The Imperium's propaganda machine has been churning nonstop with reports of gelding and brainwashing. If it's just the T'au and the Vespid and Kroot, they'll just come back to free their enslaved brethren. They have to be shown that their corpse god has no power over these people anymore, that this is a T'au world. If there were no hope for victory, and no expectation of it working? Sure. Hold them in strategic reserve. But they intend to win and accept they may die, in addition to being capable. That's an ideal warrior. That, any Shas'o would want on their front line. And anyway may have a morale effect. Plus humans are better in melee, so alongside the Kroot, they can make a mess while the T'au take the longer shots. Many reasons to agree to let the Gue'vesa fight.
This is one of THE best overviews of Tau in brief, with so many subtleties identified. Well Done Chronicler! Also covering the shadow sides of the situation. There is more to the Tau than is seen, I'm certain.
Brilliant video. I love the contrast the Tau bring to 40k. The race that genuinely tries co-existence but still able to "sort-of" hold their own. Plus, I love the battlesuits that each faction can "bring to the table", the Tau just seem to have the best design for that in my opinion. I have a kill team of stealth suits and drones that I like to call, the Vit'nam Vengeance Corps.
Ciaphas Cain has the best description of the Tau. He’s always on guard and reads deeply into all their actions, and strangely enough that’s one of the reason why they trust him so readily. “The Greater Good” would have been better with more interactions between him and El’hassai.
The necrons are more like an aggressive old man who is really pissed off you moved into his old house even though there have been three seperate owners between him and you. As a result he has been slowly encroaching on your property, knocking down the fence on the property line, spraying your hedges and plants with herbicide when you aren't around, driving his vehicle across your property and your cat went missing last week. Oh also you keep getting hand written death threats mailed to your address and your pretty certain it's him.
I looked forward to this video, and I cheered with joy when I saw notification, as I saw or rather heard, your approach to the Tau are the same as mine. There is nothing more grimdark, than standing alone, being little and surrounded from nearly all sides by the horrors this uncary galaxy throws at you. But people complain they are not grimdark because the Tau don't go straight murderhobo killing billions on their way. And nowadays, I feel they are becoming Imperium 2.0, but I choosed Tau, particularly to avoid that. I also look forward to second part, great work Baldermort, I wish I give you big hug.
I know nobody likes the tau but they are my guilty pleasure. The naïveté of their approach sets up an interesting story arc when they fully encounter the immaterium. Great stuff as always
I like the lore of Humans joining the Tau simply because life is relatively better with them....indeed it is the War of ideas and lifestyles that the Tau provide humans in their empire, that could be most dangerious thing to upset the power that the Old Imperium's uses to control humanity...plus are the Tau on the 'Dark' side of the Imperium galactic Empire??? Because that would be a lot of desperate humans looking for salvation and allies...
Thing is the tau are naive while they are better in the short term their naivete toward the horrors of the galaxy will only lead to their own doom and the doom of all the humans who join them.
Isn't there lore about forced sterilization of gue'vasa? There's also a big chunk about the rigidity of the caste system, where its almost more of a nightmare than those found in India. Eugenics, mind control, subversion, totalitarianism... no, I've always argued that the Tau fit in just right in the GrimDarkness of the 41st millennium.
This is legit the best Tau reading ever produced. You make the Tau actually sound like living, breathing aliens - not bad racist Asian stereotypes. THANK YOU. BL Tau audiobooks are too cringe to listen to.
Hehe, yeah. Course mind you it was probably a bit of bombed attempt, I mean the Dawn of War voices and FireWarrior game VA made it much more distinct then an Asian caricature. But it is a fine line. The reader(forgot his name) does a nice job otherwise, but they should grab another narrator for others, i think it's just a question of having a range.
This video convinced me to become a patron. You manage to present the lore in such an approachable yet passionate way and your voice makes my (straight male) knees shaky. But above all it was the message at the end of this video that made me decide to put my money where my mouth is: an appeal to tolerance, understanding and unity. A message that seems to get lost all too often in these uncertain times. I guess nothing could have fit better to round out a video about the Tau.
