Here I am, looking at buying the HD 560S, and then you review the non S... Wanna get on that real quick?
SO what would you consider the BEST Jelloman headphone regardless of price?
12:27 I had exact same wire on HD518 and it was just fine. I liked 6,3 mm. Exactly what decent quality (stationary)audio equipment doesn't have 6,3 mm? Those are open back so I wont use them outdoor anyway. Those are not mobile headphone by any stretch of a imagination. So relax man wire is just fine.
BTW I briefly considered buying those but I choose AKG K712 Pro instead (same price) .
Since a number of my plastic headphones from different price ranges just fucking broke, i will never ever buy any headphones that has any plastic in its chassis.
Music is work, but I LOVE work.
GET A HAIR CUT YOU HIPPIE
I thought video is work.
Mmx 300 review?
Then I have to decide between tygr and 560s cause I need for mixing and mastering but I want enjoy too, u confused me hahahahah
@@ZReviews but real hippies hate work
Due to health problems (and financial problems), I can’t really spend too much time (and money) on this stuff, but listening to Zeos in the background while doing literally anything is extremely entertaining and occasionally educational.
I hope things get better for you there buddy :C
Are you an audiophile ?
I work listening to Zeos as a podcast, and i love it.
@@matheusjunkes7843 Do you like him ?
@@matheusjunkes7843 same when I'm writing scientific papers sometimes even
DMS "my friend Z reviews"
Z reviews "that other reviewer"
Well maybe some kind of backhanded compliment from Z there in that he wasn't referring to Joshua Valour :-)
looooool
"If you know DMS, and I know DMS, he's an analytical asshole." - Zeos
18:40
Lol
Last time it was asshole so... a step up
I mean some new people might be skeptical or critical of the fact that Zeos associates with other reviewers. So in a sense, it sort of be less biased to not call him directly his friend in he lmao. I mean, this whole audiophile thing is niche but I still kind of anxious of the potential for somebody to criticize those kinds of things in theory. So idk.
17:50 - The Post Tube Test Review Starts Here..
I bought these about a month ago, and my review is: for games, classical, Jazz and other extremely well recorded music they're effing brilliant, but you almost need to just know what songs you can listen to and which ones you can't, I had to toss out 1/2 the songs in my "sound quality playlist" as these cans exposed a LOT of weaknesses. So, yeah, love and hate them too.
So it sounds like they are not good for the metal music genre?
Im searching for headphones in that price range and people telling ne to get the beyerdynamics dt 770 pro but I heard about the treble and beyer typical peak so im fearing headaches
I guess i'm an "analytical" listener then. These sound so much more natural than the 600 series everyone's in love with for some reason i will never understand.
The 600s are amazing on tubes, quite blah on solid-state.
How's the bass in 560s compared to 6xx?
I enjoy neutral/flat sounding headphones because when you listen to amazing mixed audio like Radiohead for example, it’s fucking nuts. A lot of EDM or pop I don’t listen to anyway because they are too simple for my ears. They get stale and boring. So I guess I have more “analytical” ears.
@@jamesbittle469 Whenever I read this sort of thing I wonder. Do you regard HD600/650 as basically mellow, pipe and slippers, with no annoying detail, that are not comfortable with transparent amps i.e. A90, and sound better with even harmonic laden sweet sounding tubes, detail be damned?
I have HD650 and they are fantastic with my non tube RMI ADI2 FS, and with my A90! :-)
Truly enjoy your reviews. I go between you, dms, josh, and bad seed. I am a gamer and love almost all forms of music. I have dt990s, at m50x, he4xx, and now because of you and DMS I have the 560s. All of these headphones have their place for certain applications. I was surprised with the bass response of these and the mid range is clearer than the other headphones I listed. They are not as “fun” as my he4xx. I feel like every pair of new cans I get I want them to dethrone the previous...I think I now realize the rabbit hole I’ve gotten myself into. Thank you Zeos for a detailed approach and laying out great analogies to comprehend. These are my new gaming cans, and certain music cans. The he4xx hold the crown for my everyday music cans.
Compared to the dt990s how much better is it or worse??
