@@darthwiizius you are aware that Devil may cry is a Capcom IP right? DMC is the only game developed by ninja theory in the series. But platinum games has nothing to do with DMC!
Shame the OLED refresh didn’t include a memory bandwidth boost. I might have bought one, despite already owning a Switch. The screen alone wasn’t reason enough for me.
It actually did. The mariko revisions (thus the oled) can go to 1996 mhz extremely easily without any tinkering, consequence, damage. You can reach those on erista (v1) but its going to be dangerous and complicated, while there is absolutely no negative impact on the oled and its all automatic if you enable the oc suite with the loader. In fact, its enabled at all time with the oc suite in docked mode without even chosing it as it has no negative impact on the hardware. 1998mhz by itself removed almost all lag in metroid dread that you could see in some transitions, and just upping the gpu one step (844mhz) removes the few that persisted, making it free 99.9% of the time of stutters and lag, with a locked 60fps at all times. I didnt play bayonetta yet, but looking at the performance on this video, im almost positive you can reach a constant 60fps with few to no drops on a Mariko switch very easily, and its not going to be the case on the v1 erista (hence why he says overclocking helps but doesnt fix the issue for him) You can even go higher with the ram but then you enter the "not perfectly safe" territory, it may provoke instability like crashes or glitches and you need to start tinkering .
I have both the 1.1 improved battery and the OLED, and it runs sooo much better on the oled, it isn't a very significant or noticeable difference, but you can tell something feels "off" on the 1.1
An even easier way of testing the memory bandwidth theory is to reduce the resolution in handheld mode to improve framerate. There’s a guy on UA-cam who has a channel which shows almost every Switch game running at a locked 60fps by running the games at 480p in handheld mode with the same over clock settings that MVG uses. It’s a great way to enjoy the games in the here and now.
Digital Foundry did something with Saints Row. Portable mode drops the Memory speed, but if you clock it back to the same memory speed as docked mode, it got a massive boost! It's interesting to see because just better memory alone will make a big difference in the Switch 2 so imagine when all 3 are improved.
When Nintendo releases a console with Nintendo Switch backwards compatibility, the biggest thing they should bring is more memory bandwidth, I think that alone would boost the performance of 90% of the library (I suspect that the times when Salmon Run Next Wave starts dropping frames has everything to do with memory clocks as well)
It's running on a SoC from 2015. Basically same performance of a smart phone from 2015-2016....it's sorcery the things they already can do with it imo.
@@tabernaclejones6115 It's probably closer to a tablet of the time, but yea, it's pulling way above it's weight. However, the memory bandwidth for the polygon fill rate are probably worse than that of the 3DS, which is rather sad.
More power would of course be welcome. But the Switch, unlike PCs, is a fixed hardware target. And this game, as you pointed out, has been in development for 5 years. Platinum knew full well what their constraints were. What I've realized is that it doesn't matter how powerful hardware gets; game studios will too often push for the best look on screen grabs, then worry about performance later. Look at Gotham Knights. Digital Foundry found that even on a top-end 4090 system, it couldn't maintain 60 fps consistently. If and when we get a revised Switch, the cycle will repeat. Games eventually will look better, and bog down just the same.
It wll be intersting to see how a first party The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom BOTW2 performs and if N brings any new tricks to the party, I personally think that game will be the switch's swansong before a new HW release.
It would be great if the new switch/next Nintendo console be backwards compatible but also improve performance of older titles much as ps5 and Xbox series do for the previous Gen games. I’ve really enjoyed playing my older ps4 games on the 5 with higher frame rates so it would be nice to revisit the switch library in similar fashion. 4k 60 BoTW yes please !
Backwards compatibility is basically guaranteed, given Nintendo's history with it, and how _both_ Sony and Microsoft have it in their newest systems. Performance enhancements might be mixed, though. If it just simulates an overclock, then that'll be nice, but I think developers should also have the option to update older games to increase resolution and framerate targets, maybe add back in things like higher resolution textures and visual effects that were removed or simplified. *Do not* expect 4K, though. The Switch can barely do 1080p (!) so there's no way in hell that the next Nintendo console will be able to run games in 4K, maybe outside of a few 2D games or less demanding titles.
It be guaranteed the Switch 2 would be backwards compatible and I do reckon it be up to the developer to patch there games to use the switch 2 more power.
