You should make a huge oversized scrunchy looking thing that looks like a sphincter muscle that you put over your head, but inside it's a pair of headphones! Maybe you could market it as an accessory for the Sennheiser HE-1's, and charge $10,000. Hell, maybe ship it with deeper pads and design it so that it makes the HE-1's long term comfortable.
I've never tried heroin and never will. I will never try a demo of HE1. Just for the same reason. It will ruin me! One exception tho. Yes to both on my deathbed 😇
Last time I was in Japan I really needed to go take a shit, so I walked into an audio store desperately looking for a toilet. Before I walked in, I saw a poster for the HE-1's in the door and I remarked to my girlfriend how expensive those things where. As I walked in, on a table with two old Japanese men tending to it was the Sennheiser HE-1's. I was shocked, I never thought Id actually see a pair in real life since they were so expensive, the old Japanese men saw my interest and gestured for me to sit down to try them. They started taking them out the box and putting them on my head, they gave me a choice on like 5 albums (one was michael buble?) I put on a Jazz Album. It was Incredible, totally ruined headphones for me and I actually pretty much stopped watching Z's content (The SHP9500 and the MX40s he recommended are my only daily drivers) since nothing could come close to these and I cant afford them. Anyway, I didn't end up shitting myself the poop kind of just reabsorbed into my body. Magical experience. Thankyou Z.

You can make an appointment at Sennheiser store in Berlin and listen to he-1. They let me to listen my own music for like an hour and that was crazy. It was like music was teleported inside my brain. Loved it. If you're an audiophile and visiting Berlin, that's something you should definitely do.
That was such a fun video, we can only hope for Sonova to just not care and let the Sennheiser schooled staff to do their thing. A 5k version would absolutely turn a profit.
From the recent senn video the main holdup is apparently that they don't have the machinary to make the diaphragm any more after the split which is kinda interesting

i've listened them also as a part of Sennheiser promotion event and it was kind of religious experience. all alone in a room for some time to listen all of my favourites... they just came alive. taking a bank loan to get them sounds like a really good idea especiallu after your vid and some cocktails :) great job, Zeus, always have been a fan of yours
Totally agree about an affordable version without the marble and motorized parts. You say Tungsten is the closest you can get, but is it still close using the 32V Fosi V3 and is it dependant on the DAC? I'll be using a V3 & Chord Mojo 2 as DAC to start with. Also, is the Tungsten limited in production numbers? I don't have the spare disposable income to buy them outright at the moment, but I definitely want a set and if they are being made in batches, based on order demand, I should be able to pick up a set in a few months.
I found with testing you need a solid R2R dac,, aka ef600 and then that Tube Hybrid 604 with the new 9.2 revision drivers. It sings. He is making small batches.. Maybe he can pull off 15-20 a month. Maybe. if supplies don't have issues. Which is why it isn't officially out yet. he is dripping it out to get some more capital for the big push after summer.

I'm told the 48V V3 runs the smaller Magnepans anyway, so I'll be investing in a set of my endgame speakers (LRS+) and a servo sub at some point to test this. Also, I reached out to Fosi and asked them to make a set of mono amps based on the successful V3 and they said they might because others have also asked for monos too, so look out for that. Exciting times for hifi enthusiasts. 👍

