I understand the logic behind this car, 99% people in the world don't need more perfomance than this car has. What I really don't understand is why it has to have the S4 badge, what in the actual fuck is the point of those fake exhausts and who thinks that fiddling with touch screens is more safe that using a controller while driving the damn car?
I agree. Our head office recently renewed our fleet of cars for our consultants, but the drivers have complained of a lot of accidents and near misses because they are trying to use the touchscreen while driving. You can adjust a normal dial control or button without taking your eyes off the road, for simple tasks such as using the air conditioning or radio.
I agree with you about the touch screen His point of saying it’s no different to when smartphones went that way doesn’t make sense as your not trying to use a smartphone while driving are you , the mmi controller is so natural to use while driving And doesn’t it make sense to have both so you have a choice ? It’s not like the replaced the area where the controller was with anything special to warrant not having it
In deed this Audi is still ok... the functions most used during driving are still physical buttons (Volume, AC-controlls). The touchscreen then is for the functions you usually use, when stationary and of course offers the benefit of variable button-placement / several layers of button / upgrades ... Today you simply have too much functions in a car to have a separate button for everything. So this middle-ground I'm ok with... what I also don't like is some cars with touch-only.
I believe it is a great idea that it's a diesel.. 700 NT torque means it will put a lot of other cars behind in a real life driving.. That's my dream diesel car..
My biggest problem is that the s4, s6 and S7 all share the same engine, if they wanna use diesle in these s models then fine but they deffinetly should have used the 4 litre tdi that's used in the sq7 in the s6 and S7 to keep there power up compared to this s4 and they would not be to down on power compared to the old petrol s6 and S7
The way how the touchscreen sits there is horrible. At least it could fold into dashboard if don’t want it like that. And option to buy it with petrol engine would be nice🤔
This is just a direct rival for the 335d/340d (it always was, even in petrol form, but more so now). Hard pill for Audi fans and maybe some previous S4 customers to swallow, but on the whole this will be a very savvy move for Audi. Most S4 customers (and any fast estate customers) want effortless, easily accessed performance, 'the' badge and a car that is monumentally easily to live with - the new S4 smashes these targets. Lease buyers will love this.
I agree with you Joe with regards to touch screens, and it’s not an age thing as I am Sebs age! I’ve driven several cars with touch screens and I think it’s pretty dangerous. At the minimum like BMW do, a controller and touch screen should be provided. A touch screen has its place, but when the car is stationary. Seb is a capable driver, but is everyone else who will be fiddling with these screens whilst driving?
Sooo... it’s about as quick as a 335d... I’d still get a used 335d touring over this if I wanted a fast diesel and save literally thousands. The exhausts sound great on this though, I’d love to see how they work.
@@williamoakes664 The exhausts will still be "fake", they likely have a sound resonator. Probably not speakers like has been suggested, but still somewhat "fakery", though that's not to say modern petrols are any less fake these days imo.

Why is there a giant iPad screen mounted to the fascia on a tiny pillar of plastic? Would it not be more aesthetically pleasing, not to mention have greater integrity, to have the touchscreen incorporated into the fascia moulding? This design makes the screen look like an afterthought, and appears to demand attention in the cabin. Some more conventional knobs and dials make adjusting the audio and climate controls a lot easier without having to remove your concentration from the road ahead, yet touchscreens with non-physical buttons seem to be making a precidence?
Thing is BMWs equivlants of the Mercs Audis Jags models are so much cheaper PCP wise with all the discounts so unless your minted it always has to be BM so much cheaper

Been agonising over what to replace my daily Golf R Estate with which has been fantastic. Had narrowed it down to a 3 series touring and one of these. Loved the 3 series but ultimately ordered one of these purely because I got a bigger discount! Hoping I am not disappointed- keep up the great work!
also, we have a solution for reducing emissions that can keep the sound... VAG has been nearly impossible to get through to. We've been trying to reach the for months to let the know we can reduce emissions by 85%+ and consumption by 15%. If you can get us through to VAG, let us know.
That torque is amazing! My V6 petrol has half that, 350nm, and I feel I have plenty of torque in my 2,050 kg sedan! I would still prefer the Audi 3.0 TFSI in the S4 Avant.
This or the Alpina D3 Joe? Really think the S4 is even more compelling as a Diesel. I always felt the S4 was rather dull in comparison to an 340i or C43 to be honest, I feel like the powerful Diesel will suit it better. Also I know the engine is an gem and I definitely like the enhanced sound. Nevertheless it´d be a D3 for me for sure!
Another great review Joe, always feel like I'm sitting shotgun :-) Nice car, but at 60k, I would want all new body panels with no fakery i.e. exhausts! Not keen on the touch screen either, looks like an afterthought, although all the manufacturers seem to be designing their cabins in this way. Bit of a step down haha, but wouldn't mind a review of the new Focus ST petrol. Preferably the estate, as I am contemplating one next year. Reviews of the estate seem few and far between, in fact I haven't seen any of the estate, only the hatch. Muchas gracias
Hello Joe I have a 2020 BMW 1 series on order it is in build in Germany at the moment and i have been told it arrives in Country on the 23 september ? Hope so my other 1 series goes back after a 4 year pcp. So naturally i haven't seen one in the flesh or test drove one ! I am trusting in the fact that i haven't had any issues or worries with the car i have and that BMW will give a quality product. Can you get one earlier to try out ? I trust your knowledge and judgement.

Can't use a mobile in the UK but you can take ya eyes off the road to figure out how to turn heating up. M5 I think

Also screens look dated far far quicker that buttons. Heads up, a decent media system with a mmi and touch buttons for important controls like climate & traction. That’s the perfect interior set up
Final death knell of the S Cars, we have gone from V8 to V6 to diesel. RIP Audi S cars, I will take my V8 S5 out for a blast later on to remember what was. Every blown V6 throughout the B8 to the B9 range have struggled to make any decent sound outside - and yet - this B9.5 ( and the New S6 ) with the same blown V6 suddenly sound like big bore V8s - C'mon. They have bolted on big external speakers to synthesize the fake V8 noise OUTSIDE - someone needs to point that out...completely omitted in this commentary. Never mind the fake exhaust tips, these external speakers are the real cop-out

Don't understand why grey is a thing, boring, huge lack of imagination considering all the cool Audi colours. Only two things should be grey, morgues and battleships.
Heavy car. The truth comes out three quarters of the way through the vidio. A mild hybrid, there's the problem all that extra engineering and battery. What a waste of time and money. Plus the extra co2 in production and rare earth metals used. Deisels are great for big mileages and every day driving with their huge slug of torque. Not everyone who wants an S4 is going to be a big mileage user so a big question hangs over how much trouble the DPF and AdBlue system is going be for low mileage use. Please form an orderly queue at your local BMW dealership.
Ok so Audi does not want to sell S4s anymore. I like the way they look but that's just about it. There is nothing exciting about Diesel motors. Fake exhausts! Terrible ones. They should take the paddles from the steering wheel too because shifting at 4k is, well dull. Ok, it's probably me, or not, most of the comments are negative.

Audi really took a step backwards with the design of the facelift of the A4/S4 in my opinion. The front just looks totally off.

Remap a 335d and you have a nearly new monster for £20000. 370bhp and 700Nm. Good fuel economy and 0-60mph in 3.8s.

Diesel makes it way better for everyday use and cost. 3 diff specs makes everything more simple. Not a fan of removing the mmi controller.

Fed up with diamond cut alloys everywhere now. The worst idea ever. Nightmare to get repaired and limited times they can be. Great video, as always.