H E R E S Y REEEEEEEE -This comment section, Personally I don't like the tau, however I love the nuance they represent. They are a mirror into humanities past, as well as their hope for themselves. Their advances solidifies and amplifies the imperiums stagnation. Even makes one understand Horus even more. To think of how humanity betrays the imperium in hope for a better life, is the base reasoning why Horus betrayed the emperor, because he knew (or believed depending on your point of view) that the emperor would dispose him and his sons one way or the other. Like the thunder warriors before them. So! Thank you so much for this amazing entry, as I've stated before my days are hectic, they're down right depressing actually but this hobby is a small candle of light in my everyday life and your videos amplifies that to a spotlight. (really bad explanation but hey, you get it).
Just realized as the Tau develop the equipment necessary for the Humans they absorbed to be better fitted to work with the Tau They likely will listen to any ideas the humans might have from adding additional equipment to designs better adapted for human convenience, and finally weapons that fit more comfortably with human hands and bodies. They would accidentally create a slight hint of what Mankind looked liked before the fall. What would happen if a faction of those humans separated from the Tau (lets assume by accident) and had to make due being isolated until they gained their numbers to expand out again. They have the technological base, the ability to create infrastructure and weapons, they are freed from Imperium Rule, they might have a couple tau with them that can help settle on a world or several to govern, work, and maintain equipment and government and society on some level but they are no longer under Greater Tau influence. These humans would thanks to influence from tau before they were separated and the few that remained with them would have been encouraged to better themselves, to innovate, and to think. I can only imagine how powerful such a faction could be if Given time to rebuilt and eventually expand. Not to mention thanks to tau influence originally they would be literally a beacon of light to human worlds they eventually come across providing aid and peaceful coexistence before being absorbed by the faction (A human faction might be more aggressive). From a battle perspective they would be better than average gaurdsmen.
One also needs to remember that they are also Human, not Tau; And are therefor HEAVILY susceptible to the taint of Chaos, leaving these supposed Gue'Vesa Independents doomed in the end.
Hmm. My girlfriend is a sworn Tau. Comes from growing up on Star Trek. Fascinating race and culture. I don't particularly trust them myself but as long as they stay within mutually agreed Tau Space, so be it. A case of "good fences make for good neighborhoods" but on the galactic scale.
@@Dadecorban Of course Super Smurf would agree with blueberries, but as mentioned Tau are treacherous space commies and even if we manage to over look their turning whole planets into traitors over time, we cannot over look their bumbling blueberry asses messing with heretical AI tech. Last thing galaxy needs is another AI war. Necrons are plenty enough on that front and its not like humanity does not have enough enemies already. Though if Tau can manage to keep them selfs fuck away from Imperial planets and take pressure off from Imperium so proper force can be built to remove one of the major treats like Dark Eldar, what should weaken the chaos gods in process and allow utilization of webway system and maybe even that way remove pressure from one on Terra that Emperor keeps closed.
Been hoping for Demuirg miniatures to be added to the Empire for a long time now. 17+ years later, still the same Vespid and Kroot models. Not even Gue'vesa units added. 😢
Amazing. Just got to work lol But hey...... This is the race that introduced me to Warhammer 40k. They will always hold that special place in my heart.
..... *whispers over the vox* Yes inquisitor they are here.... Hold for a minute? Yeah sure I could wait... Damn what is taking them too long? *meanwhile* *orbital ships raining extermanatus*
LOL!. Looking into a dealy thingy with a saler, but am not sure who is good and who is not. Everyone seems to go with Elemental. Thoughts? :) As always, thank you for all of your support and patience, brother Richard. :)
I had read a possible idea behind the Tau beginnings, this person thought the Tau could be necron origin. The necron spread across the Galaxy and could have tried a DNA Esq world building such as the old ones. They have a shorter ish lifespan, technologically bright, low psychic presence. It's probably silly but I like the idea.
I don't really care about the characters or the factions. I just know that i will enjoy your magnificent story told in masterful way and enjoy it for unfortunately as short as it lasts. I am not complaining about the video lengths but, it can never be long enough. Thank you for this great work once again. I hope you are enjoying yourself brother baldermort.
I like the Tau way better before the Psychic Awakening storyline. There should be at least one faction in the galaxy that isn't a complete nightmare. In fact, I liked all of 40K way better before old Papa Smurf got let out of his time out chair.
