- Finally I can bring you my driving impression of my new B9 Audi S4 Avant. How different is it to my previous B8 S4 ? How has the move from Supercharging to Turbocharging changed the driving charachteristics ? Is it really worth spending an extra £20,000 to get the RS4 ?

Nice to have a review from a normal bloke who’s splashed the cash and really enjoys and appreciates something nice. There are others too but getting bored by the look-at-me flash vlog “it crowd” now.
I am indeed just a normal bloke who works hard and spends his own money. I am very lucky and hope people enjoy joining me for the ride 😜
I got my new s4 in December 17, and what a car it is!!! I love how normal it looks from the outside, but when you put your foot down, it is immense. Love it!!
They are superb all round cars, and SO fast !
S4 is the 'thinking man's' RS4. £15K less to buy, it costs less to insure, double the service interval of an RS4 and yet how often could you really exploit that 1 second quicker to 60 the Rs4 gives you? (Ok maybe every set of traffic lights) but hey .... the S4 is just so easy to live with as a daily
You've nailed it Keith. Don't get me wrong, I'd still love and RS4 but my S4 will give me 85% of the experience 👍

Mine is a 2014 and I’m not planning to change it. It has 55 k miles and I’ll keep it as long as it runs... love the supercharged engine!
Our was 2012 and got to 80K before we decided to change 👍

For a 2012 it was well maintained
I like the sound of it.
What people do not understand is that it is not being able to afford or not car A, B or C. It is all down to personal preference and what actualy suits one better. The more power does not mean more fun or that it is the best for one.
Shumacher daily driver for example was a diesel Fiat Croma but he could have loads of powerful cars as a daily car.
My car that is my pride and joy is a 1995 Fiat Punto 1.2 8v running on LPG. I have spent money on it doing some upgrade just because I wanted to. People tell me that the money I have spent on it, I could have bought another car but what people do not understand is that I do not want or need other car. I love my car and I will not get rid of it for nothing nor for any other car. I have driven many many cars but not even a handful of them gives me the joy that my car does. Man, a 1.2 going the way it goes in the hilly Madeira island...give me lots of joy. It is 24 years old and it goes to MOT and passes with a clean sheet.
Well, this is what I have to say. My personal opinion.

I like you had an Audi S4 from 2015, ex demo from Sheffield Audi. I loved it. I knew a guy at Audi who told my a way to take to 414BHP without affecting warranty. And it also stopped the max speed. I drove a lot in Germany and really most of Europe. One thing to note, Get a driver's mirror for the passenger side. Not expensive, but really good. Buy that in Europe as more standard. If it is raining, and you want air, side skirts are handy, especially if a smoker. Great company in Poland distributes via eBay.

Been to my local dealer today, Oxford Audi. I’m still considering one of these, S5 Sportback also. Turns out I’ve mulled it over too long. No longer available, both S4/5/6 and RS models no longer listed in the wake of WLTP, removed 8 months ago. They’ll be on sale again later in the year but the ‘S’ will be diesel only! Only the RS models will be petrol, if one can afford the price of entry. So that’s a bit of a downer. Keep hold of this Peter, dying breed.
WOW...I knew they weren't making RS models at the moment but hadn't heard the S4 might be diesel only. That is such a bad decision as for me the S4 is the best cat Audi make by some margin !
I'm 60 soon and going to treat myself to an S4 Avant - I am on my second Seat Exeo ST ( Audi A4 B7 Re-Badged ) Great quality - My first went to 225k miles and my current one is on 180k. Love this review and watched your review on the new S4 with the diesel engine! If I can find a lower mileage petrol I would prefer that - budget £30K so i am sure I will find one later this year.

I have a 2001 B5, 6 speed manual that I bought new (I pealed the plastic off the seats before my test drive). I also have a B8, 2014 6 speed manual transmission. The B5 is mint and timeless and the B8 is an awesome machine. I live in a ski town in the Rocky Mountains of the USA and both cars rip through the vast amounts of snow we get. Plus driving either one of these cars through the Rockies is more than enjoyable. I really enjoyed your video and please keep up the good work.

Good review, I have the Saloon version and I totally agree with your comments, the car is ace, seats are absolutely wonderful (I have the Magna Red), and the sound from the exhaust and engine is spot on. I have fitted a K&N panel filter so it breathes a bit better. My previous car was a Golf R Estate, and my S4, is actually better on fuel !! On a trip up north to Blackpool fully loaded with 4 passengers I got over 40mpg, even my commute to work on the tiresome M4 I get 35+ which includes a quick boot passed all the middle land morons.

