Just wrapped up Nier on switch and snagged Bayonetta at launch. Loving the combat! It really has quite a nice rhythm to it all and does a good job teaching the moves(as someone who isnt very good at combo games like this).
Bayonetta was the reason I bought an xbox 360 after playing it round my best friend's house after school about 10 years ago. We both pre-ordered this one and I am as having as much fun as I did with the first entry back then.
This review is exactly as I am experiencing the game. Since I’m not an action game player normally, I started at beginner difficulty and I do find it a bit too easy, since I can’t seem to do anything wrong against opponents, but only get myself killed from my horrible platforming skills. So as an rpg player who loves heavy cut scenes and voice acting, this might be a good game to get some more action elements in my gaming. Thanks for the review and the reduced price thanks to your e-shop cards!
@@armandoarambula5819 yeah people are putting down 95% of the absolute bonkers and lovely story, gameplay, and minigames for just the ending which imo I liked it a lot and I don't think bayoneta will be left out, at the very least we still need a continuation of the story of 2 about Loki and Balder so we will have bayonetta for a long time
Bayo 1 is still my personal favorite. Style, characterization, story and world were at their best. While 3 has the best gameplay, I kinda missed the Bayo attitude.
@@omerbar7518 understandable but huge disagree when it comes to story. I didn’t care much about the active story in 1, 2 is the only thing that retroactively made it pretty compelling. Given that this game can stand without the support, I’d say it’s also better in that department too

Another masterpiece. As I've found with every Bayonetta game, it takes a bit of a commitment for it to finally click, getting used to the combat intricacies, learning enemy patterns, and dicovering the fun of replaying levels and shaving of better scores and trying out new weapons and here, also demon slaves. The game has the best replay mechanics of the series by the way, where only the verses which you improved on will be updated on your overall score. Less punishing, more addictive. Camera has been patched since launch.
My biggest worry was the change in voice actor for bayonetta but the new voice actress keeps the same attitude and sexiness as the previous bayonetta's and that's the reason I got this game in the first place 😂
I was fortunate enough to pick up the amazing Collector's edition of this game. I LOVE it, but I still think Bayonetta 2 is ultimately my favorite. The combat in this game, though? *Chef's kiss*. My only gripe is that sometimes I feel like the levels are a little too big with nothing much going on in them. I would have preferred the more linear sections from the previous entries. Still a great game, and Jennifer Hale is queen.
About the level, it's said that Bayo 3 was supposed to be semi open world (like astral chain) but development was slowed down due to it and Nintendo asked plat to make it linear. The open empty maps are leftovers from that vision.
Please Platinum Games, patch in a training mode to rival the one found in Devil May Cry 5. I would love to know the reason why they didn't include a deep, customisable training mode for us to get our combo practice on.
I was enjoying the demon summoning and playing as bayonetta until I got to chapter 4. Just not enjoying the second Character at all and thinking bout turning it on easy n back up to speed run them
I feel the target market this time is anime weebs who love action jrpg's and not bayonetta 1/rising revengance fans. Do i want up close ninja like action? Yes! Do i want to destroy 3 seed pods using a choo choo train controlled remotely to open a door? No! Ninja Gaiden sigma it is then...
I have got it, just on the desert level. The game has only really started to hit its stride with me. Up until now it was a little average tbh. The boss just before the desert was great and this environment is more interesting. So I'm hopeful for the rest of the game as I loved bayonetta 2
I played the game, I miss the gory that bayonetta 1 had, 3 didn’t have that. Playing as different versions of bayonetta was nice, but viola is just so bad to use. Jean stages are an addition, but just a 2D platform that’s boring and uncreative. They wanted to just put something new there that doesn’t work. Playing Jean stages were such a drag, even if they take just 10 minutes to complete, it felt like a total waste of a lifetime. Also Bayonetta is constant ripping her heart out to make even bigger summons, those boss fights, well they feel lackluster and a total downgrade from the usual gameplay. They weren’t fun/enjoyable at all. But overall, it’s fun to see bayonetta again
Why do developers always insist on forcing us to fight more and more giant enemies it’s never as fun as fighting a character that’s similar to your own in these kinds of games smh. I swear they don’t play their own games. The constant giant battles is a downgrade imo
Without spoiling, the game's gameplay was absolutely breathtaking (save for some specific sections) but the story was unfortunately a confusing mess. Still, can't wait to spend countless hours completing this game though
Oh my gosh... I'm about to finish the game very soon, I'm on the last chapter. I'm watching this review and you bring up the orbs that you can use to unlock new skills, I kid you not, I forgot all about that. I don't know whose fault is that and I wonder if that prevented me from doing better in the game with its ranking system and the challenges
Crushed it on the opening puns this week! So I've never played a bayonetta game. I tried Devil May Cry ages ago and bounced off it. What's the likelihood I'll actually enjoy bayonetta? Is the experience much different?
