Canchánchara - Cuban Rum & Honey Cocktail | Shev

- Опубліковано 7 січ 2016
- Rum expert Shervene Shahbazkhani has got an absolutely classic Cuban cocktail to show you called the Canchánchara. Originally created in the Cuban town of Trinidad, it's said to even pre-date that other classic rum cocktail - the Daiquiri. Our version is made with Bacardi white rum, good quality runny honey and fresh lemons. Give it a go - we think you'll love it! (This is a paid AD by Bacardi)

+GoSpringboksGo Fantastic! Loving your feedback, thank you!
Love Shev! She's (just like every other drinks tube host) so relaxed, professional and passionate in every video. Her enthusiasm for the drinks really makes me want to grab some rum and whip up one of her cocktails!

Awesome! :)
+Adrian Polidano awww thank you xx Those comments made my day! :-)
+Shervene Shahbazkhani of course! Can't wait to see the next drink recipe!
Use an aguaardiente or a white rum from a box. The rough notes of a young and rough liquor play wonderfully with the honey and citrus, I've tried this in the states and it was nowhere near what I had in Trinidad. Truly benefits from a full-contact rum that burns all the way down and a sweltering rooftop with a summer breeze.
Made two of these tonight it's a new favourite. I love the sweet and sour :P
It's a winning combo!
I'll try it tonight. Thanks!
it seems easy to make. gonna try it!
+wolfscratch Wohoo! That's what we like to hear! Go for it!
I made this with tequila and agave nectar instead of rum and honey. Delicious!
Sounds EPIC.
Just made one pretty delicious.
i'll be making them next time i get myself some rum. thanks for the recipe :)
+Joseph Mulpeter YAYAYAYAYAYAY! Thanks for watching, Joseph!
Perfect!
+Katye Proctor Freelon :D
I enjoy this cocktail every time I visit Trinidad de Cuba. It originated there. But lime, not lemon is used.
i made one myself and its amazing
Yaaaaaaaaay! So glad you like it!
And, Ron Santero is the original Afro-Cuban rum generally used, tho most Afro-Cubans say it isn't rum. Nonetheless, it can't taste as good anywhere in the world as it does in the little club called Canchanchara located very near the historical parque central in Trinidad, Sancti Spiritis, Cuba. On a hot afternoon, while stretched out listening to a local musicians, in the shade of the courtyard....definitely my favourite town in Cuba. And I've been to many.
do fireball shots next. thanks!
+Carl Justine Lavadia Challenge accepted!
Where can I buy all those tools? (not just jiggers or bar spoons but also shakers or so) I have recently moved into London, and I left all of my cocktail tools behind:(((((( Is the online shops the only way? I want to see, and buy them. Are there any good place to buy good-quality cocktail/bar tools?
+Hyo-myeong Park If you have just moved to London, the easiest would be to check out any of our popular department stores like John Lewis. They have beautiful quality barware.
I've only known this as Honeysuckle. Thanks for teaching me the correct name.
You can call it what you like buddy - it will still taste the same.
Question. I'm just getting into drinks recently and most places or things I read talk about drinks with eggs, fruit juices and cream should be shaken. Why is this one stirred and not shaken?
+tofuninja5489 Good question! This is stirred to help the honey dissolve.
Would this work with Dark Rum instead of White Rum?
Give it a whirl and see how it taste! We'd love to hear what you think!
Im assuming it matters what kind of honey? Like honey from orange blossoms is going to make the drink taste different than honey from clovers. Or is it not enough to be noticeable?
+Helena Dombrowski We'd suggest using a good quality honey as this will affect the taste your Canchánchara.
+Jamie Oliver's Drinks Tube Thats not what she asked.
+Carl Johansson The question was answered. The honey will affect the taste. Personally, I'd use a local raw honey, and just add water as necessary to make it runny enough to use.
But, yeah. Any sour will be affected by your choice of sweetener. When your drink has three components, it's pretty easy to see how each ingredient affects the flavor through experimentation. If you like the flavor of one type of honey over another, then use that (or use what best suits the rum you choose).
Thanks!
How would you make the warm version of this drink?
Use warm lemon juice - and then enjoy!
why lemon and not lime? is there a reason for that?
can we use this recipe with lime?
+Black Cat The lemon compliments the honey perfectly! We haven't tried it with lime ourselves but feel free to give it a shot.
This looks good! But I like sours in general. But better than a mojito? A specious claim at best! I can't think of anything that beats a well made mojito. :)
+Vykk Draygo got a few things in mind, what about a Manhattan? or an Aviation? ;)
Never had either! I prefer my whiskey neat, and my gin in a Rickey. :)
+Vykk Draygo There's only one way to settle it! Give this one a go, too: ua-cam.com/video/62dAIRFf5Go/v-deo.html ;)
I love you
😘
Oh I could get completely drunk off my ass on this one!
Cuban drink with Barcadi? Why do you never use Havanna Club?
+NougatSteak My bet is that Bacardi is the sponsor.
+NougatSteak Bacardi is the sponsor of DrinksTube. Without them, this entire channel might not exist. If you want to use a different brand, go ahead! Nothing's stopping you!
+NougatSteak Use whichever brand you prefer!
Should be limes no?
To use Bacardi in such a Cuban drink is just sacrilegious. Havana Club 7, at least.
I thought it was supposed to have aguardiente instead of rum.
Isn't this also called a "Honey Bee"? Guess that one's shaken.
Yep - the Honey Bee is shaken, this one is stirred!
can i shake this like i do to the "bees knees"?
great cocktail but please no bacardi! use havana club 7
Sounded good until you used Bacardi. That should be a last resort! There are so many great rums out there!
@andrew Landless : Lets make it with Captain Morgan maybe?
+andrew Landless
Personally I would not use the low end Bacardi rums at all. There are many much better examples of white rum. Brugal is just one.
Bacardí jajaja...
belive me a quality honey won't dissolve . your honey is mixed with water and sugar btw .
+Sultan Mehairi I've had honey fresh from the comb. It will dissolve, you just need to make a simple syrup with it (add water, and heat). And of course it has sugar. Honey IS sugar. Unless you mean added sugar, which I can't speak to. I know my honey doesn't have anything added, but I read the labels, and buy only local raw honey.
go to your store that sells hone y teak them about the sidir its what we call it in our country black honey fresh
that drink looks great but are you aware that "Bacardi" is Puerto Rican run. I don't know if there is such a thing as Cuban rum but you are a "rum except" shouldn't you have mentioned that. not hating just pointing something out
Sponsored by Bacardi is likely why!
+Nita F It was originally a Cuban rum. They left after Castro came into power, pretty much.
+Nita F First off, Vykk and Amy are correct in that Bacardi used to be Cuban but is now Puerto Rican and that Drinks Tube is sponsored by Bacardi. There is definitely Cuban rum - the most famous is Havana Club, but especially in America it is very difficult to acquire due to the Cuban Embargo. Bacardi still markets itself as Cuban and pushes its Cuban history, but the current taste of Bacardi is considered very different from its Cuban origins.
Cuban recipes , doesn't use Cuban rum .Makes sense .
