  • Join me as I set up a bubbler fountain in my north side garden. This fountain is about 4 years old in my garden. I purchased it from Homestead Gardens in Davidsonville, MD. I'm not exactly sure, but I think it might be from Henri Studio, and is closest to the "Sunflower Patio Bubbler Fountain" that is listed on their website.

My daughters and I dug our goldfish pond by hand, maybe 35 years ago. Its still giving us lots of pleasure with the waterfalls and rock garden . We enjoy the sound and the peaceful fish. Really like your bubbler with the sunflower on the top. I bet birds like it too.

We also put in a goldfish pond with a waterfall! It's so nice to hear the water and feed the fish, some of them even have names, lol. We finished it 8 yrs ago, and most summers 3 to 5 new fish are born in the pond! I especially like the plantings of perennials that come back every year.

I've wanted a bubbler fountain for a long time but where I live you can't find them but I've thought about making one. Watching your video has given me the push to have ago. Water features in large or small gardens is lovely, a must really. I have a pond but we've not had it in use the past few years as the pump doesn't work anymore but I'm hoping this year the pond will be up n running. Everyone n everything has missed the pond. Even the plants in the garden. It is amazing what impact water features have in a garden.

We have a fountain set-up next to our deck and outside our breakfast room windows. It’s lovely to hear the trickling water, and my husband set up solar powered lights that illuminate it at night. Birds bathe in it too. Love your adorable bubbler!

I love your cute little fountain.💖
We live in California zone 8b and are blessed to have both a pond about 6 ft x 10 ft in our garden and a large 12 foot basin with a two tiered fountain in our brick courtyard. Picture an old California mission on a smaller scale and that's exactly what our house looks like. The fountain runs all winter and the pond pump gets turned off for about 3 months in the winter. We cover the pond electrical connections with a fake rock which looks pretty real when surrounded by plants. And the connections rest on a stepping stone under the rock. The fountain connections are hidden by potted plants and one small outdoor extension cord running to the nearby front porch to the plug. We love the sound of the gently falling water and the birds love to bathe in the top tier of the fountain.

Quality of sound...We live 1/2 mile from an airport (luckily we aren't on the main flight path; 1 block from a train track; and there is a cement factory right across the street. Our house is on a busy two-lane highway where the cement trucks and motorcycles travel frequently. Filming outside is quite the challenge. (my UA-cam channel is Mary Born ND where I do gardening videos --I live in Michigan). However, the bright side is that we live on a lake and most of the time I can enjoy the water, birds, and peace that provides. In the summer there is quite a lot of activity but even then there are quiet times. Do love your honest videos. I've learned a lot from watching you. I'm close to 80 and I've learned there are limits to my flexibility, and strength and some positions aren't as easy as they used to be. My "Gardening with Granny" addresses how I'm adapting to these challenges while continuing to enjoy my garden.

    • @HarmonyHillsHomeandGarden

Hoo-boy! You've got some noise!!! We have noise from sirens, traffic on the highway nearby, and neighborhood noises like lawnmowers, delivery trucks, etc. You have to get out pretty far to have quiet, I guess. Re: filming outside - you might consider getting a microphone if you don't have one yet. I use one (when it's working) and it really makes a big difference for the good of my audio.

Love the fountain. You might consider a rubber stepping stone (with hole made in the center to accommodate the cords) to put under your fountain. It would keep it clean in the winter and make leveling easier in the spring. They are really handy.

We also have what I call the bubbler. My amazing husband dug a hole in the ground that we can place a five gallon pail in. Lined the hole with water feature liner. We have a submersible pump in the pail . The hole is covered with a round BbQ rack and the rack is covered with various sizes of Montana River Rock. The wet rock is stunning, rainbow colors. The rock covers the rack, the water bubbles up through the rock and I have the area around it planted with bergenia. which is one of the few evergreen plants that survive our winters. Two years ago my daughter got married in front of this feature when we hosted her micro covid wedding. I love the sound and love to sit near it with a cup of coffee. I would reiderate your caution, don't let the feature run dry or you will burn out your pump. Wishing you and all your viewers a blessed Easter

time to dig out my fountains….one has to be without the bubbler because a mallard hen uses it for a bath, i wondered if she’d return this year….and she’s been coming to the yard for a couple weeks. except, this year we have a 6 month german shorthaired pointer/ border collie mix….very prey driven dog😬so far she just looks at them, but she already innately going on point! so maybe she doesn’t get her bath. last year she’d spend the whole day in on some days!

Fab! Nice and relaxing gurgling sound😻. I'm sure I'll be setting up a gurgler sometime in the future.. meantime, I'm finishing up my small pondless waterfall this Spring and will be enjoying it all season (and more). I like your idea of the remote control and burying the connection. I have to use an extension from the garage and was debating how to do all that! My pump says don't use an extension cord but I have no other solution at this time. Unless I get an electrician to run a line to the shed from the garage. Thanks to your ingeniosity, I now have an answer! 😎Al.

I would love to have a water feature like that but I'm not sure what the upkeep is. Do you need to clean out the fountain through the season or does it stay clean enough with the water movement? Also wondering if you leave it running all the time or turn it off at night? I worry about still water and mosquitoes, but not sure if people typically keep fountains running 24/7 through the season.

    • @HarmonyHillsHomeandGarden

I turn mine on when we are outside, and turn it off at night. I've not noticed any mosquito problems, because we typically run it every day. Not much upkeep - I clean it out once per summer around late July or Early August, but that's about it