40k as a whole has just been getting "darker" because the fandom has some increasingly edgy undertones. It used to have a more Post-Acopalypse in Space vibe, now not so much.
After watching the End of 40k Video, and the horror that would be creating a new god of the warp even one of order, I can fully appreciate the 4th sphere Tau taking out their auxiliaries.
That said I also am an Old Tau fan and still like the days of full optimism but also ignorance, back when the Tau would send War Correspondents to the front lines.
This brings back memories!!! The last time I was able to play 40K was in 5th Ed and the local habit was triple riptides as your heavy support choice. I never bothered to pick up one as I had the XV-134 battlesuit that recently released so I just stuck to the Hammerhead and Broadsides for my heavies. As I was quitting the riptides got limited to one per army so I was able to pickup half a dozen that were knee jerk sold when that changed and they are now part of a series of dioramas including one very poorly assembled riptide becoming part of the base a battle casualty and enjoying the close personal attention from a Tyranid critter the same size and twice as stabby. I have rather recently been looking into the lore again and it is quite a shock from a few stories here and there being added over a decade to cadia blowing up, friendly necrons, papa smurf getting STDs from his new girlfriend and tau having a hindu god in the warp. I suppose the old adage holds true, nothing cures a drought like a good flood...
An excellent treatise and one where I don’t have to ask the clearly irked “this isn’t grimdark enough!” narrator “Ok, tell me on the doll where the bad Fire Warrior touched your”
Hey Baldermort! I loved your whole Tau playlist, I just wanted to say thank you for putting so much effort and love into all your videos! There really isnt much for Tau lore across YT, let alone cool stories like yours. But as a main Tau player, I really appreciate it ~ Keep up all the great work! ^_^

Love listening to your videos while I'm driving and working. You have a great voice and a warm style of speaking to the listener. I really appreciated the note you ended on, too. Well said!
Tbh, if I heard about the tau 5 years ago, I would have loved then and completely agreed with their philosophy, but after thinking about how the Imperium has to be an ortocracy in order to survive in a galaxy that cruel, I see the Tau's as children that don't understand what they are doing. I do love that there is a race that value the greater good as the tau do as a contrast to the Imperiums idea of the greater good
I thoroughly enjoyed your comparison of our grimdark galaxy with the neighborhood. I've never played Tau but also enjoy their mech look. Never really understood the static the Tau and their players receive. Thanks for this intro brother!
These pieces of story narration in the beginning really bring the lore to life. All the respect to you for achieving that. And thank you for your effort!
I thought we would never get back to the Tau. The Tau are my favorite faction other than the Imperium of man . They actually seem kinda good lol. Keep up the great content Sir.
You do great work Baldermort. Your audio dramas and lore are what keep me watching your videos. Please consider collaborating with 40k theories, Bruva Alfabusa, and/or Occulus Imperialis. I like seeing 40k fan channels working together. Also at 5:34 the image of the ethereal really makes the tau look hideous.
Your videos are incredible. You do justice to every faction you create for and its a real pleasure listening to each one. This video especially since i am a tau player and its nice to hear a lore video in a neutral environment
I want to make videos that a player can watch/listen to that makes their chest swell with pride. I have often said that every single army is good and every single player should have at least ONE video or person on their side. All armies are worthy of a rara. :) :)
@@Baldermort and you do a fantastic job. The stories you narrate at the beginning. Are they exerpts from already puplished works or do you write them yourself?
Carl Zerris I write them as I go. It’s an attempt to make it easier for newer fans of warhammer to get into it. Unpolished, but hopefully not too awful. ;).
Hi Baldermort, 6 months eh, I think I've listened to most of the back catalogue now and the though the early stuff was, shall we say, a bit rough around the edges, just look how far you've come! From little acorns brother do mighty oaks grow! Love what your doing, the content and your delivery, it's a shame that some people feel the need to bring the hate, but keep up the good work and keep making the videos YOU want to make, I know you believe everyone should make time for fun and we will only continue to reap the rewards of your labours whilst this endeavour is fun for you! Personally, I could probably just listen to read the phone book, you have such great tone and delivery, for me it's been a tough few days and I'm on a long journey home but your voice in my ear as I sit here decompressing makes it all just a bit more bearable. Thank you brother Baldermort, here's to the next 6 months!
