  • A foggy day as Redhill station when Tonbridge - Reigate services were worked by real DMU's, London - Brighton services worked by real EMU's and Gatwick Express services were worked by real loco's. Also features class 33 and 47 workings.

I think that's me 'Dave Lace' shunting with 09004 between 1.26 & 2 minutes ! Many happy memories of being a Redhill mixed traction driver, Many thanks for uploading this.

Fantastic video, it brings back a lot of memories for me. I forgot how busy Redhill used to be with everything going on. I really enjoyed watching it. I also forgot what it was like to have hair!! I couldn't believe it when I saw myself despatching the DMU near the beginning of the video. Thank you for uploading.

How Redhill station has changed in the past 25 years. Royal Mail parcel depot gone; empty sidings; no wagons waiting to be moved. Sad to see so much activity disappear, but it's great that you were there to record it at the time - thank you for sharing.

This brings back a lot of memories. This was almost the end for DMUs to Tonbridge. It went over to DEMUs from May 93 to May 94, the last year before electrification. That bell went off whenever a train was routed in or out of platform 1 presumably to warn staff using the foot crossing.

My dad was a driver here before transferring to three bridges, I used to go to work with him a lot, I remember all the activity well, great memories.

At 1.45 we get a good shot of the old ODEON. Alas that has now gone like most others of the era.

It was getting to the stage I was going to have to increase my prices. I always wanted to give value for money and I felt that it would be better to post more clips here than to charge 20 quid for a DVD. The high prices of air mail with Canada Post was another huge factor. I hope that the clips posted here make up for it.

what is with the fire alarm in these videos ? Every video at redhill has this bell

No fire alarm. In front of the DMU in the sidings you can see a staff walkway / crossing point from the end of the platform (Go to 6.45 for a very good view of it). The bell is to warn staff using the crossing of an approaching train. With other stock in the sidings, traffic from the Reigate direction is almost impossible to see approaching.
The yard was once very busy with parcels / mail and departmental stock shunted there plus some hopper wagons from the nearby BIS sand quarry.
