the ting is i dont belive Pedro is gonna be an "evil" antagonist, probably more of a sympathetic. For what the trailer has show i imagine he is more of a general doing horrible things under the orders of terrible leaders, almost a mirror of what Maximus would have being if he fall in line with Comodo instead of againg him

The way I see it, imagine if the first movie followed one of the German barbarians from the opening battle as he was enslaved and forced to be a Gladiator and Maximus was the main antagonist.

@jenisedai In a recent interview she says that Lucilla was married to her adopted uncle at 16 years, so it would not be unheard of that she fell in love with Maximus when he was a young lieutenant, but couldn't marry him because she was the emporers daughter.

We never knew whose son Lucius was in Gladiator. Clearly there'd been a connection between Maximus and his mother, but it was never said it was his son and in a way I don't love this new info, as the heart of Gladiator is Maximus's love for his wife and son. This story didn't need Lucius to be his son.

It's not that difficult. It's implied in the first film Maximus and Lucilla had a fling before he married. It's implied that's his son in the original, that he didn't know about. Luscious was probably sneaked out after the events of gladiator and brought up as a commoner. He knows Lucilla is his mum but doesn't know who his dad was.

    • @ducksauce9187

Maximus is not Lucius Verus father. Because in Ancient Rome, you name your first son after the father. Lucius Verus was co-emperor to Marcus Aerulius and Marcus married off his daughter to Verus they had many daughters that died and one son which would be Lucius but he die when he was a young boy. But in Scott fashion he changed history for the entertainment aspect.

Videos like these really need Rick’s presence so he can give these casuals some context on the history. In any case, I like how Pascal’s monologue coinciding with who I am assuming is the emperor Caracalla saying “you will be forgotten!”
Caracalla invoking Damnatio memoriae on his brother?
The flooding of the colosseum actually happened just not as often in the Flavian amphitheater in Rome itself, but in other specific arenas … also not at that point in the empire when they’re clearly setting this. A few generations after Marcus Aurelius, commodus and septimius Severus and in the reign of Caracalla and geta. That spectacle was called naumachiaw

A Punic wars mega series. The Spanish empire. The Inca. An Aztec empire series. Far more shows and films about the American civil war. China. But especially Rome and Greece. The list goes on and on.
There’s really very little cinema and tv made about Rome especially when you compare the quantity of shows and films with what’s been made about say the Second World War. Trust me, I watch a lot of history cinema so I know the quantity isn’t large.

No love for Dune? Avatar 2? Oppenheimer? Even some new movies based on previously adapted IPs or sequels to older ones have been great movie experiences. Top Gun? Alien Romulus? The Batman?