I have a b9 s4 saloon in white, stunning car, brilliant build,looks,sound,gearbox/engine and that interior,went a bit pervy and got red leather , hope u have set up Audi connect, it's brilliant,no Google maps on your display, it looks fantastic,enjoy your car mate,great channel, if u want a saloon for a comparison or suchlike for a video give us a yell.
To be honest, I tried to set it up and couldn't get it to work so gave up. I really need to try again when I've got time 😂

I was looking forward to this...i actually thought i had missed it. Didnt disappoint Peter...you really let it rip. Ive had my S4 for just over a Month now and still trying to get the seat to my liking...good luck with the mega tech Audi have thrown at the car. By the way i think the car sounds great...loud enough not to totally infuriate the neighbours. Happy motoring...

It actually because of your Audi s4 estate ( in the USA we call them wagons) I’ve started saving to get a Audi A4 allroad. I figure it will make a great dad mobile and will work great for living out in the country like I do. Also winters here can come with a lot of snow.

Basically all I want is an A4 Allroad with an S4 power unit. . . . or an S4 with high wall tires and lifted suspension . I need a smooth ride:)

I had a B9 Avant for nearly 2 years, albeit a 3.0 TDI. It was a really nice car to drive although I wish it had had the Tiptronic gearbox instead of the S-Tronic because it was a little slow and dim at junctions.
The other thing I would have liked was if the navigation screen folded away like the A6 etc, first world problems I know, but would have really finished the cabin off.
The S4 sounds awesome, glad you love it!

I would say the S4 is probably the best car Audi makes. Understated but purposeful, slick at everything and a better /subtle kerb side appeal than the RS cars. It’s like the Golf Gti of the sports saloon/estate world.
Personally I would choose the S4 over the Rs4. I find the RS cars so hit and miss and just a bit Bling over substance.

I have averaged 28.5 MPG over 30K miles v 26.6 from my B8. The B9 is quicker, cheaper UK Road Tax (pre 4/17), much better tech, 19K Service Intervals. I would recommend the Matrix LEDs and B&O 3D Surround Sound as must have options. One of the best features is the subtle styling upgrades compared to an A4 S-Line yet 0-60 in 4.5 secs is achievable. ZF Auto feels quite different in Drive v Sport auto with Manual adding yet another dimension to your favourite B road. The only negative is the standard choice of colours is almost the same as the A4 - missed a trick there Audi.
Sadly the Matrix LEDs and B&O are the two options we don't have on this car and the one I would really like 😥

that really is a top spec s4, digital dashboard is a must, accompanied with the flat bottom steering wheel. And don't get me started on the seats, perfect s4 interior

S4 B9 Saloon owner. Best mate has RS4 Avant. The difference in speed is not that obvious in the RS4. The B9 styling is a bit too conservative though.
I agree, and the wheel arch gap is too big 😜

Your well aware I’m in love with this car just blows me away and it looks fabulous find another car in that price range that looks this good and goes like stink it would be a massive struggle. think a simple pulley upgrade on the B8 takes it to about 400 hp and to less than 5 sec 0-100 km/h . this one did it in 5.3

Watching the back catelogue. cause the RS7 might be going. This video feels so much more "authentic" and "natural" than more recent (2021) videos, where your style has evolved int more "in your face". I like this better, despite the lower production quality

Great video! Glad you're enjoying the S4. Have had mine over a year now coming from a Golf R. Haven't looked back since. Just a heads up, but I spotted on mine recently that it'll sometimes default away from Google Maps during driving, giving the display similar to 3:05. If you go into the Nav menu (I think right click), it'll take you to map options, giving you Google Maps whilst you drive. Not sure if it's to do with how densely populated the surrounding area is and apologies if you already twigged this. Hope it helps and safe driving!

Just sold my RS4 B8 Avant I had it for 12 months and spent a fortune, new discs and pads £2400, 4 tyres as you have to change all 4 at the same time on a Quattro £1200, new front shocks as they were leaking which is a problem on this model £2500 new brake lines x2 at £178.00 each. Oil service £480.
I had fun in her but I cannot justify the expense the next main service was coming up in 3 thousand miles and that is £700 upwards.
Insurance is a lot and I’m 56 with full no claims £650 and car tax is £540.
And take into account the boy racers that fly up your rear to try and push you into doing the unthinkable.
The moral of this story is don’t have a wife or girlfriend unless you have very deep pockets 😉

Bmw has the same issue with the dual clutch in the big torquey m5. Couldn't handle the power so now it uses the zf 8 speed torque converter auto.
Nice vid and beautiful car! Love the blue and super jealous of the wagon...wish we had them in the states. Still kicking a three-pedal B8.5 with sports diff and not sure I will ever part with it.
Gutted for you guys that you can't get the wagon Audis 😥

I just read a comment about Audis not being a drivers car! Stupid BM driver comment!?
Anyway I had an M140i for the past 3 weeks and I can say without question my S3 is a far far far better package! From the quality to the materials to the day to day driving the S3 beats the BM on every level, in fact I was so disappointed with the BMs quality, ride, and feel it really is no contest.
The BM has torque end of! Very useful in a British weather! Lol
Keep your drivers car, your probably the kinda guy that finds his sister sexy and wears drivers gloves! SheemeM

The face camera and POV camera over the should are Sony ActionCams, the 1080HD version. You can get them in 4K too. The camera mounted on the Pano roof, from window shot and external shots are from a GoPro Hero Session. The GoPro image is stunning but the mic isn't as good as the Sony. The Sony mic is good enough to use without a lapel mic too.