Maybe I'm a philistine, but I spent an hour with these, at the Sennheiser store, in SF. They had a turntable and the let me plug my LG V20 into the USB input. I listened to LZ II and Miles "Blue" on vinyl and Steely Dan "Aja" and a few others, from my phone. Although it was very good, I did not find the experience to be as transformative as reported. By way of comparison, I have a set of Stax L700 MKII and a KGST, HD650, Argons (RP MKII) and a few others. In my opinion, it was just not that many multiples better then headphones in my collection or that I have heard.
@@soulfulfool if ya want a story, some thieves broke into one of the sennheiser showroom and stole it. They sold it for 6k and someone bought it. Midst of shipping, due to poor packaging it broke and once it was notified to sennheiser they retrieved the unit and upon dms's request sennheiser sent that broken unit to him
My local AV store had one of these. They never sold any or kept any in stock as they'd be ordered on request. The store started to be harrassed after advertising it in their monthly flyer because why would they sell such excessively expensive headphones when there are starving kids in Africa.
The first time I put this in my ears, I look on the side and around me the loudspeakers, and I had the impression that the sound is coming from them !! Shocking open sound experience !!
The market is gearing for a revolution with E-Stats graduating to in home status like the Planar 7-10 years back. If memory serves, the Monolith M1060 was released in 2017 which is my first real planar when I realized I loved them for fun (though not perfect). Most my headphones now are planers. If Sennheiser could make a well rounded E-Stat with bass for the $800 - $1K mark, that pairs well with the topping amp they might be able to front run the common man E-Stat market. If the topping would not work, and since the iFi is like $3.5K, they could devised a system for a few K, it could take the world by storm. Give it a great preamp section for computer audiophiles that drive bookshelf/monitors for nearfield listening.
@@rbsorg I heard them yesterday, after demoing other headphones that every UA-camr raves about for 3 hours and not really getting on with any. I put the Stax on, played 3 seconds of Magnum’s Two Hearts, turned to the dealer and said “that’s the one!” They just sound like music. I don’t think about stuff like “frequency response” and “slam” and “PRaT” and “warmth” while I’m wearing them. They just make songs sound like I imagine them in my head. You can get just the headphones for £550 inc tax, or I think $450 plus tax. If you want the matching energizer (which doesn’t need to be driven off an amp and has its own volume control) that’s $899 plus tax or £1300 Yeah we got shafted on the price in the UK and I’m not even as mad as I probably should be. In hindsight I should’ve probably got a used Stax energizer for cheaper, but the matching system defo sounds like £1300-worth to me and I don’t have to worry about a used amp blowing up the new headphones and being left with no warranty for either (is that copium I smell?) I’ll confess I didn’t research how much the headphones alone cost or how much we’re getting screwed by importers in the UK, I just heard them, heard the price and went “deal” cuz I was so excited. So if you can get the whole thing for $899 plus tax I’d absolutely consider trying a pair.
@@rbsorg for what it’s worth, I played a bit of Dota and Jedi Fallen Order on them earlier and they worked great. EStats aren’t as impractical as many would have you believe once you get over Stax farts.
This was amazing and infuriating..Zeos’s correct ..where’s the product from Sen’s between the 800 series and this 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ ….that being said I’m still rocking 650’s ..and for the price, they’re hard to beat.

I am pretty content with my HD 600 and Fiio E12. I love that combination. But, if Sennheiser could do what you say and make something that would get us 80% of the way to an HE-1 at a fraction of the cost, I might be in.

Yo zeos. You remember the hyperx cloud alphas you reviewed a couple years back? Well they updated it into the Cloud Alpha S and it looks like they fixed your complaints. They have bass ports, they removed the dumb thing in the wire, there is now a usb amp dac with DSP and some absolutely beautiful replacement pads
It's already there: speakers. The sound quality you can get for spending, say, $10,000, on a stereo system will be much better than any headphone, even this one.
can confirm! i USED this at LTX! chose to listen to Pentatonix Hallelujah, It was not broken, i have a picture of it. thank you for having it at LTX. the Sony BVM reference monitor was right behind it as well at LTX, was the ultimate setup experience!

If I was rich, I would get these ;D And other one would be professionally done home theater room so I can watch classic movies I haven't seen in theaters in somewhat format they are supposed to be watched. Zeous, justa heads up there actually used to be a baby Orpheus before the hd800 was their totl headphone bellow original Orpheus, it was called the he 60 and had a battery powered transportable energyzer with it called he70 believe or so. People have described them as something like 99 procent of original Orpheus especially paired with bigger better eneryzers. They used to be 2k back in the day. Befor the releas of hd800 they got discontinued, to make sure we buy hd800.
They just need to release the headphones separately and let us use our own energizers and stuff. The energizer and DAC are probably driving up the price at $50K.
Zeos throws around a lot of numbers for a reduced cost version for the masses. Just to be clear for any non-rich person to afford something like this, it's gotta be well below $10k.
Awesome video Z. The marble is very fixable to the point of not being able to tell. 60k. Nope. Because its amazing just how fast China will copy just the important parts and not the asthetics. After thats done which won't take long it'll be available to a whole lot more people. There is a lot of tech inside but its not new new and most of it is ic, and they do that stuff every day . When it becomes financially feasible, it'll be made available. Your right Z. This type of thing should be available in a much more reasonable platform. The cool guys at Sennheiser would do a deal on these for MBS but what’s going to happen? Some higher up will take them home, possibly gift them (after supergluing) to a mistress or spoilt child. The movie you’re thinking about is ALIEN, fun fact in 4K you can see the red marker shading used in that pretty incredible prop. Just recently I watched Sunshine(2007) and noted a homage to the self destruct nuke on the Nostromo. I bet ALIEN (or Isolation for that matter ) would be an experience with the HE-1!