@@mickeylickey very different sound. For me the dt990s have much less bass and are definitely sharper on the high end. For gaming, I love the 990s, but for overall usage I think the 560s are better. I did just get the Schiit magni and modi stack...and my he4xx are the only headphone I want to use. They are a completely different headphone now. Makes me wish I had the sundara
@@andrewp6985 Thanks. I do find the 990s a bit too high for me. Even for some games like siege and BF. Sometimes I don't wanna send the volume up. I am using a Schiit Hel right now and it works great so far. I might really consider getting the Sennheiser.
@@mickeylickey from what I watched the pc38x sound like the better gaming headphone...I got my 560s for a music heavy application too. But I did find them just not at fun as my he4xx. My honest review after a few weeks of the 560s is...to me they weren’t worth $200 for what I needed. They are great and I am sure worth every penny. For me I was fine with my 990s for gaming and my he4xx for music and movies.
@@andrewp6985 Hmmm. Well I might just stick to the 990s and try that HE4xx you are going on about. Is that a open back as well??
Just got these yesterday and listening to some Marvin Gaye tracks off of the album "let's get it on" was quite the experience. The instruments just popped and I melted into the music. Have my DAC being delivered tomorrow and can't wait to hook them up with it
The main "problem" with the HD 560s is that it will bring out the "problematic elements" behind a shitty produced song.
Otherwise, you are going to find a connection with this headphone if your are all about finding out whether the song you're listening to is honest with you or not. Almost leaning to acquired taste. But I personally love the staging on these cans. Treat for watching movies also.
I love Sennheiser, they make and package the included headphone cables for my exact usage scenario every time. I'm originally from Europe and so are they, so it's like there is an inherent understanding there between the two of us of each other.
I love flat. With the right amp flat sounds good on everything.
What amp are you using on these?
@@brdnhigh Try the Fiio K5
@@landocal0 Sounds good thank you!
I've bought these headphones because of more excited reviews but point that Z has done seems very relatable, with those it's like a lottery, you may put on your favorite song and it's blooming with details and sounds super clear or your hit "play" and somehow the song which you were listening for hours because of some "it" factor, now lost it as accents now are totally different.
I didnt realize this, till it felt like some songs felt like they were grabbed off of limewire.
> somehow the song which you were listening for hours because of some "it" factor, now lost it as accents now are totally different
Exactly this. Some songs that I used to love make me feel nothing on these headphones. 😂
Was looking forward to this as thinking getting the HD560s next month.
Great quote from zeos" if your a analytical person and you analyse the bottom of subway toilet there is only one thing you will find" 🤣
Realized my headphone journey has been 50% zeos and 50% dms. I want to hear the source like it is! But I also want my headphones to color them so I can melt into a bean bag with a doobie.
Watch Joshua 👌🏻
Just eq or use non neutral amps. You can turn these Bois into anything you want
I agree I can't listen to it for long time but this can be solved in two ways 1) tube amp 2) EQ to remove harshness. I use both and it feels awesome.
With tube amp and eq, they become the best sounding pair of headphones I have ever heard.
That's the beauty of a FLAT headphone. Turn it into whatever the hell you want through extraneous hardware ke eq
@@AssassinsFear Or just listen to the music as it is supposed to sound like.
@@thatchinaboi1They're saying EQ the headphones to a reference response curve (like Harmon or diffuse field).
Logitech packages their cables perfectly. They use the outermost edge of the inner packaging to make a huge loop so there are zero bends.
I've got them. They are exactly as you described them, you ticked every box.
Yeah bro, absolutely true
Pretty sure it should be the HD560S and not HD560 to eliminate ambiguity with the HD 560 Ovation.
His link went to the HD560S
@@marvinwaxler9925 yes but the title and thumbnail
Added to the Title and Link. I will edit the thumbnail when i can.
@@ZReviews alright thanks
@@ZReviews also they are named 560S like the 660S, it’s mesh design is exactly the same as the 660S as well. They clearly had that in mind when they made these.
Best review i've watched in a long time, you make me feel what you're saying which is an intangible value!
