Love these two, they don’t talk over dialogue and actually pay attention with intelligently timed takes. So many channels speak during key parts and miss part of the plot, just to complain later. Thank you for not doing that.
Best reaction! You didn't talk above the film like basically all reactors do, losing the overall picture and the meaning of key moments. Losing the depth and meaning of the movie. The movie is quite credible from a historical point of view, Commodus really loved fighting in the arena and it seems that he was killed in a fight with one of his slave gladiators. The graphics, the weapons, the clothes, the military tactics, the context are quite credible, with only a few exceptions: no one in that era would have faced the Roman army face to face, preferring instead guerrilla tactics. Most of the battles would have already ended after the artillery, without ever coming to a direct clash, the technological superiority of the legions was overwhelming. Finally there is the typically American obsession with democracy, Marcus Aurelius would never have thought of bringing back the Republic, Rome had already been for about 500 years, but the Empire was so vast, from Scotland to Syria, and inhabited by about 60 million people that it would have been impossible to manage it with a pure democracy. From the foundation of the empire onwards there was a continuous administrative decentralization with a strong autonomy of the provinces. Great reaction, well done! Obviously I subscribed to the channel 😊😉 Hugs from Rome
Spot on, you can say more with less sometimes and they have perfected this on this channel. Its SOOOOOOOO refreshing to finally got a reaction channel done correctly.
I was 32 when this came out and my father was 57 and he retired that year. I took him out to celebrate with a big dinner, some drinks then we ducked into our nearest theater not knowing this was playing. I never saw my father enjoy a movie more than this one, he absolutely loved it. He's gone now but that was a great memory we got to share because of this movie.
The actor who played Proximo (the Gladiator trainer) was Oliver Reed. He was an extraordinary british actor, with a very interesting, fascinating and atypical life. He also was known for his alcoholism, having some scandals on TV and cinema as a consequence of this. During the filming of Gladiator in 1999, he sadly passed away. He had been sober for months, but one night (during a break from filming the movie) in an Irish pub in Malta (after a bet), he drank three bottles of Jamaican rum, eight bottles of German beer, numerous double whiskeys and challenged five young English sailors of the Royal Navy to arm-wrestling at The Pub bar (which after this incident was called Ollie's Last Pub). His bill, which was never paid, is preserved in a decorative frame in the bar.
"My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the TRUE emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next".
Gladiator is a great classic, it is rare that you have not seen it before, since you were young at the time of the premiere. Mel Gibson's Braveheart, is another great classic of that style and also an Oscar winner, they are like sister movies, in fact sometimes they sell Blu Ray packs with both movies together, so it would be great if they react to it.
Few people know this but, in the first scene with the battle against the Germanic tribe there is no CGI at all, or any other effects and tricks !!...This scene was filmed at an area in England called Bourne Wood, which was meant for deforestation from a wood company...but instead of that, the owners of the forest get paid (much more) from the movie production, to have the forest burned with fireballs for the needs of the movie, instead of cutting the trees down.....So anything you see there is totally real !!!
Marcus Ulpius Traianus and Publius Aelius Hadrianus (both from Hispania, actual Spain), were the best and greatest emperors of the Roman Empire. Marcus Aurelius was a great one, probably the most cultured and profound, having his written testimonies as reliable proof.
I won't dispute Trajan, but I will dispute Hadrian, and no Emperor was greater than the first. Augustus was one of the most remarkable people in history.
Marcus Aurelius was played by the first Dumbledore, yes (Richard Harris). Harris appeared in the first two HP films, but later on died. Therefore, Michael Gambon continued playing Dumbledore in the rest of HP saga. Also, Richard Harris, had many stories of carousing and escapades with Peter O´Toole (and also an incident with the aforementioned Oliver Reed)
went to c in a full pack cinema back in 2000. It was still 1 of the best movie i have ever seen (same as Saving Private Ryan, Titanic and The Last Samurai). The movie that made Russell Crowe a big movie star.
The cinematic and emotional quality of this film clearly shows that a second part is not only unnecessary, but also wrong. I saw the second part and won't give any spoilers. But he is proof that there are films that should be seen for themselves and that Ridley Scott shouldn't make any more films
Great watch guys! This movie was epic. And noticing you both hardly talking just a little ways into it. The emotions were real, including hatred towards Commodus. It's hard not to good cry by the end and it gets worse after each watch. Sorry but 2 doesn't give the same vibe as this. Like they just threw a ton of money and actors into it. Might be just me. Enough said, thanks for the reactions.
You have to see Training Day, probably Denzel's best performance, in fact he won the Oscar for best actor for that movie, for me much better movie than Equalizer, and it's from the same director, Antoine Fuqua.
One of the best movies ever. When Connie Nielsen says "Go to them" I always lose it. Also, she was not aware that Commodus was going to yell "Am I not merciful" the way he did. Surprised her. It was more realistic. Nice reaction. ua-cam.com/video/vZ6P3UpPSGo/v-deo.html
If you loved this movie, I strongly advise you not to watch GLADIATOR II. It was so terrible, an insult to the fans of the first movie. As a civilian that knows nothing about screenwriting would have done a better job putting Gladiator II together. I was literally laughing in the theater of the ridiculousness plot of the movie and how the f***k they spent 300 million dollars in bad CGI. I’m interested to see you guys reaction to the movie… I subscribed to your channel so I get to see how you’ll feel about it.
Save your time on Gladiator 2. It is a big letdown and in a different league than the first. Sadly, It is just another "Swords and Sandals" movie with no depth.
Fabulous reaction. You captured every important relevant bit. The Coloseum was an amazing construction that evolved over the years. There are lots of documentaries about it and this is one. ua-cam.com/video/lxUuufuUEiU/v-deo.htmlsi=gUNjq-3dA00E-Wlb
II is horrible. Stay away from it. This movie is an A+ and II is a D-. Denzel sucks in it. He thinks he's such a great actor that he doesn't need a time/regional accent. He sounds like a modern day NYC cab driver transported back in time. The story, what little there is, is awful, the acting, especially the 2 Emperors, is awful, there is way, WAY, to much bad CGI that it looks like a cheesy B movie you'd see on the SYFY channel. II should never have been made.