hi zeos. have you tried the T+a Headphones? i think the HA200 with the solitaire p is a great choice when you can renounce of the fancy tube aktion( its looking suberb btw. :D) but this setup costs one-third of the he-1 do you plan in the future to hear this setup?
I have. They are good but not their price good. Same with their amps. They need to halve the costs to be in our market. They are way too Speaker Audiophile right now.
So many people I've talked to say that the Shang Sr on a proper setup is just wholly better in pretty much every way. Those same people also talk a load of shit about how the internal DAC in the HE-1 is drastically outclassed by the headphones themselves.
You should buy one, disassemble it, understand why they are playing so good and then replicate it for a few thousand dollars. Obviously the sound that is processed is going to be better than real if it's done rignt, the only thing left is to understand how they do it and I doubt that it's something that needs to be very expensive.
I'm thinking you could get that level of sound quality or near it with a much lesser headphone, if your cd playback equipment or headphone amp is off the charts good. There are some amazing headphone amps, some tube, some hybrid. I modify amps, including headphone amps. You wouldn't believe what I transformed an old Bravo Ocean into. It was one of the tiniest miniaturized sounds I ever heard unmodded. No room for a big beefy transformer in ones like that. But some things about it I liked. It now has shed its miniaturized instrument character, and it's sound quality in that way and every other way has at least doubled, and probably more. I now easily prefer this cheap little amp that I got for a song, to my Luxman integrated amp. You would not believe how good something like the Hifiman 400 (2020) can sound, or even the first version of the Audio Technica ATH 50. The best chance to get 80% of that sound quality is to trust that Susvaras and ones like are capable of sounding better than you think they can, if you can improve your cd playback and headphone amp by 3 or 4 grades. That kind of sound quality is possible to do, and it won't cost a small fortune. Even the highest quality streaming or digital playback from files, does not equal the finest cd playback. Even though the numbers would lead you to believe that a certain amount of bits and sampling rate would leave cd playback behind. According to most of the real experts, reel to reel, vinyl and cd playback all still rule for sound quality. Those magical qualities you hear in an expensive headphone like that, can actually be gotten in a different way; thinking out of the box and making an assault on state of the art sound from a different angle. Something like those headphones are just way too expensive to rationally buy, unless you are real wealthy. But THERE ARE other ways!
Please comment on portable use. If i put the amp and a generator in a backpack to run them, are they convenient for walking around the city listening to my HTC Incredible?

We have HE-1's at the local electronics store. They rarely let people to listen to them as well, but most of the time they're just on display.

The market is gearing for a revolution with E-Stats graduating to in home status like the Planar 7-10 years back. If memory serves, the Monolith M1060 was released in 2017 which is my first real planar when I realized I loved them for fun (though not perfect). Most my headphones now are planers.
If Sennheiser could make a well rounded E-Stat with bass for the $800 - $1K mark, that pairs well with the topping amp they might be able to front run the common man E-Stat market. If the topping would not work, and since the iFi is like $3.5K, they could devised a system for a few K, it could take the world by storm. Give it a great preamp section for computer audiophiles that drive bookshelf/monitors for nearfield listening.
Stax SR-X1 is new, is exactly what you describe, and nobody seems all that bothered