It just looks like the other 500 series senns but its wearing a tuxedo
As someone who absolutely indulges in recreational listening, I do also have a slight pickyness to how I want my music to sound. These headphones bring out almost *too much* detail in my music and I really have been enjoying it. The bass shocked me, I didn't think open backs could have more bass than closed back 50mm gaming headphones, while still being controlled.
Try EQing the bass 😉
They are very nice. I got 560s and AKG 361 the same day in the mail. That was not a disappointing day. But they could probably use a little more V shape EQ. A little more brightness wouldn't hurt.
Writing this from heaven, cuz I took a shot every time Z said Analytical.
My HD518s came with the same cable, it's not 10ft for long because it will tangle itself into an inpenetrable knot
Yikes
That naked jelly thing while smoking a doob sounds good, I'll try it tomorrow
I thought I was the only one who did the jello thing. Glad to know there are more of us out there.
I relate to that "17 cups of coffee" line a little too well
Coming from HD595's, the 560s are much more exciting to listen to. Less warmth, but better bass extension and more highs.
I think that sounds just fine. Most audiophiles always go "warmth! warmth!" but I think that you will get too hot eventually from all of warmth. I want a more natural temperature from my music.
I am an HD598 owner, do you think I would have a similar reaction to yours?
You should try to get your hands on the Austrian Audio Hi-X55. A lot of what you said reminded me of these. Very unique listening experience, though.
I tried HI-X55 and own 560s. HI-X55 is much brighter and drier.
I come to your reviews because you make me spit my coffee out.
So basically they tried bringing back the details of the OLD 560 Ovation II headphones. WHich blow away ALL their current models I've tried (all way up to hd 700). Also let me add the PERFECT pairing for the old 560 Ovation II's is a ifi idsd black label with the bass boost switch flipped up/on. Audio PERFECTION.
Not gonna lie Z is basically like Arlo but for audio equipment lmao
The enthusiasm is just infectious.
Try adding a 6db base boost around 50 Hz (low shelf, I just use windows to do it though), adds some spice to the neutrality and makes it a bit more forgiving in my opinion.
Edit: phrasing improved and detail added
most pleasant and accurate headphones I've been using. Comparing to dt770 250, k371, qc32ii, m50x..
That's good to know. i love my 770s but of course, I'm looking out for whatever else is out there that's good.
@@Princeton_James love my dt770 but there are really not flat ..... :( thus I prefer sennheiser
@@ChrisBessy That's good to know. Yes I ended up getting the 560s which I think are awesome. I also got the 58X but I returned those and kept the 560s. I think they were much better than the Jubilee.
@@Princeton_James I have here my dt770 and hd600 ..... you can tell me if your mixes are good in your car with the 560 ? :)
LOL I "I swear on some songs these are it.. but on some other songs, well.. they're some other songs." Is this a jab at his review of the sivga phoenix?
You know Zeos loves his KPH30i when they are right next to him in a review of....basically a mixing headphone. And look like they are in place for him to go back to using once hes done. X3
Hilarious. A new benchmark in reviews. Lovely stuff.
If you use these headphones with an IFI stack they sound really good with 2 X bass buttons. I have the IFI Zen Air Dac and IFI ZEN Air Can together. Makes a fuller sound with the two bass buttons.
I'm at music school. I can't do all my mixing in studios so these the closest thing to the monitors in control rooms so these are literally perfect for me. My btr3 warms them up nicely when I'm not working
I've been debating getting a qudelix 5k or a btr3k with these cans. How's the dac and can the btr3k power these guys well enough?
@@AssassinsFear btr3k has plenty. It plays at unsafe levels if you max it out completely.
These or pc38x for gaming? Zeos pls, every headset you mention has good imaging makes me wonder how they are for gaming.
Would like to know as well.
I got these two cans, and to be honest when I'm playing cod it feels like i can pinpoint enemy footsteps more on 560s rather than pc38x and i am using mayflower arc mk2 for both.
on the otherhand the pc38x is good but sometimes i can't distinguish between front left and front right accurately.. well this is based on my experience, i don't know with the others. hope it helps
Go watch this review, it's a comparison of those two and HE400i only from a competitive fps performance perspective.
ua-cam.com/video/KkYvZ-elO_o/v-deo.html
I use my 560s when playing my guitar at night. That's the only reason I love the cable length.