The render does not use main memory itself, but the L2 cache. Nvidia supports the Tiled Cache method on Maxwell GPUs so that Binner rasterization locks MRT components before they land in main memory. However some developers when they want to enclose more steps let some leak fall into main memory as a scratch, occlusion and depht steps are large enough to simply not be cached which is when more of the system may be required. The new system needs more cache close to the computational unit and not really more external bandwidth, the effectiveness of Tegra's 256KB GM20b gives it 16796k states which almost always limits the target to sub 1080p. Bayonetta 3 uses a doubled resolution due to temporal reconstruction as the CPU itself is also a bottleneck. The Cortex A57 at 1.03GHz lags frametime in any collective scene, and any endbuffers are affected later. That's why it's not worth simply lowering the resolution, which will decrease the load on bandwidth.
@@Blazer-bn9ev Yes this really is complex, but essentially it boils down to not having enough resources close to the computation unit. This is because RAM is much more exppensive to access in terms of resources, versus the L2 cache OP is mentioning here. L2 cache is closer to the CPU/GPU when processing is being done and thus limits the resource usage in this case. The rest of the post focuses on the rendering stage itself which doesn't benefit from the 256KB cache the GM20b GPU gives. It is simply too small to have the entire rendering stage in the L2 in 720p or greater. All in all, the question falls to either optimizing the game enough so that most of the rendering is done in L2 cache limits or upgrading the hardware in order to have a more powerful CPU/GPU with increased memory capacity and bandwidth.
@@locusf2 Thanks. I think I get it now to some extent. Basically the smallest chunk of info that can be parsed by the Switch is smaller than the chunk of data that needs to be processed each time for the game to run smoothly.
@@Blazer-bn9ev Something else to add.. Cache is one of the largest bottlenecks in modern Microprocessors as a whole. More L2 (Level 2) or L3 (Level 3) Cache typically can result in a MASSIVE performance increase for gaming due to how much stuff the CPU processes and is able to cache. This can be seen in the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D performance uplift just from receiving more L3 Cache. L1/L2/L3 Caches are located typically directly on the die (next to all of the cores) for immediate access. This gives it insanely low latency (time to transfer) and very high transfer speeds.
I've recently been playing Xenoblade 3 and even monolithsoft is having a difficult time fulfilling their ambitions on the console. I mean the game is awesome but traversing the world frame rate stutters are all too common and yet again I guarantee its from the memory problems with just how massive the environments are with that game. Hopefully within the next year we hear about a successor to the switch with as you said more memory but also enough performance increase to justify it being a new generation of console.
I'm totally with you on the Switch revision debacle. I think we need to be real here. IF, and it's a big IF, they were to do it, what I would expect is for the console to deliver what it has promised, i.e: 1080p 60 fps docked, 720p 60fps handheld. The problems is that it struggles to deliver even that. There's no way we're going to have a 4K Switch, especially with it's tiny form factor. If we're lucky enough we can aim for a 1440p dock upscale.
It felt like with Astral Chain, they cut their losses & aimed for 30fps because they would have seen similar performance to this. But this late in the console cycle, perhaps Nintendo allows games to run like this because the next Switch will be backwards compatible & marketing can highlight that it's how these games were truly meant to be played.
Great video, but you're not really up to date on Switch overclocking. CPU and GPU can be easily pushed higher than your numbers. At least on the v2 Mariko model - the OLED model has a smaller cooler and therefore might run into thermal limits earlier. Also, RAM can be safely overclocked to 1996.8 MHz. Memory bandwidth is indeed a major bottleneck for the Switch.
How do you get it past the standard clocks? Isn't it unsafe? I already do the overclock like the one in video, what can I search to inform myself on the one you are mentioning?
That's the first time I see someone else acknowledging the smaller cooling system of Switch OLED, Switch V2 is indeed the most well cooled Switch because of using the 16nm chip and the original cooling made for the 20nm chip
I remember hearing the team that ported Witcher 3 talking about the memory bandwidth issue when the port was released, it's definitely an issue Nintendo has to address in the next generation of hybrid console.
Hi. Thank you for the video! There is a mod called 4efir or Chefir that allows you to overclock above 1600. It's pretty complex but you can try it out.
I feel bad for anyone who hasn't been taking advantage of a hacked switch for the past 5 years. I've had mine permanently OC'd since sys-clk released and no problems at all, just better performance and better looking games due to maintaining higher dynamic resolutions more consistently.