@@rbsorg I heard them yesterday, after demoing other headphones that every UA-camr raves about for 3 hours and not really getting on with any. I put the Stax on, played 3 seconds of Magnum’s Two Hearts, turned to the dealer and said “that’s the one!”
They just sound like music. I don’t think about stuff like “frequency response” and “slam” and “PRaT” and “warmth” while I’m wearing them. They just make songs sound like I imagine them in my head.
You can get just the headphones for £550 inc tax, or I think $450 plus tax. If you want the matching energizer (which doesn’t need to be driven off an amp and has its own volume control) that’s $899 plus tax or £1300
Yeah we got shafted on the price in the UK and I’m not even as mad as I probably should be. In hindsight I should’ve probably got a used Stax energizer for cheaper, but the matching system defo sounds like £1300-worth to me and I don’t have to worry about a used amp blowing up the new headphones and being left with no warranty for either (is that copium I smell?) I’ll confess I didn’t research how much the headphones alone cost or how much we’re getting screwed by importers in the UK, I just heard them, heard the price and went “deal” cuz I was so excited. So if you can get the whole thing for $899 plus tax I’d absolutely consider trying a pair.

@@rbsorg for what it’s worth, I played a bit of Dota and Jedi Fallen Order on them earlier and they worked great. EStats aren’t as impractical as many would have you believe once you get over Stax farts.
DMS mentioned a tube on his 6XX was incredible. Id like to know what tube he used or would suggest to bring the most out of the 6XX.

I am pretty content with my HD 600 and Fiio E12. I love that combination. But, if Sennheiser could do what you say and make something that would get us 80% of the way to an HE-1 at a fraction of the cost, I might be in.

Zeous, justa heads up there actually used to be a baby Orpheus before the hd800 was their totl headphone bellow original Orpheus, it was called the he 60 and had a battery powered transportable energyzer with it called he70 believe or so. People have described them as something like 99 procent of original Orpheus especially paired with bigger better eneryzers. They used to be 2k back in the day. Befor the releas of hd800 they got discontinued, to make sure we buy hd800.

The movie you’re thinking about is ALIEN, fun fact in 4K you can see the red marker shading used in that pretty incredible prop. Just recently I watched Sunshine(2007) and noted a homage to the self destruct nuke on the Nostromo. I bet ALIEN (or Isolation for that matter ) would be an experience with the HE-1!

I have. They are good but not their price good. Same with their amps. They need to halve the costs to be in our market. They are way too Speaker Audiophile right now.
So many people I've talked to say that the Shang Sr on a proper setup is just wholly better in pretty much every way. Those same people also talk a load of shit about how the internal DAC in the HE-1 is drastically outclassed by the headphones themselves.
Wish the analog inputs on this one weren't fried..

You should buy one, disassemble it, understand why they are playing so good and then replicate it for a few thousand dollars. Obviously the sound that is processed is going to be better than real if it's done rignt, the only thing left is to understand how they do it and I doubt that it's something that needs to be very expensive.

I'm thinking you could get that level of sound quality or near it with a much lesser headphone, if your cd playback equipment or headphone amp is off the charts good. There are some amazing headphone amps, some tube, some hybrid. I modify amps, including headphone amps. You wouldn't believe what I transformed an old Bravo Ocean into. It was one of the tiniest miniaturized sounds I ever heard unmodded. No room for a big beefy transformer in ones like that. But some things about it I liked. It now has shed its miniaturized instrument character, and it's sound quality in that way and every other way has at least doubled, and probably more. I now easily prefer this cheap little amp that I got for a song, to my Luxman integrated amp. You would not believe how good something like the Hifiman 400 (2020) can sound, or even the first version of the Audio Technica ATH 50. The best chance to get 80% of that sound quality is to trust that Susvaras and ones like are capable of sounding better than you think they can, if you can improve your cd playback and headphone amp by 3 or 4 grades. That kind of sound quality is possible to do, and it won't cost a small fortune. Even the highest quality streaming or digital playback from files, does not equal the finest cd playback. Even though the numbers would lead you to believe that a certain amount of bits and sampling rate would leave cd playback behind. According to most of the real experts, reel to reel, vinyl and cd playback all still rule for sound quality. Those magical qualities you hear in an expensive headphone like that, can actually be gotten in a different way; thinking out of the box and making an assault on state of the art sound from a different angle. Something like those headphones are just way too expensive to rationally buy, unless you are real wealthy. But THERE ARE other ways!