I wasnt a big fan on my first play through, but going back now on harder difficulties and skipping cutscenes I'm loving it. The story was particularly bad in this one and definitely not interested in Viola. Otherwise everything else has been great!
same i found viola really annoying and wanted to punch her especially some of the dialogue she says that seems pointless. Not to mention her fighting style is really annoying as well
The first game was such an amazing gem that seemed to fly under the radar. Amazing to see a third game out now years later and still the games are great.
Right? I remember when the 1st one came out, I played it and tried to tell my friends about it, and everyone either hadn't heard of it or wasn't interested. I can still say I've never met anyone (in person) that has played any of these games. Reading these comments makes me feel not so alone lol.
Bayonetta 3 borrowed a lot from Astral Chain. Quite a lot of gameplay mechanics were taken in one form or another from AC. Not complaining, just something I found interesting
I’ve never played a Bayonetta game, on the basis that it seemed to me mostly like Devil May Cry, which I wasn’t that bothered by. I know a lot of people love this series. Am I wrong not to be interested?
Not a fan of having 3 different currencies. Dmc4 showed that having more than one just makes it so that you have a large amount of both cause you're aren't spending enough of either. Especially with one currency being tied to unlocking attacks only. This game is no exception and is actually worse with it. But I guess having halos tied to extras only is fine. But the other two are a bit too much
Is the gameplay unique enough to make me become a new fan of this genre? Sometimes hack and slash games feel redundant to me but I'm really considering this
Heads up if you play the first look up ways to collect Halos enough times to buy the weapons and items you want (like the most powerful weapon in it called the Rodin) there's also playing the level 100 times to get another weapon and to LOOK EVERYWHERE in every nook and cranny to find Golden LPs to get more weapons
This game looks awesome, absolutely loved Bayonetta 1 and 2, can’t wait to sink my teeth into this one, but it’s gonna be awhile before I do. I’m playing my first ever play through of Persona 5 on the switch!
Bayonetta 3 was superb and the absolute best of the series imo. It was a Day 1 buy for me and it was everything I wanted from this series, but it went further and it didn't disappoint! I beat it 3 times now and got everything in the game except Rodin's weapon because well..........I've given up on trying to beat him! I'm happy that 3 fixed alot of the issues I had with 2, the most important in that all of the cutscenes in 3 being actual scenes, not just still-scenes/pictures with them talking in the background, which 2 had way too much of and it made me think that 2 didn't have a good budget or something. The only time 3 used the still-scenes/pictures was when Bayonetta views flashbacks of her other selves, which was good. Not to mention the level of style, excitement, design, and action choreography of the cutscenes was a much higher degree of quality than almost all of 2. I loved the Multiverse and it was a good move introducing this as it opens many doors for the series now and it perfectly fits in with the World of Chaos being well.....chaotic, which perfectly symbolizes the Multiverse. I loved the different locations this game had from Japan, to China, to Egypt, and then Paris. Seeing alternate Bayonettas was simply fantastic. Even the island of Thule was cool and I wish we had gotten to explore a little of the Altar of the Sky because it had a very majestic design and I liked how it had the Lumen Sage and the Umbra Witch statues and then across is the statue of Aesir within the Altar's core. All 3 Gods of the Trinity of Realities knew of the Multiverse it seems and studied it on Thule. The story could've been a little more explored because it did feel like alot of important story elements were left out and not properly explained. I don't know if this was done on purpose or if it was convoluted to the point where they missed things. Maybe both??? Either way, Bayonetta's story was always a bit all over the place, but it was easier to understand 1 and 2's as opposed to 3 I'll admit. None the less, the