I'm somewhat convinced the reason they left the framerate unlocked like this is maybe because a Switch 2 or something is likely going to come next year and I won't be surprised if there is something like Smart Delivery for the next Nintendo console.
@@captaincrunch1707 Hey, then at least it might beat the second model steamdeck to the market!,,, not gonna keep my hopes up on the performance though.
picked up on friday between classes, have to hold off until after my midterms... but I'm glad you gave an impression about perceived experience in light of frame rate issues. the fast-paced nature game is less likely to bother me with lower frames and that's all I care about for actually playing Bayo3.
aside from the unstable performance what really irks me is the low resolution, the fights with giant monsters with the dithering effect they added look really really blurry, sometimes its even hard to make out whats going on. this is something that has bothered me with other switch games as well, smt v and xenoblade 3 come to mind, sub-hd resolutions in 2022 is just unacceptable
I just started overclocking my switch yesterday using sysclk solely for the purpose of running Brutal doom smoother on it. I also use retroarchs overclock for dreamcast emulation on the switch which is vital for performance. I do tend to let switch games run natively though, regardless of their frame dips. Hoping Nintendo keeps the hybrid console and just improves the hardware too.
@@nothanksfools I've never had a heat problem in docked or handheld personally. I only use overclock for emulation, homebrew, ports etc but because I haven't had any issues I would consider using it for switch games too as I've heard it improves loading times and overall performance of some titles like Breath of the Wild. The only issue I had that I noticed is that my switch used to only drop 1 or 2 % overnight when left on standby. Once I started using overclocking regularly (to the max) my switch would lose about 6% overnight instead. But that is probably due to the battery's life as its gen 1. And that's an easy fix placement job that anyone can do. That's the only issue I've had and that coincided with my regular overclocking for months. Heat isn't an issue for me. But I have heard otherwise for some. If you Google 'switch overclocking guide' and read the reddit and gba temp opinions and advice you'll get a good idea of others experience. Ultimately, it's random. I'd say I'm lucky.
@@blacksunshine7485 thanks for the info. My switch already gets up to 62c when playing games like Spyro or Bayonetta 3. I'll be doing a thermal paste change soon. ARM based CPUs and GPUs have come a long long way since Tegra X1. Tegra X1 is a chip from 2015, 7 years old at this point. If the next console from Nintendo is as powerful as A14 chips from Apple (powering iPhone 12), that will still be a massive massive upgrade to what we now. There will also be DLSS support and an much increased memory bandwidth due to adapting LPDDR5 RAM. I just hope they keep backwards compatibility so even Switch games get the benefit of a beefed up console.
Or Nintendo can just contact AMD and get a custom Ryzen 7000 APU with RDNA2 graphics. Just look at Steam Deck and how great it is as a handheld system.
@@kishaloyb.7937 I'm not convinced Nintendo will do that, whilst I cannot say for sure I'm sure Nintendo don't take a loss on the consoles due to the aging hardware, where as Valve DEFO take a loss on the Steam Deck. I really hope the next system is backwards compatible. It would be a huge help for the Switch's library. Some games just need that little more juice in order to reach their caps.
Nintendo doesn't want to do the same mistakes it did with Wii U when moving to new hardware, therefore Switch's successor should definitely be backwards compatible.

@@stormyandcold Steam Deck User right here. I Dont think the PS4 is really stronger than the Deck in anyway. I'm glad we're starting the discussion about the future of the Switch and its hardware. It'll continue to fly off store shelves but I would like to see a new model with better performance. Nintendo hasn't always been about graphics or high resolutions but performance, especially, for titles like Bayonetta; we need a bit more to keep up with performance standards of tomorrow.
Or just a straight up successor. Since Nvidia haven't shown anything with a brand new mobile chip, it's no wonder there hasn't been news for a proper upgrade.
So basically Platinum Games did and excellent job optimizing Bayo 3. I am happy with the game, I think its excellent and the performance doesn't bother me at all. :D Thanks for the video!
Nintendo Switch needs a revision Asap, I dont mean Series X o Ps5 level but at least something like an XBOX one X. Was playing Bayo 3 and is a good game but on graphics and performance feels like it still on the xbox 360, like is running on a 15+ year tech when a game like that deserve better. Also the switch dashboard interface is so simple, the wii u had a way better interface. Hope that Nintendo annouce something soon.
I only use my switch for 2D indie titles like Isaac, for instance. I have a gaming PC which runs all the 3D titles at 4K 60. But it makes sense for them to put out a 'New' Switch, with boosted performances, much like the 'New' 3DS.