Great video.
a question, in your opinion which is better the HIFIMAN he400se or the sennheiser hd 560s? I am not sure which one to choose as I have seen that both are excellent and have a similar price. but I would like your personal opinion on which is better.
Nils Lofgren Acoustic live. ""Keith don,t go. "" Wonderful with 560s . Thank very much. 👍
Great video, thanks for the tip on the replacement cable. A.
Heart audio makes cables 1000% nessary
Personally I use headphones for analytical listening and speakers for more relaxed listening just because you can chill easier without a wire.
I use some Logitech Z625 Speakers on my desk most of the time, I have some actual HIFI stuff in another room
Oh and i just got to the part with Tube amps so ill just put an AB switch between a tube amp and a digital one
I like the long cables.
When at the PC, I like the freedom to stand up and grab something from the mini fridge, or lean back and watch a movie.
I don't want to drop something on the floor, lean down, and rip the damn amp off the shelf.
For work, the headphones should be as flat as possible.
For joy, *everyone has different preferences*.
I agree they are somewhat in the middle, which is why I love them.
The HD598 cables used to be thicker than the latter HD599 cables.
This boys said it all....how the fk can he read our mind.
I hook it up with a 40 buck FIIO F1 small DAC and Amp and play some of the soundtrack from the Titanic at max volume, sht took me to another universe.
Especially try the track "Hard to Starboard" on Tidal or whatever you're listening to.
Try to ease the treble if you're using any DAC or Amp that have tone control, because the top end high is very sharp because of how much it create that level of detail, good thing they are not very bright high but more sharp high.
Natural audiophilie room, love it.
This is gonna be exciting!
Ive bought and returned the sennheiser HD 560s TWICE!
Left driver was in both cases more sensible around 8k-13k making the sound image tilt to the left by 5-10%
I've done mono tests, reverse test, reverse stereo image + reverse hp to rule out my ears being sensible to specific frequencies, friend test etc
This is not acceptable! (I didn't pay to get a headache and a deaf ear)
I had the same experience - the left cup was noticeably louder.
Same in my pair. It's actually confirmed, look at the rtings review for HD560s. The right driver's frequency response limps by a lot in the 1k to 3k range. Totally inexcusable.
@@naircat It’s just such a shame, because the headset is so comfortable. The most important thing for me is comfort, and most hi-fi headphones ive tried have been uncomfortable. Do you know any headset, that have the same level of comfort as this one?
So many headphones I want now… Was collecting watches before this. Have the Sennheiser Game One’s, HD58X, and the HD800S, and the SHP9600’s. 👌🏼 Getting into IEM’s next. If I could go back and start again last month, I would have gotten Game One’s, HD650’s, and a Casio Oceanus S100 and throughly enjoyed god tier audio and time keeping, while saving thousands.
I spent nearly $2k on headphones in a month.
I think most of us in this 6xx/4xx range should save for a Sundara or even a 1990/Ananda/Elex. These sidegrades are killing us. $200 here $200 there and you say to yourself damn i could have bought an Ananda.
100% true. The mid fi purgatory
I have both 650 (6xx) and Sundara, and for me Sundara is sidegrade for 650 - too different sound signatures.
These look like a slightly better version of HIFIMAN HE400i for a slightly higher price. Z, are you sure you're not flipping imaging and soundstage?
Love your review lol! How does this compare with hd599 sound quality?
My Sundaras are analytical enough for me. I wanted a softer, more homogenous alternative, so I chose 6xx. Darkvoice will have to wait until next summer (need time for wife to cool down). This review confirmed my choice. Two of the same would be a waste for me.
But your tubes first so you’re committed to getting the Darkvoice. I can recommend the best bang vs buck tubes. You only need a buy a few but they aren’t making them anymore so getting them NOW is better than taking a chance on waiting 6 months to a year. They’re still affordable on eBay.
These are They, Them, There, Thangs... Best review on the net... yes I'm just getting to these... engineer and professor for more than 20 years... please update with binaural test... again, great review.