story was engrossing imo and with the help of videos explaining things and having played through it 3 times, I understand it a lot better now! I don't know if this is just me, but I thoroughly enjoyed that the chapters felt longer in 3 than it did in 2. Each chapter in 3 , to me, had more content and exploration then most of the chapters in 2 and I really enjoyed exploring all the different environments. I hated how 2 had chapters where it was just literally 1 boss battle and then it's over. It made 2 feel so incredibly short and cheap. I'm glad they decided not to do this again in 3 and almost every boss battle in 3 was epic, exciting, and kept you on your toes. The only boss I felt that way about in 2 was the final Balder fight in Inferno. I also enjoyed that 3 had much more bosses. This game's Final Boss was incredibly epic and severely made up for the lackluster anti-climatic final boss in 2. And this game's soundtrack was the best in the series, with the Singularity Definition OST being the best final boss track in the series. Viola was a nice addition to the series, I have no issues with her and her Fairy Masquerade Rage was cool, but I still abhor her infuriating Witch Time activation! That's the only thing I don't like about her. The frame rate issues didn't bother me because this is the Switch and we all know it's not gonna give out the same stable quality as the PS4 or PS5 so, graphics and frame rate wise, this was never a problem for me. I'm just grateful for Nintendo saving this franchise and allowing it to get to this awesome game being made. But if they ever released this on PS4 or PS5, I wouldn't say no to it. As for the ending, I personally loved it. The very beginning of the game showed the stakes being the highest it's ever been with Bayonetta from Viola's world getting killed by Singularity. This game wasn't going to end on a happy note with the extinction of alternate universes and Bayonettas/Arch-Eves dying all across the Multiverse being the backbone of it. What "Our Cereza" does in this final battle is grand and the ending was much more impactful because of it. As for Luka and her together, I have no issue with it because I never saw Jeanne as her lover, she was her sister/best friend. People saw there sexiness, innuendo, and lustful behavior as them hinting that they were in love with each other or maybe that Bayonetta was bisexual, I don't know and I don't care really. Imo, the sexiness, innuendo, and lustful behavior they express with each other is how they've always been, teasing and being proud of being sexy powerful women. You could interpret this either way you want, but whether she ended up with Jeanne or Luka, the other side would've raged and been angry so it's a lose-lose story element imo. Platinum just decided to go for Luka and that's fine with me. I also believe this gives Luka more importance in the grand scheme of things otherwise there would be no point in him being in the series after the first game as then he would just be the comic relief character which is already Enzo imo so we don't really need another one. All in all, I can't wait to see Bayonetta 4 in the future and I'm eager to see where and how they're gonna bring Bayonetta back. Viola saves her and Luka from Inferno or the Bayonetta from the first game's universe comes back into the mix. Who knows, but theres alot of possibilities and with the introduction to the Multiverse and Fairies, the future of the series is gonna be great!!!
MINOR SPOILERS I loved the Bayo sections, but absolutely hated the Viola and Jeanne levels, they felt clunky and just not that fun. The story was a disappointing and convoluted mess (specially that ending) and I found the enemy design quite boring and unappealing (with some exceptions, of course) something that never happened in the first two games. Overall, a good game, but not the proper send-off for such a beloved character, if Viola is indeed replacing Bayonetta, then I'm done with the franchise.
Was interested because of 60 fps. I sample play Bayo 1 and 2 before but couldn’t get into the combat. Too much combo memorization and it just wasn’t that much fun. I will past on this one.
@@scottdixon2505 bayonetta 3 seems to be a lot of fighting things bigger than her. Just hitting legs. Nier looks to have big bosses, but are other enemies generally small/player sized?