Something to mention.. The Tegra SoC used in the Switch was underclocked heavily by Nintendo despite on most systems the temperatures being well within specification.
the crappy part tho is that nor the battery nor the board is made to withstand the power draw that restoring default x1 clocks would make. Aula (oled) is much better in that regard, but you are still limited by this. It sucks cause you can make it more than 2 times more powerful than stock clocks in theory, but there may be damage to some components
I'm going to grab it but will probably just end up dumping the game on my modded Switch and emulate it on PC. Nintendo need to deliver a Switch successor that's at least twice as powerful and make it backwards compatible so we can play all these great games the Switch library has at higher fps/resolutions imo.
@@cnk9822 Nah Switch emulation on the deck has issues, emulation in general does have some issues but the more demanding games can struggle on the deck. I mainly use the Switch for jrpg's and that sort of thing. Like Persona 5 Royal for example would be perfect on the OLED Switch. That's one thing that's kept me from getting a Deck, hoping they may release an OLED variant.
If the Tegra X1 in Nintendo Switch is indeed the stock Tegra X1 without any modifications, also found in the NVIDIA Shield, then is "overclocking" really the correct term, since the stock speeds of the Tegra X1 are 2.2GHz CPU and 1GHz GPU?
Also, Nintendo could easily swap the memory for a much faster & larger one (8 GB like the dev kit) without needing any other change to the APU, I don't know what is preventing them from doing that. The fact they can use faster memory and there's a lot of room left in the X1 to reach its 2.2 GHz , just by improving the cooling solution
@@timsmyth7942 I believe either Spawnwave or Digital Foundry had videos on thermals of the "overclocked" original Switch and the result was a minor increase in temps, which would be even less on the newer Mariko Switch. Besided, battery life is not a concern in docked mode, so I don't understand why Nintendo doesn't unlock the clocks when docked.
Honestly I've barely noticed the performance issues playing on handheld but a switch revision with a stronger CPU/GPU would be very much welcome. Though as I prefer a device I can control myself these days it would be nice when revisiting struggling Switch games. However I'd hope they don't lock out older games from using that extra power like they did with the New 3DS.
I'm currently playing through age of Calamity for the first time on yuzu despite having bought it two years ago. I'd been checking every week for a 60fps patch and finally found one. It plays so much better in yuzu, it's embarrassing.

Hello, I just wanted to take the time out of my day and comment on your recent video to tell you that I appreciate your videos and your contribution to video game preservation and gaming in general. You are doing gamers around the world a great service.
What do you mean games are "starting" to struggle? It's been like that from the beginning. Both Botw and Odyssey have significant performance problems at times, and those are some of most polished games on the handheld.

@@videosalpaso5323 100% but it sucks playing a great game that is held back by terrible hardware. If Nintendo made a switch pro and uodated this game I would be happy
I usually always play the more demanding Switch games or ones with distracting framerates on the highest clock speed using sys-clock overlay and for the longest time, it never really seem to pose any sort of threat to my Switch. At least so far it hasn't. Yes batteries do drain a slightly bit faster, but as a growing adult who hasn't had any time to play games a lot these days, it's a fine trade off. Even so, while I don't recommend for others to do the same (as it may slightly or significantly reduce your Switch's lifespan), it's not exactly as scary of a thing to do as others on the modding community make it sound like. So it's a fine mod to experiment with. Just do it at your own discretion though.
I'm really not sure wether I should get it for Switch or wait till the emulation is good on pc. It's also important to mention that the switch can only hit 50-60FPS because the resolution is only 810p.
Doesn't it already emulate at 1080 60? What are you waiting on? SMT V was running in 60 fps 4k like day of launch there ain't really a "wait" much these days.
Absolutely loving Bayonetta 3, it is a masterclass of action game design. Feels like the perfect blend of old school and modern action games. My biggest issue is that I absolutely hate playing games on the switch. If it wasnt for Bayonetta 3, I would have sold the Switch a long time ago. It feels so dated and the console can barely hold itself together.
The console has been struggling since its launch. From the very beginning we had games like Xenoblade Chronicles 2 that were super blurry and dropped a ton of frames. SMTV was a pain to play this year, and now Bayonetta 3 also suffers. Hyrule Warriors was another example, as you noted. I don't understand why developers, when they make a Switch exclusive/lead game, don't target much more reasonable visuals in par with what the console do. Because of this, I only use the console for smaller games in scale, in order to get at least 720p and a smooth framerate...
