thanks, but I found instead of using ctr+j to create a new layer with the selection, creating a dupe layer AND adding a mask to it more practical since it lets you go back and add/remove anything from the selection. Great tutorial, I learned a lot
Very nice tutorial and helped me a lot. A little feedback. You use a very high resolution and the icons on your monitor are so small that you have to guess what you are clicking.
lol. I had so many comments asking for higher resolution, so I tried it this once. Obviously people didn’t like that, so I went back and have to just smile when people ask for higher resolution
How did you get "Blue Tang" to show up as a source under color matching? I'm selecting the source from the picture the target colour that I want but it's not showing up as an option under the source options. Thanks in advance!
@@photoshopcafe Thank you for your reply! Sorry, I wasn't clear. Yes, I understand that "Blue Tang" was the name of your image. When I click on "Source", the only options that I'm given to choose is either "none" or the current document that I'm working on. The document that I used the marquee tool on to select the colour isn't showing up as an option under "source". I've asked the Adobe forum for help also. Did you do anything special to the Blue Tang fish to make it show up as a source besides selecting the colour with the marquee tool?
Colin with nowhere to ask direct questions I hope this ok & not such a stupid question as it may seem? With a fully updated Photoshop 2023 & fully updated Beta Photoshop 2023 with unique features only in the Beta the simple question is which should I predominantly use & why? It’s certainly a drain swapping between the two! Sorry if this was indeed a stupid question!
You should use the latest shipping version for all your production work. Beta gives you access to unreleased features but they aren't always stable or reliable for your production work.
@@photoshopcafe yes please! I tried to follow the video step by step but I couldn’t make it work especially from the first part. I tried to sample first the colour (my colour had to match an existing colour in the same picture and it was a nail of a person so super small…) and another window came out asking to change the colour I was trying to match…. 😥

I've had problems trying to do this Colin, and thank you for teaching me something new. This is a keeper!

Best color matching tutorial! Thanks Colin.
always learn something new at the old cafe!
Amazing tutorial!
Thanks! I had everything except using the + to select the additional colors. I'm recoloring a pixel project and many of the colors are close together.
Thanks! Something new!

So that's what the Hue blend mode is for. Thank you!

That’s the name of the image. You will see image names under documents

@@Kate-my5uy The 'Blue Tang" image needs to be open in another tab
why is my photoshop not working " Image Statistics
☐ Use Selection in Source to Calculate Colors "
How do I accomplish this with PS Elements 2024, if possible? I've been searching UA-cam and PS tutorials to no avail.
Nice and ez
Colin's favorite blue fish! 😀