@@gariko most enemies are closer to player size but it has a few big enemies that are usually bosses. Only problem with the enemies is that's it not a huge amount of variety but the gameplay and story makes up for it
I enjoy it! A little bit less than Bayo 2. There is a disturbing thing about visuals and I can't get over it. It's the choice of the "transparent" texture effect with dots and grid. The fun fact is that even with emulators, it's the same, it means it's a deliberate visual choice to render this (even if it improves perf')
@@minecraftotalwar I can understand but I disagree. For me, it's messier and less readable and the monster invocation doesn't help it. But hey, I find it's still great.
I hate it so far. I don't know why, but it just doesn't feel right. I think the new monster thing gets old quick. I can't stand the story. The multiverse thing sucks. I hate the train. I will have to go back to three 2nd game to see what else is not sitting right. I did love the gorilla type battle. I wish that was the game
I'll be honest, I wasn't interested in the story and felt there were too many cutscenes but the gameplay was great fun and I liked how they mixed the verses up a fair bit. Glen
Have you figured out how to queue up demon attacks so you can keep the demon out while still moving and attacking with Bayonetta? It wasn’t until I figured that out until things started clicking for me.
Not enough combat and too much platforming for me. Also I don't enjoy playing as Viola at all. Would help if you knew from the chapter select screen which character you're about to play as so you could practice (although it's quite possible I'm missing something blatantly obvious here)
I have never played bsyonetta but have seen a youtuber plsy 1+2. And they look good. And this gsme looks better than the other two. But it's definitely not a game I'm picking up. I don't like action shooter's. It's just not my style of game. But the games are definitely fun to watch. But you can tell this gsme looks good
Will you be doing a sonic frontiers review. I seen how the gsme looks on pc but curious how it looks. Still getting it on the switch. Got my pre order for it. And from what I seen it looks amazing
I had to stop watching at the opening spoiler explaining the beginning of the game and what a certain character is as I intend to play this game and dont want to know twisty story beats like that .😕

It certainly goes pretty big and crazy at times. Glen
"Umbralievable" Oh man, pun game on point.
Without spoiling the game, I’m disappointed that I didn’t bring back amiibo functionality
Had a blast with this one, I nearly didn't buy it after Digital Foundry kicked the sh1t out of it in their 'tech review' but I'm glad I ignored them.
Digital foundry is a cancer to the gaming industry, they're extremely biased to sony and paid by sony to do so.
Just picked it up today from gamestop. It's so good.
I knew i will love the review since puns is used
So Excited for this game
Why do developers always insist on forcing us to fight more and more giant enemies it’s never as fun as fighting a character that’s similar to your own in these kinds of games smh. I swear they don’t play their own games. The constant giant battles is a downgrade imo
Without spoiling, the game's gameplay was absolutely breathtaking (save for some specific sections) but the story was unfortunately a confusing mess. Still, can't wait to spend countless hours completing this game though
I agree about the story, but the gameplay felt off to me.
@@Strictly_Jake Viola's gameplay was definitely a downer
Story is confusing in every Bayonetta game to me XD
@@renardelouve8598 I feel you, it feels like a staple of Bayonetta games to have great gameplay and perplexing stories.
Combat is probably the best out every action game
they shouldnt have released Nier in the same month, still playing that game xD
Oh my gosh...
I'm about to finish the game very soon, I'm on the last chapter. I'm watching this review and you bring up the orbs that you can use to unlock new skills, I kid you not, I forgot all about that. I don't know whose fault is that and I wonder if that prevented me from doing better in the game with its ranking system and the challenges
Then you may had a LOT of orbs.
Sometimes the puns are so good I don't even need to watch before I click like 😆
What happened to the sectioning of videos? Did YT remove that feature?
Yeah. I'll probably get this someday.
My favourite Bayonetta 3
I’m so behind. I played bayonetta 1 when it first released but never even tried bayonetta 2. Now we have the third out.
Crushed it on the opening puns this week! So I've never played a bayonetta game. I tried Devil May Cry ages ago and bounced off it. What's the likelihood I'll actually enjoy bayonetta? Is the experience much different?