The good thing is that if you're set on playing and not seeing a fps counter, you have no problem enjoying the game, at all, I know because I've been playing it, but anyway I think a switch revision is on the way sooner than later at this point.
Depends on the person. Some people are really sensitive to framerate drops like myself and it can be really jarring/take you out the experience. Can’t even enjoy blood borne cause of the improper frame pacing. Then there’s people that can’t see the difference between 30 and 60
@@Cruxis_Angel I also play on my pc so I get it, i can perfectly see what is 30, 60 or above 120 fps, but it's also a thing of knowing what to expect from your hardware, also the frame drops are not like stutter bad, it's always responsive.
Without Nintendo this series would have been shelved after Bayonetta 1. The game tanked on PS3 and SEGA were not interested in doing a 2nd game, unless Sony or Xbox paid for development. Go whine at PS and Xbox
They don't own the IP. Sega does, Nintendo finances, produces, and publishes Bayonetta 2 and 3, but they don't own it. But their financial support made it an exclusive.

Settings in this video is not overclocking. It just unlocking full performance which was restricted by Nintendo by battery/noise reasons and cannot hurt you system. However true overclocking exist on switch and called 4ifir. You can overclock your switch up to 2397 MHz GPU 1536 MHz RAM 2131 MHz, which eliminates any performance dips almost in every game
You can actually hit 60fps on bayonetta 3 pretty much all the time on a switch so this video needs revisiting again. A mild overclock of GPU and CPU couples with the memory overclock to 2000mhz pretty much locks this game to 60fps. Works totally fine on my switch.
The problem is that Nintendo's "withered technology" philosophy will always lead to their consoles having performance issues compared to other platforms in the later years of the console generation. Even if Nintendo announced the Switch's successor tomorrow, it would still be a whole generation behind in hardware, as we wouldn't likely see anything more powerful than the PS4/Xbone. I think that the best solution that would still follow Nintendo's philosophy is that a "Switch Pro" needs to be a non-handheld model, sitting at the opposite end of the seesaw from the Switch Lite. If the Switch Lite is the budget model that saves money by removing the dock hardware out of the equation, the Switch Pro should be the premium model that subsidizes a portion of the more powerful (yet still compatible) hardware costs by forgoing the need for a screen or battery altogether. The majority of people that would buy such a variant are people who primarily play in docked mode anyway. Perfect what Sony started with PS3/Vita crossplay for ease of transferring save data between consoles and you've pretty much guaranteed to sell a Lite and a Pro to the same person.
This always makes me think that if Nintendo wanted to, they could easily launch a "Switch Pro" that would be nothing more than a Switch with the same Tegra X1 but capable of using its maximum potential (and maybe with 6 GB of RAM with more memory band). But at this point I think it probably won't happen and that they won't release a successor for Switch until 2024 or 2025.
I warned people of how underwhelming Switches would be, and I said the same thing about half of the specs for the PS5 and new Xbox systems having 16 gigs of RAM and other things slightly below where they should be. Good to know more folks are modding the switches though. I Am still waiting for a "Switch Pro", but all we got was that OLED thing T
Too bad the switch screen doesn't have a 120hz display or the ability to manually adjust the refresh like the steam deck. I feel like this would be able to hit a locked 40fps easily. Something for Nintendo to consider for the successor to the switch. I've been playing my steam deck on 40fps, not only does it save on battery life, it feels great, not quite 60 but, noticeably better than 30.

The visuals sometimes looks like a ps2 game. Even having 5 years to make a great game, I think it could be a lot better. Unfortunately Nintendo Switch is struggling to run some games and we'll never get a real powerful console coming from them.
They really need to release better hardware, or ideally do what Microsoft/Sony have been doing for a while now and release their games on PC via a Nintendo launcher (or Steam). That'd be amazing.
@@nodzee97 Switch 2. Switch Pro. Doesn't matter what it's called. I just want a hardware refresh of some kind. And if it's a new generation, then I'd want backwards compatibility.
THAT'S the framerate graph people are complaining about? I expected to see huge jagged dips or obscene stutters or something. The game runs smooth as hell, it doesn't need a fix. They should have just locked the game to 30fps so the performance elitists could bugger off back to their melting 4090s.