Nice video. I drive the Lavant - Harting road frequently. I once had a deer run accross my path in the woods near the Uppark estate before you descend the twist to South Harting. Thought you mioht like to know. It's something to be aware of if you are inclined to push through there. Having said that it happened again last week just east of Hereford on the A4103 in a spot where I had no idea there were any around there. Fully grown beast. Two seconds from goodness knows what?!! Wonder if your S4 engine is the same as the one in the Macan S i'm getting next week - ie 354hp.
Oh yes. You definitely need to have your deer radar on full active track driving down those roads :-)
Lovely car. Makes me want to get an S3/4 next time round. Would be sad to see the 60MPG go though on my 8V. Have you thought about putting a stage 1 remap onto it? Would be even better then!

Petrol Ped ha ha I don’t blame you. I waited until my 3 years were up. I’ve put a revo stage 1 on my 150 8v and it transformed the performance. Def worth the money.

I know it’s an older video but what was the ride like? I have an A3 saloon S-line and it’s harsher than the Golf R was.
Agree with your assessment. I would question whether four large tail pipes are necessary for a 3-litre diesel too. Were they fake?

I have a 2013 S4 Avant and have the Revo stage 1 map which is just awesome. I love it but want to go a little newer. I was thinking 2018 S4 Avant or even maybe SQ5. Have dogs, do some Euro trips, no kids, shall I stick with an S4? I can’t find a remap from Revo but see Racingline /Evolve do a stage 1 map for the B9 with similar but slightly less gains I obtained in the B8 have you looked in to that by chance….great channel by the way 🏎💨👍
The B9 is quick stock. Big difference is obviously Turbo rather than Supercharger. Very competent car. Sure there are maps out there 👍
The more i see Audi reviews the more I am getting to like them still have to drive one as I am quite biased against Audi's

Will look hard at an S4 I think when the V90 goes back in a couple or three months. Strikes me as being the every day car of the moment. Yours is a great colour combo.
Question about the info tech. When you have sat nav on in the instrument cluster, do you have to have it on the touch screen as well or can you have audio on that instead?
On an unrelated note, could you drop the pop sound whenever your contact details flash up on screen? Very irritating old boy.

Love the color combo you went with! But is the S Sport package spec'd differently in the UK? I noticed you do not have the red brake calipers which give it away on the US models.
I think red brake callipers are an option. They certainly are on the RS 👍
@@PetrolPed gotcha I wasn't sure, the S-Sport package on the US models include the red brakes, adaptive suspension and the sport differential. Definitely worth it on an S4. I just tested my sport differential on the track last month. It's fantastic

As my dogs are a bit bigger that Petrol Pup I was wondering about the S6. When does the new one come out and when will you be telling us about it? Then comparison with Merc E AMG wagon? And maybe even a Porsche Cayenne (Turbo 2019)?

Currently running Hankook summer tyres but actually putting winters on today. So far very good.
Yes I did consider an RS3 but as my other car. It is not big enough as out main family car.
Can't help but be put off by the 3d graphic view on your satnav screens though. I'm currently driving an old 3.0tdi quattro a6 & have to say the old MMI screens in mine are terrible. I think it's a mistake for car makers to use features like this that will date so quickly...
I know some people won't like it but you can turn the centre display to something else and change the main display to a screen with less map on it. They really are brilliant to use though.
If you have the nav displayed on one screen, why not have something else displayed on the other? Just wondering. 🤔
You can change the centre screen to other views (phone, radio, media) I just haven't 👍

They really aren't distracting at all. You get used to them very quickly 👍
the origninal s4 came with an inline 5. then went to a v6 with twin turbos :D then v8 then v6 again.,,

S4 never had a 5 cyl engine, that was the predecessor (RS2).

The s4 started as a 5 cylinder. AAN engine code. 2.2 20v
@@misterq3906 Sorry to be all geeky about it, the first S4 was an Audi 100 which became A6/S6. Todays A4/S4 was the Audi 80/90 - so you are right that there was an S4 named car with 5cyl, but it is not the S4 size car we know today.
Watch for the side of the seats because I’ve seen mine come apart say the plastic

The noise is not enhanced by the stereo, just what is coming out of the back of the car 👍
@@PetrolPed you sure I've got an RS6 2014 here and that's all pops and bangs at the back no audio. It just sounds too consitant to be engine. Let me have a dog around.