Just bought these headphones. They fixed the cable thing by the way, it's a threaded adapter from 3.5 to 1/4 now.
Thank you for linking a cable! It has been driving me crazy.
How to describe ur audiophile friend 18:43
I love watching an angry weeb scream at a cable
Z please , I really want to send you something that for me still is special and want to hear your review before I get my hd 560 jubeliee , and I want to hear you preach on something that has been dear to my heart . And I am setting up to get roasted on this big time
I gonna buy this headphone after this video :)). My Fa3s sound warm, smooth, somehow like tube amp, HD560s would balance the sound. I think 2.5 should be easily drive this
Zeos which would you recommend best for listening to anime ost’s and classical music: These (560s), the Jubilees (58x), or the drop senn 38x gaming headphones? I’ll also be using them for gaming but i’m assuming that all of them would be good enough for gaming. Or is there another set of headphones you would recommend that is under $200? I appreciate your enthusiastic reviews and I hope you keep the good work going!
same... what did you get at the end?
Does the HD 560S sound the same as or better than Samson's SR850 Professional Studio Reference Headphones ?
Any recommendations for a 4.4mm balanced cable for the 560s?
What headphones would you pick for enjoyment and analytcal listening? I wm looking at the ath ad500x. I have mm300 gen2 and tygr 300r but the soundstage feels too narrow and not spacious enough for me especially when gaminng too.
bring back green rebel amp dude, that gold thing not the same, not as cool. paint all those walls white, it will make you happier in a basement, much more reflected nice light.
The problem of the headphone, when the music is bad in recording or made, u will notice it. If the music is beautiful made, it's amazing
People go on and on about wires. I am fine. No big deal. I notice OTHER things.
And if you are an analytical person and you listen to "holistic" headphones your reaction is "someone tear away the veil!". Another option is to pick up a book and a glass of wine. Or a tube to obfuscate the sound.(?)
I thrive on detail. And if the record is bad I don't want to listen to it. It's like going to the concert hall and getting a lousy performance, and being told that I needed to be drunk or stoned or with cotton in my ears.
My taste in music is incredibly varied, I want to get good open backs for $200 but I guess these might not be the best options since odds are alot of my music wouldn't be the best for this
actually professional audio mixing environment is exactly why that cable is good. Although, i removed that cable as its too long for me in that exact setting heh. So yeah, weird choice i guess from sennheiser
What I take out of every analysis or work-recommended headphone is
Be afraid of every headphone that can't make poorly produced/mastered songs sound good
But if your headphones make poorly produced/mastered songs sound good, and you use the headphones to produce/master, you won't hear the flaws. An analysis headphone should expose the flaws as much as possible, no?
I think that's counterintuitive, headphones that make poorly produced/mastered songs sound good, are far more likely to give you hearing damage, especially permanent hearing damage... And thus, should be feared.
I wish i knew this earlier, because, i have permanent hearing damage (Mild tinnitus), due to going through a bunch of cheap headphones over the years that made ANYTHING sound good.
Now that i have a Sundara i can HEAR why i got hearing damage from those cheaper headphones... More detail retrieval means you can listen to songs at a lower volume, and still be satisfied... My heapdhones are usually BELOW safe listening volumes nowadays, and it still feels like i'm listening to them loudly enough. That's a luxury i didn't have with cheaper headphones, to get the detail necessary to satisfy my ears, i had to turn the volume up above safe listening levels, and then i forget the time whilst i'm listening to music playing WoW, and... oops, i've listened to unsafe volumes for 5 hours all of a sudden... Welp, RIP my ears...
You know the saying "A sharp knife is a safe knife"? Yeah, that applies to headphones too, "blunt" headphones are dangerous to work with. Doesn't matter if it's for work, or enjoyment, only a PROPER tool, is safe to use.
@@beanexmachina5833 Exactly, but most sound engineers aren't formally educated, nor are they smart... It's one of those professions you can just, pick up, randomly, and start earning money from, with... relatively minimal effort.
