Secret histories is one of the hardest aspects to understand so I'm stokerd you're tackling this one. Also, I really love your choice of music for the different sections
Scale is associated with snakes and worms, and has a color much like the seven coils, and it seems to be tied to the idea of restriction (much like the coils of a snake), which also means it would be subverted by knock. Maybe the seven coils was restricting reality from coming apart, keeping it together like a knot binding something.

It’s a very unique game, I’ve literally never played anything quite like it. You very much are a librarian in it, and while it’s more complicated than Cultist Simulator, it’s much easier - there’s no fail state and the overarching mechanic of plate spinning that cultist simulator revolves around is replaced by a very cozy book organising and exploration game
ohh brother! this is so dense I have to watch several times to put my thoughts in order Thanks for making these! I find very enriching to listen to your input. And please keep them coming!
I choose to imagine the Histories as a sort of product of the Rose aspect, like how many Forge rites are supposed to produce items and are legit just an act of craftsmanship. To engage in the Rose part of yourself is to seek a History, how things could have been, to return to something your soul has been to and your flesh hasn't yet. I would also propose an idea: Knock and Edge are two principles that define Histories, through narrowing and expanding of possibilities at varying points, through Edge and Knock respectively. Which is to say, I expect there are 5 principles beyond Edge and Knock that represent such relationships to what is and has been, could be and will be. I also think Scale is one of them, representing a sort of "Base State" that reality and humanity's (and other's) place in it takes. Possible contenders: Winter (what is remembered), Moon (what is hidden). Now if only we could get an Hour like Chandler's opinion on it.
@@astillia6073 What’s worse is that the worms appear to have learned more and more every time they’re seen. By the time of Book of Hours they have learned how to walk around disguised as people - this is one of many reasons some work towards the second dawn
@@astillia6073 I honestly wouldn’t stress about it… the worms aren’t important from a gameplay perspective at all, the same can be said for the vast majority of the lore tbh
I think it is worthy of note that The Mother of Ants has four snakes in her tarot depiction. It might not be that there are five histories because the Colonel and the MoA have taken control of two branches. It could be that they are in control of the five histories we know of. Worms also might have a say in the lack of the other two histories, as they are famous for existing in the courpses of "dead" hours.
Anything is possible. I think that the nature of the encaustum terminalum imply that the Colonel and Mother aren’t as powerful as that, but maybe there is more control over histories aligned more closely to them. Your point about worms is worth looking into in the future I think :)