At this point I'm just deeply hopeful the Switch's full successor is backwards compatible and gives its games the same treatment something like the PS5 does for PS4 games. I'm not even a particularly huge stickler for framerates or image quality, but to this day I think the fact that you can play almost the entire PS4 library at its programmed peak performance is by far the PS5's best selling point, much much moreso than its original software/the games put out since launch certainly. There's some games I'm really excited to revisit sometime on Switch, games that have stuck with me and which I loved even with the compromises inherent to the platform (e.g. Daemon X Machina, Age of Calamity, Nights of Azure 2), but waiting it out to see if someday I'll get to see them fully sing keeps them on the backburner for now, for me.

Very good analysis, especially with the deeper investigation into performance! Platinum Games really pushed the envelope while trying to deliver quality, graphics, and performance on the Switch.
If you give consumers the better system and keep the dev kits as they are then I think you’ll get the smoother performance you’re after. For a while I even thought that dev kits were more powerful than consumer units simply because, it felt like, devs were only able to fix issues after a game came out and they could finally see it running on the real world version of the system they were developing for. For this game we know it wasn’t a case of, we’re up against a deadline and just have to push the game out.
I assume you have an SX Core/HWFly equipped Mariko Switch. Try the Switch OC Suite, it can oc the DRAM on Mariko to 1996mhz and CPU to 1963mhz. You might be able to achieve 60fps with those two OC.

I didnt play bayonetta yet, but looking at the performance on this video, im almost positive you can reach a constant 60fps with few to no drops on a Mariko switch very easily, and its not going to be the case on the v1 erista (hence why he says overclocking helps but doesnt fix the issue for him)
You can even go higher with the ram but then you enter the "not perfectly safe" territory, it may provoke instability like crashes or glitches and you need to start tinkering .
I have both the 1.1 improved battery and the OLED, and it runs sooo much better on the oled, it isn't a very significant or noticeable difference, but you can tell something feels "off" on the 1.1
Buy an oled
Yeah it was great for me as I didn't own a Switch yet, but I agree that it's not a big enough upgrade if you already had one.
@@KC-ro9ro Hi, can i overclock switch with INSTINCT V6?
Name of the channel?
Interesting. ill have to look for it
You'd just need to connect it to a 480p CRT and you're good to go 🤣
can you even say "enjoy" and "480p" in the same sentence without being sarcastic? I know, I can't
We're talking about Nintendo here. Who knows if they'll bring backwards compatibility.
dont worry , they gonna make the next switch as powerfull as a mid range pc with ray tracing , dlss and all.
@@SogonD.Zunatsu Pretty certain it’ll have backwards compatibility, they’d be shooting themselves in the foot if they didn’t.
PREACH
It wll be intersting to see how a first party The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom BOTW2 performs and if N brings any new tricks to the party, I personally think that game will be the switch's swansong before a new HW release.
My thoughts exactly, we can only hope it runs well enough
New hardware would be great for even botw 1
I bet they'll use FSR, it's been doing wonders on Splatoon 3
@@CinnamonOwO what ? Really ?
idk why but something in my gut tells me that the switch pro is releasing on the same day as Tears of the King
It's kind of sad, because BOTW was already a very technically complex game that pushed the hardware to its limits. And it was a launch title...
That would be amazing. I would replay all my switch games if that were the case
The Switch can barely do 1080p (!) so there's no way in hell that the next Nintendo console will be able to run games in 4K, maybe outside of a few 2D games or less demanding titles.
or...... you could emulate it
Sure. They'll probably make you pay for the game again though.
This is a surprisingly detailed explanation that I did not understand completely
Can't you just download more RAM?
2:40 Over 900Ghz GPU? Damn, that's some fine Overclocking right there.

It's definitely fun
Something to mention.. The Tegra SoC used in the Switch was underclocked heavily by Nintendo despite on most systems the temperatures being well within specification.
the crappy part tho is that nor the battery nor the board is made to withstand the power draw that restoring default x1 clocks would make.
You're right
Also, Nintendo could easily swap the memory for a much faster & larger one (8 GB like the dev kit) without needing any other change to the APU, I don't know what is preventing them from doing that.
The fact they can use faster memory and there's a lot of room left in the X1 to reach its 2.2 GHz , just by improving the cooling solution
yeah, stock Sys-clk just restores the default clock timings of the Tegra X1 so it's completely safe.
there must be a greater concern for battery life and longevity than peak tegra performance, i would assume anyway.
