Thanks very much. As of 2023, nearly 30 years ago. Frightening, but a great piece of railway history captured. Love the way the Eurostar comes off the west end curve.
Tonbridge was on the original route to Europe from Waterloo International. Tonbridge was chosen for photography that day because Ashford (first choice) had so much engineering going on. In retrospect, I think Tonbridge was the better choice.
Back in the 70's the announcements were on an unreliable tape and I would often have to do them personally. Even after all these years I can still remember most of them! We used to call the female announcer 'Angie' as I recall. I'm an ex area relief box boy based from Tonbridge, railman, leading railman and then wheel tapper before leaving in 1984.
@Maustrap for your interest these are the old trains which I used to travel on here in south east England where I live not as modern as of your trains in Switzerland.
Time machine please? Great video, it's a shame the traction has changed completely at Tonbridge and the rest of the southern region now. Liked and faved
Eurostar services ran through Tonbridge station until the first section of the High Speed line was built through Kent, to cut down journey times from London to the Channel Tunnel.
Is this supposed to be in widescreen? Since I thought all 90s camcorders recorded in 4:3 so is this video stretched or ever worse cropped into a 16:9 widescreen frame?
A pity that the railways are no longer like this. All have been replaced by characterless, plastic, foreign junk with their menacing ironing board seats. Bring Back British Rail I say!

I remember watching one of the first eurostars going through Tonbridge when I was a kid.... brought back a few memories!

Fantastic video. So many memories!
I go from tonbridge station everyday to get to work, so weird seeing a video of it from the year I was born! damn I miss what I remember of the 90s :(
What a fantastic video, wish there was more..
Tonbridge in 1995, good old days of Network southeast's slam door EMU's, Eurostar's early days from Waterloo-Ashford International on DC pick up rail
Just discovered your videos John, keep up the good work. Ex Orpy driver.

Year I was born I miss the 90's doubt i'll ever stray very far from Tonbridge but it is home after all even if it has changed.
Haha what memories. I witnessed this scene every day from the mid 90s until 2001.

Oh wow. You caught a pair of 37/6 units testing for Nightstar. That's got to be a rarity.
Great footage, what were the Eurostars doing in Tonbridge? On test?

I'd forgotten how spotlessly clean the Eurostars were back then.