Thank you for all of your kind words and sentiments brother. I am sorry I could not respond last night. I hope you decompression and journey home were uneventful and you are now relaxing and making time for some fun. :) :) (lets hope I don't draw as much wrath on later vids as I did on this one. Sigh. I've had to remove over a dozen entries from very stressed people. I know its the way of the internet, but I still find it hard to get my head around it to be honest) Wish me luck! It seems I am going to need it in spades. :) :)
@@Baldermort The journey was indeed uneventful thankfuo and no need for apologies... I hadn't listened to the tau video when commenting at the time, but having enjoyed it on the way home that day I fail to see how a reasonable person could find it disagreeable...as you said "it's the internet" as the maestro said "you can't please all the people all the time" and as my ol' lady says "you can't reason with stupid"... Think everyone could do with an extra portion of fun right now, just hope it brings people together, figuratively speaking not literally (that'd probably be a bad idea right now) and those that feel the need to spout off online gain some perspective......we live in hope! Right, I'm off for a dose of baneblades and then perhaps just a smidgen of the art of war before the sandman comes a knockin'.
Your message is an un-grimdark as I can imagine, and it delights me. Thank you so much for providing a safe genie for newbies to discover this amazing property. I FINALLY found this video as I'm working through your catalog. I'm deeply fascinated by this faction, in part because of the dichotomy you mention in the end here. The Tau are, in being not very grimdark, perhaps the most grimdark. I dig it.
I missed it back when the tau feels like the good guy. Because they highlights the grimdark very well, and it makes their fall from grace or their realization of the whole situation even more beautiful. Now they still feel like the good guy, but a good guy in a sense of being the least evil which takes away some of the highlights of the 40k universe that I like.
I think they should be good but flawed. Or start out noblebright but become noble dark. They realize their situation, but instead of despairing they stand more united than before and yell at the grimdark universe that they have a line they will not cross and will not sink any lower. They will not become the imperium. //if they die then they die with their morals intact.
I love so much the necrons face. His eye just glaring at you as you say those things with a speech pattern like Yzma from the emperors new grove on her rant about boxes in boxes. "Then you and everyone, in, your, house, is, dead."
Another fascinating entry, sir! I must admit that I have never played the tabletop game as I've ever been a fan of pen and paper roleplaying games but the lore of this setting is deep and well crafted. And thanks to your hard work detailing these stories, I've become increasingly enthralled by them. Well done and thank you from this gentle listener.
Very good video. It's somewhat rare for a lore-youtuber to respect each faction they cover instead of bashing the factions they don't like or simply going with what the general public thinks of the faction. When even people like Luetin doesn't bother to do his normal amount of research and just bash the Tau for an hour with no respect for any canon lore whatsover, it's refreshing to see you actually giving them justice to the best of your abileties. Thank you for your professionalism brotha. Otherwise, some little correction/precision (just pointing those out for the futur, not out of bad faith): 1) About canon T'au physiology : "It had no nose, instead breathing through a slit that ran from the middle of its forehead to level with the lower edge of its eyes." (Black Leviathan by Ben Counter, in Damocles, p. 219). There's plenty of evidences for such a thing in the novels. And yes, I know that 'Xenology' says otherwise, but I consider the more recent novels more canon. 2) Tau blood is red. quote from an interview that Phil Kelly did: "The tooled-up battlesuits of the Farsight Enclaves, coloured the deep red of T’au blood in respect to those who died on Arkunasha**** **** It’s been red from the first ever account of the sacred ta’lissera blood bond. We tried different coloured blood for our alien races - Orks had green blood at one point - but it just didn’t look right on the miniatures, nor in the art." -link to the source: www.warhammer-community.com/2017/06/28/farsight-the-author-speaks/
*insert Tau not fighting in meele joke here* Also "Tau have barely any knowledge of chaos" Meanwhile in dawn of war dark crusade and soul storm: "DAEMONS EVERYWHERE"
I mean, Dawn of War also has the Knarloc as a match for a Bloodthirster or Avatar of Khaine, so I think it's safe to assume gameplay interactions aren't exactly canon.