I've heard many a flaws in songs on spotify with my Sundara... You don't need to spend an arm and a leg on decent studio equipment, but these sound engineers are stubborn and bigoted. : /
They will insist on "what works", except, it doesn't work at all, they just THINK it works, because it sounds good on THEIR equipment, and they earn money from it, so they ASSUME they've produced and mastered their songs properly... Which is just confirmation bias.
I've been waiting for this
FU Zeos, for once again reaching into my wallet. FU once more for making me buy a tube amp to go with them. Another FU for making me pack away all my other headies because these on tubes are just as good as you say. At least my wishlist is getting smaller. You don't do reviews, you hand out audio roofies.
I bought these... and they are not comfortable.
They clamp like hell, the top part digs into your head with uneven pressure and the pads are not as deep as the 6xx/600 series, no way, they are not the same material because they seem to wear much more easily.
I agree about the songs, some sound great and some sound like you're wondering what the hell is going on? Are these the same headphones?
The cable is just atrocious, I think you can use it to catch a crocodile with it.
Give it time to break in
I just got them today and my first impression was the exact same lots of clamp at the top and very little clamp on the bottom. I slid the extensions a little more than what I thought I needed and they fit like a dream instantly, even pressure all around my ear and can barely tell it's on the top of my head. Probably too late for the OP but anyone else who runs across this comment.
I run mine on a IFI Zen Dac and it is pretty good. I also run a Fidelio x2HD. Honestly the x2 have are more lively but these 560s are smooth. I game a lot and the smooth sound is easier to handle over time. not to say the x2's are bad. I like to get the best value. Outside the loose fit the Philips SHP9500 are amazing for the money. no bass but just so clean.
Did you try these with the base boost button? Should add some warmth to them, i hope.
When I just want to sit back relax and chill to music it's the Z1R but when I want to really listen and pick out all the little details it's the AP2000ti and to some extent the Arya but they can be for both.
so...which one is more pleasant to listen to: hifiman he400i 2020 or these?
I like watching/listening to your videos and have been for awhile! I havent watched the whole video yet, but before I forget, since these headphones are similar in price to the HD6XX, how does it compare?
Hi great video, I found 560s petty good, yes the cable is naff, lot of the other manufacturers have 2 sets of leads a long and short one , like you I ordered a replacement, comfortable but not as comfortable as my hd575 , but I did buy a headband comforter as it didn’t have one . I did get hd560s for £129 , I just seen on drop is now $179. Regards mark

560S measures 99% the same as PC38X and for some reason, he cannot listen to 560S but can on PC38X and he can't believe PC38X are gaming headphones from how good they sound.
i, too, listen to music while covered in green jello
100% agree with zeos here.
they are on amazon now
Basically DMS’s review of the Sivga Phoenix, except for HT560S instead of the Phoenix.
I always buy at best buy if they have it in stock. One day (or god forbid 2 days) is just too long to wait in 2020
I will stay with my Beyerdamics dt990 250ohms. These sound ao good.
They are very accurate once the pads wear in, before that they're fucking terrible and scare people away. Measurements confirm
The Beyerdynamic DT990 are sibilant on most $100 headphone amps but very detailed. They secret to good sound with them is to listen at low levels or to power them on a very good amp. They are one of my favorite headphones.
V shaped sound with which vocals do not even sound normal.
But damn, they are comfortable
@@Hirnlego999 I could be crazy but I think that the vocals sound very natural. Of course, I could be weird, people always say that the HD650s have killer vocals but I've had them for a couple of years and they still seem sort of shouty to me, not that it bothers me
@@jaredferguson2999 Perhaps this is the Sennheiser curve some speak about? The 560s were my first Sennheiser and sadly it's a return for me.
I'm quite pleased with AKG K273Pro but hope for something slightly better. The AKGs are much more neutral. (701 are very bright, returned them too)
I now have K371 on their way.
I still think they actually lack sub bass impact and have a noticeable treble peak that colours percussion to an unnatural degree when trying to mix on them (+ wider Soundstage than my other mixing cans makes positioning far harder than necessary). I'd still recommend HD600 and then some additional headphones for sub bass check only (Ether CX or alternatively Verum One Mk2 or felt modded 58X) if mixing and mastering is your goal, especially for orchestral composition. Ps. Apparently DMS loves to mix on them, so your mileage may vary.
