Hell yeah man, love the uncle buck aesthetic! I'd check the filter screen on the oil pump, it could be clogged from sitting for so long. Although I do like your idea of dumping heavier oil in it and driving it until it blows up. That's what I do in all of my old shitboxes, just drive it till it blows up.

Justin let me be the first to say CONGRATULATIONS! You took a car that was junked 30 yrs ago with 127,000 miles and put it back on the road.
You put a much needed smile on my face today.
Can you replace the oil pump to correct the low pressure? I work for a "Black car airport service " and in the mid to late 80s Crown Vics. Had to replace many oil pumps on the 5.0 L. Once they pasted 150 000 mi.
I always used the 93 octane gas in mine. Despite the 87 octane "Recommended" by owners manual. I could always feel a difference.
    Is that what you use?
That being said. Cigarette break for me.

ford 351/400M are known for low oil psi as they age, its due to bearing clearance. if nothing else the engine does most people just live with it and use thicker oil. i since then after the video put in straight 40 with stp oil treatment and the oil psi doubled up.

I am rooting for this car. It reminds me of one of my former daily drivers (that only lasted a few days of daily driving, sadly)
I really disagree with the guys that say "leave it as it is." I recommend putting paint, any paint, over the bare spots. Start where the vinyl roof used to be since that area has to be less perfect than anything else. But nothing would bring up the experience of driving the car like painting the hood nice and shiny.
If you have a vacuum leak, the brake booster and pcv are worth taking a look at. All the vacuum that goes under the hood, too but those have small tubes.
They say the 351/400 M have untapped potential for [adequate] power. And a 460 bolts to their transmissions. I don't know why you would consider a GM engine, even if you have one in stock.

The reason why the Ford 351/400M develop low oil pressure it's because of bearing clearance wear and tear as the motor ages. A better oil pump wouldn't be a perfect fix for that circumstance, thicker oil is usually best to just get by till a complete rebuild happens

Its too bad by 78 the 400 was such a Turd....Thanks to emissions....In 1971 when the 400 came out it had 9:1 Compression (still a 2BBL) but made 260HP (SAE GROSS) thanks to a decent factory cam. - I had one in a 79 F250 SCLB 4x4 that had been completely overhauled, I put 351C-4V (4bbl) Heads and the Matching 4V (4bbl) intake manifold, a stout cam. and she would not only pull down a house...But would propel that 7000lb truck to 110MPH - That was not the only 400 I ever built....but it was one of the most powerful....Most guys with trucks like mine put 460's in them, well I didn't have money for custom 460 motor mounts or headers....But I had a 1970 351C-4V that had been blown up and enough machining skills to make spacer plates to put 351C manifold on 400 Block....And worked at an engine shop where I could work on my own junk after hours.... I bored it .030 and Turned the 400 crank .010/.010 and recon'd the rods, got some new cast "badger" 400 .030 pistons and a gasket set...I think the most expensive items were the Comp Cam....and the Melling High Volume oil pump! - Had 30psi Hot at idle...and 60psi Hot at 2000rpm... I don't think I had $1000 in the whole build. = But she ran as good as some $4000 engines I built for customers.

Check for sloppy timing chain. Oe was nylon over aluminum single row timing set. Making ut even Worse it was 8 degrees retarded at the cam for emmissions. Often the teeth end up in the oil pick up. When doing oil change checks for chunks of irange brown nylon or mits of silvery glitter. You can also watch rotor while turning motor and then stop and go other way and uf it lags replace timing set with 3 key way double row timing set and use the advanced keyway for 30 more hp and ft lbs down low and a little better gas mileage.
Run only on non ethanol gas or it will get horrible fuel economy and have issues running right.
Get rid of emmissions if it stilll has any. Dual exhaust also help and so does better gears. I had a 78 LTD Landau with a 400 and it was decent and very good on gas for a big car.
