He ran the last 100m in just under 12 secs, I timed it at around 11.9. Incredible acceleration and speed at the end of a 10k, and even more impressive given that he was running at under world record pace for most of the race.
yes, Gebrselassie was just about the equal of Bekele. Currently in 2016 the best track distance runner is Mo Farah, and he's not nearly as fast. In fact, Paul Tergat was much faster than Farah over the 10000.
Mo cannot keep the same super fast pace as Bekele and Gebrselassie could when they were in their prime. Mo Farah does have a heck of a kick though. If he's in range with a couple hundred meters left he's very dangerous.
I have watched this race many times. I'm still amazed by this extraordinary performance. Special mention to his brother who did a good job to push him, up until the 5 000 meter mark but also at the very end.
I ran 1km @ 16km/h on the treadmill today, I felt like I was going to die but still well impressed with my self. Came back home to see how fast the pros run and this guy ran 22.8km/h for 10km??? WTF. That's some amazing talent!
Im my opinion this is the strongest performance in men- long distance running of all time, as Paula Radcliffes Marathon-WR the strongest woman- ldr performance is!
The other Elite runners are running in "Beast Mode" so they won't get overlapped, but Bekele is in "Hulk mode"!!! This is just crazy, i have no Words..,
THE sad news is..the guy behind bekele, his name samy he passed away 2011.he has won Beijing marathon in 2008,also other races ,but i heard, he felt from second co rider at his home, Kenya .
@@Jazzper79 No it's not, if you see the previous lap they mistake too and show a 58 s lap, when it was a 64, the next one even it is a 64 again (see the diference in seconds) they put him a 70s lap, i dont know if they do to compensate or because there is a mistake in the chrono.
Usually required things are in the IAAF Competition Rulebook. The only rules discussing lapped runners state that a runner must be given notification when he is about to be lapped, and that lapped athletes cannot give assistance to runners (i.e. pacing after being lapped). In the future, please don't make up random "facts" when talking to people that actually know the sport.
Is there somewhere I can go to get the entire results of an individual runner ? The IAAF website is terrible. It doesn't even give individual career results.
It's not a rule. Most people seem to think that it's expected, but the lapped runner is under no obligation to move out. As you said, the awesome one's usually do (if they know someone is coming).
Hmm, sorry you feel that way about me personally. Did I have to include that last sentence? No, it was over the top. Not that it excuses being snide, but there are a LOT of people on here that are completely clueless and that tends to draw out such comments. I took issue because you made a blanket statement that it is required. It is often not, and your statement can easily be read as implying its required in all cases. The M.O. can ask runners to move if lapped, but not sure if can sanction
mo farah is nuff more than joke against this man... he was really epic athlete... comparing mo farah 27:05 (pers best 26:46) rio 2016 to bekele 26:17 ahahaha
What is the point of your comparison ? Mo Farah is a great runner for his time. The fact the WR is way much lower that the time the 10000 are ran today does not make other athletes ridiculous
The greatest distance runner who ever lived.
UNREAL!!!!!!! He is a MACHINE...
That's my 5km time! This man's a monster
The world must have been chocked by this performance. This goes beyond what I thought the human body was able to.

13.3 you look the wrong place
kenenisa bekele is the best runner in the word
admirable
Bekele ran the 10,000m at 4:14 pace. He also ran the 5,000m world record at 4:00 mile pace. He makes even the elites look like high schoolers!
Admiro este récord.. se hizo sin utilizar la Tecnología 👏. Grande bekele, hiciste todo el trabajo solito 👏👏
I can't conceive how he could speed up drastically in the last lap after having ran for 24 laps at a high enough speed.
its called insane genetics, insane training and doping on top
@@Neith93 kenenisa is not a doper
This record may never be broken. No 10000 runner has come close since Bekele ran it.
Haile Gebrselassie was close, he is the reason that pushed bekele as far as he went. But since then, noone came close indeed
yes, Gebrselassie was just about the equal of Bekele. Currently in 2016 the best track distance runner is Mo Farah, and he's not nearly as fast. In fact, Paul Tergat was much faster than Farah over the 10000.
Gebreslassie and Bekele would have waisted Mo Farah. Mo is slow.

Ronex Kipruto or joshua cheptegei may break this record i think
Beyond human. The greatest.
Único e inigualable ,el más grande d todos los tiempos Kenenisa Bekele
A world record diserves a painful smile, even on the greatest runner's face.
Bekele eres y serás un gran deportista ejemplo a seguir. magnifico tiempo difícil de igualar
I have watched this race many times. I'm still amazed by this extraordinary performance.