ABSOLUTELY!! I said the same thing! Most reactors think that the more they talk, the better they are. NOT SO! They do a great job here 😊

that brought tears to my eyes.
Forget Gladiator 2! Only this one is the real one.

This won Best Picture Oscar for the year 2000. The sequel has big shoes to fill. Enjoyed your reaction, guys.
Thanks! We can't wait

@@tasostountas thats crazy!
Great reaction. Not talking so much and not asking questions like whats gonna happen and who is this instead paying attention
Thanks!
My favorite movie of all time since it came out in 2000. Fantastic reaction guys. ❤
Thanks! It was so damn good! Wasn't expecting it to be THAT amazing

Good reaction! The soldiers who tried to execute Maximus were not his men. They were from the praetorian guard (I.e., the Emperor's personal guards).
Oh, that makes much more sense. Thanks for that!
Praetorians were not his army they were from Rome so no allegiance except to Caesar

This movie was AMAZING in the theater, on the BIG SCREEN 👊💯
Great reaction 👍

It was soooo good!
Top 3 best and favorites movies for me
Best movie ever! Thanks for sharing.
It was soo good! Thanks for watching it with us!
This movie is in the top 3 for me with Braveheart and the patriot. Both with Mel Gibson
@@henkraadmaar4072 We haven't seen those 2 either, might have to check them out!
Fun fact: the battle against the barbarians at the start was filmed in the woods of my hometown: Farnham, England. 👍🏻
And what great fun filming it was!
Gladiator and The Cinderella Man are top tier Russel Crowe movies.
Colosseum was the largest in the world, from 80 - 1908.
Great reaction!!!
Thank you!! 😁

They had to make up for the "queer giraffes" in Gladiator 2, by having two men kissing.
Devinity's dress is perfect for this time period piece.
Nah. More like Bavarian wench.
Looks great though.