Fortunately those treble peaks (and the slight bump in the mids) can be easily corrected via eq for THE BEST SOUNDING pair of headphones I have ever used. I tuned them to be perfectly flat to human hearing (Fletcher Munson) and I notice the bass still retains it's amazing clarity and speed. Additionally, the soundstage is precise to the source rather than just wide for the sake of being wide. Not to mention, the imaging and clarity remains just as good after eq. The extra benefit of the un-eq'd HD 560s/HD 400 Pro is that it emphasizes just the right frequencies to bring forward all the elements of a mix. So I can now easily switch between perfectly flat frequency response or "analytical".
@@thatchinaboi1 where can i get the eq
I need a longer cable.
Music studio, need wires routed and hidden to stay out of the way of the instruments, mics, etc..etc..
21:43 it might be just my placebo, but i can hear how much harsher the solid state is than the tube.
The solid state is pretty much converting the tree bark into fine paper while cheese grating ur face against them.
Cant say that i will consider buying these seeing that i need a tube amp for em to do what i want them to do, but that was an enlightening experience to what the tube amp does.
I wonder tho, how do they sound in a solid state with artificial sound smoothing going on, might replace the need for a tube amp to sound pleasant? If so, then they might still be an option for me
Loved your review as always. Can you recommend a balanced cable in order to get the most out my zen dac 2?Thank you in advance.
Thank you for the review. Would these be good for classical music or 50's-60's jazz listened to via my iphone? I like to listen while I read at home but I dont want to spend money on an amp/dac or more expensive headphones. I just want to hear the music clearly and accurately. Only for classical and jazz.
These headphones have 120 ohm, and require an amp for clarity and accuracy... They don't need a super fancy amp though, a cheap Schiit stack (Modi+Heresy), or a FiiO K5 Pro (Dac & Amp in 1 unit, combo) will do just fine... Whichever you choose, it's roughly like 200 dollars, same as the headphone in question, basically.
I would recommend the FiiO K5 Pro, for your purposes though, you want clarity and accuracy, and the FiiO has the best sound quality support, up to 32 bit 768kHz...
However, the Schiit stack has twice as much power, so if you're looking to future proof yourself in case you want to get hard-to-drive headphones, the schiit stack will serve you better, it's a beefcake, it can power any headphone without issue, it can also power speakers, small ones, of course... With the schiit stack you also need to buy RCA jumper cables separately, something to keep in mind.
when my SHP9500 died i will get this
i dont care if its really that good or overhyped but i can totally see it as an upgrade for a new 24/7 headphone
shit just hover on the head and you wont notice its there
I'm here way too late, but man... I can't stand these things. It's like at first they kinda trick me into thinking they're good, but then there's something about the soundstage or imaging that just does not gel with my brain. Like I know that technically I should enjoy these, but I just don't. I think they just feel boring to me in every way. Like so much flatness that sure, the music/game audio whatever comes out clean and balanced, but it does nothing for me in any way, good or bad.
I've tried them three different times and I can't stick with them. I actually like the Drop Epos PC38X better than these and they come with a fantastic mic too so it's a no-brainer.
Weirdest headphones I've ever tested out. I wish I liked them because they're a great price usually now, but nah. Too weird.
Sennheiser HD 560S or the Phillips Fidelio X2HR? (Regardless of price)
Would these be a substantial upgrade from the 598 as far as either staging or sound signature?
Regarding staging and soundstage, it should be about the same (which is not a bad thing, the 598 is well regarded for that), since that depends a lot in the housing and the 560S is pretty much a 598 with a different driver.
However, WHAT A DRIVER! Although staging and imaging are not too different from its predecessors, sound quality and sound signature are definitely miles ahead of the 598 and 599 thanks to the new driver.
I'd personally rather a DT880 or even 990 (the 990s highs get incredibly accurate in diffuse field once the pads wear in, before that they're terrible so use discretion and grains of salt and all that) for the price, but if you're set on these they are a much better set in terms of signature. Stage is similar
