I delayed one of those old slam doors on the way to school once when I accidently closed it on my foot and lost my shoe on the tracks. The guys working at the station were nice enough to hold up the train and retrieve my shoe with a long stick.
The centre trailer was knocked out of a few CEPs so that they could maintain 375 timings. They didn't half fly without that extra 30-odd tons in the formation.
Fantastic reminder of that period and very good quality sound that is so important. Always impressed with the Thumpers lack of smoke - guess they weren't `over fueled' to get more power. Not bad for an engine design with origins going back to the 1930s (I believe).
Funny with the train at 1:10, the CEP on the front, despite being around 20 years older, and still in old Network South East colours, looks much better and cleaner than the Connex Livery VEP at the back.
Tonbridge, where i used to see-off my loco-driving girlfriend some years ago. A unique experience i tell ya! And where i took 100's of phots years before that.
Look at the size of that nameplate at 5:13 on 207202. Jeezers creepers!!! Bringing back great memories of standing on Ashford station in 1983 aged 11 seeing the CEPs VEPS MLVs HAPs CAPs EPBs 33s 73s 47s 205s 207s 12-CEP & MLV on the boat trains screaming past on the through roads and 50050 in 1985 on the Dungeness Pebbledasher. Wonderful!!

1:28 Right..... THERE! My childhood has returned! :D
Excellent Video. Particularly liked the DEMUs at the end. At least with those you could hear them for miles at a level crossing or footpath crossing!
god it seems like an age since these units were running - I miss them!

2003 my final season with Combe Haven, Euro star on its way to Waterloo, on pick up rail power.
Eurostar trains are no longer using the south eastern mainline because they’ve been shifted to st Pancras as of 2007
And the demu thumpers are no longer here either because the class 171 southern turbostar units have now took over
What was the class 465 doing at Tonbridge in 2003? I thought its normally slam doors and class 365s that go to Tonbridge
Nice video and nice trains. Thumbs up! :)
Why was the class 465 at Tonbridge?
We normally have slam doors and class 365 going to Tonbridge
I thought the class 421s normally work with South Central trains later Southern are normally painted in Connex livery and southern green livery
so many memeoirs of tonbridge
The slam door emus are no longer here they’ve been replaced by the electrostar units
And networkers
Yeah most of them have been destroyed and lost to time.
The 19 Class 365s are in storage and all of the Class 465s and Class 466s are still in service
@@lewisculverwellvlogs9789 No Class 423 anymore. All but a few were scrapped.
@@Thorpe Why was there a Class 465 at Tonbridge I thought it's normally Class 365s that go to Tonbridge
