Jamie Oliver's Drinks Tube what i love to do is to rub a slice of a Granny Smith apple on the edge of the glass, its just delicious. cheers from México.
School age at bed a 8o'clock? What drugs did you take? School starts at 8am minimum... That would mean like 11 hours of sleep. Infants and babies go to bed that early, but not kids at school age.
JiiPeee i always went to bed at like 10 and now go at midnight... School starts at 8:15AM. When do you people even have dinner? In central italy we eat at 8:30 PM
I did all of the above, plus, adding a spray of the lime / citrus juices around the outer parts of the glass, then take the skin, spank it as you say and coat the rim with the oil. Simply something after a long day. Beautiful
Nice variation. I usually go for the Hendrick's Gin (60 ml) and San Pellegrino Tonic Water (120 ml) with a slice of cucumber and a twist of ground black pepper. Served in a whiskey glass :)
I usually squeeze two lime wedges and dunk them in and a bit more of tonic than gin ratio. Tanqueray is my fav gin. Another recipe is the hendrick's cucumber g&t, shot of hendrick's, sliced up or muddled cucumber cubes (slices for garnish) and a bit of pepper and the tonic to top it off.
I really enjoy watching Jamie do so many recipe variations.....he truly inspires one to get into the kitchen with such enthusiasm and creativity. These drink recipes look delicious!!😊
I made this for my mum and she said it was one of the best G&T's she has had. I've only ever had one with lemon but I'm converted to limes. I love Drinks Tube, can't wait to try something new next weekend.
For me, the best gin and tonic is 2 oz (60 ml) Beefeater, 4-5 oz Schweppes, topped with a lemon slice. I prefer lemon to lime because (1) I work at the produce section in a supermarket, and I juice limes all day for guacamole and pico de gallo. I got so tired of the smell of juiced limes that every lime smells like Skittles now to me. (2) Limes go brown before I can use them up. Bombay Sapphire is definitely a favorite, but more of a "special occasion" gin owing to its price.
I love Gin-Tonic. Some of my friends like Gin but don't want to have the Tonic Water. So I serve it with Sprite, 7Up or something like that. I know that it isn't the healthiest but it tastes great. Cranberry juice is also worth a try with Gin.
Thanks Jamie. Came here looking for Gin and Tonic information and found some nice tips. In particular, rolling the lime. Cooling the glass with the ice (then removing the melted water). And the mint leaf I'll have to try.
This is of course a tried and true and even subtle preparation of a classic long cocktail. I like the addition of the mint sprig too. Even the shape of the glass appeals to me (I had a fantastic G&T served to me in an identical receptacle at a Heston Blumenthal eatery). My own personal perfect G&T involves a descent gin (naturally), Fever Tree's Elderflower Tonic and a slice of kiwi. Utterly divine.
Feever-Tree Tonic is definitely the best. With Bombay, I would use the Mediterranean Tonic instead of the Indian though. Also I wouldn't squeeze the first wedge of lime as the flavor will overwhelm the rest of the botanicals. Just 2 wedges in the glass are enough to enhance the citrus just before even putting your mouth in the glass as Jamie said.
So is Fever Tree's Mediterranean Tonic, which I actually prefer to their standard Indian tonic. Definitely a treat though - it's like $7 for 6 bottles, compared to about $3.99 for a six pack of Schweppes.
Jack Rudy Cocktail Co.'s small batch tonic makes a world of difference. And since you have to mix 30ml of the small batch tonic to 80ml of sparkling water, you can use any light fizzy drink you can think of. I still like mine basic with local sparkling water and lime, but, it's good to know, for those who like a slightly fruitier drink, you can replace the sparkling water with blood orange soda.
When I saw the title, I though "Oh, another one of those where someone thinks that a classic drink needs to be updated." Thanks for proving me wrong. ;)
Gordens is as good as any gin only toffs love telling u it's cheap Shit and they drink craft only toff toff, I've tried a lot of gins craft alike and I'm telling you now a classic London dry is always best, I mean come on gin is a juniper based spirit and there are gins now without the one thing that defines it ffs
I learned to enjoy a nice Gin and Tonic during a hot summer in London. Nothing refreshes you more after a hot and crowded journey on the Tube than a nice gin and tonic. I preferred Plymouth or Tanqueray, but Bombay Sapphire is good, too.
I love this video. Haven't made it any other way since watching it. I was wondering.. Could you make a video where you went through all the popular gins ( Hendricks, Gin Mare, Tanqueray, Citadelle and so on ) and explained how to get the best G&T out of the specific gin ( The proper tonic and garnish )? I would absolutely love that.
when i make my gin and tonics i do both lemon and lime but smaller slices, i with also on occasion add some pineapple sage. It is so light and refreshing on a hot summers day.

nice touch with the use of the ballon glass. alot of people use a collins glass but the ballon shape really helps the aoma of the botanicals collect at the opening of the glass. I think it suits gin perfectly
Jamie Oliver's Drinks Tube you don't get any aroma when you have a lot of ice in your glass. Why are you using Bombay sapphire? by adding fresh fragrant mint you killed this flavourless gin.
I used to use citrus on my G&T too but it was just that once that I tried cucumber instead of citrus I am totally converted! You should try that too Jamie!
I've been making lots of cocktails as of recent and decided to give a bottle of gin a try this week. This summer heat could not have been a better time to test out the G&T. Many thanks for the how-to, I'll be keeping gin in my bar going forward! Cheers!
+Bullit Cake There is a fantastic boutique gin from a Stilbay, a small coastal village in South Africa, called Inverrroche. They have a gin that has infused Rooibos (an evergreen shrub with medicinal properties) in it, giving it an amber colour and unique taste. Sublime and so unique. Worth a try.
Great recipe. For a change we garnish with a twist of grapefruit or pomelo (tropical grapefruit) rind. The zest adds a great flavour and helps cut the sweetness of local tonic water if Fever tree or Schweppes not available.
Mum and dad stay in Barcelona quite a bit and they go to a local place they call the "gin palace" they get a large brandy glass, fill to thew brim with Ice, they put about 4 or 5 wedges of lime in as they fill with ice. They don't really measure the gin, they just pour until half full and then top up with tonic and give a quick stir, best gin they've ever drank apparently, don't measure, just wing it all in :D

I haven't tried Bombay Sapphire yet, but if you can get your hands on a South African Gin called Inverroche your mind will be truly blown. You don't even want to sip it, you just want to hold it up to your mouth so your nose can experience the effervescence. It's almost a supernatural experience. A little suggestion here, dear Oliver...instead of mixing all of the ingredients in the glass already, try using a shaker in which you add the gin, some smashed ice (just a tiny bit), about 10 ml lime juice and some mint leaves, previously smacked. It does, it releases the oils, just smell your hand after rolling a lime or taste it. It will be bitter because of the oil and that's why Oliver squeezes it that way.
