I love this song! Used to listen to it when leaving school at the end of the day & it gave me lots of school pride! TY for sharing it. God Bless You & stay safe.
Fourth of July and I was home with a swollen lip from a car crash, but I sang every song along with the Boys on TV, mumbling at times and trying not to drool ! LOL ! No way I could have just sat there watching . Fantastic free concert from Washington DC. Must have been a million people there . Will never forget .
LIVE IN 1980 What a great year! Louisville beats UCLA basketball 59 to 54 for their first NCAA National Championship. High School Graduation for myself in 1980 at Broadbent Arena at the KY Fair and Exposition Center 387 graduates from Oldham County High School, the largest graduating class in School history since its founding in 1953. The Beach Boys live singing Be True to Your School, Brian, Carl, Dennis , Mike, Al, Bruce.
I went to this concert and the subway was so packed some guy says you know it's really crowded on the subway when you put your arm up and you can't get it down, great concert
Number 1. Mike Love did NOT create the Surf Sound. Dick Dale did. At least the twangy guitar parts. It was Brian's early production of the surf music that gave the group their surf music identity. 2. Your comment that Mike's lyrics with Brian's music is a propagated falsehood circulated by Mike himself to try and have the music world hold him in the same regard as Brian. Mike wrote SOME lyrics to SOME songs. For instance, Gary Usher wrote 90 to 95 per cent of the lyrics to 409. Mike wrote giddyup, giddyup, 409. That's it. Mike insinuated himself into the lyrical portion of WIBN, ad hoc singing "Goodnight my baby. Sleep tight my baby. " Tony Asher was livid when Mike insisted upon a co writing credit. Brian wrote all of IGA except for the "Round, Round, Get around, I get around" beginning part. The lyrics Round, Round get around, I get around were ALREADY in the song, written by Brian, Mike just borrowed and moved them to the opening. Mike claims to have written all the lyrics to Surfing USA. Al Jardine says that is not true. Fact is, Brian asked Dennis to write down some surfing spots and write down surf lingo. Dennis and his friend, Jimmy Bowles, sister of Surfer Girl, Judy Bowles, Brian's then GF, gave Brian the list and Brian arranged them lyrically. Let's give Mike credit for co-writing Surfin', Surfin' Safari, The Warmth of the Sun, Fun, Fun, Fun, Kiss Me Baby, Please Let me Wonder, GV etc.. but he did NOT write ALL the lyrics. He either added a line here and there or in most cases, like Tony Asher did, basically put Brian's thoughts down on paper.
@@whiteandright1958 it is true that Brian was the main lyricist, up until Pet Sounds. Mike's contributions were mostly changing a few words, here and there. Apart from a few songs, where they co wrote the lyrics - which you list.
Man, the Beach Boys were a staple at the DC 4th of July celebration every year until Watt changed the format in '83. We didn't go anymore after that; it just wasn't worth the crowd to see Wayne Newton or some similar act....
Also wir, die Kinder in Deutschland, möchten die Beach Boys sehr gern. Und viele sagten auch, daß sie gern in Kalifornien leben würden, um sich eventuell, den amerikanischen Traum zu erfüllen.
Everybody likes to hate on Mike, but nobody else in 1963(!), while the Beatles were still living in bunks in Germany, sang this and created the surf sound along with Brian, other than Mike freaking Love. He was really, really good, and the only reason he’s still touring is because Brian is cool with it. Even after the lawsuits, drugs, and deaths in the family, they love each other and The Beach Boys. SpongeBob did sing it very well, but Tom Kenny would tell you, Mike Love taught him how to sing it. Blink 182 made an entire legendary career doing a Mike Love impression. It’s the sound of Southern California. Deal with it.
@@NickWeissMusic Mike Love has been living off Brian Wilson for some 60 plus years. Mike nor Brian created the surf sound... that was Dick Dale. Brian incorporated that sound with harmonic vocals and lush production and created the California sound. As far as touring goes. You know nothing. After Carl died, Al and Mike had competing bands both using the name, The Beach Boys. Mike sued Al and lost. Being the better businessman, Mike offered the Beach Boys BOD (Al, Mike, Brian and the estate of Carl Wilson) a deal. Mike would LEASE the name The Beach Boys in a evergreen clause one year contact from the BOD. In exchange, Mike would pay each BOD member 3.25 percent of the gross profits from every concert. It is estimated the 4 BOD members make 3 to 4 million a year on the deal, and yes, Mike does pay himself in this deal. Brian and The estate of Carl Wilson had given a portion of their proceeds to Dennis children, but now that they are in their 50s and 60s I don't know if that's the case anymore. Mike actually wanted to tour less over the last few years, but since the BOD sold the rights to Irving Azoff's Legacy Iconic Group for 200 million, he HAS to continue to tour to promote the name and keep it in the public eye. Also, Mike has 4 ex wives and 1 wife. Each ex-wife gets lifetime alimony, which ain't cheap.
I was there, 44 years ago! Jeez!
Lucky you!
Great to watch Dennis on drums still.
One of the greats

KYYS Kansas City KY-102 High School Drags at KCIR Raceway every year !!!!
Mike really created the surf sound. He is and was really good at writing lyrics with brians arrangements. Best together than apart.
Mike created nothing. Brian wrote the songs and Mike sang.
Finally a comment not shitting on Mike Love

Brian Wilson on piano and not one shot of him on film for this song?

Brian Wilson is the Beach Boys.
Not Mike Love
Mike Love sounded good in the 60s, he's visually the worst front man I've ever seen

“I don’t like Mike Love at all.”-Brian Wilson
It's official - Mike Love dances like a circus bear with a broken foot. Stick with singing, Mike.
Denny was looking rough.
Papa Doo Run Run did it better, and
they were a local (Silicon Gulch) band.
steve