No addidas shoes, no side light ,no pace maker ,no problem ,the greatest ever
Hee beats the WR by «just» 3 seconds! And he almost sprinted during the entire distance. The 10000m is an ultimate discipline.
He beat his own records

And the end he looked like he just finished running 3km on a treadmill..... Most people can barely stand after finishing 10k, That's amazing.
Bekele is more like a machine. xD!! He really does look like a running robot out there. That's with that great form and fluid legs he has
Unbelievable.. even on a bicyble you need to ride pretty hard to keep up with 'em. Respect!
Im my opinion this is the strongest performance in men- long distance running of all time, as Paula Radcliffes Marathon-WR the strongest woman- ldr performance is!
I can't wait to to see Land of Kenenisa,.Ethiopia.
Was there any runner in this race who did not get lapped?
Wanjiru ran WR juniors, 25 seconds slower
The other Elite runners are running in "Beast Mode" so they won't get overlapped, but Bekele is in "Hulk mode"!!! This is just crazy, i have no Words..,
This comment is poetry. Bekele is indeed the living definition of hulk mode when it comes to running.
THE sad news is..the guy behind bekele, his name samy he passed away 2011.he has won Beijing marathon in 2008,also other races ,but i heard, he felt from second co rider at his home, Kenya .
he was doing the last lap in 57 seconds after 23 laps this is absolutely insane 56 is my recorsd on 400 m and thats pretty fast
Bekele nunca morirá. Se inmortalizó. Pasarán siglos antes de que alguien ronpa su recor.
True
He never loses his posture. Looks like he has a very strong upper body.
He ran 57 secs for the last lap here, but he has run 53 secs for his last laps in the 2004 Olympics 10,000m and the Beijing Olympics 5000.
I ran a 400m at his pace a few days ago and I gotta tell you, I was really tired. I don't get how anyone could do that for 25 laps!
Superhuman
Me hubiese encantado ser la sombra de este gran hombre su últimos meses de preparación. Los entrenos deberían de ser bestiales!
Bekele no es un ser humano. Es una máquina.
11 second 100 meter dash at the end....
26'17"??????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!MAGNIFIQUE !!Le demi-fond c'est juste trop bien !
kenissa bekele is the great athlete in the world. he has a wonderful performance. he is one of the ethiopian hero. i like his speed!!!
Fortunately, I am not a runner and do not have to face this turbo jet.
amazing performance...unbeliveable...!!!
Beautiful runner :-)
Are those guys required to give him the inside edge when he's lapping them or are runners just awesome like that?
Bravo Kennissa Bekele !
Check the name
Did he overlap 3rd place at the end and that other guy in 2nd sprinted like hell so he didn't get overlapped to? haha
+Target842 haha yeah i saw that too.
Target842 Bekele doesnt go Hulk Mode.
Hulk goes Bekele mode.
the most unbelievable and unbeatable WR ever x_x
Will the 26' on 10k and 12' on 5k be broken one day ? It would be a tsunami in atletics...
Insane
This is one of the most difficult records to break. His 5000m world record has couple weak laps..But, this one is just beyond usual.
His lap at 4:14 is not so good, it is 70 sek - I think his 5000m is amazing as he is getting a second faster at each kilometer.

What's better his 5000m WR performance or his 10000m WR performance?
Donkey Kong both are great records, but I feel his 10k is better. also I think he could have done better in 5k with some 2-3 second
@@teshlawaldemariam917 I know right. The pacing was terrible. He could have ran 12:29

In high school the people being lapped won't budge but in the Olympics they respect the faster runner.
Simply unbelieveable!
Meanwhile i'm already out of breath when i take the stairs
Imortal kenenisa bekele
Habia sido bueno ver un duelo entre Bekele y Mo Farah, ambos en buen esta fisico y de salud.
unfortunately Bekele's last minute attempt to make the Rio 10,000m team failed so no dual with Mo this year :(
This is an average of about 2:37 min per Kilometer!!!
Thank You Kenenisa!!!

6.25 roughly.
wouldn't the car ruin the track?!?!?!
When you have just broke the WR, i dont think you care about the car ruining the track. lol

Bekele the best !
It's just being courteous. Not required at all. In close races runners do not do that to competitors--quite the opposite, in fact.
