Watching the majority of these games be entirely determined by who goes first and whether you get fucked by land draw or not is exactly why I don't play MTG anymore. Might as well just flip coins to see who wins. The few games where both sides actually get to play a game are fantastic, but too rare.
@@axelbrackeniers5488 I should lean more into that. It does seem you get more "real" games of magic in that format. But I think best of 3 just makes it more coin flips unfortunately. I'm starting to think the random element of drawing resources is a huge burden for this game. Though I'm not a fan of how other games have "solved" it either.

I hate it when I have too much mana and too little mana simultaneously according to the shuffler. One golden day, WOTC will make a shuffler that works. People have offered to do it for free ffs...

you won't cut the tome so i won't talk you out of it. but consider cutting either 2 annex or 2 archfiend for more removal. the annex/ritual chamber just seemed like a card you were rarely happy to have in these games, and while the archfiend is good you don't really want to draw more than 2 in games that don't consistently hit turn 8. you could probably afford to cut two of each, but maybe experiment how dropping 2 of either feels. i'd personally rather have more 1-2 mana removal and survive long enough to fish for lands with tomes than having more threats than i will ever have mana for. i don't like feeling like i auto-lose from missing my 4th and/or 5th land, so i'd rather have ways to survive when that happens rather than playing as if it shouldn't EVER happen.
23:00 - the person with the gruul deck makes me wonder how people reach mythic!!!!!!! He could plot them and play around removal, can players be that bad?
It doesn't take much skill to climb if you play BO1. You just need to play a good deck, have a bit of intelligence and play a lot. BO3 is more competitive because an opponent can sideboard and adjust the gameplan to your deck and play patterns.
I wonder if they have play tested a rule change to match Duel Masters yet. Where all cards can be converted to a single mana of the card's own colors. Kind of like the mana flip cards but all cards having that effect and they enter untapped.
Everyone would play aggro because you don't risk mana screw by playing 18 lands etc. The entire game would change and 30 years of deckbulding philosophy would go to trash. You just need to check where lands are before shuffling IRL. In Arena... well it's bad algorithm that results in more mana screws. The only solution that I could think of that would not change deck builds is that you can fetch a land on 5th turn instead of drawing a card if you have only 2 lands in play.
@ I don’t think I ever struggled against Agro in Duel Masters. Sure it would fundamentally change deck building because lands wouldn’t exist but it could also be treated like a different format. I just wonder what it would look and feel like. They invited the system surely they tested it in MTG.
Do you forget that the other side of the room makes a 6/6 Demon? Never saw you use it. Even against the blue player that you knew had counters in his hand.
Because that deck usually runs more unsummons/floodmaws than counter spells so wasting a turn on the chamber feels real bad and you’d rather play to get the counters out of their hand asap
ngl the fact that slasher brings itself back for free is so fkn toxic on an already spammable card. just got into mtg arena these past few weeks and mono black is singlehandedly ruining the game for me.

This is exactly why 60 card formats are normally best of 3.
And its also why commander is do popular, its really casual, who goes first never matters and you usually get to do a LOT

the good thing of not drawing any lands at the beginning of the game is that in the critical moment you will draw all lands exclusively :)