What if the Emperor in a psychic state communicated with Cegorach and a possible other ( Silent King ? ). To devise a plan to help the Tau evolve to be less psychically linked, to stop the possibility of being tainted by Chaos. Then help the Tau set into space to unite some races to help stop The Warp entities. Especially since their own races aren’t doing much but adding to the Warp. It’s just a Theory.... A film... GRIM-DARK THEORY !!!
Nah, I think it's just their philosophy, of dutiful service to each other, in conjunction with their remarkable t'au biology. Particularly their brains? Ganglia? Melon? Whatever form their neural organ takes.
I only noticed this on the 15th, but what a good birthday present. Been painting up my Tau armored company, otherwise known as an Armored Interdiction Cadre. Only one Cold star commander, longstrike, 2 Ionheads, 1 Railhead, 2 Sky rays, 3 piranhas, and 3 devilfish with a full assortment of various infantry and fireblades. Nothing that moves less than 12" Very thematic, and 32 Seeker missiles means its got on hell of an alpha strike.
I have no great love or hatred of the Tau so I have no problem saying what some won't. I GOTTA HAVE ONE OF THOSE SUITS MAN!!!!! Also - You get points for the Sharpe reference.
Also you know what no one ever talks about.... was how long the Tau spent in the immaterium. Yes they were there for 6,000 standard years, but how long is that in the immaterium? Half of that or double? It's really an interesting thing to think about.
Commander, I am no expert on anything, but certainly not of the Tau. Can you tell me the root of this situation, as I have never come across it before. :)
Thank you so much for this. I have joined the hobby around 2 years ago starting with Blood Angels. Gradually I started building and painting a Tau army and I must say nowadays I much prefer their lore and models. It was a rude awakening when I found out that people hate this faction with every cell in their body. And not just in an Imperium of Man xenophobic roleplay kind of way but real hate, as if this novel faction has completely ruined their enjoyment of their hobby. I have not been in this hobby for too long and maybe some of the oddities of the Tau within the setting are lost on me. But I loved them for what they are and I am so glad my thoughts finally make sense to me thanks to your video. I am currently stuck at home, painting my Ghostkeel and listening to your channel and I cannot wait for your PA: The Greater Good video! Thank you for being an inclusive, wholesome and eloquent lore channel. Your voice is music to my ears and your thoughtfulness mends my soul. Now that we got all of this awkward but sincere fan mail out of the way: *Imperium fanboys don't @ me, your Gue'la flashlights will never get close enough to talk shit before my overwatch gunline turns you into pulse-roasted pork belly!*
i deeply appreciate your unbiased, exciting, and thematic representations of all factions of the 41st millenium. bless you and your quality lore content Baldermort, never change.
I can't help but feel like this is Rogal Dorn's explanation of the universe to the TTS-Emperor. He was wise enough to fortify the TTS-buttons before hand as to not be interrupted!
The Kroot would be something the Tyranids would want to find and consume as much as possible given that both species seek out new DNA to shape themselves. Well the Kroot have done most of the leg work for the Tyranids. Consume a consume some Kroot shapers and you have the DNA from parts of the Galaxy you haven't entered yet. Also the Tau have races in their empire that can travel the galaxy, the Kroot I believe can. So why can't the Tau use those races to travel the Galaxy?
I just recently found your channel and you are the absolute best lore channel I have come across. You have the perfect voice for this and your videos are brilliantly detailed and interesting.
"No Tau has ever been corrupted by the powers of Chaos." If I may correct you Baldermort, there has been an incidence. Por'Mal'caor, the Waterspider was corrupted after touching a salvaged warp drive. You can read about it in the Farsight books.
Bravo Good Sir 👍, I enjoyed the contrast of the factions. Especially the young Imperium vs the young Tau empire. Keep us thinking my friend. As usual you exceeded my expectations. TTFN!
Excellent work brother and did go back to the early vid and yes you have improved but it was the early videos that made me stick around and well worth the watch keep it up brother.