I’ve only played it for about half an hour but looks great 🤗
Huhuhuh....”titular” hero. I see what you did there Glenn.
I still have to play the first one!!!!!
Bayonetta 3 borrowed a lot from Astral Chain. Quite a lot of gameplay mechanics were taken in one form or another from AC. Not complaining, just something I found interesting
platinum games always do that and implement some of the same elements at times which can be a good and bad thing....
But the other two are a bit too much
Thinking of getting it
can we expect a sonic frontiers switch version review?
Maaaaaan guess i GOTTA get it now
Its a must, best game of 2022 easily.
Bayonetta 3 would definitely be one of the first purchases for my switch doesn’t
Ffs they're really trying to burn out the multiverse bs
Is the gameplay unique enough to make me become a new fan of this genre? Sometimes hack and slash games feel redundant to me but I'm really considering this
you can start with the first one it holds up really well and the combat its really engaging
@@yamc188 It does hold up? Ok thanks I might have to try it then
Heads up if you play the first look up ways to collect Halos enough times to buy the weapons and items you want (like the most powerful weapon in it called the Rodin) there's also playing the level 100 times to get another weapon and to LOOK EVERYWHERE in every nook and cranny to find Golden LPs to get more weapons
@@drakofox1362 Sweet thanks! I'll have to keep that in mind if I play it. I'll screenshot for future reference
This game looks awesome, absolutely loved Bayonetta 1 and 2, can’t wait to sink my teeth into this one, but it’s gonna be awhile before I do.
I’m playing my first ever play through of Persona 5 on the switch!
Wow that's a very good score! Unfortunately my wallet is not being nice right now ahahah
MINOR SPOILERS
I loved the Bayo sections, but absolutely hated the Viola and Jeanne levels, they felt clunky and just not that fun.
Why not review the story too? This is probably the most story-heavy one, so it feels weird to only passingly mention it
Fantastic content.
Thanks!
Great game…love evry second of it as well as my kids do enjoyed it a lot
Could you talk about "It takes two"?
Yeah its overrated and did not deserve game of the year last year.
Was interested because of 60 fps. I sample play Bayo 1 and 2 before but couldn’t get into the combat. Too much combo memorization and it just wasn’t that much fun. I will past on this one.
I did. Still at the plastic cover
My question is Nier or Bayonetta 3?
Been waiting for this review to see if it nudges me to one or the other, but opinions from others is welcome.
Haven't played bayonetta yet, but personally nier automata is one of the best games I've ever played. Absolutely loved it.
After watching this review, Nier does seem a bit more tempting.
Only problem with the enemies is that's it not a huge amount of variety but the gameplay and story makes up for it
Both are amazing
But Bayo 3 gameplay and combat is a lot better than Automata
But Automata has the better story for sure
Great Stuff!
Combat is waaayyy better
@@minecraftotalwar I can understand but I disagree. For me, it's messier and less readable and the monster invocation doesn't help it. But hey, I find it's still great.
Nice review guys although game isn’t to my taste as well as the sexualisation of the protagonist
Would help if you knew from the chapter select screen which character you're about to play as so you could practice (although it's quite possible I'm missing something blatantly obvious here)
@@Jason-td1gu I started seeing ways to do it, but I'm terrible at it. I'll keep working at it.
@@wreckgar23 I totally agree with that
I have never played bsyonetta but have seen a youtuber plsy 1+2.
And from what I seen it looks amazing
yea love this series
I think the game is far too easy on normal difficulty, exactly like the second game. The first one was the most balanced game of the franchise
I had to stop watching at the opening spoiler explaining the beginning of the game and what a certain character is as I intend to play this game and dont want to know twisty story beats like that .😕
I have no interest whatsoever in this game, but I'm here to smash that like button 🍻
Okay?
This is a Grade S action game. Try the first one. I was put off by the "humor" and the tone, but once you get to play it, everything clicks.
It's an amazing trilogy
Why, yes I am. How are you?
I never found the camera to be an issue to be honest.
That's fair enough mate. Glen