@@timsmyth7942 I believe either Spawnwave or Digital Foundry had videos on thermals of the "overclocked" original Switch and the result was a minor increase in temps, which would be even less on the newer Mariko Switch. My biggest issue is that I absolutely hate playing games on the switch. If it wasnt for Bayonetta 3, I would have sold the Switch a long time ago. It feels so dated and the console can barely hold itself together.
Emulation is the current best solution to play this game with perfect performance
Emulating current gen, nice. Niche series like Bayonetta need all the sales they can get.
Correct. But is Bayonetta 3 playable through emulation???
@@Galo994 Emulation is not piracy, people can still buy the game and emulate it.
@@Charlton369 Yeah I bet that happen *all the time*
lol
That will be tiny fraction, guaranteed
@@Charlton369 Lmao nah, just doesn't work like that. Maybe on some cases but thats a very small minority
Nintendo bought this IP only to hold Platnium Games back smh. This game could have been glorious on PC, PS5 & XBX.
@@Galo994 that just an excuse they give to try make it seem ok. Bayonetta was a huge hit im sure MS and Sony could have offered Platnium to make another the past 13 years. Although 101 was Switch exclusive and Platnium made and came to PS4 and PS5 and Xbox so maybe they can remaster the game with tech that this game deserves.
I gotta a Switch just sick of games being held back by Nintendo shit hardware as been like this since GameCube really the 64 and SNES.

I do believe we will get an announcement from Nintendo either December or early next year for a new revision that actually improves the hardware.
🙏
New Switch revision release at the same time of BotW2 in May 2023 perhaps?
@@SlartiMarvinbartfast That is what I expect. The Switch went from announcement to release in 6 months.
You can actually hit 60fps on bayonetta 3 pretty much all the time on a switch so this video needs revisiting again. A mild overclock of GPU and CPU couples with the memory overclock to 2000mhz pretty much locks this game to 60fps. Works totally fine on my switch.
And that's one of the reasons why Nintendo should do a Switch Pro
As a seasoned gamer of the last 40 years I can't stress enough how little frame rate matters to me.
I'll pick it up in the near future. Getting P5R is higher priority with how Atlus makes a limited physical cart print
you'll regret it
It's somehow funny to say naked eye can't notice 40 or 50 fps but this is something makes switch to show old
900ghz gpu... seems nvidia is going to burn the switches too
I warned people of how underwhelming Switches would be, and I said the same thing about half of the specs for the PS5 and new Xbox systems having 16 gigs of RAM and other things slightly below where they should be.
I've been playing my steam deck on 40fps, not only does it save on battery life, it feels great, not quite 60 but, noticeably better than 30.
i would rather have a 60fps target
@@lolcat Locked 40 with VRR would be a trillion times more appealing than whatever this is. I really hope yuzu/ryujinx can fix the crashes and provide locked 60.

Great Video MVG, but why does the camera make you look so pale in this video, I prefer the other camera. :)
The visuals sometimes looks like a ps2 game. Even having 5 years to make a great game, I think it could be a lot better. Unfortunately Nintendo Switch is struggling to run some games and we'll never get a real powerful console coming from them.
He sounded super hesitant when he called it "very good".. as if he died a little inside
They really need to release better hardware, or ideally do what Microsoft/Sony have been doing for a while now and release their games on PC via a Nintendo launcher (or Steam). That'd be amazing.
Switch Pro when?
Switch 2 will come out before a switch pro ever happens
@@nodzee97 Switch 2. Switch Pro. Doesn't matter what it's called. I just want a hardware refresh of some kind. And if it's a new generation, then I'd want backwards compatibility.
THAT'S the framerate graph people are complaining about? I expected to see huge jagged dips or obscene stutters or something. The game runs smooth as hell, it doesn't need a fix. They should have just locked the game to 30fps so the performance elitists could bugger off back to their melting 4090s.
It runs smooth as hell???
Series X does it better with its FPS Boost technology, making last gen games run at 60/120fps without any input from the developer.
Honestly, Platinum is regarded way too highly for the games they output. For every good game they release, they make like 3 bad ones
Their bad games are about to get even worse now that they’re focusing on service games from here on out. Bayonetta 3 might end up being their last great game.

I've played on overclocked switch for 2 years, without issues. Just made sure to keep the thermal paste fresh, and it was completely fine. The switch sound like a jet tho, so the dock needs to be in some place with high air flow.

Case the current one is not a good experience.