Love Tau! They are such a firm symbol of a hopefull future in 40k's extremely brutal and depressing universe. They feel like a slow boiling lore in 40k, like they have a massive part to play in the big finale. Like they are the answer to how the "good" species will learn to work together to survive the last big Chaos conflict. Tau shows how strong unity and lack of selfishness can be as a weapon. Something that is sooo desperately needed in 40k. Peace and harmony. Because that is the only thing that doesn't feed the Chaos gods! All the conflict, death and wars just make Chaos stronger each and every fucking secound of ever millennium! It's hopelessly silly when you think about it.
Even though i don't much care for the tau aesthetically. I still find there lore , technology, and society. Interesting nonetheless , i also wish there was more stories of the tau fighting the orks , and tyranids. It'd be a interesting match up to be sure. Especially after my time playing the DoW dark crusade game. The tau were surprisingly strong if used effectively. But still i love all the races and factions in 40k. Regardless of what they are. And still yet you've done all the races so far poetic justice with your voice work and storytelling.

That they were designed to be the way they are. To be the cement that unites the mortal races as ONE core against Chaos and the evil races of 40k!

preferred answer of the firewarrior commander at the beginning: sigh "Gue'vesa, I would not call you that had the water caste not vouched for your and your peoples loyalty and I have no reason to doubt them or you.
DeHerg Yep. That might have been a lot better. I’ll never beat a hardcore fan on their chosen race. You definitely outdid me in this one. :).
@@Baldermort Hey, this isn't a competition who writes the "better" in lore dialog. Your passionate speech perfectly encapsulates the motives why a human would give everything to defend the ethereals new order and in fact inspired me to write up the tau's response to begin with. Both parts could be in there to complement each other and show the differing perspectives (ideas of devotion to the point of self sacrifice vs utilitarian views on life(notice the tau never even implied that human life has any personal value to him?))
PS: my favorite are actually the Tallarn desert raiders (do you have a video on them in planning? pretty pls?:) )
PPS: also I could never even come close to your outstanding voicework
This may have been the last place I expected to come across a Sharpe reference.

Even if you don't consider them "grimdark" enough, they do a great job of showing just how grimdark everyone else is in comparison.
Thank you for listening, as always, brother Carl. :)
@Orias that's quiet true, but the ordinary citizen pleb is also brainwashed with propaganda and the absolute hate for xenos scum
The Tau Empire lies close to Ultramar, near the Hadex Anomaly
Isn't there lore about forced sterilization of gue'vasa?
There's also a big chunk about the rigidity of the caste system, where its almost more of a nightmare than those found in India. Eugenics, mind control, subversion, totalitarianism... no, I've always argued that the Tau fit in just right in the GrimDarkness of the 41st millennium.
@Lord Admiral Spire DoW isn't canon?
The bit where Baldermort questions if the race that gave ion cannons to the Tau were squats had me ablaze with laughter
I personally like to imagine the Tau having dry, raspy voices differing in pitch depending on their Caste.

-This comment section,
Personally I don't like the tau, however I love the nuance they represent.

Same, I adore Nurgle but T'au are actually pretty interesting.
Considering the Admech nicked a stealthsuit for study (i think) id say that pretty understandable for one of your factions
This is the most Heretical bullshit I have ever read. AVE IMPERATOR!!!
I think they would have the same problem as the tau at current. The would simply be too small.
One also needs to remember that they are also Human, not Tau; And are therefor HEAVILY susceptible to the taint of Chaos, leaving these supposed Gue'Vesa Independents doomed in the end.

I FINALLY found this video as I'm working through your catalog. I'm deeply fascinated by this faction, in part because of the dichotomy you mention in the end here. The Tau are, in being not very grimdark, perhaps the most grimdark. I dig it.
Man I don't know why this channel isn't bigger....great narration

When even people like Luetin doesn't bother to do his normal amount of research and just bash the Tau for an hour with no respect for any canon lore whatsover, it's refreshing to see you actually giving them justice to the best of your abileties. Thank you for your professionalism brotha.
Otherwise, some little correction/precision (just pointing those out for the futur, not out of bad faith):
1) About canon T'au physiology : "It had no nose, instead breathing through a slit that ran from the middle of its forehead to level with the lower edge of its eyes." (Black Leviathan by Ben Counter, in Damocles, p. 219).
There's plenty of evidences for such a thing in the novels. And yes, I know that 'Xenology' says otherwise, but I consider the more recent novels more canon.
2) Tau blood is red.
quote from an interview that Phil Kelly did:
"The tooled-up battlesuits of the Farsight Enclaves, coloured the deep red of T’au blood in respect to those who died on Arkunasha****
**** It’s been red from the first ever account of the sacred ta’lissera blood bond. We tried different coloured blood for our alien races - Orks had green blood at one point - but it just didn’t look right on the miniatures, nor in the art."

*insert Tau not fighting in meele joke here*
Also "Tau have barely any knowledge of chaos"
Meanwhile in dawn of war dark crusade and soul storm: "DAEMONS EVERYWHERE"
I mean, Dawn of War also has the Knarloc as a match for a Bloodthirster or Avatar of Khaine, so I think it's safe to assume gameplay interactions aren't exactly canon.
@@aprinnyonbreak1290 but cannon interactions are and cannon says that there were battles between the tau and the chaos forces
I mean you don't exactly learn much from chaos when your only job at that point and time is shoot and shoot more
What if the Emperor in a psychic state communicated with Cegorach and a possible other ( Silent King ?
Mike Cat lol. Corking. I doubt it, but it’s a nice idea. :).
Thank you for listening, brother Blair. (ME TOO!)
:)
They didn't spend 6000 years in the warp. A warp storm prevented space travel to their world for 6000 years.
Now that we got all of this awkward but sincere fan mail out of the way:
*Imperium fanboys don't @ me, your Gue'la flashlights will never get close enough to talk shit before my overwatch gunline turns you into pulse-roasted pork belly!*
always was tempted to play tau, but now im convinced im playing a Gue'vesa army
"three rounds per min" was that a Sharpe reference? 🤔
Of course. Everyone should know by now that I am an older English chap and utterly ridiculous. :)
@@Baldermort your language & voice make it easily enough ;)
It doesn't matter the color of the other guy's balloon.
Well said my man.
i deeply appreciate your unbiased, exciting, and thematic representations of all factions of the 41st millenium. bless you and your quality lore content Baldermort, never change.
I can't help but feel like this is Rogal Dorn's explanation of the universe to the TTS-Emperor. He was wise enough to fortify the TTS-buttons before hand as to not be interrupted!
That outro was the most wholesome thing ever. Thank you!
Omg, your reference to "3 shots a minute" makes me think of the Sharpe show with Sean Bean! Tau holding the line, now that's Soldiering!
Your voice reminds me of the narrator from the game 'Dungeon Keeper'.
Love the content. Keep it coming, faithful servant.
StylesV13 not wishing to be too dependent on client nations I believe. But I need to check when my new books arrive. Sorry. :(.
Great video, and a fantastic voice. They should hire you for audio books bud.
I will say this every time you are going to post a new video: thank you brother Boldemort.
Love the video! Keep them up, the Tau are my favorite race in 40K.
"For the Great Good!"
Great video as always mate and totally Agree with the message at the end. Top work as always brother Boldermort
This episode has made me appreciate the Tau.
I just recently found your channel and you are the absolute best lore channel I have come across. You have the perfect voice for this and your videos are brilliantly detailed and interesting.
Glad you enjoy it!
Awesome message, mate... Oi Oi Oi #balloons
Thank you for the awesome work on Warhammer 40K lore!
"No Tau has ever been corrupted by the powers of Chaos."
If I may correct you Baldermort, there has been an incidence.
TTFN!
I loved the Sharpe reference 😂
I am a silly person. It had to be done. Couldn't resist. :)
Excellent work brother and did go back to the early vid and yes you have improved but it was the early videos that made me stick around and well worth the watch keep it up brother.
John Gillett thank you brother Gillett, as always. :) :)
YES! BROTHER! My day just got much better.
I am shocked on how quickly you are smashing out all these videos I salute you
Remember, we all live in peace in the Tau'va....
Just like there is no war in Ba Sing Se....
Definitely no war in BA Sing Se…. The earth kingdom is fine. Just fine I tell you!!
Baldermort my friend, you are criminally under-subbed.
I have to wait till part 2!? Fine but I’m not happy about it. Guess I’ll have to rewatch your whole library again
Kone Whatsthenamespolicy lol. I just need more information. This one was rushed and not great. I need to do better. Need those books! :).
